City of Love

Summary:

Hope and Landon discuss a future.

Notes:

This is a total scrap but after Landon's letter in 4x07, I just had to get this out of my system.

Work Text:

“Landon? Are you awake?” Hope whispered as she snuggled into his chest.

“Yeah, you okay?” Landon muttered back, his voice slightly thick, the thought of sleep creeping up on him.

“Do you ever think about what you’d wanna do after we graduate? You know, if there weren’t any monsters to be fought and your body snatching dad to worry about.” Hope asked him quietly. Landon smiled and kissed the top of her head.

“Of course I do, and all my plans include being with you.” He whispered, his breathing heavier now. Hope’s cheeks warmed at his answer.

“What kind of plans?” Hope asked.

When Landon didn’t answer, she looked up at him and found that he had already fallen asleep. She smiled and kissed his cheek, not wanting to wake up, and snuggled back into him.

“All my plans include being with you too.” Hope whispered.

“Stop.” Landon said, his eyes closed and his head turned slightly away from Hope. She had been laying beside him, letting memories of past conversations play in her head, thinking he had already fallen asleep. His sudden interruption had knocked her out of her thoughts and brought her back to reality.

“What?” Hope asked as she turned to look at him. His head was still turned in the opposite direction from her, but she could tell his eyes were still closed.

“Whatever you’re worried about. Just stop.” Landon muttered.

“How do you know I’m worried? You didn’t even open your eyes.” Hope argued. A smile crept up on Landon’s lips.

“You think I need to see you with my eyes to know something’s going on with you? Tell me, what’s on your mind?” Landon replied.

“I’m just.. thinking about the future. If we’ll still have a future, after everything.” Hope said quietly.

At this, Landon turned to look at her, his eyes flying open. He knew what she meant, even though her words were vague. Would both of them still be alive, would they still want to be with each other after everything they’d have to go through, would they even be able to have some semblance of a normal life. Is a future even possible. These were the things plaguing Hope’s mind, even if she didn’t say it out loud.

“Come here.” Landon said and opened his arms. Hope immediately rolled into him, closing the distance between them and snuggled even closer.

“Fate wants us to believe that we’re doomed. And everyone else can believe that, but not us. Because you and I, we’re stronger than anything. Screw fate, when it’s all said and done, I’m taking you everywhere.” Landon said firmly as he gently tightened his hold on his girlfriend. Hope smiled and tilted her head up, kissing his jaw tenderly.

“And where would you take me?” Hope asked curiously.

“I’ve always wanted to go to Europe.” Landon answered and looked down at Hope. He lifted his hand and gently brushed his knuckles along her cheek, while she lifted her hand that was placed on his chest, to caress his jaw with her fingertips.

“Europe’s a big place. Where would we start?” Hope smiled and kissed his chin.

“Rome. I’d like to try their pizzas, since pizza is technically an American dish that was branded Italian.” Landon grinned. Hope laughed and shook her head at him.

“You’re such a dork sometimes.” Hope told him then proceeded to snuggle into the crook of his neck.

“That statement is untrue. I’m a dork ALL the time.” Landon chuckled and Hope giggled along with him. Landon shivered at the feel of Hope’s soft giggles against his neck, which Hope took as a cue to kiss him in that same spot she was snuggled in.

“Mmm, what about after Rome?” Hope asked as she dropped her hand back to his chest and drew lazy circles.

“It’d be your choice. So, where would you take me after Rome?” Landon responded. His hand was now wrapped around Hope once again, stroking her side gently and absentmindedly.

“Paris.” Hope answered quickly, a smile curving on her lips, already knowing Landon’s thoughts on the matter.

“City of love, huh?” Landon chuckled and Hope nodded with a smile.

“Well, you want to go to Italy to try their pizzas, I want to try the beignets in France. Nothing says love like beignets.” Hope grinned teasingly but Landon wasn’t offended.

“In that case, then we’re definitely stopping by Brussels for the waffles, Berlin for the chocolate and London for the fish and chips. Seems like we’re going on a food trip.” Landon said jokingly. Hope genuinely laughed at that and the sound of it made Landon’s heart swell. He hadn’t heard the fullness in Hope’s laughter in such a long time, and it was overwhelming. In the best way.

“No, it wouldn’t just be a food trip. We’d go skiing in the Swiss Alps, experience gondola rides in Venice, go skinny dipping in Sweden. Or island hopping in Greece, and cliff diving in Croatia. We’d go see the Northern Lights.” Hope smiled happily as she listed all the things she and Landon would do.

There was a moment of silence as both of them imagined doing each of those things with one another. Landon being a little shy about skinny dipping. Hope quickly learning how to ski while Landon opts for a snowboard instead. Both of them getting a little seasick on the gondola rides. Holding hands as they dive off the cliffs together and simultaneously break into the water. And having the most perfect kisses under the most perfect lights.

“Sounds perfect.” Landon whispered as his lips brushed against Hope’s forehead. She nodded in agreement then lifted herself up to lean in. Her lips hovering over his.

“Promise we’ll get to go?” Hope asked, the worry back in her voice. Landon tightened his arms around her once more and lifted his head up enough to kiss her nose gently.

“I promise.” Landon answered. With a smile, Hope leaned down and pressed her lips to his, kissing him lovingly, tenderly, sweetly.

“And after all that, we’ll hike up the Pacific Coast together and go kayaking in Vancouver. Then we’ll go witness the Cherry Blossoms bloom in Japan.” Landon whispered against Hope’s lips before pulling her back in for another kiss.

“Somewhere along the way, we are gonna have to add in a pit stop to New Orleans. Pretty sure my family will want to meet you before you take me on a world tour.” Hope giggled and leaned back in for more kisses.

“Absolutely, we’ll stop by before we head over to Rio de Janeiro for Carnival, because we absolutely cannot miss that. And if you haven’t grown tired of me by then, maybe we can even add in a dance under the stars in Barcelona. I have plans for us, Hope Mikaelson. The world isn’t ready for us.” He whispered once more, a smile on both their lips, before they fell back into their kisses, the push and pull of each kiss becoming more intense.

“I love you.” They whispered together between shallow breaths, before letting their kisses completely take them over.
