the way you make me feel

Summary:

Being dragged to your friend's apartment to play a ridiculous drinking game on your night off was the last thing you wanted to do. Especially when your partner for said drinking game was the last person you would have picked. But it's just one night, and it's just one game. And it's just one guy.

But of course, it's that guy.

Chapter Text

“You know, Obito and Kakashi are having people over tonight.”

You looked up from your laptop at your roommate who was messing around in the kitchen and wearing a slight smirk on her face, which couldn’t have been good. You hesitantly turned back to your laptop, trying to focus on your midterm essay that was due on Monday and not whatever mischievous plan she might be up to.

“More like Obito is having people over,” you mumbled.

However, curiosity getting the best of you, you looked over towards the kitchen to inquire. “What are they doing tonight?”

Anko’s smirk grew and she started jogging to where you sat in the living room. She loved going over to their apartment on Saturdays, and you were always somehow dragged along, despite your many attempts at making excuses not to go. The only time you didn’t go was when you had work, which was every other Saturday. You knew by her excitement that there was no point in trying to make an excuse today because it looked like they were doing something fun.

She hopped onto the couch next to you, grinning like a maniac.

“They’re playing key to the fifth.”

You stared at her straight-faced before turning back to your laptop. “No.”

Anko’s face turned into a pout. “Noooooo, come on. Please go with me? We can be partners!”

You continued typing and staring at your laptop because you knew if you looked at her, she would be able to convince you with her signature puppy eyes. Racing to see who could finish a fifth of alcohol first while handcuffed to someone else was not how you had pictured your Saturday night at all. And playing with Anko was an even worse decision. She was way too competitive and you would end up shit-faced not even an hour into the party. If you were going to play, you would choose Kurenai, because you two didn’t care about winning.

You sighed and shook your head. “I don’t know Anko…”

She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted even more. You finally looked over at her which was a mistake, her puppy eyes making you mull over your decision not to go.

“Obito and Kakashi will probably be happy to see you, know,” She leaned closer to you, batting her eyelashes dramatically.

Obito and Kakashi had people over almost every Saturday night. However, while Obito was the definition of a more-than-eager host, Kakashi always acted as he would rather be anywhere but his own apartment when people were over.

You smiled and turned back to your work. “Kakashi doesn’t give a shit. He hates when people come over anyway,” you said. “But Obito has been asking me to come over to hang out for like the past two weeks since I’ve been working.”

“See?” Anko said, knowing she was about to win her argument. “You totally have to come.”

“I never said that was a reason for me to go,” you smirked at her. “Obito can suck it. I want to enjoy my night off.”

“You can enjoy with us,” Anko whined, gripping your forearm and shaking it. You were slowly breaking from her complaining and whining and she totally knew it from the smirk she was fighting down.

You rolled your eyes and shut your laptop, resulting in a squeal from Anko. You couldn’t help but smile at your adorably wild roommate. “Fine, but we have to be partners if Kurenai is with Asuma.”

She squeezed and shook your arm even harder, a cheesy grin spreading across her face. You laughed while she squealed a “yay” and got up from the couch, running to her room.

“I’ll get dressed! You should wear something hot!”

You lifted your arms over your head to stretch, mentally preparing yourself for the night ahead. You supposed one night out wouldn’t be too bad, and Kakashi and Obito lived down the street, walking distance from where you and Anko lived. If you wanted to leave early or needed to escape, you were safely able to walk back to your apartment. It had been a while since you had seen everyone together, so you forced yourself to keep a positive outlook. Even though a mountain of blankets and a movie were calling your name.

Before you were supposed to leave, Anko forced you to find something somewhat cute to wear in your closet, and you reluctantly went along. Allowing Anko to fuss over you for a bit with hair and makeup, it felt nice to get ready with her. Even though you didn’t usually go too all out, it was always fun to watch Anko get excited over what she would come up with for you.

“Damn, you look like an absolute babe,” She said as she stood back, admiring her work.

You scoffed, speaking with a sarcastic tone. “Like I’m trying to impress anyone there.”

“You dress up and look good for yourself and no one else. That’s the number one rule in this house.”

You both grabbed what you needed (fifth of vodka included), locked the door behind you, and headed down the street to Obito and Kakashi’s. It was Saturday night, the street littered with people here and there and the sound of bassy music bouncing through the many apartment buildings. You and Anko held each other close, catching up about the day and other various things. As you approached your friends’ apartment building, you saw a couple of familiar faces who were also heading to the same place you were.

“Genma! Iruka!” Anko screamed, hopping up and down with her arms still clutched to yours and you laughed. Genma and Iruka waved as you all met at the door.

“Well, look who Anko finally got to come,” Iruka teased, grinning at you. “It’s boring without you.”

You fell in step with Iruka as you all walked through the door, smiling at your friend who you hadn’t seen in a while. “I have a hard time believing that. Pretty sure Obito has the life-of-the-party thing covered.”

“Nah,” Iruka said. “Obito doesn’t force everyone to do karaoke when he’s drunk.”

You threw your head back with a laugh. “Can’t argue with that,” you smiled. This night was starting to look better by the second.

You four chatted until you made it to the door of your destination, music already blasting and bass vibrating through the wall. Iruka took the lead and opened the door.

Most of the regular people were already there in the small apartment, mingling and talking loudly over the music. You eyed Kurenai, Rin, Asuma, Kotetsu and Izumo, Gai, Raido, other people you had seen a few times. Immediately, Obito turned around to face you all at the sound of the door opening where he stood in the kitchen. A huge, goofy smile lit up his face.

“Heeeeeyyyy!” He yelled in greeting while throwing his arms in the air. Anko yelled back, throwing up the fifth of vodka in the air with Genma and Iruka laughing along. Before you could move out of the doorway, Obito’s eyes met yours, widening for a second before he smirked. You just smiled back, giving him a small wave.

Obito grabbed your arm and tugged you towards him, wrapping you up in his overbearing embrace. You groaned in protest but couldn’t help wrapping your arms back around him.

“There’s my favorite party animal,” he teased with fondness. “It’s been too long.”

You just giggled and pulled back so you could look at his warm eyes that you had to admit you missed. “You know I can’t resist you, Obito,” you said with a poke to his chest.

Anko then jumped towards you two, wrapping her arms around you both in a group hug. “She came for me Obito, don’t be fooled. No one can resist my charms,” she winked at you.

Obito barked out a laugh while you all stepped out of the hug. “Anko, your version of charming and mine must be very different—“

While Obito was receiving a slap on the shoulder from Anko at his teasing, you looked for Genma and Iruka who had already walked into the living room to greet Gai and Raido who were talking to Rin and Shizune. Asuma and Kurenai were sitting on the couch, too occupied with their own conversation to see that people had just arrived.

Then, something caught your eye that was coming around the corner of the nearby hallway, and you urged yourself to ignore the way you chest fluttered.

Obito’s best friend and roommate, Kakashi Hatake, rounded the corner looking bored and unimpressed as usual. Despite that, you cursed how he looked unfairly hot in just a crewneck and joggers, silver hair sitting in a mop on top of his head.

Kakashi’s dark eyes caught yours as he rounded the corner and you immediately turned back towards Obito and Anko.

You tried to remember when Kakashi had started to make you feel so…different. It’s not like you were even that great of friends. You were in the same friend group, had known each other since freshman year of college along with everyone else, had conversations with each other plenty of times, but no one would ever find you two going of your way to hang out with each other. In fact, you probably wouldn’t call Kakashi a friend. Just an acquaintance you hung out with a lot.

And someone who intimidated you immensely.

Kakashi Hatake was a little bit of a dick sometimes, but god was he handsome. He didn’t even have to fucking try. Everyone knew it, too. Sometimes, Obito would invite a few girls over that weren’t from your friend group, and every time you had to watch them throw themselves at Kakashi only for him to eventually decline. It’s not like you could blame them. He would flirt, sure, but in the end, you couldn’t remember him ever going out with anyone. Kakashi’s aloofness to most things and incredibly unfair good looks made you utterly intimidated most of the time, which caused you to not go out of your way to befriend him too closely. You didn’t usually go for people like that, anyway.

Like Kakashi would even look your way. Yet, he still made your chest squeeze every time those dark eyes met yours.

So you just turned back towards Obito and Anko and hoped he didn’t walk over.

Which, he didn’t. You heard Gai’s booming voice as Kakashi must have approached those who were in the living room.

“Uh, are you okay?”

Your eyes snapped up to Anko who was looking at you concerned but amused. Obito had the same expression, and you tried to act like you hadn’t just been spacing out while thinking about why Kakashi made your heart race—

You grinned, maybe a little too hard, and shrugged your shoulders. “Yeah, I’m fine…so when are we getting this thing started?”

Obito quirked his eyebrow at your unconvincing argument while Anko screamed something at Gai, running off to cause some trouble. You watched after her, avoiding eye contact with Obito before he put the pieces together.

Sometimes, Obito could be a little too observant.

“You know,” Obito leaned down closer to you, pressing your back further into the kitchen counter where you were leaning. “Kakashi asked about you the other day.”

Your eyes widened for a second before you forgot you weren’t supposed to be thinking about Kakashi. So, you quickly acted nonchalantly before responding. “Oh, really? What for?”

Obito, not even a little convinced, smirked at you, moving so close to you that your chests might as well have been touching. You just nervously looked up at him.

Then, he leaned his arms on either side of you to trap you, his grip on the counter was the only thing keeping your bodies from touching. You swallowed nervously at his strange, bold actions.

“Uh, Obito, what are you—“

“He asked if you were single,” Obito murmured quietly while leaning down to your ear, a mischievous glint in his eye. Your cheeks brushed and your entire body prickled with heat at how close he was. It wasn’t like you and Obito were afraid of touching and messing with each other, but this was very unlike him.

Then, his words hit you.

“H-He, what?” You stuttered.

Obito chuckled low into your ear. “And he’s staring at us right now. He’s doing a terrible job at trying not to care.”

“You’re sick,” you hissed. “Are you trying to make him mad?”

Obito laughed, leaning slightly back to look you in the eyes. Your faces were inches away. You just stared him down before you decided to challenge him back.

“Or,” you smirked. “You’re trying to make Rin look over here.”

Obito immediately backed away, a furious blush reddening his face. “N-No I’m not. That’s, uh, that’s not it…”

You laughed, putting a hand on his arm in comfort. “Nice try, Obi. You should really just talk to her tonight.”

Obito rubbed his neck nervously. “Whatever. But, I’m serious. Kakashi really did ask about you. And I saw you just now, you were totally checking him out.”

It was your turn to stutter nervously, a flush igniting your body again. “I was not checking him out! I was just, um…”

You made eye contact with Obito, those kind, knowing eyes unconvinced by your blabbering. You rolled your eyes at him. “You know, you piss me off.”

Obito barked out a laugh, grabbing your arms and pulling you away from the counter. He started to dance to the music with you like a complete goof. You laughed and went along, grateful that you decided to show up tonight.

Then, Obito pulled you towards him, leaning to your ear. “Give him a chance. He’s not intimidating, believe it or not. He just doesn’t open up right away.”

Before you could respond, Obito just grabbed your arm and started to drag you over to where everyone else was.

Give Kakashi a chance? Despite that strange feeling that tightened in your chest when you saw him, you still only knew Kakashi within a group dynamic. So what was the point of putting yourself out there when nothing come from it?

So you took a deep breath as you followed Obito to where the night would begin.

You greeted everyone else you hadn’t said hi to yet. Gai gave you a giant slap on the shoulder that almost knocked you over, but it was nice to see him again. Then, you felt someone come up behind you and embrace you with a squeeze. You gasped when you realized who it was.

“Kurenai!” You squealed, turning around and returning her hug. “Oh my god, it’s been forever!”

She chuckled. “I know! We have got to be partners tonight. I’m so excited.”

You turned around to face her with a grimace on your face. You had momentarily forgotten what game you came here to play tonight, and you groaned. “Ugh, don’t remind me. You better have not brought tequila.”

Kurenai laughed. “Oh come on, you know better than anyone that I can’t resist tequila.”

“Oh god,” you mumbled, and Kurenai just laughed again and pulled you in for a proper hug.

“I told her not to bring the tequila,” someone said next to you. “Especially after the incident last year.”

You pulled away from Kurenai to see Asuma standing next to you two. “Asuma!”

Reaching for a hug, Asuma’s tall frame swallowed you up. “It’s so good to see you,” you said.

Pulling away, Asuma smiled at you. “It’s good to see you, too. I’m just glad you’re here so I don’t have to be partners with this one,” he gestured to Kurenai.

“Hey!” Kurenai gave him a playful shove and he held up his hands in surrender.

You really did miss everyone and their antics. You were becoming more excited for the night.

“Alright, alright. Okay, listen up everyone!”

Everyone looked over to Obito who was standing on a chair trying to get everyone to quiet down. Gai’s booming voice was still going, telling a story or a joke or something to Anko and Iruka. Genma was still talking with people as well, and Obito grabbed his phone that was connected to the speakers to turn down the music.

“Okay, everyone shut the fuck up!” Obito yelled again.

“You shut the fuck up, Uchiha!” Gai yelled back at him, and everyone laughed.

Obito narrowed his eyes sarcastically until beginning his announcement again. “Okay, so, as you all know, you are here tonight not only to enjoy my wonderful company, but we are once again playing key to the fifth. I will now go over the rules so we all know the expectations for tonight.”

“Hurry up, Uchiha,” Genma mumbled. Obito tried to kick him from up on top of the chair unsuccessfully.

“Okay, so first we will all get partnered up. You and your partner will be handcuffed to each other with a fifth of alcohol between you. The first partners to finish their fifth by the end of the night wins. And you cannot remove your handcuffs under any circumstances. Not until the winners are declared.”

“Oh, come on!” Anko yelled. “Unfair! What if we have to take a piss?”

“Those are the rules, Mitarashi,” Obito smirked back. “And, one more thing.”

Obito leaned down and picked up a red solo cup, a terrible mischievous smile on his face.

“Partners will be at random.”

The entire room groaned as Obito shook the cup that was full of little pieces of paper with names. You groaned yourself, not wanting to be stuck with Gai or Anko who could hold their liquor quite well. You would not be able to keep up with them.

Please, Shizune or Kurenai please.

“Alright, quit your complaining everyone. I’ll pick the teams now,” Obito stuck his hand in the cup to start pulling names.

“We all know why Obito decided to do random partners,” Kurenai leaned to whisper to you. You just giggled.

“Okaaaaayyyy,” Obito pulled out the first name. “Genma….”

He shuffled around for another name. “And Raido.”

The two friends cheered and high-fived. Lucky assholes.

“Asuma…and…Iruka.”

Asuma whooped and Iruka did the same, walking towards Asuma with a bottle of something. They started chatting about whiskey when Obito called the next names.

“Me…and…Rin.”

“Yeah, like that wasn’t rigged,” you heard Genma mumble, and Obito tried to kick him again. Everyone snickered and chuckled.

“Okay next is…Kurenai…and Shizune.”

The universe hates me, you thought to yourself as your two friends squealed. The only two people you would have survived this game with were partner with each other.

Okay that leaves, Gai, Kotetsu, Izumo, Anko, and…Kakashi.

Please, please pick Anko.

“The next partners are…”

Obito said your name, his eyes finding yours with a prankish glint. You stared at him as hard as you could, willing him to pull Anko’s name.

“And…Kakashi.”

He is totally fucking rigging this.

You didn’t dare look at Kakashi. Not even when you saw his head turn around slightly to catch your eye. You just glared and glared at Obito who was going to get a piece of your mind later.

“Next we have…Kotetsu…and…Izumo…”

“Oh hell yes, we are totally winning this man!” Kotetsu grabbed Izumo around the neck with enthusiasm.

“That leaves the last pair…Anko…and Gai.”

“Oh, fuck no,” Genma said. “That’s completely unfair.”

“Yeah what the fuck? This game won’t last an hour with those two together,” Asuma added.

“You’re just bitter that you’re a fucking lightweight Genma,” Anko challenged while walking over to Gai. “Plus, it was random. Fair and square, bitches.”

“We will surely emerge victorious, Anko!” Gai clapped her on the shoulder.

How the two best drinkers got paired up together, you had no clue, but how you got paired with Kakashi…

Obito, you better say your prayers…

The music got turned up again, Obito smiling innocently and hopping down from the chair.

“Partner up, everyone!”

You watched as Kurenai and Shizune ran toward each other excitedly. It was hard not to feel left out. It was worse that you knew Obito rigged the whole thing. You would’ve been comfortable with anyone else…

“Yo.”

You jumped, turning to the presence that had suddenly shown up beside you. Your partner stood next to you staring at you with quite a disinterest and you would’ve been taken aback if your heart wasn’t beating in your ears and distracting you from the present moment.

“Hi,” you said instead, voice coming out much quieter than intended. Kakashi lifted an eyebrow quizzically while looking down at you.

“You okay?” He asked. “You look like you’re gonna be sick.”

You opened your mouth before sputtering out words. “O-Oh, no. I’m fine. I’m just—“

Suddenly, you felt a large hand wrap around your wrist and you were so on edge you jumped again, your shoulder brushing against Kakashi’s briefly as you turned around to see you had grabbed your wrist.

Obito slapped a cheap pair of handcuffs on your wrist while smiling at you like the asshole he was. He stood behind you and Kakashi, and you glared as hard as you could at him.

“Aw, don’t look at me like that,” Obito smirked down at you. “We’re gonna have funnnnnnn.”

Obito grabbed Kakashi’s wrist, locking the other half of the handcuffs around his wrist.

You were bound to Kakashi for an entire night.

“Have fun, kids!” Obito chuckled while walking towards the next pair.

“Do you like whiskey?”

Your eyes flipped to Kakashi, his stare intimidating you immediately. His hair fell over his forehead, some of it covering his dark eyes. The last time you had seen him, his nose ring had been a dainty black one, but he must have changed it to a thin silver one.

Then you realized he had asked you a question.

“Uh,” you blurted. “I’m sorry, what?”

Kakashi blinked at you. You already felt a flush erupt throughout your body, and then Kakashi’s lips quirked up into a smirk that made you want to melt into the floor.

“Come on,” he said, then linked his handcuffed hand with yours. The jolt it sent through your body made you gulp.

Obito, you better fucking say your prayers.
