Chapter Text

3 May, Debreczin

My dear Ochako wanted me to get into the habit of writing down information other than quirk analysis. She said that while she adored my habit of "scribbling down every little quirk to be seen", it would also be useful to take a break from analysing one thing. She suggested I keep a journal of my life and thoughts, and so she bought me this little book.I am beginning this journal to document a case that I am involved in, with my mentor Toshinori Yagi.

We had trouble in earlier years with selfish people who called themselves heroes: they would do good deeds in public, but behind the scenes, they would extort money and favours from the people they had saved. Eventually law enforcement discovered this and shut down all heroism.

That was about sixty years ago. Unfortunately for law enforcement, the self proclaimed heroes had in fact kept worse people from emerging. These worser people, the public called villains. So what were the police to do? Well, they instituted what we call vigilantes.

My mentor, Toshinori Yagi is a retired vigilante who went by the name of All Might in his earlier years. Contrary to popular belief, he is quirkless, and in his vigilante work relied on his many connections, charismatic nature, and quick wit to complete a job. Unfortunately, in one particularly strenuous job, he had a run in with an incredibly overpowered villain.  This villain had made it his life’s work to overthrow Toshinori-sensei, due to an unknown past grudge. Thus, in this particular instance, it was Toshinori-sensei being the one targeted, and not the villain.

It resulted in a number of casualties that could not have been prevented. The police decided, in light of this great misfortune, to ask the vigilante All Might to retire. Spurred by a young Iida Tenya, they told him that they were grateful for his assistance over the years. Because he had become a target, and because the public backlash was likely, it was most beneficial that Toshinori-sensei retire. He partially complied with the police request, choosing to investigate cases and investigate on police behalf. In this way, they might better apprehend and convict villains.

My relationship with Toshinori-sensei is one of teacher and student. I wish to become a vigilante just like Toshinori-sensei,  so that I might help as many people as I can! I met him while he was tracking a villian, and he discovered that I had accidentally acquired valuable information on the case, and invited me to work with him. He later took me on as an apprentice of sorts, and even now I still work with him. I think that gathering information on these criminals will help me as a vigilante, and Toshinori-sensei agrees.

Our current case concerns a murderer by the name of Monoma Neito.  We have information about his crime, but not his past or his current whereabouts. I am seeking a former acquaintance of Toshinori-sensei's, by the name of Enji Todoroki, with the vigilante name of Endeavor. Toshinori-sensei says that Endeavor might be able to apprehend Monoma more efficiently. Unfortunately, we have no idea where he is. There were rumours that he was seen in Borlovan, so I will be travelling there. It is a long and arduous trip, but it is necessary. I'll leave off for now, my coach is here.

This drive is so incredibly long! I am having to resist the urge to ask the driver to stop so I can stretch my legs. I do however have the most lovely scenery to gaze upon during the trip. It is such a different environment here, much denser forests than in England, mountains and different weather too. I wonder if I can find good food… and lodging…

…..There will probably be a language barrier too...

I'm overwhelmed! I know Toshinori-sensei wishes for me to attend to this affair, but it's really between him and Endeavor, and I don't know if it's best that I butt in! Besides, he made Endeavor out to be rather frightening.

I am sorry to be ending this entry on such a dour note, but my carriage has arrived on the outskirts of Reton. I will be continuing on foot from here, seeking lodging.
