Chapter 1: A page of a book

Chapter Text

Nayeon POV

The sun was rising outside, a sign that another day had begun. I didn't want to go to school, I don't like it very much. Also the fact that I'm practically invisible.

Students have always seen me and treated me as if I were a simple extra. They never talk to me, knock me down and don't apologize, and there's even Bae Joohyun's little group - also called The Powerful Ones - who always treat me like thrash. I can never do anything, and I hate myself for it.

After getting ready, I put on my glasses and headed downstairs, greeting my parents and having a quick breakfast before leaving. I left my house and took a deep breath, starting to walk to school. It didn't take long, my house is about 20 minutes from there.

Once there, as always I was ignored by everyone, and went towards the tree that is in the corner of the patio, sitting down and starting to read the rest of the book I was reading. Everything was fine, until "The Powerful Ones" showed up.

"Hey four-eyes," Joohyun caught my eye. "What have you been reading so much? We can see?"

Sooyoung forced the book out of my hands and handed it to Joohyun, who soon began leafing through it. When she stopped at the last page, she ripped it off and crumpled it, then gave it to Yerim and ordered it to be put away. I sighed and stood up, waiting for what was going to happen. Joohyun chuckled mockingly and just patted my head, and took off my glasses, knocking them to the floor.

"Oops." Joohyun and the rest of her little group started laughing and walked away from me.

I took a deep breath and grabbed my glasses, then walked out of there. I didn't give a damn about the page torn out of my book, which was in the trash anyway. I don't like dirt.

Jeongyeon POV

I saw everything. Far away. I saw Joohyun's little group spoil Nayeon's book, and like the stupid coward that I am, I didn't do anything. I saw her leave with a sad expression, I didn't like to see her like that.

I think I should do something about that...

I walked over to the thrash can and after checking to see if anyone was watching, I looked inside. The paper was crumpled and thrown among te countless packets of snacks and soda tins. I looked back at the people, and when I saw they weren't giving a damn, I took the page and tucked it into my hoodie's pocket.

Now it's just unmask it and leave it on her desk anonymously.

I entered the classroom and saw very few people, some talking in the back and others near the teacher's desk. I walked over to Nayeon's desk and took one last look at the little paper ball in my hand. I opened it carefully and rested it on the table, putting my arm gently but firmly over it, leaving it less wrinkled.

I saw Nayeon enter the classroom, so, in an act of desperation, I dropped the paper into the space under her desk and hurried to my seat.

Nayeon POV

I sat down at my desk, and when I was going to organize the books in the space under my desk, I saw a slightly crumpled paper. I picked it up and saw that it was the page of my book that was missing. I smile minimally at that.

But now the question is,

It was in the thrash can, why out of nowhere did it show up here?

Storyteller POV

Nayeon was bored with the class, couldn't concentrate, as her mind was thinking about who was the good mysterious person who had the courage to reach into the trash and pick up the page from her book.

Jeongyeon looked at Nayeon's confused face from her desk, smiling when she saw her staring at the page she had retrieved. Yoo knew she couldn't personally tell Nayeon that she was the one who retrieved the page from her book, so she ripped a page out of her notebook and wrote something, signing it in random korean hangul handwriting. Then she crushed it and threw it on Im's table.

Nayeon saw the ball of paper on her desk. She looked around, no one staring at her, least of all Jeongyeon, who always stared at her with an unreadable expression. She opened the crumpled paper carefully and read what was written.

I was the one who got your book page back, ur welcome ;)

What would this signature mean? Nayeon knows it's a letter in the korean alphabet, but she doesn't know why the person decided to sign it that way. Im then put the paper in her backpack, hoping to try to decipher this mystery and find out who is the responsible for the paper ball message and for having retrieved the page from her book.
