Work Text:

Natsuo couldn’t escape the number two pro hero.

It had been three weeks since his run-in with Hawks. The hero hadn’t left his mind ever since that day in the alleyway, and he was beginning to grow sick of thinking about him.

Why him? Why Natsuo? He already had enough on his mind as is. With medschool and family drama plaguing his mind already he didn’t have room for yet another problem.

And it was even harder to deal with now having a girlfriend. His days always started the same now. Wake up with morning wood from a weird sexual dream with Hawks, take care of his problem, and shoot his girlfriend a goodmorning text. That was normal. People constantly have weird dreams about people they know, right? And he wasn’t going to just lay in bed uncomfortably until his erection went away, so he had to deal with it. This was normal.

Hana was a girl he had met at one of his friends get togethers a few days after the Hawks ‘incident’. She was a year below him, with a mouse-like mutant quirk. The girl was tiny compared to him. Donning mouse ears and a long thin tail, she was very dainty and fragile. Says she was striving for a degree in Botany or something. Natsuo wasn’t sure, she didn’t talk too much. She was just… meek.

Kind of plain. Kind of…

Boring.

She had barely been able to keep a conversation going as loud music blared in the background of the party. That was sure to warrant a noise complaint from one of the neighbors.

By the end of the night, Natsuo had taken her back to his dorm for the night and they slept together.

It wasn’t very satisfying.

A few days later, she had asked him out. In such a pathetic way, too. The mouse could barely make eye contact, she seemed too busy picking at her nails and averting her gaze. She finally quietly asked if he’d like to go on a date with her after standing there awkwardly in silence.

Hana was a girl straight out of his wet dreams. Well, at least the ones he had before he met Hawks. Tiny, helpless, nice body. She had checked all of his boxes. But she was just so… Boring. She didn’t have a personality. And if she did, man, it didn’t help much in the bedroom. He could barely keep it up the night they hooked up.

Right. He blamed that on her personality. Not the fact he felt disconnected from her. Hawks continued to pop up in his head as they had sex, no matter how many times he tried to focus on her. The beautiful girl in his twin sized bed.

The girl that didn’t even cross his mind even as he was plowing her.

“Sure.” Natsuo shrugged, giving her a half-assed smile.

It seemed like a good idea- make himself busy with a new girl, forget about Hawks, dream and fantasize about her instead of him. Natsuo hated how his brain was stuck on the whole…handjob. It was the only thing he had been able to think about for weeks. It was disgusting.

He wasn’t into men.

Throwing his backpack down onto his chair, Natsuo fell back onto his bed and slapped his hands to his face in frustration. Class had been stressful today, and to make it even better he had been piled on with homework. On top of that he had to run out and buy extra scrubs for one of his labs. Busy day.

He and Hana also had plans later that night to grab dinner together, and in all honesty he’d rather put his energy into homework all night then see her. That was a normal thing, people needed a break from their partners, right?

No… he called off their last few dates, remembering back. Hana seemed kind of upset. She always gave him these looks that made him feel guilty whenever he’d shoot her down because he was so busy.

… okay, sometimes he wasn’t exactly busy when he called off the plans. So what? He wanted some alone time every once in a while. He had a lot of tv show recommendations to catch up on. She always insisted on getting together, going on dates, hanging out… you know. Being a pestering girlfriend.

Maybe he should go to dinner tonight.

As he blindly felt across the bed for his phone, he heard it buzz from under his backpack. Pushing himself up off his bed he leaned over towards his desk chair and swiped it from underneath his bag, seeing the screen lit up with a text.

Hana💘💌: hey :) we’re still meeting tonight right? I was thinking we could go to the student run diner, my friend is working tonight?

Natsuo rubbed a hand hard against his face and let out a frustrated huff. If he were to go anywhere on a date, that would be his last thought. A student run diner? He knew exactly where she was talking about, it was a ten minute walk from where his dorm was. That wasn’t the most ideal place to go on a date in his opinion. Knowing that was where they were heading made him want to go even less now.

Natsu❄️❤️: Cool with me. I’ll come by your room at 6 and we can walk together.

Hana💘💌: great! im so excited to see you, love you ❤️

Natsu❄️❤️: See you soon.

Natsuo always cringed seeing the emojis Hana had put into his phone next to her contact. He was never one who used emojis in the first place. They were cheesy, and if you needed to put some weird heart emojis next to your partners name to prove you liked them, then that was dumb. (Was he too hard on Hana?)

Hmm.

After focusing on some homework for a few hours, he shimmied into his best pair of jeans and threw on a tshirt before leaving his dorm. He would need to swing by Hana’s dorm building so they could walk with each other.

“I’m really glad we could get together tonight, I’ve missed you a lot,” the mouse hummed, her hand creeping across the table to his. She let her slim fingers trail across his knuckles and draw little shapes on the back of his hand. She was always so touchy. He didn’t mind affection, but she seemed stuck to his side, especially when they were alone.

“Yeah.” Natsuo nodded, his gaze focusing on the menu their waiter had handed out to them. There wasn’t anything he hasn’t had before on the menu, unless you counted the new specials they whipped up every day. He could barely focus on looking over the items with how loud it was in here. He could barely hear Hana over a loud crash in the kitchen. Ugh.

Maybe he shouldn’t have gone out tonight. He could’ve been in his room right now finishing homework, or FaceTiming Fuyumi, or watching movies. But he had decided to use his time to make his girlfriend happy. Now, don’t get him wrong, he wasn’t miserable hanging out with her. No. That’s a little extreme. He just… had better things to do with his time.

“Natsu?”

Shit, had she been talking? His gaze flickered back up to focus on Hana sitting just across from him. A concerned look was plastered on her face.

“Did you hear me?”

“No, sorry. I was reading the menu. I can’t multitask.” He forced out a laugh, shrugging his shoulders and pushing the menu aside. “I’m all ears.”

“…alright. I was just gonna see if maybe you’d like to come over tonight…? My roommate is gonna be gone, and I thought maybeee.. you know, we haven’t had any time to ourselves in a while…” Hana’s face was warming up as she spoke to Natsuo. The girl was always so easily embarrassed at anything that could hint at some type of innuendo. Even thought she was the one who initiated the conversation.

Leaning back in his chair, the college student took a minute to think about it. She was right. They hadn’t been together a lot recently, and if they ever did anything sexual it was always quick. He would have a short block of the day to meet up with her and bang before leaving for his dorm again.

It seemed every time she would squeakily ask him to stay the night, he would whip up an excuse. ‘I have homework,’ ‘I’m meeting up with friends,’ ‘Fuyumi needs to talk to me.’  Sometimes they were true. Other times, he just needed some time to breathe. Sex with her was overwhelming. She always squirmed too much and couldn’t even take all of him. It was…

Boring.

Why was Hana so boring?

Before Natsuo could answer, he heard his phone ringtone and felt loud buzzing in his pocket. He muttered a quick apology before slipping his phone out to check the caller ID. Probably spam.

No, this number was saved to his phone. It was his fathers agency. It had been put in by his sister, who insisted he needed it incase he was in any grave danger. Right. As if he’d have the old man’s agency on speed dial.

… did he butt dial them or something? Or…

Was it Endeavor?

What could his father possibly want now? At this moment? And why the hell did he have to call on his agency’s line? Natsuo felt Hana’s eyes burning into him and knew she must’ve been annoyed. He confirmed that a moment later when his eyes met hers. The mouse had her arms crossed over her chest and was giving him that pouty look she got whenever he took his attention off her for two seconds. Ugh.

“Sorry. Lemme take this real quick.” He stood, moving towards a part of the diner that no one was seated in. Leaning up against the wall, he slid the button to answer before holding the phone up to his ear.

“Natsuo Todoroki?”

Okay, it was a female voice. Probably one of his secretaries.

“This is him,” He spoke, holding back an intense eye roll that was just begging to happen. So they knew his name now? Last time he checked he was that one Todoroki sibling that wasn’t accounted for by the front desk woman.

“This is Minami at the front desk of The Endeavor Agency. How are you today?” Her voice was sickly sweet, as if it was some kind of honor to speak to one of the Todoroki offsprings.

He really wasn’t in the mood for small talk today. Especially when he had an impatient Hana sitting in the middle of the diner alone, looking as if she had been stood up. He could see his girlfriend peering back towards him from their table briefly before turning back to scroll on her phone.

“Just peachy. What’s up? Endeavor couldn’t call me on his own or something?”

“Oh- ah,” the woman on the other end paused, caught off guard by the rudeness of the college student. She resumed once she quietly cleared her throat right into the speaker.. “I have been told that Endeavor would like to meet with you tonight, if you could make it. He’s currently out, the message had been passed on to me from-“

“Yeah, okay, he wants me to meet with him. Why though?” Natsuo huffed loudly (and very overdramatically) as the woman stumbled over her words a bit trying to collect herself. She had probably never dealt with a Todoroki kid who was so open about disliking his father, huh?

She wasn’t going to get used to it, either. Because he wasn’t going to be calling up Endeavor’s agency to make small talk with the shitty receptionist.

“Um, I actually wasn’t… given that information. I’ve been told he should be back in office by 7, though.”

Natsuo pinched the bridge of his nose while she went on. Though in the midst of her speaking, a thought appeared in his head. He couldn’t take all the credit for it though, it was mostly inspired by the loud diner his girlfriend had decided to drag him to. If he met up with his father, that would give him a reason to leave early. Sure their food order hasn’t even left the kitchen yet, but Hana shouldn’t mind, right? Maybe it was a family emergency. If she was a good girlfriend she would be more than happy to let him go take care of an emergency.

But when did he ever take his fathers side in things like this? He could just easily ignore the call and find out from Shoto or Fuyumi what had given him the idea that Natsuo would want to talk to him in person. Then again…

“Mmkay. Thanks.” The last thing he heard before he hung up was the cutoff of the woman’s voice frantically trying to get an answer to her question.

Slipping his phone into his back pocket, the college student shoved a hand into his jacket to fish out his wallet. Hana’s ears perked up and she was quick to turn around once hearing his heavy footsteps (how she pinpointed them out in this loud place, he’ll never know.)

“What was that about? Is everything alr-“

Her words fell off watching as he tugged a few bills out of his wallet and tossed them to the center of the table. Hana’s eyes seemed to search his face for some kind of emotion, while her own reaction was a mix of confusion and worry.

“My dad needed t’meet up with me or something. Sorry. This should be enough to cover me,” Natsuo didn’t bother waiting for a response. Hana could be mad all she wanted. She had been too needy and attention seeking recently anyways. Maybe she needed a quick reality check to put her back into place.

“I’m sure one of your friends who work here can walk you home, right?”

“Natsu-“

The train station wasn’t too busy tonight. Most of the people coming home from work had filed in and out of trains already, leaving mostly empty cars. Natsuo got lucky and managed to get one of those empty cars and made home on a seat away from the rest of the passengers.

He filled the ride with music blasting in his earbuds, not even thinking about the fact that he had left his date when his dad had called for him. Endeavor wouldn’t dare try to set up a family visit by himself. Natsuo would never show up. But this was a meeting, right? It would be different.

This wasn’t a family dinner Fuyumi had reached out to him to participate in. This wasn’t a school event for Shoto where the whole family would have to be together. No. If Natsuo and Endeavor were to be in the same room, Fuyumi was always the middle man for arranging it.

Neither Fuyumi or Shoto even reached out to him. This was between he and his dad.

Putting Endeavor over his girlfriend…he never thought that would be a thing he would ever even consider.

The more he thought about it… the more he was beginning to regret it, though. It was an ‘in the moment’ decision. But Hana had been too pestering and needy, right? Maybe he deserved to dip out on her for that date. Whatever. He’d make it up to her and take her out some other time.

The walk to the agency wasn’t too terrible from the station. He could have easily called a lift service, or even his family’s personal driver to come and get him, but he wanted some time to collect his thoughts and get ready for whatever the hell his father had to say to him. The more he thought about it, the more it was bizarre to him. Endeavor telling one of his sidekicks to call Natsuo? Did the man really have the balls to try and reach out to the son who wanted nothing to do with him?

Though, if he really went out of his way to try and contact him that way, it must’ve been important. His pace picked up the slightest.

Was this an emergency?

The agency was lit up with most of the floors lights being on and illuminating the dark sky. He moved through the sliding doors, hands stuffed in his pockets as he tried not to show the look of worry across his face. This time was a lot easier getting in since they were actually expecting him. This wasn’t a random visit brought on from a fit of rage like last time. He had access to the elevators from one of the key cards the front desk had given him, which they were actually allowing him to keep incase emergencies arose.

He wondered why he wasn’t given one last time he was here until he realized who had let him into the elevators. They didn’t have a chance to give him one on the way out either with how quickly he had stormed out of the building.

Natsuo shifted impatiently on his feet inside the elevator. Every now and then it would stop on a floor, and sidekicks would shuffle in and out to their respective office floors.

Why did this ride feel so long?

He was thankful that none of the sidekicks seemed talkative. Wouldn’t that have made his day better, having his fathers sidekicks bother him with questions, all probably pertaining to the man they worked for. Oh well. He didn’t think much on it, jinxing himself wouldn’t be any good.

The doors to the elevator opened and the college student was let out on Endeavor’s most chaotic floor. This was where he assumed all of the emergency calls went to with the amount of sidekicks that were rushing around with either papers in hand, phones to their ears, or just speeding out of the office and flying down the staircase exit. After blindly walking around for a few minutes and having no idea where anything was, he caved in and decided to ask a sidekick for help.

Once directed towards his office he muttered a thank you. His head tilted up, amazed at just how large the doors were. Endeavor wasn’t that big. This was just over exaggerating. Why the hell did a guy need doors that big?

It was ironic in a way though. Natsuo stood a lot taller than most of the sidekicks, so looking at him from afar he looked around Endeavor’s height compared to the door.

Like father like son, right?

He was still stuck on questioning the reason why he was told to come here. Who knows, maybe when the doors open Shoto and Fuyumi would be there as well to greet him. Fuyumi probably would have let him know beforehand though. He would have been able to tolerate this meeting a lot better if they were here…

Did his siblings even know Endeavor asked for him personally? What was this gonna be, some cheesy father to son talk? If his father knew better, this talk was going to be about something that was worth his time. He didn’t travel all the way out here from school just to be told something meaningless. Because yes, he did hold Endeavor down to that standard. Making one of his children (who he knows despises him) ditch a dinner date with his girlfriend to give him some half assed talk sounds like something he’d pull.

The doors had opened up on their own, startling the hell out of Natsuo and making him stumble back a few steps. Once he caught himself he cleared his throat and took a quick look around to make sure no one had seen him make a fool of himself.

Oh, right. They were busy with actually saving people. They didn’t have time to look at some college student being jumpscared by a door.

He entered through once there was a gap big enough for his body. The doors closed rather fast behind him, which he audibly groaned at. There was no way they closed automatically. That was way too swift. Was Endeavor just that antsy to talk to him?

Once the doors clicked shut behind him, he took a look around the grand office space. Of course his father would have something like this. There were comfy looking couches and chairs, huge floor to ceiling windows along the walls (a skylight which was propped open), and in the middle of the room, a large desk with a matching lounge chair. The leather chair was facing the opposite way of him and looked to be unoccupied.

Cool. Endeavor was late to his ‘meeting’ with him. He was the one who planned it in the first place…what a dick move. Make his very unenthused son wait in his ugly office space until he arrived.

Wait, then why did the doors close so fast? That couldn’t have been on their own.

Though what he thought to be an empty office room was proven wrong when he heard the squeak of the office chair. Natsuo straightened up as he had been startled for now what was the second time in the agency. How embarrassing.

With arms now crossed tightly to his chest, he furrowed his brows and put on the most annoyed face he could muster up.

Which was easy when he really was annoyed.

“Is this going to be a waste of my time?”

Natsuo tapped his foot impatiently against the ground waiting for his fathers very delayed response.

“I would hope not!”

…..

That wasn’t his dad. That wasn’t his dad.

Natsuo knew that voice.

When the chair fully spun, two bright wings stretched out. The man sat in the chair stretched his arms over his head and yawned, his eyes meeting Natsuo’s panicked ones.

“Y’know, for a guy who hates his dad, you got here pretty quick!”
