Chapter Text
You awoke to the sound of your alarm at the crisp hour of 5am. You yawn and stretch out to turn the alarm off.
“It’s that time again.” Your roommate Gabriela says to you as she adjusted her uniform in the mirror. She’s always been an early riser, whereas you were the type to roll out of bed in just enough time to be ready and make it to your duties.
“Ugh, 5 more minutes.” You moan as you pull your covers over your head.
“Come on, sleepy head.” Gabriela says and pulls the duvet from you, exposing you to the cold. You grunt in the process of moving to sit on the edge of your bed. You spend about 20 minutes getting ready for work, giving you just enough time to shove some food in you before you start your shift.
“Our lady awaits.” Gabriela teases you with a wink. She knows you’ve had a huge crush on the lady of the house for forever. You roll your eyes dramatically and laugh. You find it hard to believe not everyone had a crush on her. Lady Dimitrescu was nearing 10 feet tall, donning a cream dress and gigantic hat, both of which she never removed. Her height was intimating at first but once you got closer you noticed her amber coloured eyes and abundant laugh lines on her face. Not to mention she has the most massive boobs you’ve ever seen, which certainly do nothing to calm your impure thoughts.
“See ya.” You call to her as you walk away, preparing to start cleaning the library like everyday.
You’re coming to the end of your shift when the lady of the house enters the large but homely room. You stand up straight and put your hands behind your back, presenting yourself in the best way you could.
“Good afternoon, my Lady.” You say meekly with a small smile on your face, bowing your head slightly.
“Continue.” Is all Lady Dimitrescu says.
You nod and carry on with your cleaning. You finally finish cleaning the room and slowly make your way over to your Lady. She lowers her book to look at you and you notice she is reading an old looking copy of Carmilla, your favourite book and your heart skips a beat knowing you both share an interest. You were also sure she must be aware of the irony of her reading that said book but you chose to gloss over it.
“Yes, my dear?” She asks in her slow drawl that renders you useless for a few seconds every time she speaks.
You clear your throat. “I am done with my duties, my Lady. Is there anything else you require of me before I retire for the evening?”
“No, you may go. Thank you.” The tall woman tells you as her glance moves back to her book. You bow and go to leave the room.
You were always terrified of the stories you were told as a child of Castle Dimitrescu and the horrifying and intimidating countess who resided inside. When you discovered you were to be working as a maid in the aforementioned castle, you genuinely believed it would be the end of your life. However, you soon came to realise that although the Lady could be short tempered and without mercy, she would only react as such if the situation (or person) demanded it. If you did your job and kept your head down, she had no reason to mistreat you. In fact, she knew that we were more likely to go the extra mile if we were treated with kindness. She would then punish the few and far between who took advantage of that kindness, making examples of them.
As you were leaving, lost in thought, Lady Dimitrescu called to you.
“Y/n, dear?” You stop dead and spin on the spot to face her. Your heart beating in your ears.
“My Lady?”
“The usual girl who tends to me has been called away indefinitely. Would you attend to my needs instead?” You can’t breathe. You would be going to the lady’s chambers, helping her dress, among other things. You went into gay panic at the thought but of course you couldn’t refuse. Not that you wanted to anyway.
“Of course, my Lady.” You answered, attempting to flatten your tone as to not sound too eager. Yes, if you messed something up you were almost definitely going to get a way harsher punishment being her personal maid but it seemed worth it to be nearer her.
“Thank you. I shall see you in my chambers at 5am tomorrow. Do not be late.” She says and then goes back to her book. You bow again and finally leave the room. As soon as the door shuts behind you a breath you didn’t know you had been holding escapes you.
