Work Text:
Monday
Rey woke up, the whole weight of the weekend and the night starting to weigh on her chest.
She turned to Finn, comfortably sleeping next to her. She smiled while caressing his cheek. Part of her wished sleep came that easy to her.
She got up, fishing one of his work shirts from the closet. After getting half dressed, she made her way to the kitchen, quiet enough not to wake him up. The microwave read "7:02". The day was just beginning. There was a pang of sadness at this hour, specially the last days. The promise of the day intertwined with the heaviness of work, specially now. She brushed off those concerns setting up coffee. Two and a half cups, one for her, the rest for him. Rey sat at the sofa, turning to the window while the soft noises from the machine cut the total silence. The street was already filling up with cars, people walking to work or school. Soon it would be her turn. "No matter how much I love it-" She thought. "It's difficult to keep up."
She sighed silently, as she heard footsteps.
Finn was just outside the little hallway, wearing pajama pants.
"Morning, sunshine." He said, smiling softly.
"Morning." She replied, not quite matching his smile.
Finn stopped in his tracks. "Is something the matter?"
"Yeah... Well no. Sort of."
Finn walked up and sat next to her. He remained silent.
"I'm fine, I'm just... tired, if that makes sense?"
"Tired of?"
She turned, and kissed him on the lips. "I'm just, drained I suppose. I didn't sleep great, and all week I've felt uneasy." She paused. "It's work, I'm just really feeling burnt out."
He leaned on her, hand on hers. "I'm sorry babe." He kissed her on the shoulder.
"It's just work, don't worry. Going to work today just feels..."
"Heavy." He replied.
"Yeah. Uh..." She turned to look at him.
A sad smile was etched on Finn's lips. "I understand. Work feels so much heavier now for me as well."
"Sorry." She said, part of her relieved by him understanding, and another part of her saddened by having him in the same boat. "I don't know." She said. "Maybe over the weekend I'll get the chance to rest up, but waiting till then... It's as if the days somehow were longer. Sluggish." She replied.
Finn looked at her, her gaze lost. He leaned in for a kiss, which she tenderly returned.
"We'll find a way to make it better. Just... got to catch a second wind I guess."
She smiled at that, yet inside she wasn't sure how that would be possible.
"Come by after work? I'll make dinner."
Rey nodded. "I'd like that."
-
Work had been hell on her.
Rey went into her apartment, flinging her bag on the sofa, and slamming the door shut. Her back was aching and there was a small cut on her left hand.
In a moment, she was washing her face, wiping the day away with hot water. At least it was night, and the next day would be calmer. At least she hoped to hell it would be.
-
When Finn opened the door for her, he wore that same grimace she was.
"Hey." He said in a dry voice.
"Hi." She kissed him tenderly on the lips. "You ok?"
"Yeah." It was a tired, but ultimately resigned "Yeah." "It was a day."
"For me too." She said. A feeling told her the night wouldn't be what she expected.
The table was set, with a large bag of takeout at the center.
"I'm sorry." Finn said. "There was a call I just could not get rid of. It came in right as I was starting to cook."
"It's fine!" She said, trying to get her tone to be a little more comforting. "I can't blame you." She caressed his cheek.
"Next time, yeah?" He replied, kissing her hand. His eyes turned to her cut. "Hey, what happened?"
She smiled awkwardly. "Workshop. I was working on an engine and got careless. It's not even deep."
Finn kissed the cut. "Sorry."
"It's no problem. One of those things."
He sighed.
"I mean if you want a homemade dinner I can still-"
"Finn."
They looked at each other.
"Finn, today has been very long on both our ends. I'm not going to blame you for that. And I thought it was very sweet of you to offer to make dinner." She smiled with sympathy, and a bit of relief, for the first time that day.
He nodded. "Thanks Rey."
"Shall we?" She said, taking her seat.
"Please! I got you those rangoon you like so much."
"Yes!"
-
They had put on an older sitcom, and watched while curled up in the couch. Finn had brought a blanket for them both.
About halfway into the show they were quiet, but not out of boredom. Rey turned to him, giving him a look, yet was surprised when she saw his eyes closed.
"Dang it." She thought to herself, thinking that the night would have a bit more of fun before going to sleep.
Rey decided to watch the rest of the episode, silently hoping that he would wake up, but understanding his tiredness.
Credits rolled, not a sound from Finn yet.
Her fingers ran along his hair. "Babe."
"Hmm?" He answered, eyes still shut.
"Babe you fell asleep."
"Sorry."
Rey laughed.
"It's not that, it's that we're on your sofa."
"Oh." He said, groggily opening his eyes.
She kissed him.
"Thank you for dinner."
"Anytime."
"I should go."
"You can stay, just lemme wash up and go to bed."
"No, it's ok." She grimaced. "I have an early day tomorrow anyways."
"Sorry babe."
"It's fine. You get to bed, okay? I'll see you tomorrow." She finished off with a kiss to his lips.
"Good night."
-
Finn brushed his teeth, and washed his face. A pang of guilt struck him. He knew it was unreasonable to apologize for something he had no control over. And he realistically knew Rey was not cross at him. Nevertheless, that was him sometimes.
He splashed more water on his face, silently wishing that tomorrow was better.
Tuesday
Breakfast, calls, and three documents he could barely focus on. Finn cursed his luck at having two coworkers call in sick. It was up to him to pick up the slack, and he did not enjoy it in the slightest. Words became less and less legible, and names were all a clutter of letters in his head.
"The code was..." He spaced out for a moment. "Code is..." It was about time he got up. He got up, stretching and hearing a pop come from his back, and his shoulder. "Yeesh." He thought to himself while walking to the kitchen.
Idly, he wondered how Rey was doing at the shop.
-
Rey had talked to the bike's owner for way more than she intended. Every time it seemed he was about to finish the unending list of fixes he wanted, a new one seemed to appear. He cursed outloud when given an estimate, but when it looked like he was about to say something in protest, their eyes met. She wasn't quite sure what her expression read, but it seemed to quiet him up.
-
Her tools were neatly arranged in the workbench, and her sleeves were folded back. She went over the list again. A quick ringtone blared from her phone, and she smiled when she heard it was his tone.
"Morning. Sorry about yesterday." She winced. Finn had a way to get into his head. She didn't mind as much as it might have seemed, but alas he was the type to worry. The message continued. "In any case, I hope today is better. See you when I see you."
"Thanks babe." She replied. "I didn't really mind, but I was fucking tired. Thank you either way" Smiley face.
She pressed send.
For a moment she stopped, reading that her message was delivered. A smile grew on her face, as she continued to write. "And maybe we can cook together next time?"
Sent.
She sighed wistfully, and left her phone on the table.
-
Her gloves were covered in oil, and her fingers ached. The fixes on the engine were not a big problem, but it was dirty as hell. She began to wonder if this bike had ever been serviced. Maybe the owner needed a reminder when he came around, although the last thing she wanted was another long conversation about engines and maintenance. At that point, she only wanted to go home.
-
Finn stretched, making circles with his head, releasing some of the pent up tension of the day. Finally the work day was over. He tried not to think about the rest of the week. Something was giving management hell, and apparently that sent ripples through the company. He sat in his sofa with a tall glass of soda, and decided to watch whatever felt familiar. That came in the form of a crime drama.
-
During a brief car chase scene, which ended in a bloody mess, his phone beeped. For a split second he jumped, imagining some new emergency at work, but he realized that the tone wasn't that at all.
He opened Rey's message, to a photo of a newly opened book.
"It finally arrived!"
He smiled. She had mentioned being very into a sci-fi novel at the moment, and after devouring the first one, she instantly ordered the sequel.
"Awesome!" He replied.
"Remind me to lend you the first one soon."
"I'd like that."
The rest of his night went by quietly. Cooking dinner, continuing his show, reading a little. It was a breather.
Wednesday
It was another long day. Rey was applying the finishing touches on the bike. Tomorrow she'd give it a once over and luckily that'd be the end of it.
Her phone rang, his photo and name on the screen.
"Hey" She answered.
"Hi Rey."
"What's up?"
"Not much. I was going to get takeout, do you want anything?"
"Uh-"
"Wait do you have dinner plans?"
She laughed. "No, but I'm still at the shop."
"Wait, for real?"
"Yeah? I mean it's only-" She looked at her phone's screen. "Oh fuck."
Finn laughed a little. "Time flies when you're having fun, eh?"
"Har har. Well shit, if you hadn't called I'd have stayed here till midnight."
"No kidding. I'm just ordering now though, if you want to have dinner here it would probably arrive at the same time as you do."
"Are you saying I'm not going to run every light for dinner?"
"Do not do that." He said.
"What're you having?"
-
She knocked rapidly at the door. "Is dinner here yet?"
"Yes."
"Fuck!" She exclaimed, as Finn greeted her with a kiss. "I was so sure I'd beat it."
"If we had ordered something else, maybe. You know pizza places."
"Next time."
They sat and ate together, making small talk about their day. Finn had a meeting early Friday, but the silver lining was that if everything went right he'd have most of the afternoon off. Rey was excited about finishing up the bike the day after. Luckily Friday would also go relatively calmly for her as well.
-
They kissed goodnight. Both of them were spent, but glad to have spent dinner together.
As Rey walked away, Finn felt the words form in his throat, but decided to hold on.
He closed the door. Even if she was up for it, he was too tired to mess around. Next time.
-
He woke up. It was still dark, and it was quiet outside. His fingers tapped at the phone. 3:13.
"Shit." He said to himself, feeling wide awake.
A moment later, Finn was in the kitchen pouring ice into a glass, which was promptly filled with water. He drank slowly. Distant sounds from the city were all that filled the air.
He went to his office. Finn had turned his study into an impromptu office. There was also a sofa that opened up into a bed, in case he had any visits. He got a book from the bookcase by the desk, and sat down. It was a collection of horror stories by various authors. Even if he knew every story by heart, he figured he'd tire himself a bit more before attempting to sleep again.
After digging into half of a short story, he realized he was barely paying attention to it. His mind circled back to worrying. Finn drank slowly, closing his eyes. The cold went into him, and he focused on that sensation rather than the anxious nerves forming at the edge of his spine. Breathing in, and breathing out. He put the book down, and walked back to the kitchen to refill his glass.
While Finn wasn't sure what got him awake, he was sure that it might last a bit longer than expected.
He circled back to the sofa, turning on the TV. He wasn't really looking for anything to entertain him, rather something to quiet his mind. While many memories of lessons imparted by his therapist came to him, the work to be less anxious felt just draining at that moment. After a moment, he picked a random film that he had watched before. A slow, moody thriller felt right. The nerves at his back were vanishing, ever so slowly.
The door, silent and dark, got his attention. For a moment, Finn wished to hear that same knock she always did.
It felt as if the night, quiet and calm as it was, would be perfect to spend along Rey. Now he almost wished to hear her text tone.
"Are you up?"
And after that, he wouldn't be alone, and he'd be there for her. Even if he avoided thinking about sex right then, Finn could not help but fantasize. Maybe she'd knock at the door in an instant, and greet him with that same look she always when she was riled up. He'd take her to the bedroom, and make her feel good. He imagined her gaze as he'd seen it so many times. Passionate, excited, wild.
Maybe.
But not tonight.
Finn went to bed, tiredness catching up to him. The quiet sounds of the city lulled him to sleep before he realized it, his last thoughts being of her.
Thursday
Rey knocked on his door.
In a moment, he was there, looking at her. It was written all over her face: It had been another shitty day.
"Can I come in?" She asked.
He let her in, and she made a beeline for the kitchen.
"What's wrong?"
Rey got a beer from the fridge, taking a long gulp. Finn took cautious steps towards her. But their eyes didn't meet right then. She was looking down.
"Okay." He said, gently grabbing her shoulders.
She cursed under her breath.
Silence.
"The client from the other day, the talkative one. He just threw a fit about how if his bike was ready so quickly then we probably hadn't done much work. I showed him that everything was fixed and set as he specified. But he wasn't having it, and demanded we gave it back as it was."
"No way." He looked at her as if she was going to break.
"Yeah. I didn't blow up at him, but I was very close to." She sighed.
"Kudos to you. What a dickhead."
She hugged him.
"I have tomorrow off at least. And then the whole weekend, thankfully."
He held her close, kissing her on the cheek. "You deserve it. Hell you deserve the month off."
They remained close for another moment, both of them eager for the next day. Sadly, Finn had another early meeting. Nonetheless, they enjoyed the moment, and the quiet, and held each other close, until they fell asleep.
Friday
This time it was Finn who got up earlier. He looked at his phone, 10 minutes until the alarm came on. He switched it off and put on pants. Rey was still deeply asleep. He hated having to get up and not spend the morning with her. Specially like this. Silence felt like a sweet comfort when they were together. Her words from the other day echoed in his mind.
He got up and prepared a quick breakfast, along the usual coffee. The clock read 7:43. The meeting was about to start. It was one of those times that Finn appreciated remote work. However, he had the feeling that the whole thing may have been fixed in a couple emails. Typical.
Finn ate quickly, rushing to the kitchen to leave them in the sink, and get his coffee for the meeting.
Cup in hand, he marched back to the office, but first decided to check on Rey. Still asleep. Thoughts of calling in sick raced through his mind. To drop everything, take his shirt off and lay next to her. But everything at work was a clusterfuck, and he knew missing one meeting would come back to bite him in the ass. He left the coffee cup next to his computer, and scribbled a little note that was left next to the coffee maker.
The awful ringtone came on, and he turned on the camera as he somehow conjured a smile.
-
"So you see, the next quarter we'll need to review our projects, top to bottom." A slender redheaded man said, voice stern to the point of sounding like a drill sergeant.
Finn's attention got drawn upwards. She was standing at the doorway, wearing his buttoned up shirt and a smile. Finn smiled back, and gazed down to the call, trying to mask it. He pressed the "mute" button. "Hi."
Rey said nothing, just stood there, crossing her leg back. Only then he noticed she had nothing underneath.
"Sorry, this is taking a little bit." He said, apparently trying to ignore her. The man on the screen kept talking, and Finn hoped that no one was noticing him.
She took two steps forward. "Just figured you could use a little distraction."
He smiled nervously. "Let me just get through this call."
"I mean you could." She said.
"Mr. Finn, that's your department." He heard, jolting him back to his screen.
"Sorry, I cut off for a moment."
Rey smiled widely, as Finn tried to explain himself.
"I have already put in the documentation, as well as updated the-"
She turned away from him, and dropped the shirt on the floor. Finn saw her, stopping for a moment.
"Updated the contact list. I'll get in touch with the clients-"
Rey walked slowly towards his desk, leaning on it. She was so close he could've touched her.
"This upcoming week." His voice was masking his nervousness. Apparently no one noticed. The meeting continued. She wiggled her hips while walking to the small sofa in the corner. Slowly, she sat down, facing him. Their eyes met, and she wiggled her finger at him.
He muted the call. "5 minutes." He smiled nervously, trying to focus on the call. Another coworker was explaining advances in a case, and what was next for her team.
Rey looked directly at him, spreading her legs ever so slightly. Finn's eyes darted from the screen to her, back and forth. She brought her fingers to her lips, licking two of them very slowly. It was a show, set only for him.
She brought her fingers down to the middle of her legs, tenderly massaging herself.
As her eyes closed, his were completely fixed on her. Words became less than a noise in the background. The room was her stage, and she wanted him to join.
Her hips swayed as her movements became deeper, eyeing him between movements. Biting her lips.
There was a lump on his throat now. He slowly swiped his finger up the mousepad, hovering over the wi-fi connection. The idea of bailing was so tempting.
Rey mouthed words at him. Three simple words that he understood without needing to read her lips. "Come fuck me." Her index and ring fingers teased the edges of her lips, letting Finn see her.
He looked at the screen as if he were listening. He made his decision, and a click afterwards, the call appeared to have been disconnected. "Wi-fi went down" he'd text later to a coworker.
He slammed the computer close, and went up to her. Rey grabbed his shoulders, kissing his neck as his hands grabbed her. They looked at each other, and wordlessly agreed that this moment was for them, and them alone.
They kissed fiercely, her trying to pull him into her, feeling his bulge against her exposed mound.
Her voice broke into a yelp, as she was carried by him. A wet spot went from her sex to his pants. Quickly, but with care, she was flung onto the bed, legs wide open. Finn barely lowered his pants, exposed to her. He reached quickly to the nightstand, fumbling with a package. Her fingers went inside her, massaging and getting her all the more aroused.
When he was done, he slid himself inside Rey. She moaned. "Fuck!" Hands joined together, pressed against the mattress, as they moved together. Lips pressed against her neck, and her legs gripped him close. While usually they were tender, and slow, this time they were overtaken by something else.
"You like that?" He whispered in her ear, before kissing the other side of her neck.
"Mmhmm!" She moaned, breath going quickly now.
"You do huh?" He said, pushing hard into her. She moaned into his shoulder, legs getting tighter.
It all became a blur, their movements harsh and defined.
Finn's phone blared a text alert from the other room, but no one did notice. His thumb went down, running circles around her clit.
"Fucking hell" she gasped. "Fuck-"
"Tell me you want it."
"Fuck me."
"Tell me you want it."
He pushed himself deep, all of his cock inside of her.
"I want it!"
The thrusts were deep, fast. Both of them moaned with each movement.
"I'm gonna come, I'm-"
"Fuck!" She exclaimed, as he pounded into her, taking her to the limit.
Both moans came one second after the other. Rey's legs got tighter behind him, and her grip hard on his hand. The two finished with a loud moan, forcefully coming at once, and for a few seconds. While inside her, he rested his head on her shoulder, kissing it tenderly as both came down.
-
There was quiet in the apartment. Both remained clung onto the other, enjoying the feeling and the leftover pleasure.
He looked at her, face flushed. Rey's eyes were closed, and she smiled widely.
"Fuck" He said.
"Fuck." She replied, smiling.
They shared another kiss on the lips.
-
Finn was at his desk again, replying to his work chat. Apparently he did not miss much, but he still apologized.
"I'm so sorry, connection went out! Didn't come back till I reset my router!" He lied, emphasizing his fake outrage with an angry emoji face. No one did seem to mind much, and the chat remained focused on their next meeting and updates. Rey was standing on the doorway again, towel barely covering her.
"I needed that." He said.
"That's two of us."
"I know things have been hard." She stated. His expression changed. "And I know you're trying your best. We both are. I guess... it's easy to get lost, no?"
"I don't feel lost at all." He replied, getting up and walking towards her. "I found you."
They kissed again, arms surrounding each other.
"We'll be ok."
"We will." She said.
The day seemed brighter, and they had the whole weekend to themselves now.
