You loved hanging out with your best friend, Levi. Time spent with him was fun regardless of whatever you were doing, as long as it was together. Even days where your mood was much more lowkey, Levi always had a way of making you feel excited and comforted just by his presence. All the other demons in House of Lamentation were always spending your energy, despite how much you genuinely cared for them.
With Levi, your social battery was never drained. You loved that about him. You loved him. Wait, what.
You sat there, watching Levi, a blush slowly creeping on your face as a result of your own musings. He was playing one of his single player RPG’s and telling you all the details about what stats are buffed with each weapon, or which characters work best with each other. And there you were, hopelessly in love with him. This was news to you, but something just clicked. Figuring out you loved someone always felt like it would happen in some grand reveal, or maybe that was the way it felt in all the anime’s you and Levi watched together.
Regardless, this new information left you a little stunned as your purple haired demon continued his ramblings. “This character is a total tsun~ which makes her the cutest! She’s my most powerful unit, too! I spent hours grinding the parents to get the right skill combo to pass onto her and-” Levi’s eyes drifted onto you, watching as your eyes fluttered gently as you listened to him speak, the way you unconsciously bit your lips and puffed your cheeks. He lightly coughed, looking away, slightly embarrassed by how adorable you looked. He could usually tell when you were zoning out, but he never called you out on it. Why would he? You were sitting so pretty listening to him.
Out of everyone you could spend your time with, you’re spending it with him. He didn’t care really if you paid attention to him. Well… that was not necessarily true. He knew you could always have something better to do, yet you still stayed with him. To Levi, that was all he could ask for, despite the burning desire for you to never leave him, and never wanting to share you with his brothers.
He bit his lip to conceal his growing smile, scared that any enjoyment he gets is bound to be taken away at a moment's notice. Figuring that it was enough gaming for today, Levi closed his DS and pulled out his D.D.D. Next time he would hand you the game and watch you play. After all, he never minded teaching you.
The soft thud of Levi’s console closing brought you back into the moment. Your face was still burning, but you managed to cool yourself off by palming the porcelain of Levi’s bathtub. Your eyes shifted over to watch the demon. He was biting his lip. Maybe he caught you?
“S-Sorry, Levi.” You mutter, scratching your cheek as you lean over the rim of the tub. “I got a bit distracted. That game seems a bit complicated for me.” You hide your face from him, worried that he was upset with you for dismissing him.
“Actually, it was designed for beginners, since the series was on the rocks before, so they needed a lot of newcomers,” He caught your burning gaze and it shot right through him. As his voice got quieter, he noted that the vibe was different. Something changed. Maybe it was him. “B-But, yeah. Anyways… We could just… uhm. Oh! Wanna take some DevilFeed Quizzes?”
Your worry naturally disappeared as you smiled and perked up at the suggestion. You nod enthusiastically as you pull up the website. Both of you enjoyed taking these personality or knowledge quizzes. It required no effort and always provided a dose of dopamine to your brains. “Did you see the new party feature,” You gush towards Levi. “We can take the same one at the same time!”
The air in the room feels lighter as you and the otaku find yourselves laughing at the frivolous quizzes. You both catch each other's gaze, or give accidental touches, and it sends sparks flying through both of you. The results of the quizzes always make you laugh, as it never seems accurate.
“Let's try this one..! ‘What character trope in anime are you?' It has Ruri-chan in the main picture!” You nod and laugh as you see the light bounce around in the demon's eyes. You both start clicking and end up at the results.
“YESSS. OMG.” Levi yells, “I GOT MAIN CHARACTER! Look, look! I got Ruri-chan!” He triumphantly rises from his bathtub and shows you the GIF of Ruri-chan spinning. He laughs and waits for you to share.
“I.. don’t think mine’s accurate.” You sigh, “I mean, no one would want me as a love interest.” Your musings of self doubt ring in Levi’s ears. His stomach twists as he watches you slowly dive into the pool of doubt. He, out of everyone, knows when your mind switches into that mode. He hates watching you go there. Only he should be the one to feel so bad. He noticed that this happens to you often. You often are more lighthearted and joking about your self depreciation, but it still pains Levi to hear it.
“It’s just… kinda weird, right? I’ve never seen a love interest that looks like me, anyways. I’m more of a comic relief-” There it is. It begins, your words ring true in your ears, only because you’ve deluded yourself into believing it. Your eyes lower and the pain embedded in your words almost slips past Levi. You tried to be light hearted about these quizzes, but sometimes it was hard to accept that reality was different and people saw you differently.
“I-I would…”
Your heart does a backflip. Was Levi trying to say what you think he’s trying to say? “Uhm. You would…?” Your voice drifts off, begging and hoping for more clarity from the demon boy of your dreams.
“I… I would…. Uhm. want you… a-as a love interest.” Levi’s hands twiddle and he sinks back into the tub. His eyes carefully dart to look at you, and then away, unable to make up his mind on where to look. If your eyes meet, he was unsure if he could muster the strength to continue this confession.
You stay silent for a moment. Unsure as to believe what you’re hearing. You clear your throat, trying to muster up a reply. “...Levi? Do you mean that?” Your eyes peer over at him. It’s as if Levi can here the pain and worry in your voice because he managed to make eye contact with you. He breathes in heavily.
“OF COURSE,” he unintentionally yells at you, “UHM. Sorry. Of course. Y-you’re amazing. I’d be a weird main character, too. S-so maybe you wouldn’t want me either?” Levi spews his thoughts and his heart at you. He lost his filter ages ago, but he trusted you and knew you wouldn’t make fun of him for anything he said.
“I want you!” You lean over the tub, face flushed and a bit embarrassed at how needy you sounded. “I really want you, Levi.”
The silence washed over the both of you. Moments felt like an eternity for the both of you as neither of you really knew what this meant. Eventually, Levi spoke up, “Can I… Can I kiss you?”
