Chapter Text
“so who are they?” hoseok asked as he held the polaroid that fell out of yoongi’s notebook.
the older one looked at hoseok with a confused look on his face until he saw the polaroid hoseok was holding.
“hoseok, give it back to me.” yoongi said with faux anger as he quickly got up to take his photo back but hoseok beat him to that as the business major had quick reflexes.
“not until you tell me who they are.” hoseok said as he was trying to keep the photo out of yoongi’s reach. within seconds yoongi was chasing hoseok in their dorm room. yoongi had managed to trap hoseok in between his arms but he couldn't reach the polaroid hoseok was holding high in the air. they were both in between their little fight in the middle of their living room when the door of their dorm opened and namjoon came inside, books in his hands like usual. hoseok quickly detached himself from yoongi and went to his boyfriend. he gave a quick peck on namjoon’s lips making yoongi groan at the couple being gross and dramatically threw himself on a bean bag nearby.
the couple took a seat on the couch and hoseok showed namjoon the polaroid.
“who are they?” namjoon asked, looking between hoseok and yoongi.
“hyung won’t tell me.” hoseok said with a sad pout on his face.
yoongi groaned and got out of the bean bag. he walked towards the couple and took the polaroid from namjoon’s hand who didn’t protest like hoseok.
“he is just a childhood friend. or more like he was a childhood friend.” yoongi said as he looked at the polaroid of a fourteen year old yoongi and his childhood friend smiling from ear to ear with a bittersweet smile.
“was?.” namjoon asked while raising an eyebrow in curiosity.
“he moved far away from me when we were fourteen as his father got transferred to another city. we were neighbors back then. this was a polaroid taken by my hyung the night before he was moving out. geumjae hyung had caught us sneaking to our joint terrace to count the stars.” yoongi said with a blissful smile on his face as the bittersweet memory of that day flashed in his mind.
“so you are in love with him?” hoseok asked and it caught yoongi off guard.
“what? no!” yoongi shouted. “he is just a childhood friend.”
“hyung, how many polaroids of your childhood friends do you carry in your notebooks?” hoseok asked.
yoongi’s cheeks flushed a light shade of pink and he tried to answer to hoseok but non-coherent words came out of his mouth.
“yeah, so you are in love with him.” hoseok said.
“i am not!” yoongi shouted and there started a verbal fight of ‘you are’ and ‘m not’.
“do you know where he is right now?” namjoon asked.
“my parents told me his family is in seoul right now.” yoongi said as he shrugged.
“so you are trying to find him as you both are in the same city now.” hoseok said.
“no, i am not trying to find him. if we are destined to meet, we will meet.” yoongi said in a dreamy voice.
“if we are destined, we will meet.” hoseok mocked yoongi. “if this is how you plan to meet your childhood crush then you are never meeting him in this life, hyung.”
yoongi started chasing hoseok in the living room again while namjoon sat on the couch looking at his idiot in love hyung and the idiot he is in love with. when the two were gasping for breathe, they collapsed on the places they were initially sitting at.
namjoon thought it was a perfect opportunity to ask his hyung about the name of the other teenager in the photo.
“jin. jin hyung to be specific, he would always remind me that he is my hyung. we are only three months apart but he would get all pouty if i didn’t call him hyung.” yoongi said with a light chuckle.
“pretty sure there are a lot of jin in this world, hyung. dojin, dongjin, hojin, hyungjin, hyunjin, jinho, jinhyuk, jinwoong, kwangjin, kyungjin, kyujin-”
“seokjin. kim seokjin.” yoongi said, before hoseok listed all the combinations of names with jin.
the rest of the day went with hoseok pestering yoongi to tell them about seokjin. yoongi would be lying if he said he didn’t like talking about seokjin. reminiscing his childhood memories with seokjin was probably the best part of his day. when he was about to drift to the dreamland he thought if he would ever meet seokjin again, what would he be like, will he recognize him, was he still that clumsy guy who loved dad jokes and most importantly what would they do if they meet one day. he has many questions and all the answers are with seokjin.
___
it had almost been two weeks since the roommates had first talked about seokjin. hoseok would pop out the topic of seokjin in between.
yoongi had always hoped to meet seokjin but he never thought he would actually meet him. he never thought he would see him on a random tuesday evening in the frozen meat section.
yoongi despises how seokjin is very recognizable even after eight years of them being apart. it’s not like the older one still looks the same but he still has those quirky features that made him easily distinguishable. those broad shoulders which yoongi didn’t think would get any broad when they were fourteen or that against-the-law handsome face. yoongi swore that the seokjin standing in front of the frozen fish section looked younger than the fourteen year old seokjin.
seokjin had changed a bit. he would always wear his pink hoodie collection to the grocery stores but right now the older one is wearing a white tee with flannel shirt and blue jeans. probably seokjin just grew out of that ‘pink looks good on me and no one can stop me from wearing it’ teenage phase.
ever since seokjin came into his sight yoongi had forgotten what he was doing there in the first place. he was staring at seokjin until he heard hoseok shouting his name from across the shop.
“yoongi hyung, did you get the beef?” hoseok shouted which made yoongi look in the direction of the voice. he saw hoseok and namjoon coming in his direction with a cart full of groceries.
“uh, n-no. i am getting it right now.” yoongi stuttered and turned around at the frozen meat section without sparing a look towards seokjin and started picking out some packets of beef. yoongi’s picked around 8 packets of different cuts of beef. hoseok and namjoon were by his side by the time he had picked the packets. hoseok was pushing the cart while namjoon was busy on his phone striking items off the grocery list. yoongi turned around to put the beef packets in the cart hoseok was pushing but two of the packets fell from his hand. yoongi quickly bent down and picked them up. when he securely put them back in the cart and was about to leave the section he heard a familiar honey voice calling his name.
“yoongi? min yoongi?” yoongi heard a honey voice from behind him. yoongi had his back towards the person who just called out his name but he knew it was seokjin, yoongi would never go wrong recognizing seokjin or his voice. hoseok, who was facing yoongi and also seokjin, nudged namjoon and whispered, “the polaroid guy.” yoongi inaudibly cursed hoseok under his breath and just wished the person behind him didn’t hear the younger. yoongi turned back and seokjin was standing a few inches away from him. he has become taller than before and the height gap between them had widened even more, it was making yoongi look smaller.
“se-seokjin.” yoongi said, blinking his eyes rapidly because he thought he would go blind if he stared at him.
seokjin scoffed at yoongi and said, “it is jin hyung for you.”
yoongi rolled his eyes but there was a smile on his face. “i am younger than you by only three month, hyung.”
“but i am still your hyung.” seokjin snickered.
yoongi would bet a hundred thousand dollars right now that hoseok was thinking that seokjin has a hyung kink.
yoongi and seokjin were standing awkwardly in front of each other, unaware of what to say because neither of them wanted to bid goodbye. yoongi wasn’t looking at seokjin, he was nervously playing with this hands while seokjin was looking at the younger one with a small smile on his face. seokjin looked up and noticed the two boys standing behind yoongi.
“your friends?” seokjin asked, pointing towards hoseok and namjoon and making yoongi look behind him.
“yes, they both are my roommates. the bigger one is namjoon, a literature major in my university and the shorter one is hoseok, a business major.” yoongi said as he pointed at the person he was introducing.
“i am taller than you.” hoseok scoffed at yoongi’s back, making seokjin laugh. his signature windshield wiper laugh that yoongi couldn’t get enough of.
when seokjin had calmed down from laughing, he asked, “when did you join university? how long have you been in seoul?”
“i have been here from past year. i got into yonsei university for instrumental music.” yoongi said, proudly.
“oh my god! i am so happy for you. you’ve always wanted to pursue music.” seokjin said, happily as his whole body bounced. seokjin took a pause from being happy and said, “wait, you’re telling me you have been here for an entire year of your course but you didn’t pay visit to me? not even once in an entire year? min yoongi, you have to make up for this. i am taking you with me right now.”
“hyung,” yoongi whined, “i can’t come right now. we have to go back to the dorm before midnight.”
“then tell me when can you come visit me?” seokjin asked with a pout.
“how about sunday?” yoongi asked. “we get an entire day off on a sunday. i can visit you then, if you and your parents don’t have any other plans.”
“of course, we don’t have any plans.” seokjin said with a smile that reached his ears.
___
lying in the bed right now yoongi thought that the things happened today were just his wild imagination. him meeting seokjin, the older one recognizing him, them planning to meet the kims on sunday and exchanging phone numbers when yoongi, seokjin and the couple (long forgotten) were in the parking lot. yoongi picked up his phone from the night stand and searched in his contacts ‘jin hyung’ and the number was actually there to prove him that he really met seokjin, his first crush. yoongi probably ain’t sleeping tonight but it’s nothing two shots of espresso can’t solve.
