Work Text:
“I told you we should have asked for directions.”
“Babe, I don’t need directions. I know where we’re going.”
Jungkook snorts with a chuckle, rolling his eyes as the chilly air of January seeps through the open windows of their small rental car. The younger can tell his boyfriend is having trouble with where to go, the furrowed brows and the way the lower half of his lip is bitten in between his teeth are a dead giveaway, but he decides to keep quiet.
He’ll just wait until he’s ready to admit that he has no clue where he’s going.
In the meantime, he winds up the window to protect himself from the cold and watches the city with his big doe eyes. It’s so beautiful at night, he thinks before his eyes land on Buckingham Palace, a pout tugging at his lips as they zoom right by it.
He turns to face his boyfriend. “We forgot to visit Buckingham Palace Tae!”
Taehyung steals a quick glance at him before looking back at the road, taking a sharp turn that has both of them jerking to the side suddenly. Neither of them are bothered by it though. Jungkook is usually the driver and way more smooth about it, but Taehyung wanted to try this time and he can’t say no, especially when he uses those puppy eyes on him.
“Aw, I'm sorry baby.” His boyfriend of eight years grabs his hand, bringing it up to his lips to place a kiss on his skin.
Jungkook blushes.
No matter how long they’ve been together, it always feels like the first time. “Maybe we can come back one day.”
“I hope so, that was on my bucket list.”
Taehyung gives him one more kiss before letting go and focusing on driving while the brunette looks back out the window.
He’s going to miss London. He’s going to miss how alive the city is, how the lights echo the stars hanging above, and of course the fresh air and delicious food. He sighs, leaning his head against the glass and wishing they could stay just a little bit longer. One week is just not enough, especially with everything both Jungkook and Taehyung were craving to do in such a big and new city.
But he knows they can’t. Once they get back to their motel, they don’t have a lot of time before they have to get on a plane and head to their next stop.
To their next job.
“THIS IS THE POLICE, PULL OVER NOW!”
Jungkook hears Taehyung groan from the driver's seat, but they both ignore the two police cars speeding behind them. Jungkook doesn’t really understand the English words being shouted through the microphone, but he’s guessing it’s not anything they’ll like. He glances at the rearview mirror, watching the cops steadily approaching their bumper more and more.
“Pass me my gun,” Jungkook says, his words caught and swallowed by the sound of sirens rapidly closing in on them, but Taehyung seems to hear him anyway.
Jungkook didn’t want to have to use his gun today, but they’re a little too close for comfort. So with one hand on the steering wheel, as he whips the car from lane to lane, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic, Taehyung uses his free hand to grab Jungkook’s gun. He passes it over so he can quickly check to make sure there are enough bullets as well as switching off the safety, his hands just working on autopilot from how many times he’s done this.
He rolls the window back down, inviting the cold air that makes both men shiver.
“Hurry, it’s cold.”
Jugnkook just hums and leans halfway outside the window, tightening his grip on the gun before taking a few shots at the approaching cars. He aims for the tires, not in the mood to put any bullets in anyone's head.
He pulls the trigger, the sound causing a few people walking around the city of London to scream and duck.
Personally, the sound doesn’t make Jungkook jump anymore, not like it used to, but it still makes his heart go wild in his chest. The adrenaline pumping his blood and giving him that excitement and freedom he’s so addicted to.
With his great aim, he gives both cars a flat tire, causing them to slow down and finally create some much-needed distance between them. He takes a few more shots for good measure before sinking back into the car, releasing a sigh, and winding the window back up.
“Fuck, it’s cold,” Jungkook states, placing the gun in his lap and rubbing his hand together for some warmth. The heater is broken in this car so that’s all Jungkook can do to help until they can get back to their motel. He can’t wait to take a nice hot bath, preferably with Taehyung in it.
Speaking of Taehyung, he’s still clearly lost, mumbling to himself as he tries to read the street signs. Jungkook still doesn’t say anything though. He’ll ask him when he’s ready to admit defeat.
And just like he thought, he did after only three minutes of silence.
“Let’s switch,” He sighs. “I don’t know where the fuck I’m going.”
Jungkook smiles proudly, a small giggle escaping past his lips as he leans over to give his boyfriend a quick kiss on the cheek.
They make the switch, Taehyung climbing over into the passenger seat while Jungkook slides into the diver seat, pressing his fingers into the steering wheel, finding comfort in the familiarity of the grooves. They both get comfortable, zooming right past a red light and Jungkook turning the car almost at 90 degrees to avoid the people trying to cross the street.
“So, I won the bet then,” Jungkook says teasingly, more sirens appearing behind them. Great, more cops. Jungkook pushes his foot down on the gas.
“Fine, yes you’re better at driving. We can have pizza tonight.”
“Fuck yes!”
“DROP THE WEAPON AND STOP THE CAR IMMEDIATELY.”
The couple looks to see where the sound is coming from, only to be met with a police helicopter hovering over them, blinding lights shining on them as they continue to screech with threats.
“Damn, they’re serious.”
Jungkook cracks his neck, pushing the gas pedal to go as fast as it can, zooming in and out of traffic to try and lose the new cop cars behind them and now the helicopter.
Taehyung on the other hand takes Jungkook’s gun that must have fallen on the car floor and shoots out the window.
This is going to be a long night for sure, but he guesses that’s what they get from robbing the biggest bank in London and stealing over a million pounds. It was definitely a risk, a risk that took weeks to plan and could all be for nothing if they get caught tonight, but Jungkook and Taehyung are used to the risks.
In fact, they live off it, and they’ve done this enough times to know what to do and not to do.
They know how not to get caught.
“Want some music?” Taehyung asks after he sticks his head back in the car, breathing a little heavy. The tip of his nose is red from the cold and Jungkok’s heart flutters from how cute he looks because of it.
“Yeah sure, the sirens are getting annoying.”
Taehyung goes through a few stations before stopping at a song they sorta recognize. It’s in English and they have no idea what the singer is saying, but they bop their heads to the beat anyway. With the music blasting, sirens flashing behind them, and millions of pounds in cash sitting in two gym bags in the back seat, Jungkook finds himself more grateful than ever for his life.
And that he has Taehyung to spend it with.
“Hey, Tae?”
“Mhm?” He doesn’t spare him a glance, too busy reloading the gun.
“I love you.”
Those three words stop him in his tracks, that square smile he’s loved since they were kids spreading across his face, making him fall in love all over again.
“I love you too Kookie. Now go faster before they catch us, this pretty face does not belong in jail.”
Jungkook laughs and pushes the car faster, the car swerving in and out of traffic as he starts to hum along to the song on the radio, the feeling of being alive and free rushing through him.
A feeling he just can’t get enough of.
--
When the first drop hits Jungkook's skin, he can't help but sigh in content, enjoying how the warm water of the motel shower is already working wonders on his sore muscles. It's been a long week, and an even longer day, and he's just about ready to finally let his body rest once he's cleaned up.
The weeks working up to a job always stresses Jungkook out. It's of course fun and exciting and gives him a burst of adrenaline that he can't get anywhere else, but there's also the stress of the 'what ifs' that the younger hasn't been able to run away from.
What if they get caught? What if something goes wrong? What if one of them gets hurt, or worse, he loses Taehyung. The fear and anxiety he pushes down during the planning process always hits him at full force once the adrenaline is gone and he's alone with just his thoughts.
Like he is right now.
Jungkook doesn't realize tears are racing down his cheeks at first, not until he turns the shower off to soap himself up and doesn't have the water raining down on his skin to disguise it anymore.
He tries to cry silently, not wanting to alert his boyfriend who's only on the other side of the wall counting the stolen money. But Taehyung seems to always have a sense for this stuff. He always seems to know when Jungkook is sad, happy, in need of a cry or just wants someone he can vent to.
So when he hears the bathroom door slowly open, and a soft 'baby?' echos in the room, he doesn't have to say anything for Taehyung to know something is wrong.
Other than the small sniffling from himself, he can hear Taehyung shuffle around on the other side of the shower curtain for a minute or so before the opposite end opens to a naked Taehyung. A sight he's very much used to by now.
The elder steps into the shower, closing the curtain behind him and opening his arms for Jungkook. He doesn’t waste any time before launching himself into his warm arms, closing the small space between them.
"Are you okay?"
Jungkook nods, but even he doesn’t believe himself, so he doesn't protest when Taehyung pulls him in tighter, their bare chest pressed against each other.
Taehyung places a tender kiss on his forehead. "We're almost there, babe. Just one more and then we're done."
Jungkook's heart leaps at that. One more job. One more bank to rob. One more time before they're free from crime and it can just be him and Taehyung. No police, no fears of getting caught, no worrying until he breaks down in the shower.
Just them and their dream.
He looks up, meeting Taehyung's sharp eyes. He's known the elder since they were kids. Since the age of fourteen, Jungkook and Taehyung have been inseparable.
The elder taught him how to play the piano every Saturday due to his mother’s request, and from then on he was there for everything. And despite what they've been there, despite the ups and downs, despite the growing heights and deeper voices, Taehyung's eyes have never changed. They're still the same soft brown eyes that comfort him and make his chest flutter all at once.
"Do we really only have one more?"
"Yeah, I just counted the money. We're almost there, bun."
Jungkook snuggles in closer, needing the warmth.
"Do you think we're bad people?"
It's a question Jungkook can't help but ask whenever they finish a job. This life is fun to him, and even with the stress he feels, he wouldn't trade it for the world. Compared to what his life was before, he's genuinely happy with Taehyung and how a day is never the same, just full of excitement, but the fear that constantly hovers over his head is if makes him a bad person.
He's still not sure of the answer.
"I don't think so." Taehyung starts. "We're happy and we're doing what we want and there's nothing wrong with that. I think most people wanna take risks but can't or are too scared to. We're all the same, we're just not afraid to take the risks."
Jungkook hums, opening his mouth to speak, but Taehyung beats him to it.
"Do you regret it? Do you wish we never did any of this?"
Jungkook thinks about it. He thinks about how they got here and searches for the answer.
He thinks about their childhood, he thinks about how they were both so fucking done with life that it led them to their first-time robbery of a local grocery store in their last year of high school. He thinks about how that one night, turned into two and then three, and then into years of traveling the world and stealing from different banks, the jobs getting bigger and riskier each time.
And how they’ve become so good at it, they haven’t been caught.
He thinks about how they have each other, they have money, they have a wild but fun life of racing away from police and seeing the world. He thinks about the plan they came up with when they were fifteen, sitting in Jungkook's treehouse, wanting so much but feeling like they couldn't get it. He thinks about how close they are now. He thinks and thinks until he knows exactly what his answer is.
"I don't regret a thing.” Jungkook smiles slightly. “I love our life, and I love you."
"I love you too."
"And after our last job, we'll be in Maui, in our dream home. And this will all be worth it."
Taehyung smiles, bringing him closer with one hand and cupping his face with the other. Jungkook leans into his touch a little, enjoying the comfort he very much needed at this moment.
"I don't regret a thing either by the way, because everything that happened led me to you."
"That was so cheesy," Jungkook says with a snort, leaning in for a quick kiss. "But I love it."
Taehyung smiles against his lips and kisses him again, drawing out a quiet moan from the younger.
Their lips move in unison, the kiss getting deeper and desperate as the seconds go by. Soon, Taehyung pushes them forward, pressing Jungkook’s back to the wall of the shower as he grabs his small waist, trying to get as close as he can. His back hitting the wall causes the shower to start up again, the warm water raining down, but neither of them seems to care as they continue to kiss.
Taehyung moves his lips down his neck as Jungkook's hands work their way up his boyfriend's body, enjoying the way his dips and curves feel under his hands.
“I love you,” Jungkook whispers again against his lips, giggling when Taehyung scoops him up by his waist, pinning him against the wall as he slides his legs around his hips. He can hear the sirens from outside their motel room, probably searching for the two males who recently robbed a bank, but neither of them pays it any mind. Taehyung buries his head into his neck, his hands roaming all over his body, their breathing becoming rough and fast once the elder fingers him open and then enters into his boyfriend, every thrust feeling better than the last.
“Fuck, Koo,” He hears his boyfriend moan by his ear, his movements growing faster. “You and me, okay? I-It’ll always be you and me.”
“A-Always…ah shit just like that,” is all Jungkook could say before losing himself in pleasure, tossing his head back and gasping at the ceiling.
They spend the rest of the night together in each other arms, letting the night trickle into the early hours of the morning. They take full advantage of the calm moments before they’re up and move to the next location.
Starting the whole thing over again.
--
Jungkook has been to a lot of places in his life, more than he thought he would see if he’s being honest.
He’s been to France, India, South Africa, and the list can go on and on and on. He’s also a wanted criminal in all those places, but that’s beside the point. The point is, he’s seen so many cities, he’s met so many people, he’s robbed so many banks, and yet he doesn’t think he’ll ever get over the excitement of entering into a new country.
He likes that once he steps off that plane he can lose himself in the unfamiliar, that he’s just a stranger in a sea of people. He’s just a nobody, someone people walk right past and doesn’t have the slightest clue or care about who he is.
He’s not a criminal, he’s not the son of businessman Jeon Donghyun, he’s just him – just one of the many other people traveling.
And it’s no different when he arrives in Tokyo, Japan.
It’s been two weeks since their last job in London, since they were able to cash in 1.5 million pounds to add to their already large amount of money they’ve been saving. And now with London behind them, they’ve moved on to their final job.
It’s a bittersweet feeling that rises inside him when he thinks about it. Stealing is something Jungkook knows is wrong, but can't help but enjoy.
It’s the rush, the excitement, the fear of getting caught, it all makes Jungkook feel alive somehow. He’s never been able to explain it to anyone and no one has really tried to understand it.
Except for Taehyung.
He steals a glance at his boyfriend who’s currently holding his hand as they wait for their luggage to come around the conveyor belt, their fake passports with fake names tucked in their carry-on. It’s early in the morning, around 6:00 AM, the early sun that’s shining through the big glass windows of the building dances around the elder’s golden skin, somehow making him more beautiful than he already is.
Jungkook smiles, looking away, tightening his grip on Taehyung’s hand.
The people around him move with ease, all either freshly roused from their slumber or have been up all night on a plane just as the couple has. Jungkook finds this is always the best way to travel, when the sun is barely in the sky and everyone is moving slowly, it’s very different from the hectic way any airport gets midday. It makes traveling a little more relaxing in his opinion.
They only wait for their bags for a few more minutes before they’re heading out of the airport, the sound of their suitcases wheeling behind them echoes in the building as they walk hand in hand towards the door.
The weather is nice once they step outside, much warmer than London, and Jungkook takes a nice deep breath of the air before calling for a taxi in Japanese.
Growing up, he had to learn many languages from the young age of six, and even though at the time he hated it, he guesses it comes in handy.
Not in the way his father would have wanted he’s sure.
“So, what's the plan?” Jungkook asks once they jump into a taxi, switching back to Korean. Taehyung usually takes care of the research part of their jobs since Jungkook is not a big fan of the tedious work that entails. Jungkook is more into the action anyway, and thank god the elder is okay with that.
"Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group is the biggest bank in Japan, which Kim Han-Gyeol from Korea became the new owner of. He moved his whole family to Japan, including his son Namjoon."
"I'm guessing he's our way in?"
"Yup. He currently lives in the city with his boyfriend Jimin, who he met at SNU back in Korea before moving here. They have a huge house that he rents rooms out for pocket change. He already rents out to three people and last week he put out an ad looking for a fourth. And we're the fourth."
Jungkook hums, leaning against his boyfriend's shoulder, his eyes catching the city out the window of the taxi.
He watches the sky that was once a pretty orange turn into an angry grey before a sudden rain shower covers Tokyo, inviting a street of colorful umbrellas to blossom as it gets harder and harder. It must rain a lot here with the way most people didn't even bat an eye, just continuing their day with the umbrellas protecting them.
Japan is beautiful, he decides right there and then, not needing to spend a day as a tourist to know that. He's not sure how to put it into words, how watching the different people easily move around the city, how the scrapes along the roads from the cars and the lights from the buildings make Jungkook fall more and more in love.
It's not a city that can be simplified, and it's something that Jungkook finds himself falling in love with in an instant.
He swallows the feeling down fast, knowing it’s dangerous in his field of work. It only makes him attached, makes him want to stay, and he can't.
They can't.
"What's our story?" Jungkook asks, getting himself to focus back on what they're here for.
"Your name is Jaehyun and I'm Taehwan. We're both from Korea, have been dating for five years, and you recently moved to Japan for a job, and since I work remotely I moved with you because we didn't want to be apart from each other."
Jungkook snorts. "How romantic."
"I thought I would make it easy for us since it's our last job." The elder chuckles. "Remember in our early days? You said we were brothers once."
"I panicked okay? When are you gonna let that go?"
"Never bun, because explaining why I was kissing my brother was very awkward for me and I had to kill that poor guy that caught us."
"Well," Jungkook shrugs, looking back out the window. "Maybe he should've knocked first."
Taehyung laughs, leaning down to place a gentle kiss on his forehead before going back to reciting the thought-out plan that's been in place since the start of their journey.
Jungkook chuckles to himself as he listens, tracing his boyfriend’s tattoos with his finger. If anyone else were to hear their conversation right now, they would have definitely thought they were crazy for talking about killing a man so casually. But Jungkook has moved past the worrying and the wondering of what others thought. The couple have been doing this for a long time, and after a while, the "normal" human emotions he should be feeling when it comes to the long list of bad things they've done, don't bother his conscience anymore. It's come to the point when talking about killing someone in cold blood to not leave any witnesses is the same as talking about what they want to have for lunch.
Maybe Jungkook should be concerned, for both himself and Taehyung. Maybe Jungkook needs help, maybe he needs to get a professional to tell him how he went from a sweet son whose only concern was getting into college and not letting his father find out he watches gay porn late at night, to robbing banks around the world and putting bullets in anyone's head who stands in their way.
Jungkook is probably really messed up in the head. But he doesn't give a fuck.
Hasn't for a long time.
It's more fun that way.
Taehyung is able to get through the whole plan before the taxi drops them off at their new home for the next few weeks. They're last home before they can find their forever home.
Jungkook thanks the taxi driver, paying him before helping to take their bags out of the trunk. The house just outside the city is huge, bigger than what Jungkook thought, and he’s in awe as they walk to the front door.
"I love you baby," Taehyung says, leaning forward to give the younger a quick kiss on the lips which Jungkook returns happily. "You and me okay?"
"Always."
Jungkook holds his index finger up in the air with his palm back, and draws a couple of large circles in the air, the sign for always, something they always do before the start of a job.
He's not sure how it started, he thinks they saw it in a movie once, but now they can't start a job without doing it. It's a promise to each other, a promise of their love, that they stick together no matter what happens. A promise that hasn't been broken in eight years.
They flash a smile at each other before Taehyung knocks on the door. It only takes a few seconds before it swings open and a tall man with glasses sitting on his nose stands before them.
He smiles, dimples out.
"Jaehyun and Taehwan?"
"That's us!"
"Oh great, welcome! I’m Namjoon, it’s nice to finally meet you two.”
“Same to you.”
He moves to the side. “Come on in."
Jungkook and Taehyung grab their bags, stepping into the house with bright smiles and friendly eyes.
Stepping into the last job of their lives.
--
Jungkook sometimes doesn't know what's more fun, doing the job itself or walking around a new city with not even a care in the world, no one knowing that he and his boyfriend will be robbing the biggest bank in the city in only a few days.
It makes him feel giddy, to walk the streets of Tokyo and have people walk right pass him as if he hasn't killed before. It's fun and exciting and practically makes him want to skip down the street as he heads to MUFG Bank with the lunch he cooked still warm in his hand.
It's been a few days since they arrived in Japan, and Jungkook's prediction that he would completely fall in love with the city was correct.
He loved everything about the lively city, from the food to the people, and as per usual, he knows it's gonna be hard to leave when it's time. But to his surprise, the city isn't the only thing that's grown on him, but the five other people he's currently living with.
Namjoon is who he met first. The big but clumsy guy that mostly reads and keeps to himself. It didn't take long for him to realize just how intelligent the twenty-seven-year-old was, not just book smart but wisdom smart. He's also kind, very much into nature, and rides a bicycle everywhere.
If comfort was a person, it would no doubt be in the form of Kim Namjoon.
Whatever comes out of his mouth is always something that's either really insightful and makes him rethink his entire life, or commenting on how cute his boyfriend's ass looks when he wears certain jeans. He's a gentle soul, a soul he's enjoyed getting to know.
Jimin was next, the small boy who curled next to Namjoon as the elder introduced him as his boyfriend of three years. He's a hard worker with a kind heart who thinks of others before he thinks of himself. He got along with Taehyung pretty fast, the two staying up until three in the morning laughing and playing video games. It's nice to see his boyfriend find someone who almost seemed meant to be friends.
They then soon met Seokjin, the oldest of the group. The man with broad shoulders and a wide smile was a character that Jungkook probably wouldn't be about to forget even if he wanted to. Laughter follows him around thanks to his witty remarks and corny dad jokes that have no business being that funny. He's very caring, always knocking on their door to ask if they're settling in okay or want to watch a movie with the group, wanting to include them in this little family of theirs.
Yoongi was practically dragged out of his room by Namjoon, telling him to come and meet the couple moving in. For Jungkook, the first impression of Yoongi wasn't the best. He barely talked, and when he did it was mostly sarcastic. To be honest, Jungkook was positive that he didn't like them that much, but after a few days of living in the house, it was easy to see that Yoongi was more than a biting tongue and cold stares. He was a fountain of creativity, moving to Japan as an independent music producer that everyone goes to for a hit song. He's also a huge teddy bear deep down, it just takes some warming up before anyone can see that side of him.
Not to mention, he has a huge thing for Seokjin if the stares and the blushed cheeks that appear whenever he enters into a room have anything to say about it, but he decides to keep that for himself. For now.
The couple met Hoseok last, who rushed into the door around dinner time on the day they moved in with quick apologies and heart-shaped smiles. He owns his own line of dance studios and recently opened one in Japan, which keeps him busy even past working hours. He's not in the house a lot, but when he is, Jungkook has been able to get to know the bubbling personality Hoseok has.
Whenever the dancer is around, the younger swears it brightens the room, fully committed to making everyone smile at least once a day. Which isn’t hard with how affectionate and loving he is.
These five people Jungkook has been living with and getting to know have made the thought of leaving hard, but he knows there's no point in thinking about ever staying.
Not when a famous bank is going to be robbed soon by yours truly.
“Good afternoon!” Jungkook greets as he walks up to the receptionist, a bright and friendly smile wide across his face. The lady smiles back, it doesn't look real though. Looks like one of those smiles she forces herself to do when a new customer walks in.
"Hello, welcome to MUFG Bank. How can I help you today?"
"I'm here to drop something off for Kim Namjoon. My name is Jaehyun.”
"One moment please."
Jungkook nods, waiting for the lady to let Namjoon know he's in the lobby.
The elder doesn't know he was coming to him today or that he brought him a homemade lunch, which is the way he wanted it. A surprise visit will ensure that he doesn't turn him down.
Both Jungkook and Taehyung have their tasks for today to make sure their plan goes smoothly — Taehyung is in charge of getting supplies, and Jungkook is in charge of scooping out the bank. And knowing Namjoon makes it much easier than their last few jobs.
"He'll be down in a few minutes."
"Thank you."
Jungkook only has to wait for a minute or so before he sees Namjoon stumble towards him, his dimples out on full display as he greets and thanks him for the lunch. He looks tired despite it only being half the day, and he almost tells himself to not bother the man now but he needs to get this done sooner rather than later.
So he asks him to give him a tour.
"Oh," Namjoon looks around sheepishly. "Uh, yeah sure. But don't tell anyone I did this though.”
"I won't," Jungkook says with a laugh, following the tall man past the doors where only employees are allowed.
He listens as Namjoon tells him about his father and how he isn't really interested in working at the bank, but he made a deal that he could continue writing songs if he works part-time at MUFG. So now he's stuck behind a desk, working a job he hates, a life Jungkook would have lived if he never met Taehyung.
He banishes all and any thoughts of his life before and focuses on the tasks at hand. He shows him around, pretending to be interested when really he's counting all the cameras he sees. It takes a few minutes of convincing, but soon Namjoon shows him to the vault.
"Wow, it's huge." The brunette comments as he eyes up the big metal vault. It's five times his height, and Jungkook has to bite back a smile from thinking about how much money that's sitting in there, waiting to be stolen.
"It's one of the biggest in the world."
Jungkook acts impressed and not like he's known that since he stepped off the plane.
"Really?"
"Yup! it's a 24-blot Diebold vault. There are two linked boxes for the combination mechanisms and a four-point system for opening the door. So very secure. No one is getting in there." Jungkook holds back a laugh. "And we got our guy Sungho here holding down the fort."
Jungkook turns to see a built man with dark hair on the left of the vault, laughing slightly at Namjoon's comment before looking over at Jungkook. He's clearly a guard for the bank, the uniform giving him away, and for a brief second Jungkook thinks he might be a problem for what they have planned. That is until he saw the man look him up and down, a look in his eye that has Jungkook smirking and suddenly not seeing him as a threat anymore.
"This is Jaehyun," Namjoon says, introducing him.
Jungkook takes the opportunity to confirm his suspicion and reaches out his hand for a handshake, licking his lips and checking him out just like he did not too long ago. He doesn't miss the way the guard's eyes follow the movement.
He smirks. This job just might be easier than he thought.
"Nice to meet you."
"Likewise."
When Jungkook gets home that afternoon, Jungkook is glad to see that no one other than Taehyung is home. He opens their new bedroom door to see him at the desk, typing furiously on the keyboard. His hair is a mess and he's wearing the same grey sweats pants and white Celine top he saw him wear when he left, which means he hasn't moved for hours.
Jungkook sighs.
He knows how Taehyung can get on jobs sometimes, how he puts so much effort and attention into it that he forgets the basic necessities of eating and showering, and sleeping. It's a habit that's gotten better since they started, but still a work in progress.
The younger closes the door behind him, kicking off his shoes and dropping his bag at the entryway before heading towards Taehyung who's back is still turned to him. He slides into his boyfriend's lap, straddling him so he can face him. With his legs on either side of the elder, he throws his tattooed arms over his shoulders, tucking his face in his neck.
Taehyung doesn't let him sitting on his lap stop him from working and continues typing on the keyboard while Jungkook places soft kisses on his neck.
"Hey, beautiful."
Jungkook smiles. "Hi."
"How did it go?"
"Went well," He sits up, blocking his view from the computer screen, and finally stopping the elder from working. He locks eyes with him. "Namjoon loved my cooking."
"Of course he did. You’re amazing at it.”
Taehyung leaned forward for what was supposed to be a quick peck on the lips, but soon turned heated and hungry, drawing out a moan from the younger.
Taehyung kisses are always so sweet and filled with so much emotion, Jungkook can't help but melt into it and knot his needy fingers into his hair just to pull him in closer. He's just so addicting, not just his pretty pink lips, but everything about Taehyung is addicting. His voice, his smile, his laugh, his eyes that crinkle around the corners when he smiles too hard, the way he touches him, fucks him, makes him feel like the most beautiful person in the world. He could go on and on but he's pretty sure he would be listing it off for days.
They discount their lips, but Taehyung doesn't stop kissing him. He moves his lips down his jaw and to his neck, causing Jungkook to lift his head up to expose his throat, giving Taehyung as much space as he needs to go at it.
"We can get in through the back door, I watched Namjoon put in the code. It's 1037." A low hum escapes Jungkook's throat as Taehyung sucks a new hickey on his neck, no doubt right next to the one from the day before when they fucked on the kitchen table at two in the morning.
"What else?"
"There are four cameras in each room, six cameras in the hallway leading to the vault. The code to get in the same room as the vault is 7261."
"Any guards?" Taehyung asks against his neck, his hands warm as they sneak under his shirt. He gasps at the ceiling, rolling his hips against his hardened cock as his boyfriend plays with his nipples.
"Just one in front of the vault, I'm guessing they rely on the cameras and the many alarms surrounding the place. But once we take them offline, I think we'll be okay. And I'll handle the guard."
"How?"
Taehyung pulls away from his neck and Jungkook smirks as they look into each other's eyes.
"The guard's name is Sungho, and he wants to fuck me."
Taehyung cracks a smile, raising a brow. "Does he now?"
"Oh yeah," Jungkook leans in, brushing their lips together but doesn't kiss him completely. "Wants to fuck me so hard, I could see it in his eyes."
"Too bad I'm the only one who can fuck you the way you like huh?"
Jungkook smirks. "Yeah, too bad."
His eyes flutter shut just before he presses forward, connecting their lips in a hot open-mouthed, yet gentle kiss.
His vanilla lip balm makes Jungkook’s lips taste like heaven, and Taehyung couldn’t help but run his tongue along Jungkook’s lips, licking away at the sweet taste.
Jungkook doesn't move to deepen the kiss, he lets Taehyung take full control instead, which he does so in such a fast manner Jungkook can't help but let go and let Taehyung do what he wants with him.
The younger bucks his hips against Taehyung, encouraging the elder to take as much as he wants. Eventually, he breaks the kiss, pulling away for some much-needed air, and stands up from the desk chair. Jungkook giggles and holds onto his boyfriend for dear life, letting Taehyung take him to the bed where he throws him playfully on top of the sheets.
Jungkook came three times that night, a result of Taehyung's relentless sex drive and god-like tongue. He came to Taehyung's filthy words, as they talked about the robbery that's only a few days away. He doesn't know what it is about stealing money, but it always makes Jungkook's level of horniness go through the roof, and it's no different with his boyfriend.
"Bun?"
Jungkook looks over at Taehyung, breathing hard as sweat runs down his skin. "Yeah?"
Taehyung smiles, holding his index finger up in the air, palm back, and draws a couple of large circles, and Jungkook doesn't hesitate to do the sign back, leaning to kiss him softly before drifting off to sleep.
Always.
--
It's D-Day.
And Jungkook is very excited.
The adrenaline has already started pumping in his veins as he walks the empty and dark halls of MUFG bank with his boyfriend following close behind.
It's one in the morning on a Tuesday, the least likely day and time people expect two criminals to rob the biggest bank in Japan.
The many cameras that hang in the corners, trying to disguise themselves but not doing a good job to a skilled eye like Jungkook's, have been successfully hacked thanks to Taehyung. Now when the police do find out the bank has been robbed long after they're gone, all they will be able to see is the same recorded footage that shows nothing out of the ordinary.
They both stand in awe as they stare at the huge vault after putting the memorized code in, letting the door open with a swish of air, the laser grid they found turns on every night now disabled.
They step over Sungho's dead body to get closer, Taehyung pocketing his gun. Poor thing was too busy trying to eye fuck him to notice the elder behind him. The priceless look on his face when he does notice was one of his favorites out of the many looks of fear he's seen before they die.
"Ah fuck."
Jungkook turns. "What?"
"I got blood on my shoes." He pouts. "They're new."
"I’ll help get it out when we're done."
Taehyung hums, pulling out the hacking device he's been working on since they arrived in Japan and slaps it onto the vault, causing a loud bang to echo throughout the room.
Jungkook whistles a tune as he watches Taehyung work, adjusting the black beanie on his head. It's the same tune that he learned from Taehyung back when they first met, and Taehyung gives him a quick smile of recognition.
"Remember that day?"
"Of course I do, you were so shy back then. You would barely look me in the eye."
"You were hot as fuck, what did you expect me to do?"
Taehyung chuckles as he works his magic, and it only takes a few seconds for the device to let out a series of beeps before the display panel turns green.
The elder pulls off the device and steps back, smiling when he hears the many locks that protect the hundred of millions of dollars pilled inside the vault, open with a loud swish sound. It's a sound that makes Jungkook giggle, grabbing Taehyung's hand and squeezing it gently in excitement. Once it's fully open and they could walk in, Jungkook lets out a low "holy fuck" as his eyes take in the sight in front of him.
Stacked along the four walls, along with the row in the middle of the room, there are piles of cash, perfectly crisp, and wrapped together with clear plastic on the sides.
The couple looks at the money longingly. They see their future in those Japanese yen staring back at them. He sees their dream house in Maui, the house they designed in colored pencils in the treehouse Jungkook spent his time in more than his own bedroom. They see them free to live their lives together for the rest of their lives, free of any burdens. Just their love.
God, he loves his job.
"You take left, I'll take right."
They share a quick kiss before going their separate ways, big black bags tight in their grips as they each grab a handful of money. Jungkook continues whistling as they work, mind full of how after tonight the first day of the rest of their lives begins and he's too excited to even keep the smile from tugging at his lips.
"We should get sushi after this," Jungkook suggests once he gets to the end of the song. “What do you think?”
He waits for Taehyung to answer, but he doesn't get one. He's only greeted by a loud silence that sends a cold shiver down his spine. He looks behind him to see why his boyfriend is suddenly so quiet, to be met with a sight that he never wanted to see.
Ever.
"Drop the bag."
It's another guard, one that belongs to the bank since he's wearing the same uniform Sungho was wearing when Taehyung put a bullet through the back of his head. A guard they must have missed.
The guard is shaking, the gun held unconfidently in his hand. It'll be easier to get the gun out of this man's hands, Jungkook is bigger than he is and the times he spends working out every morning will prove he's stronger too, but he has the gun pressed hard against Taehyung's back. One wrong move and Jungkook could lose his whole world. So he moves hesitantly, trying to think of a plan to separate his boyfriend from the deadly weapon.
"The cops are on their way. Put the money down."
Shit.
By the time the cops have been called the two of them usually have the money already and is far away from the crime scene.
This is gonna be a problem.
"I suggest you put that gun down before you hurt yourself." He says, trying his best not to show just how scared he is through his voice, but Taehyung knows him well. Too well.
He looks over at him and Taehyung mouths "it's okay" to try and get him to calm down. It doesn't work because the guard presses the gun even harder against his boyfriend, this time pointing it at his head.
"Put the fucking money down or I swear to god I will blow his brains out."
Damn, he's got balls.
Jungkook can hear the sound of sirens in the distance, coming closer and closer.
Fuck. Think, think, think.
"Okay," Jungkook slowly puts the bag full of money down on the ground. He doesn't take his eyes off the gun. "I'm putting it down."
"Jungkook-" Taehyung tries to say, but he doesn't let him finish.
"It's okay."
The cops are here. He can hear them loud and clear as if they're just outside the door, and Jungkook's mind scrambles for an idea to fix this but nothing comes to mind. Not one that seems smart. But Jungkook has to protect Taehyung, and that's all he can think about when he surges forward for the gun the second the bag is on the floor.
It's a struggle for a second, both men fighting for dominance over the weapon, neither one giving up without a fight.
Jungkook can hear Taehyung calling out to him, fear laced in his voice, but not completely. Not over the loud sound of the gun suddenly going off.
The sound is loud, the air shattering around him as the bullet tore through space and silence fell upon the room in its wake. The silence is so deafening, everything just stops.
And then the pain comes ripping through him.
"NO, JUNGKOOK!"
The connection of the metal bullet and his skin was quick and so sudden, it took a full minute for him to realize why Taehyung was running towards him with wide teary eyes until the pain came and his knees went weak.
Taehyung catches him just in time before he could crash to the ground. He doesn't think he's felt so much pain in his life as he does right now. He kinda feels bad for the multiple people he’s shot because fuck the pain is a bitch.
His wound leaks blood, like the way his tears are leaking from his eyes, and he feels Taehyung press pressure onto his wound to stop it but the blood is coming out way too fast for him to catch up.
With each blink, it gets harder and harder to stay awake and focus on Taehyung hovering over him, a panicked look on his face as he talks. His ears are having a hard time understating, only getting little bits as his hearing keeps going in and out, but what he does hear is the pleads to be okay and to stay awake. He can hear more police bursting through the door as well, guns out and loud voices booming, but the younger tries his best to stay focused on his boyfriend. Jungkook opens his mouth to speak but nothing comes out, feeling paralyzed.
"D-Don't leave me." He hears Taehyung say through broken sobs. "I love you so much please, stay alive."
The younger tries to smile, but the pain is too unbearable to fully go through with it. He uses all his energy to grab Taehyung's hand instead.
"Y-You and m-me." He promises, and the last thing he sees is Taehyung being pulled away from the police, knocked to the ground, and put in handcuffs as he shouts and screams for him. He's too far away though, he can't reach him, he can't, he can't, he can't.
Then the darkness sneaks upon him, consuming the younger completely.
--
Taehyung has thought about living in a jail cell for a long time, he kinda had to with the life he chose.
He's thought about what it would be like, if he could even see himself surviving in jail, and especially how he would escape, but it's been three months since he was put in Seoul’s Correctional Prison and he hasn't even thought of figuring out a plan to get out of here.
All he can think about is Jungkook.
His sweet, smart, pretty baby, shot and bleeding out on the ground. It's a sight that's engraved in his memory at this point. He sees it whenever he closes his eyes. It plays on the back of his eyelids like a movie that he's forced to watch when he's trying to sleep. He even sees it when he's awake, the image of him gasping for air and surrounded by blood just pops in his brain without warning and Taehyung has no idea how to make them stop.
Without Jungkook, he's not sure how to go on. He's not sure why he should even try to go on when he doesn't have his soulmate by his side. What's truly the point?
All of this was for them. All the traveling, and the stealing, and the killing, it was all worth it because at the end of the day it was so they can finally live their dream. Live their future. Together.
But now with Jungkook gone, he's not sure what his future even looks like. It just looks dark and lonely and sad, and he's not in a rush to go to that. So he's been sitting in this jail cell, losing himself in grief and sadness, wanting nothing more than to go back in time and take the younger's place.
He should have been on the floor, bleeding to death, not Jungkook. Not his bun.
Days in a jail cell go by slower than Taehyung thought. It also could be because all he does is stare at the walls and cry, but the hours trickle by slow and steady, each day harder than last, and on day 94 of being locked up for first-degree murder and robbery, it wasn’t any different.
In fact, it felt harder to get through the day.
He woke up, ate breakfast, sat in bed, ate again, did the chores he was assigned to do, and went to bed before lights out, the hours running past him almost in slow motion. He didn't think much of the day, just identical to the ones before it, until he heard loud steps way past lights out.
Usually, guards don't walk around so late, so the sound had Taehyung sitting up in bed, brows furrowed as he looked around for who's causing it.
Then he heard it.
He heard the tune that he taught Jungkook how to play on the piano back when they were kids, the beautiful song that stayed stuck in his head for days, just like Jungkook did. It's a tune he's used to hearing by now from the many times Jungkook likes to whistle it as he works.
But just as he thought he was going insane and is starting to hear things that are not there, he heard it grow louder and louder until the sound steps out of the darkness and into the light for his eyes to take in.
At first, he couldn't believe who was standing before him, his brain needing a minute to fully function again, and once it did, a rush of relief and happiness surges through him to see the one person he thought he would never see again.
"Jungkook?"
"Hi, Tae."
He stands up, walking up to the bars of the jail cell to get a better look, making sure his eyes aren't playing tricks on him.
But when he reaches his hand out to touch Jungkook's arm, the tattoos they got together covering so he can barely see the skin underneath, he knows it's real.
That his Jungkook is alive.
"H-How are you- I mean, I saw you die."
Jungkook snorts. "How long have you known me? You think a silly bullet wound would kill me?"
"Uh, yes."
"Well you're wrong, mama didn't raise no bitch."
Taehyng laughs, trying to hold back tears, but Jungkook's next words break the hold he had.
"Plus," he continues, stepping closer to the cell. "I made a promise."
Jungkook puts up his index finger, making a big circle movement that has Taehyung chuckling and laughing, his heart feeling as if he's about to explode with the love he has for the twenty-four-year-old.
"You and me."
Taehyung does the sign back, cheeks wet and red. "Always."
"I love you."
Taehyung is full-on crying now, not believing he's hearing those words again when he thought he never would.
"I love you too Jungkook. So much.
Jungkook swings some keys around, that bunny-like smile taking over his face. The keys are covered in blood, blood that mostly likely belongs to whoever Jungkook stole them from.
Taehyung grins.
"Let's get you out of here."

"Breaking news! Kim Taehyung, one of the men who has been linked to the many robberies and deaths happening around the world escaped prison last night. Kim Taehyung, along with deceased partner Jeon Jungkook, attempted to rob MUFG bank three months ago but was caught thanks to a guard who worked for the bank. He was taken in custody, awaiting trial, but was found missing this morning. At this time, the police do not have any leads of his whereabouts, and are asking the public to contact authorities immediately if you-"
Namjoon switches off the TV abruptly, letting the sudden silence hover over the room.
He's sitting on the couch with his boyfriend and his three other roommates, Hoseok still caught up at work. They've been glued to the TV since they turned it on, still in disbelief that Jaehyun and Taehwan. No. Jungkook and Taehyung are wanted criminals.
Namjoon still can't connect the kind roommates they had three months ago to the terrible people the news outlets claim they are.
"I can't believe they were living with us for weeks," Seokjin says, breaking the stiff silence.
"They seemed so nice." Jimin chimed in, lips turned downward.
Jimin took it the hardest, especially when he became so close to Taehyung during those few weeks they lived here. He thought for sure the police were lying when they came to investigate their home. He was sure they were framing the sweet couple they thought they knew.
The piles and piles of evidence the police showed them changed his mind pretty quickly.
Yoongi sighs, getting up from the couch and heading towards the kitchen.
"I need a drink," he mutters, ignoring the fact that it's only eleven o'clock in the morning.
"Do you think he'll come back here?"
Namjoon looks over at Seokjin, confused wrinkles appearing across his forehead.
"Why would he? This is the first place the police would look."
The elder shrugs. "We're loose ends, aren't we? What if he’s planning to kill us?"
Namjoon would be lying if he said that thought didn't cross his mind at least once since the news broke that Taehyung has somehow escaped prison, but something tells him that won't happen.
Maybe it's wishful thinking, maybe it's him holding on to the Jaehyun and Taehwan he felt close with, maybe it's his brain not accepting the fact that he was living with murderers. He's not sure.
He at least hopes he doesn't come back here.
"Guys!" It's Hoseok's voice that interrupts his thoughts, loud as usual as he burst through the front door. "You're gonna wanna see this."
They all look at each other in confusion before walking to the kitchen to join Hoseok and Yoongi, who's already opening a second beer and is peeking over the dancer's shoulders. Hoseok is drenched in sweat as he drops his bags on the ground, breathing heavily as if he ran all the way home.
"What is it?"
"Here."
Hoseok gives him what he's looking at, and once it's in Namjoon's hand, his mind scrambles to think why Hoseok is handing him a postcard.
It's from Maui, the big red letters in front of a beautiful photo of the beach lets him know.
He looks up at Hoseok, about to ask what this is about, but he just encourages him to flip it over. Once he does, his eyes quickly scan the messy handwriting scribbled on the back and the money paper clipped to the card.
A few emotions settle in the pit of his stomach as he reads, but the one that surprises him the most is relief. Relief of what? He's not entirely sure.
"What is it?" Jimin asks, voice soft. "What does it say?"
"It's from our old roommates."
Seokjin gasps. "Oh god, they are coming for us aren't they?"
"No, actually. I don't think so."
A conversation suddenly pops into his brain, a conversation he remembers having with Jungkook a few days after they first moved in. He remembers the conversation somehow shifting to the topic of the future and where they see their relationship in a few years.
Namjoon answered first, his answer simple — marrying Jimin, maybe having a family of their own.
Jungkook answered afterward;
“Maui."
Namjoon puts his glass of wine down on the coffee table. "Maui?"
"Yeah, Taehwan and I have always wanted to go there. We wanna build our dream home and just be together with the beach as our backyard."
"Sounds beautiful."
Jungkook smiles. "It will be."
Namjoon should be calling the police, telling them they know where Taehyung is. But instead, he finds himself smiling.
He guesses they got to live their dream after all.
Hi Namjoon!
Sorry we ended our lease early, but here's the money we owe you. Hope you can forgive us for disappearing suddenly.
Even though we've only known you and the rest of the guys for a few weeks, I want to thank you for the memories and your kindness.
Don't be a stranger ;)
With Love,
Jaehyun & Taehwan
