Somebody Else

Summary:

Jester is over the break up. Right?

Notes:

This is based on the song Somebody Else by VÉRITÉ so you should listen to that if you can. Great song.

Work Text:

Jester and Beau’s break up didn’t shake the group to it’s core. It didn’t make them choose sides, and it was okay. They could stay friends. Jester could get over her feelings since Beau didnt feel the same. It was fine. She was fine.

They only hung out in group settings, never alone. Which was also fine. They were doing good. So why did Jester feel like the floor just fell out from under her and she was in a free fall? She certainly didn’t want Beau anymore.

Yet there she was. At first she thought that Fjord was joking. She thought that there was no way Beau had moved on yet. It was only two months ago. Two months. Was that really enough time for Beau to no longer feel things about their break up?

But there she was, at Nott’s end of the semester party with Yasha’s hand in her back pocket while she leaned forward and kissed Yasha. Jester looked down at her soda while she leaned against the wall of the kitchen.

The thing was that Jester really didn’t want Beau anymore. She didn’t want someone who was checked out emotionally, someone who fought her on everything, someone she couldn’t intertwine her soul with. But she hated the thought of Beau with somebody else.

And Yasha was nice, she was. And Jester liked Yasha. Thought that they’d compliment each other’s personalities nicely. But she still hated it.

Jester looked back up at Beau and saw that she was alone. She stared through Beau while Beau stared through her phone. She looked up at Jester and gave a half smile with a little wave and Jester forced a smile back then broke eye contact. Yasha came back as Jester looked back towards Beau and saw them exchange words then start to walk towards where some of there friends were gathered playing a drinking game.

“Hey guys, we’re gonna head out. I have training with Dairon tomorrow morning.” Beau said to the group.

Everyone said bye and Jester hoped that Beau wouldn’t seek her out to say goodbye to her. Jester didn’t think she could take it if she had to actually see Beau leaving with somebody else.

If she had to see that Beau wasn’t leaving with her.

Thankfully Beau left without saying goodbye to Jester.

At their last fight, their break up fight, Beau had said that she needed to find somebody else, somebody who understood her. Jester knew that Beau would find someone she’d love, someone she’d need. But she never thought it’d be this soon, that she’d be seeing it this closely, that it would be someone she knows.

Jester goes to the kitchen and pours 5 shots. She’d never drank before, but this seemed like a good way to forget tonight. She choked on the first shot, not expecting the burn. The second one she coughed a little over and the third was smooth. By the fourth, things were going fuzzy. And she didn’t remember the fifth.
