Work Text:

New year's eve, 11:25 pm, 2015. Sasha’s apartment was full of laughter and the chatter of her colleagues. She scans the room, looking around at her coworkers. Jon is sitting in a corner chatting with Martin over some tea, nothing unusual there. Elias had found the wine, and was leaning on a wall with a freshly poured glass of wine, rose wine if she remembered what was in the cupboard right. Rosie was to his side, chattering about something, looking frustrated with him. If she had to guess he may have said something stupid. Again.

Sasha shakes her head a bit, pushing away her thoughts. She looks around, trying to find Tim. After a couple moments she spots him, he’s in the living room, chattering with some of their other friends. He seems to be enjoying himself. She grabs a pop from the fridge and makes her way over to him. She’d been wanting to talk to him, but hadn’t had a chance with how busy work had been. Maybe now would be a good chance.

Tim looks up as Sasha approaches. He meets her eyes from across the room, giving her a warm smile. God, she loved that smile. It was safe, familiar, soft. Sasha leans against the couch where Tim is sitting, glancing at the TV. Looks like the guys have turned on the yearly countdown.

"Hey, Sasha! What's up?" Tim slips his phone into his pocket, turning his full attention to her. Looking at her from this angle, the overhead light almost looks like a halo around her head.

"I've been wanting to talk to you.. Haven't had a chance to catch up in all the rush." she looks over to the balcony, then back to Tim, "Wanna get some fresh air?"

He nods, standing up and following her over to the balcony. The noise of the apartment is dulled by the closed door, becoming a mere hum in the quiet night. It's chilly, the cool air creeps up on the pair, but neither really seem to care.

"What a year, huh?" Sasha leans against the railing, looking out at the streets below.

Tim nods, leaning next to her. "Yeah, it sure has been a lot."

The two chat for a bit, talking about their plans for the next year, about what they think will happen. Tim makes an offhand comment about Elias, and Sasha can't help but laugh. It feels like no time before the countdown reaches the last couple of minutes.

"Tim?"

"Yeah Sasha?"

"I'm glad I got to spend it with you."

Tim turns to fully face her, meeting her gaze as he takes her hands. Sasha stares up at him, a soft smile crossing her face.

"Wanna do it again?" He asks, grinning at her.

Sasha can't help laughing. "God of course… Of course.." More than anything….

As the countdown nears its end, He takes her face into his hands, cupping her face gently. He stares at her a moment longer, taking in every detail of her face, every freckle, every blemish. This was the face of someone he cared about so deeply. And as the clock runs out, he pulls Sasha into a kiss. He's certain that this year will be a good one.
