Work Text:
The Gryffindor Common Room was peaceful on this Thursday evening. Dinner had ended just over an hour ago and a welcome sort of calm had washed over the usually excitable students. Many were sat around tables which were covered in papers and books on various subjects, leaving no part of the wooden surface visible. Most of the older students were sitting around the crackling fireplace, talking about exams and the upcoming quidditch matches whilst a few of the younger ones played games to pass the time. James (after six painstaking years) was still trying to charm Lily into dating him but her previously harsh rejections have become more fond as of late. Peter watched timidly from next to him as Evans once again turned down his advances.
Sirius observed all of these events from where he was sat in an armchair near the staircase to the boys dormitories. He was bored beyond belief and although Prongs’ antics with Lily could be amusing, he couldn’t help but feel something was missing. ‘Remus is missing’ his brain ever so helpfully supplied for him, as if he wasn’t already aware of that. Remus was upstairs in the dormitory, completing his homework where he wouldn’t be distracted by the other Marauder’s. Sirius could see his point since the last time Moony was doing work around them he had to rewrite his transfiguration assignment twice. Still, he couldn’t help but be a little offended.
Growing tired of the Common Room’s tranquility, Sirius rose from his seat and slipped away, unseen by the other students. He trudged his way upstairs until he reached the door their dorm and opened it slowly. Remus lifted his head at the sound and smiled briefly at Sirius before returning to his essay once more. He looked tense and drained - it was clear that he hadn’t taken time to rest in quite a while. Sirius frowned to himself, upset at seeing Moony so fatigued, and decided that he had to do something about it.
He crossed the room and started to gather up all of the papers. “What are you doing?” Remus queried with a slightly startled expression. Sirius smiled softly. “Forcing you to take a break,” he replied. “You’ve obviously been staring at this for ages and you look exhausted!” Remus sighed, relaxing and losing some of the tension that filled his body. “Thank you, Padfoot.”
Sirius sat down next to him and wrapped an arm around his waist in affection, tracing patterns on Remus’ skin through the fabric of his shirt. He continued this gesture until he noticed the other shaking silently. Leaning forward to get a better look at Moony’s face, Sirius realised that he was laughing. Brows furrowing in confusion, he sat back again and pondered what could have evoked such a reaction from Remus. He resumed his ministrations and continued to think until he was interrupted by a small laugh. Suddenly, it clicked for him.
“You’re ticklish!” Sirius exclaimed and Remus was quick to counter him. “No I’m not! What do you-“ He interrupted himself with a little shriek as Padfoot’s fingers travelled across his side again. “You are! I can’t believe this!” Remus went to deny it again but as he opened his mouth to speak, he was tackled by the other and pushed down into the mattress. Sirius swung his leg over Moony, effectively pinning him to the bed and preventing any escape. He lowered his hands to his waist and proceeded to tickle him. Remus let out gasping giggles as fingers danced up and down his sides, causing a wide smile to appear on Sirius’ face. A furious blush dusted his face as he laughed so hard it hurt. Padfoot continued to tickle him until he thought Moony might pass out from lack of oxygen. He looked down at Remus and couldn’t help his face from heating up at the sight. His hair (as short as it is) was fanned out around his face and his eyes glistened with mirth. Needless to say, he looked thoroughly disheveled. Seeing this, an intense feeling of desire shot through Sirius and he was struck with the sudden urge to kiss him.
This thought shocked him, to say the least. He’d imagined kissing Remus on a few occasions but had never actually wanted to do it so badly. Slowly, he began to move his arm up, towards Moony’s face. Sirius rested his palm against his cheek, shaking Remus out of whatever reverie he was in. Their eyes made contact and Padfoot prayed to whatever higher being was out there that he wasn’t going to lose one of his best friends for his next actions. He began to lean forward gradually, giving Remus plenty of time to back out as he closed the distance between them. As their lips pressed together, he breathed in sharply and worried if he had made a horrible mistake. But when he felt Remus tentatively kiss him back, the unease and apprehension vanished without a trace. Sirius felt arms snake around his neck as they stayed close to each other. The kiss stayed sweet and innocent but that didn’t bother them, they didn’t want to push the other too far yet. As they finally pulled apart, Padfoot rested his forehead against Remus’ in quiet contentment. Their breathing was the only sound to be heard in the silent dorm as they both processed what had just happened between them.
“So…” Sirius started, unsure of what to say, “that happened.”
Remus chuckled beneath him, “Yes it did.”
“Are you upset about it?”
“Not at all,” Remus replied softly, “are you?”
“No,” Sirius said immediately, “but… what does this mean for us now?”
Remus though about it for a minute before responding with, “I’m not entirely sure. However, I think we both agree that what just happened was a pleasant experience for both of us,” Sirius smiled slightly and nodded, “so perhaps we should give this a try, the kissing and romantic kind of relationship?” Sirius’ smile grew much wider at that. “I would like that,” he agreed before angling his head to kiss Remus once again, who responded in kind.
This wasn’t exactly what Sirius expected to happen when he entered the dorm room earlier but the outcome was better that he could have possibly imagined.
