Chapter 1: Your Smile reminds me of Sunflower

Chapter Text

_____________

"Hey appa!" As Soobin opened the door to the VIP room his father looked up at him with a boxy smile. He gave him a dimpled smile back before turning to his other father, peacefully sleeping on the bed.
"Was he better today?" He asked in a sad tone.
"He asked about SeokJin. He was about to cry like a kid when I told him he wasn't here." Taehyung sighed.
"He acts like such a kid sometimes, just like my Beomie, here." Soobin said endearing rubbing the back of his sniffling son.

"Aigo, why is my Gyu crying?" Taehyung said taking the child away from his son.
"Mom... Mom went.. away. Dad didn't stop her." Beomgyu sniffled into Tae's collar, complaining about his dad.
"Soobin how could you not stop Areum. See you made my Beomie cry." Soobin playfully rolled his eyes but smiled at the small smile playing at his son and father's lips.
"Baby, mom will come back home in a week. How about you spent the week with Eopi and Paa when dad is working?" Soobin said brushing out the long locks of hair from his son's eyes. Beomgyu's long hair reminds him so much of Taehyung when he first met him.
"Can I eat sweets?" He asked with big, hopeful eyes.
"No you can't. Mom already packed your snacks and appa you better not buy him anything from the vending machine. My shift ends at 8. I will come pick him up."
Both the grandfather and grandson nodded dismissively making Soobin sigh.

" Dr. Soobin please report to the maternity ward."
"I gotta go guys." Soobin left, leaving a quick kiss on Beomie head. Taehyung looked back at Jimin smiling proudly.
"Like father like son."

Beomgyu had fallen asleep soon after Soobin left. He had curled up against Jimin and even in his sleep he had pulled the little body towards his and smelled his baby soft hairs.
"My Binnie!" The soft whisper that left Jimin's mouth had made Taehyung smile a bit and he had gone back to his own readings.
When Beomgyu woke up, Tae was arranging his photo album. Jimin was still fast asleep due to the high dosage of his medicine. He had climbed down Jimin's bed and made his way straight to Taehyung and pulled on his pants. Taehyung had picked him up on his lap and handed him a strawberry milk. While Beomgyu sucked on the sweetness he fell back onto his Eopi's chest and looked at the pictures laid out on the glass table.
"Oh! Oh! He looks like me."
"He does?" Taehyung asked making the kid nod his head vigorously.
"That's your Paa he was your age in the photo. It was also the first time I met him. That was the start of my forever."
Taehyung said looking at the awed expression on the five year old's face.

"His smile is so big, Eopi."
"It is, isn't it? Your Jinnie halabeoji cried when he saw that smile. Said it was the first time he smiled in two years."
" Really? Why did he smile?"

Picking up his child from school, Jin had made his way into the flower shop- Hope World. It was his 3 year anniversary with Yoongi after all. Picking up a bunch of white and pink calla lillies he made his way towards the counter to make it into a bouquet. His son following him at his heels.
Seokjin was engrossed in a conversation with the owner of the shop- Jung Hoseok. They talked about how excited SeokJin is for today. How hard it is to be gay parents in this world. How they are looked down upon. With them the conversation flowed so flawlessly as if they were long lost friends. The conversation was haulted when SeokJin felt a tug on his coat. He looked down towards his son. Jimin was staring at him with hopeful eyes, pointing at a bucket of sunflowers on the rack right behind them.

"Do you want appa to buy you a sunflower, Jiminie?” SeokJin asked with a soft smile.
"yes, please." Jimin had mumbled with his head down.
This might have been the first time Jimin had asked something from SeokJin. He never asks for books, toys, ice cream. He has always just accepted whatever Yoongi and SeokJin got him with a polite thank you and went to his room to stalk them up. SeokJin was happy though, he was happy that Jimin was finally opening up to them. He will buy him the world if Jimin asks him to. Quickly picking up the biggest sunflower he placed it on the counter.
"This too please, Hoseok-ssi."
As soon as he had made the payments, he held the sunflower to his son with a big bright smile, making Jimin blinded for a while. He held onto the the stem and looked at the flower his Appa got him.
"Is that a gift Minnie?" SeokJin asked, to which Jimin nodded profusely.
"For appa?” Jimin shook his head no.
"For dadda?" Jimin again shook his head no.
"Who did you get it for then, baby?"

Jimin had walked away then, making SeokJin curious. He watched his son, walk up to a kid his age, sitting on a low table, pouring out his imagination on a sheet of paper. He watched his son hold out the sunflower to the other boy and his eyes stuck on the light of his sneakers.

"Your smile reminded me of this sunflower." Jimin had said loud enough for both the adults to hear. Hoseok was smiling brightly at the scene while SeokJin bit onto his lips hoping not to cry.
"Will you like to be my... My friend?” he stepped from one feet to the other. The flower was pulled out of his hand but before he could look up he was pulled into a crushing hug. A bright, loud sound shouting 'yes! yes! yes!’
When Jimin pulled back a bit from the hug he was faced with the boxy smile of his new friend making him smile brightly and looking back at his Appa.
Jin had bursted into tears then. Hoseok on the other had had pulled out his old Polaroid and clicked pictures of the two. Jimin had quickly left Tae to go back to Jin, hugging his leg.
"Appa why are you sad?” he had asked innocently.
Jin had quickly picked him up in his arms and hugged the little body tightly. "Appa isn't sad, baby. Appa is so so so happy to see you smile. It makes appa so happy to see you smile so bright." Jimin had given his father the biggest dimpled smile then and kissed his cheeks.
"I will smile more from now if it makes appa and dadda happy." He had said before wiggling his way down and back to Taehyung.
"I guess our son's are gonna be friends now, hyung." Hoseok had said brightly making Jin smile watery at the younger.
That day, they left the shop not with a bouquet of calla lillies, but with a polaroid of Jimin smiling, lifelong friends and a pink rose clutched tightly in Jimin's small palm because "Jiminie this rose looks like your pink cheeks."
And when SeokJin had gone back home, instead of the calla lillies gifted his husband a polaroid of their son smiling for the first time, they had both agreed that it was the best anniversary gift they could have ever got.

"Your Jinnie halabeoji turned this into a big picture and hung it up on their bedroom wall." Taehyung said kissing Beomgyu's head.
" Really? Jinnie halabeoji must love Paa very much." Taehyung chuckled at that.
" He did and so did your Paa."

The door opened to reveal an exhausted Soobin. His doctor's coat a bit crinkled, his hair a mess. He looked so much like a tall version of Jimin, Taehyung wanted to laugh.
"Come on, Beomie it's time to go home." He said picking up all his son's toys and backpacks.
"But I wanna stay. I wanna hear about how Paa and Eopi got married and had you. Please Dad."
" Baby.. we need to go. Eopi wants to spent time with Paa too. And you have school tomorrow."
" Eopi I wanna stay with you and Paa."
Taehyung let out a loud laugh.
" How about you go home with your dad now Gyugyu and come back tomorrow? I will tell you more of the story."
" You promise?”
" I promise."
