Chapter Text
Remus J. Lupin
“Headmaster you need to understand, I don’t know if it’s in his best interest-” His fathers voice rang out from the front door. Remus was hidden at the top of the, eavesdropping on the conversation his dad was having with the bearded man. Heart pounding in his chest, he knew it was about him.
“His ‘best interest’ is going to a school meant for people like him, Lyall. We both know that.” Remus noted that the headmaster was loud, despite not once raising his voice.
“You mean a school where people would shun him for what he is? Bully him? Get the ministry involved? I don’t want to lose my boy! If the ministry found out a werewolf was going to a school with other children he’d be executed!” Lyall Lupin exclaimed angrily. He was red in the face, shaking slightly at the old wizard in front of him, with long grey hair, followed by an equally long beard.
“The ministry wouldn't find out. Nor would we tell them. We simply keep his existence a secret. He goes to Hogwarts, and gets an education. He can’t remain hidden for the rest of his life. Besides, why don’t we ask him what he wants? He’s heard the entire conversation.”Albus points out. Remus lets out a gasp, his face turning crimson in embarrassment. He didn’t know that the headmaster knew he was there.
“Remus come here.” His father said sternly. Remus shuffled down the stairs, keeping his head down, and making his way over to beside his father. He stared at the gaps in the floor, between the wood planks of their old shabby house. It wasn't much to others, when people passed by the thought of it as "Just the Lupin's. They don't go out often. Quiet folks." The house being rather small and beat up, the garden overgrown, but it was home to Remus, and he didn't mind.
“How much of our conversation did you hear?” Lyall says, a tone of anger hidden in his voice, but Remus recognized it. “I-u-um not much i swear! But um, going to Hogwarts… where you went.” He mumbles out, digging his feet into the ground to avoid having to make eye contact.
“Would you like to go to Hogwarts Remus? To learn magic with other witches and wizards?” Albus Dumbledore says with a smile. Remus finally looks up, taking the old wizard in fully. He looks old. Dressed head to toe in robes, long hair, and a long beard, but he looked nice. Friendly. And he knew about Remus’ biggest secret. He looked to his father, almost to ask for permission, but Lyall just stared at his son with a blank expression. He noticed this is how his father often looked at him. Monotone.
“If it’s okay with my dad…” He says quietly.
“What precautions would we take?” Lyall asks apprehensively. Dumbledore thinks about the question before responding. “Well, the only people who would know would be the head of the houses. The less people who know the better. When the full moon hits, we’ll have a house ready for him to transform there, with the necessary enchantments on it so he can’t escape.”
“He’d be safe there?”
“Perfectly safe.”
Lyall considers it for a moment, looking down at his eleven year old son, who looked so small, and so fragile to be leaving the house, then to the headmaster, remembering his time at the school, the experiences he had while there.
“Well I don’t suppose you would have his school list on you?”
