Work Text:
It was cold.
That was the first thing Neil noticed.
The second thing he noticed, was Jean was gone.
Now, that was nothing to worry about, Neil could hear the the slight clanking of dishes in the kitchen. Jean was just making breakfast. But Neil missed him. He much preferred it when Jean stayed snuggled in bed in the mornings, his large warm body encompassing Neil’s lithe frame.
Pouting Neil slunk out of bed, blankets wrapped around him and left to find Jean.
It only took one step out of their bedroom before he saw Jean, swaying back and forth in their kitchen, making coffee and humming a song.
Neil skulked over to Jean, blanket dragging on the floor behind him and promptly planted his face into Jean’s back wrapping his arms around his midsection. Jean let out a soft laugh,
“Good morning mon chou, did you have a nice sleep?”
Neil grunted in response, face still buried into his boyfriends back, which once again prompted a laugh from Jean. Jean would be forever endeared my his small boyfriends antics.
“So, it was not nice hmm?”
Neil grunted again refusing to remove his face from Jean’s back.
“Hmm mon chou, I did not hear that?”
Jean was smirking, Neil pouted again before lifting his head up and sliding under Jean’s arm to look up at his boyfriend’s perfect face.
“I saidddd,” he groaned, “It was nice till I woke up and you were goneeeee.” He continued pouting, “It’s much nicer to wake up with you.”
Now this, this made Jean blush. Somehow, Neil just had an unconscious way with words, that always seemed to either get him in trouble or make Jean melt.
Smiling Jean leaned down to softly kiss his short boyfriend, before turning back to finish their coffees.
“Alas, I do have to go open the shop now, mon petit chou.” He smirked down at Neil’s glaring face, and jumped as Neil took a bite of his chest.
“NEIL!”
Neil glared up at him in response, clinging tighter. Rolling his eyes Jean responded,
“Is this because I called you short or because I said I have to go open the shop?”
Neil glared even more and clung tighter. Sighing, Jean attempted to detangle himself from Neil.
It was proving rather difficult as despite Neil’s slight stature and lithe appearance he was considerably strong.
“Mon chou, please, I have to go open the shop,” Jean pleaded giving up on removing Neil’s arms and instead turning to face him.
“Robin cannot open by herself yet,”
Neil pouted in response, but slackened his arms allowing Jean to slip from his grasp.
“Thank you mon chou,” Jean leaned down to softly kiss him, “I will see you later okay? We can go for a walk.”
Neil stayed pouting up at Jean, but nodded in acquiescence. Jean turned to leave but Neil quickly pulled him back down for one more kiss before work.
Jean reluctantly pulled away leaving out the door with a glance leaving Neil pouting.

There were a lot of people in Jean’s cafe.
Neil had finished a run just in time for a lunch date with Jean, but Jean was just a tad bit busy with the lunch time rush.
He quickly snagged a table to the back with a perfect view of the counter, and his absolutely gorgeously stunning boyfriend working the coffee machine.
Jean’s hair was held back from his sharp angular face with one of Neil’s obnoxiously orange bandannas, the sleeves of his soft gray plaid rolled up snug around his strong forearms.
From his spot at the back, he couldn’t see his boyfriend’s lower half, but he could just imagine the tight jean’s his boyfriend was wearing, just hugging his firm round ass... and Neil was going to have to stop thinking about that... not the right time...
Shaking his head he turned his attention back to Jean at the coffee machine, steam blasting at droplets of sweat forming on his very very attractive face. Slowly the place started the clear out and finally, Jean noticed Neil.
His face immediately brightened and a warm smile bloomed across his face. Neil’s heart seized. He was so in love.
Jean quickly spoke to Robin and Sammy before hanging his apron up and making his way around the counter to Neil in long strides.
“Hello mon chou,” Jean leaned down smiling to kiss Neil.
“YEAH GET IT NEIL!” Sammy whistled loudly grinning from behind the counter, Robin elbowed them quickly as Neil, without breaking away from Jean gave them the finger.
Sammy sniggered in response flicking their hair over their shoulder before getting back to work as Robin continued to poke them.
Jean broke away with a sigh “One day I will get them back for their bullshit.”
Neil smiled up at him “Of course you will baby.”
Jean rolled his eyes and pulled Neil to his feet and out the door,
“Robin, keep an eye on things and keep Sammy away from the the cupcakes.”
Jean collected his smoothies from Robin and pulled Neil out the door as Robin waved back and Sammy swung their head around cupcake stuffed in their mouth.
“Been a busy morning baby?” Neil smiled up at his pretty boyfriend as they started their walk and sipped on his Mango Guava smoothie.
“Hmm yes, it seems some *influencer* promoted the cafe yesterday? Someone called Allison Reynolds I think?” he shrugged the wind blowing his hair into his face.
Allison... Allison Reynolds.. “Oh!” exclaimed Neil, “ I know her! She’s dating Renee.” he smiled up at Jean.
Jean furrowed his brow in thought, “Oh, yes Renee did mention she was dating someone called Allison.”
he shrugged again, “I...”
He was cut off by meows. They froze in their steps,
“Did you hear that?” Jean asked, looking around.
There wasn’t much around, other stores, a park across the street, some trash cans and an alley.
Another meow rang out and Neil whipped his head towards the alley.
They made their way to the alley and poked around when “meowww”, there they were, two small scraggly kittens curled up under the dumpster.
“Jean over here!” Neil crouched down, and reached under to carefully pull them out. He cradled them in his arms as Jean made his way over.
They looked up at him with wide eyes and meowed and wriggled around, the ginger kitten was especially wriggly.
“Oh, they’re so small...” Jean watched wide eyed as the ginger kitten attempted to climb Neil’s shirt and the grey kitten squished itself into Neil’s arm and watched Jean with wide, unblinking eyes.
“We need to take them to the vet right?” Neil looked up at Jean, “To make sure they’re alright yeah?”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“He really likes you.” Jean smiled as he opened the door to their apartment, the grey kitten had clung to Neil through the entire trip to the vet, pet store and home.
The ginger kitten on the other hand was quite energetic, moving near constantly, at least until started to pet him.
“Hmm, I think I wanna call him Baguette.” Neil grinned up at Jean as he plopped down on the couch, kittens in hand.
Jean glanced over his shoulder at Neil and rolled his eyes as he set up the litter tray,
“Of course mon chou, well I think the feral one should be called Carrot. Thoughts?” He raised his brow at Neil who, in response, merely poked his tongue out pettily.
Jean finished setting up the litter tray and beds and toys at which point the kittens were raring to explore so he set them down so they could check out the apartment.
Neil leaned back on the couch to watch the kittens when Jean’s phone beeped, Jean checked his phone and typed out a response with a scowl.
“Sammy?” Neil smirked at his boyfriends irritated face,
“Yes,” Jean threw his phone away and flopped onto the couch with Neil leaning his head back, “They are such an imbecile, why do they still work for me ugh.”
Neil laughed at his boyfriends antics, Jean really did like Sammy, he was just a drama queen through and through,
“You haven’t fired them because they make the best goddamn cakes around.” He leaned over straddling Jean,
“Also, if you fired them, Robin would be sad.” Jean rose an eyebrow at that and rested his hands on Neil’s hips, almost fully encompassing them.
“And why would Robin be sad, mon chou?” Neil laughed and wrapped his arms around Jean’s neck, for once, he was more observant of social interactions then Jean.
“They’re dating dumbass.”
“Oh, then yes I suppose that would upset Robin.”
Jean laughed, and Neil just had to, he leaned forward finally kissing the smile of Jean’s face.
They sat there slowly kissing, Jean softly rubbing along Neil’s back until,
“FUCK!”
“MERDE!”
They were attacked simultaneously by Baguette and Carrot who had clearly grown tired of exploring and wanted attention again.
Neil looked down at the small creatures attempting to climb Jean’s legs and attack his toes and promptly started laughing into Jean’s neck.
