KING RHAEGAR TARGARYEN
Life had not been easy for Rhaegar Targaryen. To be a king was easy but to be a just king was difficult. To bear burden of prophecy which could preserve or destroy whole living world was even more difficult. Explaining a six year old son whom he had never met about why he had to suffer was most difficult task of his life. But alas! Aemon was Prince that was Promised and without suffering could not fulfill challenges ahead of him. It appeared cruel to put so much burden on someone so young but Targaryen way had always been of Fire and Blood.
JON SNOW/ AEMON TARGARYEN
Jon Snow had fallen asleep after crying for long time. In six years of his miserable life he for first time understood why everyone treated him differently from his siblings. Guards and servants some times called him "Bastard" But he didn't knew what Bastard meant. Septa Morden today in reply to Robb's innocent question told that 'Bastards as sinful creatures born out of lust'. Now before falling asleep Jon Snow knew that he was nothing more than 'Stain on Honor of his Noble father Ned Stark'
"You are not a bastard". The voice was melodious and clear, Jon Snow was sure that this is no ordinary dream.
" Who are you, show yourself"
An image of silver haired man with violent eyes came in his dream vision. This man was more handsome than any Jon had seen in his life. His pale skin had an outwardly lustre. The man was tearful but broadly smiling at him.
Jon asked "who are you?"
" I am your father King Rhaegar Targaryen"
"How can you be my father? My father is Lord Eddard Stark"
" He is not your father but your uncle"
"Then who is my mother"
" You are trueborn son of me and Princess Lyanna Targaryen"
Suddenly a nagging doubt came in Jon's mind- his father Lord Stark had never told name of his mother and always said 'you are my blood, never said I am your father'
Rhaegar- "Son does Ned Stark appears to be a person who would betray his marriage vows so soon after his marriage?"
Jon- "Uncle Benjen said that stress of war makes man do things which they otherwise never do".
Rhaegar- "Think an army fighting war does not remain at one place. If your mother would have been a camp follower others would have seen her. For you to be born at end of war Ned Stark would have to met your mother in Riverland than how and why you were born in Dorne? Kingsguard only guard royal family, what three Kingsguard including Lord Commander were doing in Dorne?" "I will tell you- they were protecting who they thought to be their King i.e you".
Jon- "They could have been protecting Aunt Lyanna on your order"
Rhaegar- "I was just a Crown Prince, I didn't had authority of ordering Kingsguard to guard anyone who is not part of royal family. Kingsguard do not accept any woman as member of royal family unless marriage gets accepted by the King. Only your grandfather King Aerys could have given such order".
Jon- " You mean the Mad King"
Rhaegar- " He was not always like this, prolonged torture in captivity can twist anyone's mind. He had already paid for his deeds with his death. There is no need to bad mouth your dead grandfather. Until today before talking to me you considered me also as Mad Prince. Only father knew reason of whatever he did. Kingship has made me more sympathetic towards his burdens."
Overall Rhaegar was relieved that Aemon accepted him as his father with ease.
"How can you be here you are dead, Am I really dreaming"
" You are dreaming but it doesn't mean that what is happening is not real. These are called dragon dreams. I am alive and living in Valayria with your siblings"
To believe that dream was real was absurd but Jon Snow knew that even in dream he did not had so much imagination to think of something so intricate and complicated. All this was too absurd to be false, so must be truth
