Work Text:
Dabi was hurt. Of course, he had gotten hurt badly before. As a villain, it’s a part of the job but it had never been this bad.
He could feel the blood pouring out of the gaping hole on his side as he walked towards Hawks apartment.
Earlier in the evening, Dabi had an altercation with a bunch of back-alley villains. They weren’t many at first but then, a lot more started showing up and soon enough, Dabi was just too outnumbered to win. He still managed to get away but not without getting injured. “If I don’t die from this, Birdie is gonna kill me himself” muttered the villain.
The man arrived at Hawks' apartment and managed to not get sick in the elevator while making his way to the penthouse. ‘Of course Hawks has to live on the last floor of the tallest building in Musutafu’ he grumbled internally as he got out of the elevator. Dabi stumbled towards the door and used his key to enter.
Since it was about 3 in the morning, Hawks was asleep in the bedroom. The villain could hear his slow and regular breathing.
Instead of going to his boyfriend, he went to the bathroom to try to clean his wound, but it was obvious from the second the lights turned on and he took off his shirt that he was not going to make it. The hole was too big and there was blood everywhere. He could almost see parts of his rib cage.
Dabi stumbled back until he was pressed against the shower and tried to catch his breath but it only became worse and worse until he felt arms around him. He opened his eyes to see Hawks.
“Dabi, WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO”
“Accidents happen” he tried to answer without sounding too broken.
“You call that an accident!? Look, I can call someone to help and we could get you fixed.”
“No please, I don’t want to see anyone else. Can you just stay with me, please?” Dabi said in a small voice.
Hawks tried to add more but the dark haired man’s legs stopped holding up, so they sat on the bathroom floor. Hawks made sure to hold Dabi tight against him as they sat there in silence.
“I’m sorry” apologized Dabi after a while.
“What are you sorry for Hotstuff? You didn’t do anything wrong”
“I’m sorry for leaving you alone”
Hawks said nothing but readjusted his hold on him so that his boyfriend could be more comfortable.
Dabi was feeling more and more numb by the second, his breathing shallowed. He barely noticed when something wet hit his cheek. Hawks had started sobbing. “I love you” Dabi murmured and Hawks just sobbed harder.
The injured man closed his eyes and melted into his boyfriend’s embrace as he took his last breath.
Dabi had hurt all his life, but for once, he was comfortable with someone he loved.
