Lucy doesn’t know what she’s doing standing outside Kate’s apartment. After going for a couple of drinks with Kai, Lucy had left the bar and ordered a car to drive her over to Kate’s. Lucy was now standing outside her door unable to move, and not knowing what she was Lucy took a deep breath and raised her hand to the door.

*knock knock*

Lucy, heard movement from inside the apartment and in a panic turned to leave the hallway. Lucy took a few steps away when she heard the door unlock and open.
“Lucy?”, Kate calls, rubbing her hands over her eyes. “What are you doing here?”
“Ummm, oh well I was in the neighborhood and was wondering if we could talk about some stuff” Lucy replies.
“Stuff?”, Kate responds with a quirk of an eyebrow.
“Yeah stuff”, Lucy states as she pushed past Kate, walking straight into the kitchen and grabbing the whiskey.
“Are you drunk?”, Kate asks with a whisper.
“No, god no. I am not drunk, yes I have been drinking but I am not even tipsy. You wanted to explain and I understand that. I will listen to you but can I get this out first”, Lucy says staring at the glass of whiskey she had poured.
“Yes…”, Kate says nervously. Wringing her hands together and sitting up on a stool, looking forward towards Lucy. “Go for it.”, Kate says with a small, nervous smile.
“Ok well I have been going over some stuff in my head. About us and our relationship, and I am just honestly so confused. We have been together for a few months, I know you might be thinking well ‘not exclusively’ but we were together. No?” Lucy asks, and sees Kate give her a slight nod of her head, showing she agreed with Lucy.
“Well that is what I don’t understand ok. You and I, we had something and when I keep going over what happened between us I am really confused. You had so many opportunities to tell me about Cara, and you know it would’ve been so much easier to tell me earlier on. Like we restarted something, so not only was I your side piece, I was your side piece two separate times.” Lucy states raising two fingers in the air.
“Well!” Kate states.
“No, sorry Whistler I am on a roll now.”, Lucy says continuing her rambling.
“Do you not think that you could’ve told me about Cara. Like I’ve been going over every interaction between us and my brain keeps going back to one thing. When I asked to be intimate with you when we were researching together wrong words I know but you knew what I meant. Do you not think explaining what happened between you and Cara then was perfect?”, Lucy asks exasperated.
Kate’s eyes begin to tear up. “I know, I know I have messed up but honestly I just thought hiding it was the best option. Lucy I lo- like you so much, so much more than I had ever thought I would and I couldn’t risk letting you go.” Kate says almost fumbling her words.
“I just didn’t know what to do ok? You are so much more than I had ever though you would be, or even become. I know, that I messed up I do. But given the opportunity, I won’t mess up again. I promise. Please just take another chance on me.”, Kate says staring directly into Lucy’s eyes.
Lucy wipes away her tears that had formed during Kates speech. Lucy grabs the glass of whiskey and knocks it back quickly.
“Another thing I don’t understand…”, Lucy whispers. “You ghosted her? Really Whistler? No one deserves that. Not only did you ghost her, it was a failed attempt at ghosting. How did you even manage that?”, Lucy asks bringing her hands up to her temples.
Before Kate even opens her mouth to respond, Lucy asks the question that has burning into her brain. “Would you have ghosted me?”, Lucy asks. Looking directly into Kate’s eyes.
“No, I would never do that to you. You matter too much to me!”, Kate says exasperated with Lucy’s question.
“So, did Cara just not matter at all? Like you were with her longer so did you always plan to ghost her or was that something you thought of last minute?”, Lucy asks confused.
Kate shakes her head immediately, “No. It wasn’t planned we hadn’t been happy for months and Cara just wasn’t accepting it. And then the job opportunity came up in Hawai’i I jumped on the chance to get out and leave”, Kate says rubbing at her eyes.
Lucy crosses her arms, and looks at her. “I want to try again. Take a chance on us but it means complete transparency, I have even more questions to ask about this situation but I just can’t think properly, but you and I will be exclusive. But we will be starting ok? Just one last time.” Lucy states.
“And that is that, Kate Whistler.” Lucy says with a small smile.
“Really?”, Kate asks, smiling widely. Standing abruptly and moving towards Lucy.
“Yes, really”, Lucy responds, smiling at her. “But this is it, do you hear me Whistler. Lucy Tara is no side piece.” Lucy states seriously.
Kate nervously smiles, “So, it is 2am. Do you want to stay over? The bed is always comfier with you in it.”
“What kind of woman do you think I am Whistler?”, Lucy says with a giggle. “This women does not put out in a relationship without a first date.”
“But…?”, Kate says confused.
“We are starting over Whistler. This is a chance to start over again, and you are important to me. So I would like to start over, from the start… Is that ok?”, Lucy says, nervously gripping on the front of Kate’s t-shirt.
Kate smiles. “Are you busy tomorrow?” she asks. “Because the sooner we go on a date, the better.”, Kate says with a grin.
“Yes, I am free. After work? Meet you in the carpark?”, Lucy says excited to start again.
“No, I will see you at your desk.” Kate says, smiling.
“I can’t wait, to see you tomorrow”, Lucy says. “But I should go because it is late and I have an important first date to prepare for.” Lucy says, letting go of Kate’s top and wiggling her brows.
Walking towards the door together their hands touch, they share a smile. Kate opens the door up excited for tomorrow.
“So I will see you tomorrow?”, Lucy says smiling.
“I will be counting down the minutes”, Kate says. “So can a pre date relationship hug?”, she asks with a cheeky grin.
“Hmmmm, I think I can let that slide.” Lucy says moving into Kates arms.
They both hold onto each other tight, releasing deep breaths they had both been holding. Letting go, they share a smile.
“Goodnight Whistler”, Lucy says.
“Goodnight Lucy”, Whistler says smiling, watching Lucy walk down the hall.
