The dress was stunning, she thought, as she turned to examine herself in the mirror. The fabric was a thick plain black velvet that clung perfectly to her hips and thighs, the neckline low enough for the flirtatious evening she had planned, but high enough to be considered proper. On her hips rested a thin intricately woven rose gold chain encrusted with her favorite gems that matched her necklace. Her shoulders were covered by a thick matching white rose patterned shawl which tied together just below her breast, and a white clutch purse completed the impeccable outfit.
Yet the more she stared at herself in the mirror, the more out of place she felt. Her mind began picking at the minor imperfections, certain wrinkles looked awkward, her tummy was poking out a bit too far, what if someone noticed? What if-
“Stunning”
A deep voice breathed into her ear cutting through her intrusive thoughts. Her eyes turned up to see the beautiful chiss man standing just behind her, his deep intelligent red eyes staring back at her through the mirror.
She smiled softly, as his hand gently ran down her arm bringing up her hand and pressing her knuckles to his lips.
“And yet you look displeased” He murmured against her hand taking in the smell of the perfume on her wrist. “Does it not suit your taste?”
She turned to wrap her arms around his neck, still smiling.
“No, there's nothing wrong with the dress my love,It’s breathtaking” She assured him, her thumb caressing the bone of his cheek lovingly.
“Then what is it that's troubling you dove?” He hummed.
She sighed her eyes looking down sheepishly, her hands smoothing the nonexistent wrinkles in his uniform. “It’s just me.” She said, pausing to collect her thoughts for a moment “I feel as though the person in the mirror is someone else. I’m sorry, I know it sounds ungrateful-”
“Who do you see then?” He interrupted
“What?”
He took her by the waist firmly turning her to face the mirror.
“Who is the woman in the mirror?” He repeated slowly “ Describe her. “ he urged waiting patiently,as her eyes studied the couple in the mirror.
“She’s beautiful, “ She finally said “organized, capable, social, elegant. I see a woman who stands strongly on her own” She continued, covering one of his hands with her own giving a gentle squeeze “Shes someone who complements the man beside her.” Her eyes filled with tears, her gaze drifting back to the floor as he waited patiently for her to finish “She’s brave.” she finished, breathing shakily as she began to realize that wasn’t the dress or her body. It was her. Just her.
“Thats rather amusing,” Her face twisted in anger, as she looked up to glare at him bitterly through the mirror causing him to give an uncharacteristic chuckle.
“Organized you certainly are not” He said, pressing a kiss to her temple as he looked over to her closet door which hid much of her collection of trinkets and oddities.” However” he continued “You are certainly capable” He said dropping his head to kiss the shell of her ear, nipping her jeweled lobe, as he continued his decent. She gave a small squeak at his attention, her irritation fading with each touch.“Strong” Another kiss to her jaw “Brave” His breath fanned her neck making her gasp “Full of life” He said finally nipping the spot that made her knees buckle slightly, her back pressing into his chest and successfully managing to crumple the fabric of his uniform that he wore with pride.
He chuckled again, allowing her to stand on her own.
“You forgot ‘Social’ and ‘elegant’ '' She teased breathily with her hand at the juncture of her neck trying to calm her racing heart beat.
He gave an amused smile through the mirror
“My dear, you spilled champagne on me the first time we met and then proceeded to tell me how you hated galas because you felt they were just another way for the wealthy to flaunt their riches.”
She gave a gasp covering her mouth in shock “Well! I will apologize for the champagne, but what I said was true”
“Dove” He said endearingly “It was MY party”
She broke into a hearty loud laugh turning again to face him. He smiled adoringly, his hand coming up to caress her smiling cheeks silently.
“Maker” She giggled, carefully brushing away a tear. “After such a terrible first impression, what made you ask me out?”
“It was a whim” He answered simply “ And just perhaps, I was slightly tipsy. You did look rather lovely in that gown.”
She gave a pleased hum, positively glowing from the memory.
“What about the second date?” she mused, leaning her chest to meet his flirtatiously.
“I suppose I found you strangely endearing.” He said, bringing her face closer, her nose barely brushing his eyes wide and glittering with anticipation.
“And now?”
She breathed against his lips.
“Now? Now you bring me joy. I appreciate the complicated facets of your personality. You offer me a fresh perspective, you challenge me.” He admitted softly closing the gap between them, cradling the back of her head firmly to keep control of the kiss. He could feel the subtle upturn of her lips against his as his teeth caught her bottom lip. She sighed, giving in to his silent question and allowed his tongue entrance. He savored the taste, knowing just how brief the time they had together was. He wanted her to remember this moment with him fondly.
She only pulled away when the need for air became too great. He cherished the smile that remained on her face, tracing it with his fingertips in adoration. Her lipstick, once a blood red now a fine deep pink, his own lips likely a similar color, especially if her snickering was anything to go by, but he didn’t mind.
“Shall I cancel our reservation and order-in tonight?” He asks between kisses down her neck.
“ Oh maker, don't you dare! I have been looking forward to wearing this dress for three months!” She responded
He chuckled “What a pity” He teased giving her a final peck on the lips before allowing her to pull away “As you wish Ch'eo ch'acah”
