Work Text:
Having resided in a place without seeing the outside other than for a few recreational moments with the boys and doing her bi-weekly grocery shopping; you’ve grown accustomed to just knowing what time it was via a Circadian rhythm of sorts. Usually, it was filled with varying activities around noon to either making lunch, tinkering with something with Sasori - the man always made it clear that if he says a certain time, he means it! - having art time with Deidara, tea time with Itachi, play time with Tobi, pets for Zet, wrangling Maneki, staying out of Kakuzu’s way –honestly, that was every hour of the day unless needed-to-interact with basis. - “alone time” with Hidan –the man was beyond insatiable- and finally cuddles for one of your favorite nin, Kisame – of course, you knew you couldn’t play favorites here, but it was an understanding that you both knew. Yes, everyone always had your attention one way or the other around noon, but it’s lately has become less and less chaotic. Even your one-eyed troublemaker took a nap at this time.
So, instead of the usual interchanging activities you’ve once found yourself doing, it's turned into a napping/cuddling session with certain shark nin. If it wasn’t for the fact that he had a band around his head, knew lighting fast hand signs and a weapon that was unique in it’s own right of it being sentient; you would have thought him of a gentle giant of a man who handled you like you're porcelain and kept you shut out from the horrors of the world ensnaring you in such an intimate embrace. Today was no different.
Soft groans stirred from the wild-haired, bluish grey skinned man as you mumbled sleepy, trying to cuddle into him with the attempt to stop from pulling away, only achieving an enticingly throaty chuckle from the man.
“Trust me, sweetheart. I wouldn’t want to go another second of having your in my arms, but nature’s calling.” Even from behind your pouting closed lids, you can tell he had that signature face, just short of laughing at your antics and resulting in just that as you let out a dejected sigh and told him to hurry back. You didn't voice it, but you didn't wish to miss the few quiet hours you’ve been graced with for the past few days- unsure when the others would come back for their own missions or journeying outside their rooms to cause whatever ruckus your boys were prone to.
Letting out another hardy laugh and Kisame asked in a knowing way of what your small interaction betrayed.
“You’re right. Never know when Hidan will bust into the base or Deidara for that matter. Well... until you hear them first”,shot out the toothy grinned shark man as he rustled your hair promptly you peer up at him from the confides of the covers you both found yourselves twisted in at one point of your slumber. Already slipped out of the covers and hand on the doorknob, he threw one last remark toward you.
“I’ll be back before you know it, kitten.”
Whether it was intentionally or not, you didn’t know, but the nickname that he’s dubbed you with since the first time you had sex always sent a flurry of red across your cheeks. Now only becoming all the more apparently when he lets out another mighty laugh as he left out the door, the sound reverberating against the walls.
Despite how many encounters you’ve had with the majority of the members, you still could be reduced to a puddle as you buried your head into the pillows – only making matters worse as they carried the familiar scent that made up Kisame - the heady smell of the sea, salty but comforting like all the times you did get a chance to gaze upon it close up.
Before your thoughts could wander too much further on Kisame’s scent, a rumbling was coming from beside the bed. Peeking from the puffy mounds of cloth, you spied Samehada quaking, it’s tremors starting small and then rippling a bit more violently; as if trying to convey something.
Your thoughts flashed back at the time you came in contact with it before and how Kisame instructed you to approach with caution lest it’s spikes attack you. Curiosity getting the better of you, you edged yourself out the cocoon of covers and sat upright on the bed with your feet dangling off the bed - you reached out slowly to the weapon as you spoke to it simultaneously.
“Samehada... Did you want cuddles too?”
The weapon as if saying yes, it slowed down it’s shakes to mimic a small murmur. A small smile crossed your face as you gently gripped the handle and tilted the fearsome blade against your body.
“Sorry. I don’t think I can pick you up and put you in the bed next to me. This is the best I can do”, you say apologetically, but the blade didn’t seemed to mind as it let out a rumble that you could only describe like the purr your cat would give you when she’s comfortable in your lap and drifting off to sleep.
An epiphany struck you then. Did the blade sleep when Kisame wasn’t using it? Was it jealous that it’s master got to sleep and be held while it only got to be propped up against a wall? Granted, you’ve seen Kisame take good care of Samehada, but the questions still piqued at your mind.
“Samehada, I don’t usually do this. But I can cuddle you and sing you a lullaby, if you want?” The question didn’t even hang in the air long as it trembled with what you could take for as excitement coming off in waves across your body causing you to laugh aloud. “Okay, okay! I’ll take that as a yes.”
At your response it stopped abruptly, giving you time to think of a song to soothe the blade. You gave it some thought as a song came to mind, one that you would sing to yourself when lived your family; craving to either drift off into a dreamland that was away from them or dreaming of the day you could finally grow older and leave them behind for good.
“Okay. I have one. Even through it sounds said, I honestly thought of it as being a silent promise to myself”, you took in a calming breath as your heart pounded as the blade trembled expectedly. Your voice started off as a small, tremble as you tried to gain a hold of your nerves.
“Sing me to sleep. Sing me to sleep. I’m tired and I- I want to go to bed. Sing me to sleep. Sing me to sleep. And then leave me alone.”
Adjusting the cradling hold you had on Samehada, you drew it bit closer. You found the trembles no longer came from your mouth, but rather Samehada itself as if it's rumbles were encouraging you to continue. Gently, you smiled to the weapon as your voice found more strength to sing the wistful tune as you pet the sentient being in thanks.
“Don’t try to wake me in the morning because I will be gone. Don’t feel bad for me. I want you to know. Deep in the cell of my heart, I will feel so glad to go.” A more melodic sound of promise sprung from your lips as you continued.
"Sing me to sleep. Sing me to sleep. I don’t want to wake up on my own anymore. Sing to me, sing to me. I don’t want to wake up on my own anymore. ” Eyes closed, you continued singing, harmonizing as you gently rocked with the blade balance in your arms as you sway side to side.
“Don’t feel bad for me. I want you to know. Deep in the cell of my heart, I really want to go. Sing me to sleep. Sing me to sleep. There is another world. There is a better world. Well, there must be. Well, there must be. There is another world. There is a better world.” You ended the song as well as your motions as you noticed that Samehada held a constant, content rumble as if imitating soft snores. Smiling to yourself, you gently untangled yourself from it and leaned over to lay the sleeping "form" against the wall by the bed again, respectively, leaving a gentle kiss on the being it slightly stirring only to go back to it’s soft rumbles.
“Have sweet dreams, Samehada. I’m glad we had this time”, you professed with genuine smile that reached your eyes.
As you turned from where you placed the blade, your eyes widened as you graced with a shirtless Kisame that leaned on the pane of the door, bemusement dancing in his eyes as he took in the scene.
Before he could cut in, you’d thought beat him to the punch. Tentatively, you asked him the question.
“Just... how long were you standing there?”
“From beginning to end of your little lullaby”, his smile widened as you buried your face in your hands in embarrassment which didn’t last long when you felt your chin tilted upward to receive a kiss on your forehead as you’re met with the sincere eyes of the man with a just as sincere smile.
“Thanks, sweetheart. For accepting not just me, but him, as well”, he gestured to the content, sleeping weapon. “I think I speak for both of us when I say that you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to this place and we hope that this “another world” is one you’ll call home with us.” Blushing, you thought you'd let your actions do the talking as you leaned up and kissed him before you proceed to pulling down with you on the bed.
