Not Boring

Summary:

When Jimmy Palmer spots an ex-girlfriend at a bar it doesn't go so well especially when his ex meets reader. Reader and Jimmy decide they have something to prove to his ex.

Work Text:

He felt stupid for even being upset that she was here. It wasn’t as though he was still hung up on her. He’d moved on with his life. It had been a little over a year since he’d seen her last. So there was no reason for him to be so sour to see here in this bar. Maybe it was just that the last time he’d seen her things had been so painful?

She was a rebound to be honest. After his disastrous “relationship” with Agent Michelle Lee, Jimmy had felt a little lost. Yes, he’d been the one who had done the breaking up with Lee...but still it had been painful.

He’d just wanted to find love. He’d wanted a real relationship. What he’d had with Lee had just been physical. He’d begged for the relationship to move just past hooking up around NCIS and on the occasional bar outing with coworkers, but Lee hadn’t been keen to the idea. The idea of commitment had made her itchy, Michelle had claimed. She just wasn’t ready to settle down. She’d insisted that Jimmy was a nice guy, but she didn’t want to pursue anything passed sex.

So Jimmy had broken up with her and  had found himself back on the dating scene.

He’d taken a risk and had given online dating a try. Dr. Mallard had encouraged the concept of online dating much to Jimmy’s shock. He’d insisted to Jimmy that Jimmy was at a great advantage. The advance of technology had placed him at a great advantage when it came to pursuing love. He could make connections so easily online.

That’s how Jimmy met Carrie. She’d seemed like she was out of his league to be honest. She worked as a paralegal. He’d been hesitant about contacting her. Michelle had worked in the legal side of NCIS and the idea of dating another person involved in a legal career made Jimmy feel a little hesitant. Didn’t Gibbs say not to trust lawyers? Carrie was beautiful. She’d seemed so intelligent and elegant and Jimmy had felt inadequate. Jimmy had decided that love required taking risks though. The worst thing she could do was reject him.

Much to his surprise she’d been responsive to his attentions. They’d managed to have a few dates and she’d seemed open to the idea of pursuing a serious relationship.

He’d been elated. He’d felt as though he’d finally found the love he’d craved.

Things had been hot, but then they’d gone cold.

Carrie had begun to cancel their dates. She’d begun to ignore his texts and his calls or she just replied with one word responses to text messages. She was pulling away from him with no explanation.

He’d blamed himself. He knew his career was demanding. He was working and in school and both demanded a lot of attention from him. He’d decided that he had to fight for her. He just needed to prove to her that he cared for her and that he wanted to fight for them.

So he’d pulled out the big guns. He’d bought flowers and a bottle of wine he knew Carrie liked. He’d decided to surprise her with a romantic visit to her apartment for a night of romance.

He’d arrived at her apartment ready to romance Carrie only to discover that his girlfriend wasn’t alone.

She’d met someone new and had decided not to notify Jimmy of the news.

Much to his shock she’d obviously been in the midst of a passionate night with her new beau. She’d seemed apologetic at least.

She’d sighed , cutting Jimmy to the core. “ I just didn’t know how to tell you Jimmy. It’s just...you’re a nice guy, but you’re so... boring. I need something more. I need some excitement. I didn’t want it to happen like this. Sorry. I think you should go.”

Jimmy could admit he’d maybe blamed himself. After things had ended with Michelle Lee, Jimmy had decided to pull back on his risk-taking behavior. He didn’t want to be the guy who hooked up with his girlfriend at work and occasionally at bars. He wanted to grow up.  He’d told himself he wanted to find a nice girl and settle down. He just wanted something stable.

Apparently Carrie wasn’t looking for stability.

Jimmy had felt his heart shatter that night.

He’d told himself that his heart would never be repaired. He was two for two in bad relationships. All of his relationships went to utter crap. Maybe he was just meant to be alone?

Then Y/N Y/L/N had walked into his life and changed everything.

She was brought in by Dr. Mallard to help consult on a case. They had a dead man on the autopsy table who seemed to be covered with tattoos, all words intricately written in Russian.

Dr. Mallard insisted he knew someone who was an expert in translating Russian.

Jimmy had been expecting someone much older. He’d pictured some academic older individual much closer to Dr. Mallard’s age. He had honestly been expecting someone just like Dr. Mallard.

He had not been expecting the pretty young woman to walk into Autopsy, Dr. Mallard was quick to give her a warm embrace “Y/N, thank you for coming on such short notice!”

She’d given Dr. Mallard a polite smile returning the embrace. “I’m happy to help.”

Jimmy had stood by dumbfounded as Dr. Mallard had made the introductions between Jimmy and their guest.

Dr. Mallard had explained that Y/N’s parents were old friends of Dr. Mallard’s and Y/N was a gifted translator. She had dedicated her education to studying several languages. She had been a gifted child and had been able to begin her university education when she was only fifteen.

She had felt her cheeks flush as Tony had asked her if she was some sort of genius.

She’d spoken, her cheeks still flushed. “I don’t feel that it’s fair to claim I'm a genius. Intelligence can’t really be accurately quantified. IQ tests are flawed. I believe everyone is a genius. I may be capable of many things, but I’m sure I couldn’t do Dr. Mallard’s or your jobs. I may be good at translations. I would be classified as an idiot if you asked me to perform an autopsy or fire a gun though.”

With that little statement Jimmy had fallen in love.

It was hard not to be infatuated with her. She was beautiful as she was kind and brilliant.

He’d felt himself melt when her eyes had met his. He was quite sure he’d never seen a prettier pair of eyes in his entire life. Everything about her was pretty. He was sure that pretty wasn’t even a fair description. She was stunning, gorgeous, enchanting.

He guessed the moon-eyes he’d been shooting her were obvious, because Dr. Mallard had been fast to speak before Y/N had a chance to leave. “You really must join me for lunch. Mr. Palmer and I had plans to grab a bite to eat. We’d love to have you join us.”

Much to Jimmy’s relief she’d agreed to do so.

It had become obvious just what Dr. Mallard was planning since they’d barely all had a chance to sit down for lunch when Dr. Mallard had insisted that he just remembered he had a prior engagement he must attend to right at that very moment. He’d insisted that Jimmy and Y/N enjoy lunch on his card.

The words had left Y/N the second Dr. Mallard had left them alone “Why does it feel like he planned this?”

Jimmy had felt his cheeks flush, his insecurities rising, he stumbling over his own words. “Is it a problem? I mean...you don’t...you know. If you aren’t comfortable…”

He didn’t have a chance to continue as she’d spoken, interrupting him. “No I’m not uncomfortable. I mean...if you aren’t.”

Jimmy had insisted that he was not uncomfortable at all. The lunch had been nice. He’d felt at ease with her. He felt as though he could talk to her for hours.

So he’d asked her to have dinner with him that weekend and much to his relief and joy she’d said yes.

That was all it had taken. They’d been happy. He was in love with Y/N. He finally felt as though he had that stable love he wanted so badly. They’d been together for six months now. He’d met her parents and she’d met his mom. They’d already exchanged I love yous. They introduced one another as boyfriend and girlfriend. They were happy together.

If he was so happy though, then why did seeing Carrie here make him feel sick to his stomach.

He felt the tension melt from his body only slightly as Y/N rubbed his upper back concern washing over her features. They’d decided to meet up for a drink, Y/N insisting Jimmy needed to relax after the workweek he’d had. She could admit she was worried seeing how tense he looked at the moment.  “Are you okay?”

He only allowed his eyes to wander over to Carrie for a brief moment before he turned back to his girlfriend, guilt swallowing him as he spoke “I’m okay.”

Y/N frowned, spotting the gaze he’d shot the girl across the bar. “Are you sure? Do you know her?”

He felt that guilt swallow him all the more, knowing he might as well just dig his grave and be honest. “You remember when we first started dating...and we talked about our previous relationships?”

Y/N frowned a bit lost as to what this conversation had to do with anything. She widened her eyes as it hit her. “Oh.”

Jimmy shifted in place, his heart aching at the tone of voice she used at her revelation. He spoke knowing he had to do some serious damage control before she assumed the worst. “That’s Carrie.”

He took a deep breath fast to speak again. “I’m over her. I promise. I just, I mean you know how it ended with her. I...I told you about it. I don’t think I ever really got closure with her. Not on my terms.”

“You told me.” Y/N provided her bottom lip becoming trapped between her teeth, she chewing on it, a habit he’d noticed she had when she was deep in thought and anxious.

He reached out placing a hand on the side of her face trying to reassure her. “I love you.”

She managed to speak her stomach in knots. “I love you too.”

The conversation didn’t have a chance to advance as the very woman who’d inspired this discussion approached them. “Jimmy?”

He reluctantly allowed Y/N to pull from him, his hand leaving her cheek as Carrie approached them. He spoke his voice tight. “Hello.”

Carrie spoke oblivious to the tension. “It’s been so long. I’m surprised to see you. I thought you weren’t big on the bar scene?”

Jimmy shifted in place forcing his gaze to meet hers. “I like bars just fine.”

He took a deep breath knowing he only had one shot not to fuck everything up. “Carrie, this is Y/N, my girlfriend.”

Y/N let out a breath she hadn’t even realized she was holding. She tried to hold her head up and seem less like an insecure mess as Carrie’s eyes met her, the woman’s smile dropping slightly.

The discomfort on Carrie’s features only lasted a moment before she recovered. “Oh, are you on a date? Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

She reached for a bar napkin pulling a pen from her purse in a brazen move. “I’ll leave my number, we should catch up.”

Jimmy took a deep breath fast to react, making his position clear. “I have your number blocked.”

Carrie widened her eyes, the discomfort washing over her features again. She spoke clearly, not taking no for an answer. “I know things between us ended messily…”

Y/N took her chance, anger washing over unable to believe the audacity of this woman. She was trying to reconnect when it was clear Jimmy had a girlfriend. Y/N wasn’t just going to bend over and give him up. “It ended. If you’ll excuse us.”

She took Jimmy’s hand, pulling him from the bar stools off into the crowd. Jimmy spoke anxiety setting in along with a sense of discomfort and the sense that he should have done or said more. “I’m so sorry. I swear to you I am over her.”

Y/N spoke knowing that there was only one thing she could say. “Prove it.”

Jimmy nodded his head quickly deciding it was time to stop playing it safe. He needed to take a risk.

He grasped onto her hand leading her to the corner of the bar towards the restrooms.

Y/N widened her eyes as Jimmy pulled her into the bathroom relieved that it was one of those unisex one person bathrooms. The bar was small enough not to require more.

He locked the door behind them knowing that this wasn’t his first experience with a public quickie. He couldn’t think of another way to make it clear to her that he was truly over his ex though.

His lips met Y/N’s he shoving her against the wall, his hands all over her caressing her relieved she’d worn a dress tonight. It would make this a little easier.

Y/N returned the kiss enthusiastically, her arms wrapping around him.

A small smug part of Y/N’s brain couldn’t help but to think that this was the perfect way to shove it in Carrie’s face. Carrie thought Jimmy was boring. This wasn’t boring.

It was clear Carrie wanted him back but she wasn’t getting him. Y/N pressed her lips to Jimmy’s neck biting down a little harsher than she usually would a groan leaving him. She couldn’t help but to want to mark him up and make it clear that he was hers.

Jimmy easily slid his hands up her thighs, his fingers finding the lace of her panties, he pulling them down.

He pulled from her, she kicking her panties aside, as he navigated her over towards the bathroom counter. He dropped down to his knees making it clear what he had planned. He spoke, pulling her dress up, exposing her a moan leaving him. “I am going to prove to you that you’re the only one I want.”

It took a little effort but Jimmy managed to get her to sit up on the counter he spreading  her legs. It angle was awkward but he wasted no time to bury his face against her center lapping at her she crying out. She was thankful for the music playing out in the bar knowing it was loud enough to most likely muffle her noises.

She buried her hands in his hair digging her fingers into his scalp as he ate her out paying special attention to her clit sucking at the sensitive little bud. She whined, always astounded that Jimmy was this great at giving oral. He always gave it 110%. He was a far cry above any other guy who had attempted to go down on her.

She dared to glance down at him gasping as his eyes met hers, his glasses fogging up somewhat but he didn’t allow it to deter him.

She whined as he used his fingers running them along her center coating them with her wetness before plunging one and then two fingers into her, working her as his lips focused on her clit. She closed her eyes, her head falling back the sensations washing over her intense Jimmy, clearly determined to please her.

She couldn’t stop herself from whining his name Jimmy moaning against her in response, causing vibrations against her throbbing clit.

She felt her back arch, her thighs beginning to quiver, her fingers gripping down on his hair twisting it painfully.

He curled his fingers hitting her at the perfect angle, his tongue circling her clit enthusiastically she whimpering his name once again.

He could feel his trousers growing tight to the point of it being almost painful but he didn’t dare allow himself to pull from her and pull down his zipper or massage himself to relieve some tension.

He had a mission and he wasn’t going to stop until he made her cum.

She gasped her fingers gripping his hair all the tighter she beginning to attempt to pull from him the sensations washing over her growing far too intense, but Jimmy held her against him refusing to let up knowing she was almost there.

She came hard, crying out his name all fears of possibly being overheard fading from her brain in her orgasmic bliss.

He pulled from her once he was sure she was worked through her orgasm and was coming back down.

She gazed down at him he giving her a small smile as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

She pulled his glasses from his face as he stood up she tired of having her ability to see his eyes obscured by the fog he’d built up upon his lenses. Oral sex and glasses didn’t exactly mix.

She placed them aside as his lips met hers, she moaning at the taste of her on his lips.

He reached between them making quick work of unfastening his belt and his pants. He allowed them to fall to his ankles she daring to reach between them grasping his cock. She moaned against his lips, her fingers sliding along him, her thumb brushing along the tip smearing the precum that was already leaking from him.

He gasped against her, his hips rutting against her touch on their own accord.

He reached between them gently swatting her hand away as he took himself in his hand. He slid his cock along her center, coating it with her.

He managed to speak against her lips, almost ashamed to say it outloud. He could already feel his balls aching though singling that all good things had to come to an end. The excitement and risk of what they were doing was getting to him all too quickly. It had been so long since he’d done anything like this.  “I don’t think I’ll last long.”

She spoke fast to reassure him, her words making him moan. “I don’t care, just fuck me.”

He groaned needing no further inspiration. He lined himself up at her entrance and thrust forward muffling her moans against his lips.

He wasted no time to thrust into her at a rapid pace everything in him screaming to show her that she was the only woman for him. He didn’t care about Carrie. He didn’t care about Michelle. He didn’t care about the pathetically small number of girls he’d dated prior to her. Y/N was all he wanted. She was all he needed. She was his everything.

He kept his lips locked against hers as he thrust against her one of his hands yanking the front of her dress down along with her bra he massaging her breast only intensifying the sensations washing over her.

He’d never been this rough with her before and she had to love it. Sure they’d taken a few experimental positions in the bedroom but Jimmy had always been a little gentler with his movements. She had certainly never imagined he’d fuck her in a public bathroom. She had a feeling that her boyfriend was vanilla and she hadn’t minded it, but she was quickly realizing that Jimmy wasn’t as vanilla as she’d assumed.

She moved her lips down to his neck once again determined to leave a mark behind. He buried his face against her neck, biting back just as ready to return the favor.

She dug her fingers into his back as he continued to thrust against her the only sound in the bathroom was their muffled groans and his skin meeting hers.

She whined as he pulled his hand from her breast placing it at the small of her back pulling her closer to him as he began to grind against her he groaning against her neck.

He spoke against her neck, his words muffled. “I love you.”

She gasped, managing to reply her words just as muffled. “Love you.”

He continued to move against her, his lips pressing to hers once again the kiss deep, he trying to pour exactly how he felt into the kiss, needing to make it clear to her. He wanted her to have no reason to ever doubt his love for her. He wanted to make it clear to her that no one would pull him from her. He was hers forever. He was hers for as long as she’d have him. He prayed she’d want him forever.

He moaned as she slid a hand between them, her fingers finding her clit she working it knowing she needed a little extra help to help her meet her end for the second time tonight.

He gazed down between them a groan leaving him at the sight of her touching herself and his cock sliding in and out of her the mess they were making evident.

He pressed his face back against her neck a groan leaving him his words shaky. “I can’t...Oh, God, I’m so close. I’m so fucking close. Baby please.”

She moaned his words egging her on she rubbing herself a bit more rapidly knowing she was just as close. It had hit her all at once, her body beginning to quiver as she felt herself slide closer and closer towards the edge.

He spoke, his voice still so needy. “I love you. Only you, you’re all I need. Please baby, please.”

She gasped unsure if he was begging her to cum for him or just begging her to believe in his love for her. Either way it was working, she gasping the words leaving her. “Almost there. Just a little longer Jimmy.”

He grunted the sound of his name on her lips, not making it easier to hold back his own impending orgasm.

He was throbbing almost painfully he almost sure he’d never been this close to cumming this fast in his entire life.

She couldn’t stop herself from shaking against him, his name falling from her lips again as she felt herself beginning to fall over the edge. Her center fluttered around him squeezing him so tightly he almost felt himself go cross eyed.

She moaned against his neck, his thrusts growing sloppy, his knees growing weak as he felt his own end sneak up on him rapidly.

She spoke encouraging him her body so sensitive as she came down from her orgasm she wanting him to reach his. “Cum for me Jimmy, please. Show me you love me.”

He buried his face against her neck a deep groan leaving him as he let go her words all it took for him to cum. He felt himself spill into her, his body shaking. He grinded against her as he came, rubbing his back reassuringly as he spilled the last of his release into her.

He remained buried inside of her, his body still shaking her hands still rubbing his back as they struggled to regain the ability to move.

He felt his cheeks flush thanking his lucky stars that no one had attempted to use the restroom during any of this.

He reluctantly pulled from her body knowing that their luck might run out at any moment. He gazed down at her center, a groan leaving him as he spotted the mess he’d made his cum leaking from her. Thank god for the pill.

He made quick work grabbing a paper towel from the dispenser and wetting it with warm water before he began to clean her his lips pressing to her temple as she tried to recover herself.

He dared to speak as he tossed the paper towel into the trash bin. “Did I prove myself?”

She couldn’t stop the giggle from leaving her she unsure if it was the post orgasmic haze or just her adoration of him hitting her all at once.

She managed to hop down from the counter her legs feeling a little shaky she ignoring the smug look on his lips as it hit him he’d made her legs feel like jello.

She spoke, answering his question. “I think you did.”

He managed to fetch her panties from the floor she sliding them back on they both turning to face the mirror they trying to make themselves look as though they hadn’t just fucked in a public restroom.

Jimmy reached down taking her hand in his once he was sure they both looked presentable. He felt the words leave him he needing to make it clear. “I love you. I mean it. You aren’t some rebound for me or some way for me to get over Carrie. I love you so much. You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. I didn’t think I was meant to find love before we met. I’d failed so many times, and then I met you. You gave me the love I’d wanted my entire life. I’m so thankful for your love.”

She felt her eyes grow a little damp at his words. She pressed her lips to his cheek knowing that there was only one way she could reply. “I love you too. You make it easy to love you.”

They sighed as they heard a rapid knock at the bathroom door hinting that their time was up.

They felt their cheeks flush, hitting them that it might be obvious what they were up to given that this was a one person bathroom.

They averted their eyes to the ground ready to do a walk of shame as they opened the door thankful that the person on the other side seemed to be pretty tipsy.

The man rolled his eyes as he spoke a huff leaving him. “Fucking seriously?”

They managed to work their way past him their cheeks flushing.

The embarrassment faded as they realized someone else was very aware of what they’d been doing. Carrie stared at them wide eyed her own cheeks flushed.

Jimmy was surprised as he felt nothing at the sight of Carrie. Any of the heartache he’d felt earlier in the night was gone in an instant.

Why feel upset at the sight of Carrie when he had the love of his life standing right beside him.

He wrapped an arm around Y/N’s waist making a point to pull her close not minding the smug look she sent Carrie as they walked towards the bar exit.

They were ready to leave his ex behind. Carrie was his past. Y/N was his future.
