Gingerbread Kisses and Christmas Wishes

Summary:

Twyla and Alexis compete in a gingerbread house decorating competition.

Work Text:

Alexis figured she’d spent far too long sulking and if she was going to get used to living here she should try to do some of the things they do. For Christmas that appeared to be a gingerbread house competition and Alexis figured she’d be pretty good at that. First, she was really good at competition and second, she always watched Adelina decorate their gingerbread houses, so how hard could it be?

When Alexa showed up at Café Tropical she was confused. “Where are the gingerbread houses?“ Alexis whispered to Twyla, who was leaning up against the counter.

“What?” Twyla asked, confused by Alexis‘s question. “There are gingerbread houses on all of the booths.” Alexis glanced over at the booths which appeared to have very tiny paper plates with small cookies on them.

“Those are gingerbread houses?” Alexis clarified, still staring intently at the booths.

“I’m sort of afraid to ask, but what did you think you would be decorating today?”

“You know, gingerbread houses,” Alexis said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “These are like miniature versions which is like so cute, but I just thought they would be regular size.”

“What size are they normally?” Twyla asked, always intrigued to see how much different Alexis’ former life was to the one she was now being forced to live.

“Oh, you know, like three or four feet, I think?” Alexis said, trying to measure it out with her arms, “but these are like totally cute! I can’t wait to start decorating!”

“Do you want to partner with me?” Twyla asked, nervously. She and Alexis weren’t exactly friends, but then again, not a lot of people moved to Schitt’s Creek so she needed to jump at the opportunity while she had it.

“Omg, babe! We totally should!” Alexis squealed and Twyla felt her cheeks go red. Something about the way Alexis said, babe , had her heart racing. She hadn’t felt this way about a girl since college, but then again she hadn’t really had many options. As far as she knew, she was the only one her age in Schitt’s Creek that even liked women, which is why she mostly stuck to men. Twyla realized she’d be caught up in her thoughts when she felt Alexis’ hand on hers pulling her towards the booths, “Let’s find a table!”

Alexis slid into the booth and pulled Twyla into the booth next to her. “It’ll be easier if we’re on the same side,” Alexis explained and Twyla nodded, trying to keep her mind off Alexis’ thighs rubbing up against her own. “So, Twy, do you have any thoughts on the decorations?”

“Oh, um, I normally just go with the default look,” Twyla said, shrugging a bit.

“Love that for you, it’s so…quaint!” Twyla wasn’t sure if that was meant to be taken offensively or not, so she just smiled in response.

The actual competition went well and they came in second place right behind Jocelyn. As they cleaned up and Alexis started to head out, she paused, and said, “Hey, Twy? Do you want me to walk you home?”

Twyla felt her body tense in response, but she tried not to let that show as she responded, “If you want, but I live close, so it’s not a big deal.”

“Of course I want to! You’re like my only friend here and I could always use more Twyla time,” Alexis said in a tone that felt flirtatious. Twyla felt her face flush and hoped that it looked like it was due to the cold more than anything else. Alexis reached for her hand again and Twyla held it out to her. They walked hands intertwined the whole way to Twyla’s house. “Thanks for letting me walk you home,” Alexis said, placing a kiss on Twyla’s cheek before turning to leave.

“Thanks for walking me home,” Twyla said, trying to downplay the smile on her face. She felt like she could melt right then and there, but she managed to save face until she was inside then her thoughts started spiraling and she realized she might want more from Alexis than friendship.
