“Noya! It’s still four in the morning! Just why are you cal-”
“Hey, Y/N! Wake up! Classes were suspended!” You were cut off by this boy’s energetic aura. You couldn’t stay mad at him for two reasons, 1.) You woke up at the sound of your phone ringing just to inform you about the good news and 2.) it’s raining and still dark outside but Nishinoya’s smile was so bright enough to be your sunshine. Oh, and 3.) he looks so handsome with his hair down. As always.
“Okay, okay. Let’s go back to sleep, thanks for telling me though,” you closed your eyes, camera’s still on and normally he would just end the call so you waited for him to drop it but this time he didn’t. “Why????” you asked, eyes still closed.
You heard a shuttering sound.
“Hey!! Delete that!” You opened your eyes wide as you heard him giggle.
“You look so cute, I had to!” Then he laughed. You want to curse him for making your heart beat so fast early in the morning.
As you cover your face with a blanket, hoping he would not see your flustered face, you sighed in defeat. “Ugh, just go back to sleep, Noya.” You groaned as you felt yourself wanting to doze off sooner or later. “No school for today so we can just relax for now. I’m dropping thi-”
“Wait!” He exclaimed. “I know it will rain the whole day but, can you come with me later?”
Your face lit up, thinking he was asking you out or something. Then you realized it’s nothing special. You know that he just wants company when he buys a certain object that he wants. Closing your eyes, deciding if you’ll go or not, you hummed a soft “hmm”.
“Please, y/n…” It’s a wrong move when you peeked to look at his face. It just made you weak and ended up agreeing with him. “Fine, just let me sleep first.”
“Thank you! Sleep well Y/N! See you later!” He beamed. Then he ended the call.
You turned around and as you closed your eyes once again, you saw his face and made your lips curved up at the image of him in your mind.
As expected, you and Nishonoya went to the mall just to buy the shirt he saw online.
“Which one looks better, y/n?” Nishinoya asked, holding two shirts.
/Anything looks better with you, Noya./
“Uhmm, I guess the brown one.” You replied. “Alright!”
As you listened to his stories, the two of you walked around the mall. There’s a comfortable atmosphere whenever you’re with him. My goodness, you had a crush on him for so long. Was it considered just a ‘happy crush’ if it lasts for 8 years?
Yes, you met him when you were kids and you saw him getting scolded by his grandpa. He was crying and to cut a long story short, you gave him a small piece of chocolate to cheer him up.
“Here! Eat this! They say it will make you happy!” The kid version of you patted Nishinoya’s head and he stopped crying.
“T-thank y-you.”
But you didn’t know he would do the same thing. /To cheer you up./ He was basically your happy pill, so being together with him is just fun and light. You enjoy his presence, to the point that you were longing for it when he’s not around.
Nishinoya stopped in his tracks and gave a small pack of chocolate. “I know you’ve been sad these days because you didn’t get a higher score in the exams.” He explained.
“So, I’m here to make you smile and happy!” He declared.
Hearing these made your heart race a marathon, eyes welled up, and gasped for air.
/He’s so precious./
Then you gave him a soft smile, “You always make me happy, Noya.” He saw your welled up eyes looking at him, and he didn’t know what’s gotten into him after this.
You found yourself wrapped in his arms tightly yet in a very gentle way. You hoped that he would not hear nor feel the drumming of your heart but you melted anyway. You hugged your friend back, tightly as if you would lose him.
“Y/n,” he finally spoke while you, still in his arms.
“Hmm?”
“I want to make you happy…
Forever, Y/n.”
“Sorry, I couldn’t wait any longer. I want to be the man who will make you smile and happy.. Forever.”
You tensed up. All the emotions you’ve been hiding, all the feelings you felt that’s nothing, all the things you imagined, now it has come to light. You widen your eyes and tighten your hug as you bury yourself at the crook of his neck. You felt tears streaming down your face, making his shoulders damp.
“Hey, I just said I will make you happy! Why are you crying?! Did I fail already?!” Nishinoya jokingly said.
You slowly pulled away to look at him in the eyes. Then it sank to you. It’s not just a “happy crush.” It’s more than that.
“Noya,” you whispered as you felt him wipe the tears in your face.
“Noya, you know, I liked you for so long… I mean, /like/ was not enough, I think I love you so much.” There, all of the things inside you felt like you unleashed something so big making you sigh in relief.
You didn’t care what his answer was. For you, knowing the truth behind these ‘feelings’ were enough and you think he deserves to at least know about it.
“So that means, I can make you happy forever right?” He smiled widely, traces of redness on his cheeks.
The realizations today were so unbelievable. You nodded yes, since you’re running out of words out of pure joy in your heart.
“Then leave this to me,” he said, holding your hand. “I promise I’ll make you happy.”
You intertwined your fingers with him and gave him a gentle smile, “I’m glad, classes were suspended. If not, I won’t be holding your hands like this today.”
He laughed but a few more steps, you were supposedly to fall but a hand on your back was quickly there. As you looked up, you saw Nishinoya, grinning once again. “Don’t worry, I’ll catch you when you fall.”
“You already caught me.” You smiled as you fixed yourself up.
“I’m Karasuno’s Guardian Deity after all, of course I will /save/ you.”
My goodness, his cheesy lines are just so corny sometimes but it still makes your stomach feel butterflies.
“Oh and Y/n? Turn around.”
You felt something around your neck. It was a silver necklace with the first letter of your name.
“There! It looks good on you! Been wanting to give it to you since grade school!”
“Grade school?”
“Yes, I like you since grade school, Y/n!”
Alright, butterflies in your stomach was an understatement. It’s a whole zoo now.
