Work Text:
North leaned in close to the wretched man’s face, “I don’t want to see you anywhere near Connor do you understand?” She pressed in closer, “Or I’ll-”
“Or you’ll what North?” Markus was giving the same cocky grin as if nothing concerned him and it made North’s Thirium boil.
“You’ll tattle tale on me-”
SMACK
Seeing his face morph into pure surprise and a tinge of worry assured North that he got the point. He placed a hand on his cheek and glared at her to save face.
“This isn’t fucking girl scouts, Markus.
“This is a man’s life and wellbeing, and I’m warning you now that I am fully willing to take you apart piece by fucking piece if you so much as look at him,” She cornered him to the filing cabinet, “I don’t give a shit if you led this revolution. I did this to help people and scum like you don’t deserve to have any mercy upon them.”
Markus started opening his mouth but North beat him to the punch.
“Don’t you fucking dare try to gaslight me on this either. You and I both know I’m not that stupid.”
They glared at each other for a tense minute, neither of them moving. Not even blinking.
“So why are you here then, North? Just to threaten me?” Markus really wanted to push his luck here giving that cocky glare again.
How she hasn’t already knocked the living daylights out of him in all the time she’s known him is really starting to feel like a mystery to her.
North dug a pointed finger into the other’s shoulder, “Yeah. And I’m just here to make sure you know that that shit you pulled? It ain’t sliding anymore around here.”
“I don’t think you have a say in that, WR400.” Oh, Markus was going to try and pull his psychological tricks on her too? She wasn’t going to play along nice and sweet.
North let him go and casually started to walk away, “I don’t think you have much of a call on that either, RK200. Don’t bet on that leadership high horse you have going on either. I actually came here to tell you that you’ve been demoted,” She looked back on the other’s pathetic, furious face, “I just wanted to remind you that no matter how skilled you think you are, I will tear you to shreds. Enjoy your last moments of leadership, Subordinate.”
Sure North was playing cocky, walking away and turning her back to him, but she was doing this more as a point to show that she wasn’t going to give him any more of what he wanted.
Shutting the door tight behind her, she could hear Markus already throwing his tantrum in there. He can cry all he wants, all three of them have a new city and society to build and they didn’t need a person like that anywhere near the helm.
Nip it at the bud, one might even say.
She wanted to redecorate their new office anyway, so he was making it easier for them later. North just hoped she wasn’t late to check up on Connor after his therapy session now as she walked away with her head high.
