Work Text:
Tsukasa didn’t know how he ended up in this situation; looking through a drawer in Rui’s room and picking out some colors — nail polish colors, just so Rui could paint his nails. He didn’t know why he agreed to this— well he did know… they had just finished looking over a script and they were bored. But, he never expected to actually land in this kind of situation.
Not that Tsukasa was complaining by any means, he enjoyed spending time with Rui. That, and he was just surprised to find that the other male had an actual drawer filled with nail polish.
“you’re taking quite a bit of time, Tsukasa-kun.” Rui commented, the blond didn’t even bat an eye, and simply made an annoyed expression.
“There’s too many choices.” He uttered, grabbing one of the nail polish bottles and staring at it before putting it back.
“And you’re indecisive, fufu!” Rui chuckled, which made the blond roll his eyes. Eventually he found a nice shade of lavender, grabbing it and now standing up. He approached Rui, sitting down next to him on the couch. Rui looked at the small bottle in his hand, a small smile on his face. “That’s a fairly nice shade, I don’t remember the last time I used it though.”
Tsukasa raised a brow, but didn’t question him further. He simply handed the bottle to the taller male.
“Did you get the base coat?” Rui asked.
“What.” Tsukasa replied.
“I guess not.” Rui sighed.
“…is that what the clear things in the some of the bottles were?” Tsukasa asked confusingly, He swore he could see pain flash through Rui’s eyes for a moment as the taller male nodded.
“It’s fine! We don’t need it.” Rui said, smiling. “It’s not like we’re doing anything professional.” He shrugged. “Now give me your hand, please.”
And so Tsukasa did what he was asked, he held out his hand, to which Rui took in with one his hands. With his free hand he opened the bottle and started applying a few thin coats onto Tsukasa’s nail.
“Aren’t you forgetting a specific step?” Tsukasa asked, it’s not like he knew exactly what Rui was forgetting. But it felt like something was missing—
“I’m not an expert at pushing back someone’s cuticle, I would probably end up harming you in some way.” He said it as simple and straight to the point. And yet his eyes never once left Tsukasa’s hand. “The last thing I’d want is to hurt you just because I wanted to paint your nails.” Rui sighed.
“Ah.” Tsukasa blurted out awkwardly. “I see.”
A few moments of silence followed. With Rui being concentrated on painting Tsukasa’s nail, and Tsukasa just watching him silently. Eventually, after the other finished the first few coats, he looked up at the blond then back at his hand.
“Something wrong?” Tsukasa asked.
“The color looks really good on you, fufu.” Rui commented.
The blond could feel his cheeks burn up slightly, but that didn’t stop a smile from forming on his face. “Of course it does! I wouldn’t have picked it if I didn’t think it would look good.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” Rui agreed. “I’m sure any color would look amazing on you.” The taller male’s second comment was slightly softer in its tone, his smile filled with warmth. Which caught the blond off guard. He couldn’t help but just stare at Rui for a moment, before clearing his throat and catching the other’s attention.
“Well! Aren’t you going to pick a color? It’s my turn now!” Tsukasa said rather loudly. Rui stared at the other before smiling.
“Right.” The purple-haired male stood up, then went towards the drawer. He kneeled down, and unlike Tsukasa, picked his color — and the goddamn base coat rather quickly. Returning to the couch, and sitting down next to the blond.
“We should wait a bit.”
“Why so?”
“I just finished painting your nails, we should wait until it dries.”
“Oh.”
A small moment of silence followed between the two, until Tsukasa eventually spoke up.
“What color did you pick?”
Rui held up the bottle that he picked, a yellow color, one that resembled selective yellow. Tsukasa smiled. “I’m sure that’ll look great on you!” He declared.
The other male chuckled. “I’m sure it will too.” He said, agreeing with the blond. “That’s why I picked it, after all.” He added, the looked at the bottle. “That, and because it reminds me of someone.” He glanced at Tsukasa, a warm smile on his face. For a moment, the blond was confused, but then…
Suddenly he felt his cheeks turning red again, as he took the nail polish and base from Rui’s hands.
“Let’s start now, shall we? Haha…!”
When he looked at Rui again, he could his expression dropped. And his eyes were on Tsukasa’s hands.
“What?” Tsukasa said, confusingly.
“You smudged your nails.” Rui deadpanned.
“Oh.”
