Alice had that vision again, she was in a meadow, so quiet she could hear the breath of the wind, every leaf rustle in the trees, if her heart could beat, it would've been loud as a drum. Lying down in the grass, she turned her golden eyes away from the cloud she’d been fixed on. There was a girl there, with a peaches-and-cream complexion and chestnut waves of hair cascading down her back. She was drawn to her magnetically, as if they’d known each other for a lifetime. Without even speaking, the girl leaned in and kissed Alice. Then everything went black. She’d been having visions of scenarios like this a lot lately, all different, with one thing remaining constant. The mystery girl was always there, but she could never remember a face. She wanted so badly, even for someone as brightly disposed and optimistic as Alice always was, she knew something was missing, and recently it became clear this mystery girl seemed to be her answer. She even told her confidante and brother Edward, as if he hadn’t already read her mind. He was hopeful but skeptical, “Alice, you know how subjective these visions are, I don’t want you to get hurt if nothing comes of it in the end”. But Alice knew there would be, after all, it wasn’t just one vision, her enigma had to exist somewhere. She just hadn’t met her yet.
Repeating high school for the 20th or so time was such a drag, but today felt different, lighter somehow with the promise of her “dream girl” popping through the doors of her precalc class. She scribbled down answers to the equations she’d memorized by heart at this point and exchanged her quiz for a hall pass. In the bathroom mirror, she ran her fingers through her spiky hair and tried to smooth out non-existent wrinkles on her white blouse and grey waistcoat. In case today was the day that she saw in her visions, she wanted to be prepared. Just then, two girls entered, gossiping loudly about a new transfer student. “Apparently she’s from Arizona” said the shorter of the two girls in a tone that made it sound like she was coming from another planet. “She’s in my biology class, I guess her dad’s an officer here or whatever”. This wasn’t her mystery girl, this girl was from Arizona and the girl in her visions looked like she would’ve burnt at the mention of sunlight. How many transfer students did Forks get anyways? It was unlikely she’d show up today or even in the next few years. Feeling dejected, she went on to her next class and the day felt longer than the 31,000+ since her heart stopped beating.
With the day finally over, she headed to the parking lot. Her Porsche was finally out of the shop and Alice was looking forward to taking it for a spin. While heading over, a girl clad in a brown jacket and mittens knocked into her, sending her down to the ground. Alice helped her up, maybe too easily and asked if she was okay. The girl answered, “I’m totally fine, this happens to me all the time” Alice finally saw the face that escaped her for so many visions. “I’m glad you’re okay! I’m Alice, are you new here?” The brunette answered, “Yeah, I’m Bella, I just moved down here from Arizona.” She clambered into her old red pickup truck, turned it on and it made the most awful grinding noise. “Need a ride home?” Alice asked, “Absolutely,” said Bella.
Sitting in Alice’s car, Bella turned and said “I wish I could’ve made a better introduction”. Alice just said “I know we’re going to be great friends”, she knew the rest.
