Love Lies

Summary:

*on a, maybe forever, hiatus*

Dream's family is under the impression that, for Christmas, he will be bringing a significant other. So, Dream does the one thing he can think of- he decides to ask George to be his fake boyfriend for a week. Much to his surprise and relief, George hesitantly accepts.

Notes:

Fun fact- I started writing this last year, but never finished it because I didn't like it. I started rewriting it a while ago, so... I hope you all enjoy this DNF Christmas special!

Chapter 1: Chapter One - Request

Chapter Text

“...You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“George, please !” Dream whined into his microphone. He was currently trying to convince George, his best friend, to go with him to his family’s Christmas get-together as his date. His whole family had been set on the untrue fact that he had a partner, so now he was scrambling to get one just for the get-together- and he thought George would be his best bet. “I’m begging you-”

“Why can’t you get, I don’t know,” Dream could practically see George waving his hand in the air, trying to pick a random friend of theirs that could work, despite neither of their cameras being on. “Sapnap to do it?”

“My family knows me and Sapnap too well- they’d know right away.” He heard George groan on the other side of the call, along with a very quiet creak from the Brit’s chair as he, presumably, leaned back. “George, please . It’s not like we’ll actually be dating- we just need to do this for a week. Please .”

“What am I even getting out of this?” It was hardly a start, but hey- it was farther than they were just moments ago, and Dream was happy that George was even considering it now, if he got something out of it. “ Why should I agree to this?”

“Because! I’ll- I’ll pay for everything! I’ll pay for your plane ticket, food- I’ll fucking spoil you the entire time with whatever you want, if you do this.” Dream paused for a moment. “And you’ll get to see my face.”

It was a lot that Dream was promising here- but he didn’t care. Whatever would convince George to go, he’d do.

There was quiet for a few moments, and Dream dug his nails slightly into his chair, silently begging for a yes.

“I can’t believe I’m about to say this,” He heard George mutter. “ Fine . When is it?” Dream smiled, sitting up in his chair.

“Next Saturday- we’ll be there with my family for a week, and we’ll be leaving the morning after Christmas.”

“I’m going to have to tell my parents I can’t see them until after Christmas, then,” George sighed. “I’m going to bed.”

“Okay, um- first, do you want me to buy your ticket here early so we can hang out for, like, a day or two before we go hang out with my family?”

“Yeah, sure,” Dream smiled at that, though he did feel bad- George sounded so tired.

“Okay.” Dream was already looking for a ticket. “We’ll talk more about everything later?” George hummed.

“Sounds good,” Dream heard George yawning on the other side of the call, and he couldn’t help but smile more. It really wasn’t all that late where George lived- at least, not late for George-, but he was already tired. Maybe he hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before? “Goodnight, Dream.”

“Night, Georgie. Thank you so much.”

“Yeah, whatever,” George scoffed. “It better be fuckin’ worth it.” Dream laughed.

“It will be, princess .” Dream could practically hear George cringing.

“Okay, yeah, bye.” And just like that, George had left the call before Dream could say anything more- which left Dream laughing so hard in his chair that he was getting lightheaded, and Patches was staring at him like he was crazy.

Dream stared at his screen and realized that he really hadn’t asked when George was free and able to leave or anything, so he wasn’t sure what ticket to buy. Of course, Dream wanted George to be there as soon as possible, but he knew George liked having a plan ahead of time.

George got stressed when he had little time to do something, so Dream always tried to give him as much time in advance, to keep him from getting too stressed out, or too anxious.

So, Dream decided to leave that for the morning, when George was awake and he could ask him what time he wanted to leave. It was the least he could do for having George come with him as his boyfriend .

Dream felt his cheeks flush a little at that. He… really hadn’t thought about that all that much- not until now.

Shaking his head, Dream stood up after turning off his computer and immediately left to go to his bedroom to flop onto his bed. He crawled under the covers and Patches soon laid near his feet, and a smile came to Dream’s face.

He was finally going to be able to see George in person soon- even if it was under… weird circumstances.

Soon after Dream had woken up, he had messaged George if maybe Thursday was a good day for him to come. He was almost certain George wasn’t awake just yet, since he had about the same sleeping pattern as a lazy cat, but it didn’t hurt to message then.

Once that was done, Dream made some food for himself and fed Patches- though Patches, after eating her food, immediately came to stare at his food, like she’d get some.

Just a minute after sitting down, Dream felt his phone vibrate, and he immediately checked it- surprised to find that George had texted him, earlier than Dream had expected.

Gogy: That’s fine

Dre: Ok

Dre: I’m gonna order a ticket

Dream immediately went back to where he had been looking for a ticket before, finding one on Wednesday that would take off at five PM for George.

Dre: It’ll take off at like 5 pm on wednesday for you

Dre: Is that ok or do you want a different time?

Gogy: That works

Dre: Ok

Dream quickly ordered that ticket, gently pushing Patches off to the side as she tried to steal some of his food.

Gogy: Can we talk about rules for this when I get there?

Dre: Rules?

Gogy: Like

Gogy: Boundaries and shit

Dre: Yeah of course

Gogy: We also might want to record a video or something for while we’re gone?

Dre: We have plenty of time for that

Gogy: We should get it done sooner rather than later

Dre: We could do it while you’re here?

Gogy: Horrible idea

Gogy: If we don’t say anything about us meeting up and we do a video in separate rooms, they’re gonna hear your wheezing from my mic

Gogy: Or hear your girly ass screams

Dre: You mean your girly ass screams from mine

Dre: But whatever

Dre: You’re right

Gogy: Damn right I am

Gogy: I’m always right

Dre: Girlfriend is always right

Gogy: Fuck you

Dre: I love you too <3

They stopped talking soon after that so George could start to pack, and Dream quickly finished his food- definitely not giving into Patches’ adorable, sad look and giving her just a little bit of his food. Once he finished his food, Dream started to clean his apartment.

While it wasn’t that messy, and it was a little while before George would be there anyway, Dream wanted to get the cleaning done a few days before rather than wait and panic about it later.

Then, suddenly, as he was picking things up around the house, the thought of where George was gonna sleep hit him like a truck. He didn’t want George to just sleep on the couch- he did say he’d spoil him, after all-, but he didn’t exactly have a spare bedroom.

Well, he did , but that room had no bed, and it was used for his computer and storage.

Dream shrugged it off. George could just have his bed, and Dream could sleep on the couch. He had a feeling George probably wouldn’t want to share a bed, which was fine. Dream was fine giving up his bed for a couple days.

It really was the least he could do for George.
