Chapter Text

Another World Away

( / thinking/)

/Quirks, Superhuman abilities, Wonder what that would be like? To be someone special and unique like that. I wish something like the world of My Hero Academia actually existed. Wouldn't it be cool to live in a place like that? So colorful and full of life./ Izuku thought looking around him at the small classroom of his boarding school before returning his gaze outside the window.

It was sad but most of his memories were of this school. the campus was large and it did have the best of most things including academics, and extracurriculars. He just hated it here always had. When his mom died his father wasted no time getting remarried and sent Izuku away to school out of sight, out of his hair, so that the man could focus on his new family. Izuku was a bit bitter about it still.

It was here that, Izuku was at first angry with his father had wasted a year as a 7-year-old getting into as much trouble as possible refusing to do assignments was disruptive and even rude to the point of cursing out other students and teachers. His father had cut him out of his life and could care less about what Izuku was doing threatening that the moment the boy became of age he would disown him If Izuku did not stop causing trouble.

Izuku was at a loss for what to do until one of his teachers asked him a question one day. Mrs. Nana Shimura was kind always with a smile and always reading from strange journals. The question was simple enough so much so it confused Izuku and left him puzzled unable to answer her. She asked for him to come to her and tell her what his answer was when he finally had one.

/"Midoriya Kun if you could live in any world and do anything at all no matter how impossible what would it be?"/ Mrs. Shimura asked a smile on her face as she held a leather bond journal to her chest cradled protectively.

Izuku had no answer for her. No one had ever asked him that before like it was a real possibility. If he could live in any world of his choosing which one would it be and why? What would he do there? The question left the young boy not yet 9 years old stumped. All this time he had been living by the rules of adults, telling him what he could and could not do, Dictating what he should and shouldn't think or feel. So what world would he rather be in?

It took the boy a week before he shyly went to his teacher with an answer. He remembers the sad look on her face when he gave an honest near-silent answer. He didn't know, how could he, all he had were people telling him what to do and when to do it, and for who he should be. He remembers what happened next like it happened yesterday Mrs. Shimura knelt on the ground and hugged him.

Izuku had sat there frozen in place for only a moment and then he sobbed. The last person who had hugged him had been his mother on her death bed. She had gotten a rare type of cancer and wasted away slowly, the day she died she held him in her thin spindly arms and told him she was proud of him that she would love him always. After the funeral, he was shipped to this boarding school and had not been home since. The only times he has seen his father was when he was called to the school to a parent-teacher conference with the principal after Izuku got into too much trouble.

When his teacher allowed him to pull away from her embrace, she handed him a book. Izuku curiously looked from the book back to his teacher confused. The book was handwritten and the art was amazing it was like the pictures would come to life leaping off the page at any moment if he looked at them long enough.

"Since you don't know what world you would like to live in why not see if this one appeals to you?" Mrs. Shimura asked smiling.

Confused Izuku took the book with him. The title was confusing "fairytail" But even 8-year-old Izuku knew the word was spelled wrong it should have read Fairy tales, not Fairytail. But Izuku read it cover to cover in only a few days entranced by the world of Earthland and the wizard guilds where the main characters Lucy and Natsu formed a team with their friends and went on adventures. some of those adventures ended in sorrow others laughter and still more left questions unanswered, but always the guild was a family.

Izuku remembers rushing to his teacher with sparkles in his eyes. She grinned at him when he showed her his favorite scenes and gushed about how cool Natsu was and powerful. Then she asked the question again would he like to live in a world like that. After all the guilds took in children without parents he could be a wizard there and go on adventures just like Natsu... Izuku thought about it for a moment then shook his head no.

"I am still not sure, I would want to be stronger before going otherwise how would I make friends with anyone I ... am a bit wimpy, and what if there are better worlds that I don't know about yet?" Izuku asked. his teacher laughed it sounded joyous she then handed him another book this one looked darker than the first.

Izuku soon found out he was right it was darker than the other book. This one was called " Bleach" and it was about a boy named Ichigo and the adventures he went on to save his friends and family. He became powerful growing up in a world where death gods were real and there were three worlds, the world of the living, the spirit society, and the world of the hollows monsters that devoured other souls. It was scary and incredible and he couldn't help but cheer on the orange-haired boy through all his trials.

When he finished again his teacher was happy to ask him questions and hear all about what he thought of the world inside of the book. And again he didn't think that world would be for him either. So he started to take interest in clubs. He wanted to one day tell his teacher a world he would like to live in and to look the part or have the right experience to look like he would belong there.

Something in his teacher's voice made him believe she was being honest and believed he could get to another world to live in if he really wanted to. She always provided him new books to read and always asked the same question when he finished, so many new worlds became available inside these handwritten and hand-drawn books. "No game No life" Became a favorite in the entire world based on games it was so cool everything was decided by the winner of the games. Government, laws, and disputes are all settled by playing a game. After reading that one Izuku signed himself up for chess club, and other gaming clubs even taught himself card games like poker and blackjack.

The world of "Another" was scary, to think that ghosts and curses were real was something that was interesting and made him feel tingles of awareness that he was not sure he wanted to know about he definitely did not want to live there. The world of "Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon?" Sounded so cool it would be interesting to be a part of a living god's familia and go into the dungeon to fight monsters but still not the world he wanted to live in. But he chose to learn gymnastics and parkour after reading them.

The years passed faster this way. No longer was Izuku the trouble maker who had daddy issues. He was now a straight-A student, Extremely athletic, and outgoing with daddy issues he would joke about now and always he read more and more books falling more fascinated with each new world he discovered between the covers of the special books Mrs. Shimura let him read. He had tried almost all the offered clubs at one point or another dropping the ones he didn't like and picking up others. It no longer bothered him that he never went home during any school breaks. He stayed the entire summer, winter, and even spring holidays at school year-round. Mrs. Shimure continued to ask her question and let him read her books showing him an untold number of worlds all at his fingertips waiting for him to devour.

He had just turned 16 and he still enjoyed the books he borrowed from Mrs. Shimura. She still asked her question with a kind smile even now he could still hear the same belief in her voice that it was possible to go to another world. He believed now that every book was a world just for him and he got to go there for the time he was reading it was perfect. Now if only he didn't have to return to reality when he was finished reading would be better.

He took up skateboarding after reading the book Sk8 infinity, learned the basics of ice skating after reading Yuri on Ice. Blushing through each interaction of the main characters. Soul Eater had been another fun one he read and really enjoyed. many of his hobbies were inspired by the books he read. The ones that stuck were from his favorite books like his martial arts training he started after reading Kenichi. So many wonderful books. Izuku began to wonder why his elementary teacher never published them. Surely she was the one writing and drawing them... although he has never seen her do so.

"Alright class that's everything for the semester remember if your going home for the holiday don't forget anything or you won't see it again until you return afterward. No running and don't forget to clean up after yourselves don't leave the mess for when you return!" Mr. Burns was not a bad teacher just fairly strict and boring. Izuku packed up his belongings without any hurry after all it was not like he was leaving for the holiday anyways.

Izuku made his way down the hall and to the stairs leading from the 5th floor to the 1st where Mrs. Shimura's classroom was he knew she would be waiting for him to return the book he borrowed it hadn't taken him long to read this one seeing as it was not completed yet. When he asked why not she had smiled at him in an odd fashion saying the story was waiting for another character to appear.

Which was strange as he was certain the main character was Bakugo Katsuki. At least that was how it seemed anyways. The explosive blonde was proud, a bit arrogant, and crude but he was amazing and Izuku could tell his character was just about ready to go through some major development. The blonde who had failed the first provisional hero licensing exam had humbled him a bit, his capture by the league made him more caring about his friends it was only a matter of time before everyone else could see how great Katsuki will one day become.

Izuku couldn't wait to read about it. To picture himself right there as the blonde's friend, his rival, and hero partner egging each other on to reach higher to go further. It was an amazing daydream. One of Izuku's favorites. Izuku knocked three light taps on the door to Mrs. Shimura's classroom entering when he heard her call out for him too.

"Izuku! there's my favorite green boi, I was wondering when you would be coming by. So how was it The My hero Academia world?" Nana asked eyes seeming almost sad.

"I loved it, especially the main character Bakugo Katsuki. He seems angry and mean at first but I know there is far more to him than meets the eye! He is just so amazing!" Izuku grinned back trying to dispel the odd atmosphere.

"Hmm you think so... Sounds like you can relate to him or is it that you are crushing on the angry blondes with sharp features and pouty lips? Well, what do you say have you chosen a world you would want to go to yet? Maybe it can be a birthday present for you" Nana asked grinning slyly.

Izuku smiled as he blushed from the comments, she wasn't entirely wrong. Here at school Izuku was popular but was also a loner. His "Friends" if you could call them that asked for help with projects or homework but never to hang out. He had gotten a reputation for being the odd one out that never went home to see family so he was not close with anyone. So of course he developed crushes on characters from the books he read sometimes but it wasn't real so there was nothing to consider anyways. Izuku was just a lonely horny gay teen end of the story.

it was odd though that Nana kept asking her question, almost like an inside joke between them since he was 8 years old. He understood she was helping him when he had nothing and was nothing more than an angry emotionally stunted child by offering to send him to a new world it distracted him and gave him something to look forward to and escape from reality for a brief time. But he finally was going to humor her with an answer.

"Yes, I think I finally chose a world I would like to live in if I could. This one The My Hero Academia world, I would have a quirk, go to school learning to be a hero instead of an accountant or something so boring that I am sure my father will force me to go into it. I can't help but daydream about being friends with the famous class 2A hero students it would be fun I think." Izuku smiled hoping that now that he had answered that maybe Nana would drop it, It was starting to make him a bit depressed because reality was cruel like that no point dwelling on something that was impossible.

"I see is that really what you want? What quirk would you have?" Nana asked she looked serious. Izuku smiled back tipping his head to the side a moment in thought.

"Hmm, I am not sure, something cool so that I could hold my own against villains and train with the hero students... Oh, I know how about if I was able to manifest some different weapons like from that book soul eater... That would be trippy let's see with the skills I have I bet a scythe would be cool, or ninja sword, Enchanted sword mode would be awesome maybe with that cool shadow ability, and a Kusarigama. I bet I would rock those weapons... But wait would that also increase my physical abilities because I would almost need it to in order to be any good with it I mean from that book all the meisters were a bit special in physical abilities" Izuku started to mumble to himself as he forgot about his teacher as all the possibilities flew through his thoughts.

"I think that can be arranged let's see I would call that quirk Weapon Meister that would be a fitting name for it, don't you think? Are you ready then?" Nana asked cutting Izuku off as he looked at her confused. Nana took out a pen and opened the book he had just handed her and began to write.

"Nana what are you doing?" Izuku asked as she started to read aloud as she wrote into the book.

"During training for class 2A a rip tore into the sky and a young boy fell through from another world. This boy was special he dreamed about all the possibilities and worlds waiting for him to discover when one finally caught his eye. He willed his very soul into this world that would now be his. He was a bit short for his age at 5'9'' but he was of sturdy build with strong toned muscle he was swift and flexible from his training, He has been training nearly his whole life for the chance to live a new life in another world free to be whoever he wished to be..."

The room grew dark even though the sun was still shining outside. The windows were all closed and yet he could see the papers hanging on the walls begin to blow in an impossible wind the very ground began to shake beneath Izuku's feet. His eyes were wide as Nana continued to read as she wrote.

"He had green hair and vibrant green eyes, a constellation of freckles dotted his cheeks on top of high cheekbone and a sharp jawline. He was as heroic and brave as Almight himself and wanted to save all those he could reach with a smile on his handsome face." Nana finally looked up from the book as the ground opened from beneath Izuku's feet he was clinging to a desk desperate not to fall.

"Be happy Izuku and I hope you find everything you're looking for in your new world, Tell Toshi I am proud of him and as a Book Keeper, I will always watch over him. Goodbye Izuku You were my favorite student I have ever had the pleasure of teaching." Nana said with a soft smile on her face and then he fell losing sight of the classroom as darkness swallowed him.

The void was black and he could not figure out how this was happening. It was too real to not be reality he never could have dreamed this could really be happening. He did not know how long he had been falling through that pitch-black silent void when suddenly there was light again and the ground was reaching up for him. Izuku screamed and slammed into the ground and he was once more within the dark.
