Dandelions Among The Breeze

Summary:

Should the seeds of a dandelion rub off your chin, it means you're in love.

Notes:

Inspired by the quote from Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451

"Have you ever heard of rubbing dandelions under your chin? If it rubs off that means you're in love"

Work Text:

"For someone with the title of the 'Dandelion Night', you sure know little about the flower of origin." Lisa gently blew on the mentioned flower, watching the featherlight seeds dance around in the breeze.

"Is that a bad thing?" Jean's voice betrayed her self-consciousness at the comment.

"Not at all love," Jean felt a comforting squeeze from their interlocked hands, "It just gives me more opportunities to teach you."

A soft smile spread across the knight's face, dusted with a faint blush that was shared between the couple. She watched as Lisa stretched to pick another dandelion, twirling the fragile stem with her gloved fingers.

"Hmm, did you know that the seeds can be carried 5 miles away from the original flower?"

"Certainly not, that's quite impressive." An image of Barbados summoning a wind current to help those very seeds soar further and further away appeared in Jean's mind. She could almost imagine light hues of blue, green, and white forming an imaginary wave, pushing the seeds away on a journey before they land.

"I've been told people make use of it for many things. Some people use it as food, medicine, or accessories." The librarian leaned in to tuck the flower behind Jean's ear. Lisa smiled to herself at the adorable sight. "I can certainly see the appeal."

A low murmur of embarrassed thanks was muttered. With her vision, Jean managed to gather a dandelion further away without moving their position from under the massive oak tree in Windrise. Carefully, she slipped the flower between Lisa's ear as well.

"Thank you, though the look of dandelions doesn't suit me as much as you do." Lisa retrieved the flower from her ear, a cheeky smile twitched from the corner of her lips.

"Wanna know something else?" Jean made a sound of agreement, leaning closer and closer in the most endearing of ways that melt Lisa's heart. "Legend has it..."

Lisa took a deep inhale before blowing on the dandelion, the seeds flying towards Jean's face in a flurry of white.

"Hey!"

"You look adorable Jean I can't help myself." After composing herself from her fit of giggles, Lisa picked yet another dandelion and rubbed it against Jean's chin.

"Legend has it that if the seeds rub off..." Lisa removed the flower, delighted to see that a few seeds have stuck along her beloved’s jaw. "You're in love."

"Maybe the legend is true after all." The fond look Jean gives as she gently brushes off the seeds enticed a rare blush from the librarian. Jean retrieved the dandelion from her own ear, holding it up but not quite moving it to Lisa just yet. It was a silent question of permission – Ah Jean, courteous as always.

With a nod of approval, Jean brushed the flower along the left of Lisa's chin. Seeds began to cling on as she pulled the flower away. "The great Lisa Minci is in love? I wonder who's the lucky person." The tease brought out a laugh from the librarian.

"Does this answer your question?" Lisa leaned in to place a kiss on the knight's cheeks, chuckling at how some of the seeds had clung to a very flushed Jean's chin.

The pair continued their idle conversation, relishing in the downtime they were able to make for themselves. As the bells of the Favonius Church signaled the change of the hour, they made their way back to the city of freedom, hand in hand as the remnants of dandelion seeds remained on them both.
