Chapter Text
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF THE 13TH OF MARCH
Holly walks up the little path to the front door. Her colleagues should be asleep for several hours more. She will tidy the bookshelves, make sure the equipment is where it should be, and do other quiet chores like washing last nights dishes -since it was Lockwood's turn and he never does them- until Lockwood at least wakes up, as he is the only one of the three that is a light enough sleeper to be startled awake by the washing machine's calm and steady rumbling. Instead she hears voices. She opens the door quickly and grabs a rapier from the umbrella stand. Who is up at this ungodly hour? Has someone broken in? The lights are all off. Nothing out of place. Suddenly it's silent. She steps forward and peers into the library. It's too dark to see anything. She turns on the light and screams. 3 figures are standing in the middle of the room staring glassily at her. Wordlessly they advance forward, as if in a trance, and go upstairs, where they finally burst into laughter.
*A YEAR LATER*
Holly juggles the donuts in one hand as she pulls out her keys with the other. She nudges the unlocked door open with her foot and stumbles into the kitchen. She puts the box down and moves her bag to its spot on the chair. She notices the flour and almost all the other baking ingredients are out of their spot in the cupboard. She opens the door and shrieks. Three shadow covered faces stare smiling creepily at her. Stacked on top of each other. She steps back wordlessly as George rolls out of the bottom shelf space for flour and sugar, Lucy tips forward and pours her giddily laughing self out onto the floor from her second shelf for the oils and special flours, and Lockwood slides down from the top shelf wiping tears of laughter out of his eyes, he had removed all the cans and the shelf and stacked them with Lucy's. Holly made them put everything back as they laughed and had them explain themselves.
"It's national prank day." chokes Lockwood over his laughter. Holly sternly shakes her head before leaving the room to start laundry.
*ANOTHER YEAR LATER*
"Hurry up! WE'VE GOT TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIT INSIDE THE WASHING MACHINE!" Lockwood pulls a groaning Lucy and a half asleep George down the stairs. If you paid attention, you would notice a small and skinny shadow sweeping full speed to the basement. By the time they are at the spiral staircase Lucy is fully awake and as excited as Lockwood and George has stopped grumbling. They fling open the machine door and all of them let out an extremely high pitched shriek as a hand jumps out and grabs Lockwood by the leg. Lucy is crushed under Lockwood as he falls back and tries to escape. George just watches, dumbstruck. Finally the hand releases Lockwood and Holly just dies laughing in the bottom of the washing machine.
"YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN YOU'RE FACE!!" She gasp for air. "YOU LOOK LIKE YOU WERE ABOUT TO PISS YOURSELF-" Lucy and George are now laughing wither her. Doubled over and dying. Lockwood just stares at the ceiling.
"I think prank day has had quite a run." George says straightening his glasses.
"It has." Lucy agrees.
