Pretty Good Bad Idea

Summary:

What happens when two people who clearly do not know how to man a boat try to man a boat?

Notes:

Not exactly what happens on In the Soop, but it's based on it enough. Also, hi. I am indeed alive.

Work Text:

"You're kidding, right?" Mingyu asked in disbelief. He glared at Jeonghan who already buckled his life vest to himself while holding out the second one for Mingyu to put on as well. "There's no way we are fitting on that tiny ass boat."

"Gyu, I don't know if this has ever occurred to you," Jeonghan began while passive aggressively shoving the other life vest closer and closer to Mingyu's chest, "but I am holding an umbrella, a life vest for you, and have my hair tied up. We are going into that tiny ass boat today ."

Mingyu pouted, knowing damn well arguing with Jeonghan is going to take him nowhere, especially because Jeonghan has a track record of always winning anyway. He exhaled in defeat as he grabbed the life vest and yanked it out of Jeonghan's hand. Jeonghan smiled in victory as he watched Mingyu begrudgingly put it on and be the first one to step onto the boat.

Jeonghan waited for Mingyu to get settled, whilst snickering at how wobbly the tiny boat was in comparison to the wailing, much bigger occupant that was currently trying to balance with a rowing oar. After settling himself on the bow, Mingyu looked behind and motioned for Jeonghan to sit behind him. Jeonghan gladly followed through with the plan, feeling less anxious than Mingyu as he stepped on the boat himself (mostly because Mingyu balanced the extra weight that was added onto the starboard).

Sitting down with the umbrella held over his head, Jeonghan was confused as to why Mingyu was blinking at him. "Aren't you going to start rowing?"

"Why aren't you rowing?" Mingyu asked bluntly.

Jeonghan shook the umbrella above him briefly, causing a little bit of drizzle from the sky to sprinkle onto Mingyu. Mingyu squeezed his eyes in annoyance before pulling the hood over his hair to prevent further splashing. "Umbrella holder," Jeonghan hummed.

"You're not even sharing it with me," Mingyu argued as he pulled away from the small dock they started on. Jeonghan ignored Mingyu's comment and just cheered when Mingyu started moving the boat along the lake's pleasant currents.

The weather wasn't all that bad even with the rain. It just didn't help that whenever the oar caused some water to splash upward towards the two of them, Jeonghan was the first one to get a taste of the newly spring-like freezing temperature of the water. At first, Jeonghan tried to ignore it. After all, he wasn't even doing the hard labour.

Mingyu knew of this fact too. So much so, that Mingyu purposely pulled the oar lower into the depths of the water and out high above the water enough to get a splash big enough to sprinkle onto Jeonghan.

"You're doing that on purpose," Jeonghan finally commented aloud.

Teasingly, Mingyu stopped rowing and looked behind him to make direct eye contact at Jeonghan. "Hyung, I have no idea what you're talking about," he grinned cheekily and innocently.

Jeonghan flipped the umbrella enough so that the top was caressing the surface of the water before splashing a bit towards Mingyu. Mingyu isn't the type to keep a straight face for long. He couldn't help but smile at how pissed Jeonghan looked. It was a pure moment of satisfaction.

He leaned back onto Jeonghan's lap, unknowingly causing the boat to have extra weight on the starboard, which in turn made the boat dip low enough for water to get onto Jeonghan's pants. "Hey!" Jeonghan screamed as he felt the ice cold water hit him. "My ass is freezing now! Get off of me!"

"Never!" declared Mingyu, realizing that even if this was unintentional, this was the perfect scheme to get payback. He laughed when Jeonghan pushed him off of his lap and towards the bow of the boat, cursing at him for causing the boat to hold a remainder of the water on board. Mingyu snickered and continued rowing as Jeonghan huffed his cheeks in annoyance.

"You're such an ass," Jeonghan grunted.

"Takes one to know one, huh?"

"Oh, fuck you," Jeonghan exhaled before throwing the umbrella into the lake. He stood up and started shaking Mingyu from behind by his shoulders, causing Mingyu to let go of the oar and start squealing in surprise. "Kim Mingyu, you are dead! Do you hear me? Dead!"

Mingyu squealed as the shaking caused the boat to dip from left and right into the lake, causing more water to fill the boat. This eventually caused the boat to sink lower and lower to the lake floor. The two didn't seem to notice as they were shaking each other until their legs started to tingle from the sudden freezing temperatures.

Jeonghan was the first to let go of Mingyu and scream in frustration as he tried to salvage his already soaked pants and hurry out of the lake. "You made the boat sink! This was all because of you!"

Mingyu couldn't even hear Jeonghan nagging him because he looked down at his own ruined clothes and groaned. "Oh, man. It's freezing!" he whined. "And I just washed these pants!" He screamed louder when he felt more water splashed onto the back of his hoodie. Turning around, Mingyu saw Jeonghan using the extra oar that he was supposed to have used as a means of wetting Mingyu even more.

"Take this, Kim!" Jeonghan yelled. "This is for convincing me that going on a tiny ass boat on a freezing cold lake in the middle of the forest was a good idea!"
