Hello there!
This is where I am going to address some things concerning this work. It is not crucial that you read this over-explanation, so if you want to get on with the reading, by all means, read away! The next chapter will be the official first chapter of the story.
Now, because I tend to overthink, I wanted to give some personal context and answer some potential questions/concerns readers might have.
First, I'm going to talk about why I'm writing this story. I haven't written a longer project in a while, and I wanted to get back into writing longer works, so this is a result of that desire. I also really enjoy the show and want to explore it a little more. But mostly, I'm writing AND posting this to challenge myself to put a story out in the world, instead of letting it live only in my head.
Next, I'm going to talk more about how I'm going to write the story. It's going to be easier to do this in a list format, so:
- I DO NOT own anything Disney. Honestly, if Disney asked me to take this story down, I would understand because of how I've chosen to write it (see the dot below)
- This story IS canon compliant, and how I've chosen to do this is to weave dialogue and plot from the episodes into chapters. Original plot takes up about half of the fic, and the half that incorporates the show's dialogue and plot uses them in a reimagined way where Reader is present. I think of how I'm trying to write this story like a braid, if that makes sense, or a pastiche of sorts
- As of now (and this has been edited since the original posting of this chapter) I know that this story is going to end before the events of season 3. It might not necessarily all be posted by then (that's the goal but we all know how that goes) but the timeline will end before the next season's plot
- This is a Reader fic. Reader has a backstory that I have created, which will be utilized throughout the fic. Most of the time, the choices I made regarding Reader's backstory were in response to trends I noticed within the Star Wars universe and wanted to play with (i.e. Found Family v.s. Chosen Family)
- There will be no (y/n) but also, I'm not going to use a filler name (at least, I'm going to see how far I can get away with doing that)
- I will be using second person POV (for example: You didn't know why he wouldn't look at you)
- There will be minimal retconning in this story, but be warned, there is some in areas where I really tried to get around it but couldn't see another way to keep the story going forward
- Reader is nb afab, and I'm not going to refer to Reader in ways that concern their physical appearance. For example, I might say that Reader is wearing pants, but I will describe the pants, not the body
- I want Reader to be inclusive, so if I write something that takes away from this, please let me know
- I will try to label chapters by content and trigger warnings at the top of each chapter. The warnings will be applicable to the chapter, not the story overall
- Please reach out if I need to add a content or trigger warning
- I'm going by the TV-14 guidelines of the show, and TV-14 states: "strong coarse language, intense sexual situations, intense violence." Basically, I'm playing by the show's rules so I can practice writing within defined parameters
