Suna Rintarou fell in love on a rainy day in July.
Checking his phone earlier, Rintarou had known it was meant to rain soon. Despite that, he obliged when Motoya had knocked on his door and asked if he’d like to accompany him on a walk.
When the skies opened and buckets of rain were dumped on them, Rintarou wasn’t surprised in the slightest. Yet, his breath was still caught in his throat and his heart still stopped for a beat.
When the rain began, Motoya laughed. His mouth went wide and his eyes squeezed shut and he laughed. It was a hearty laugh, one that rang chorus bells in Rintarou’s mind and made everyone around it smile a large, toothy grin.
Everything froze, Rintarou’s only focus set upon the bright boy before him. He noticed the small wrinkles around his eyes and the way rounded eyebrows dipped down. Rintarou noticed the small gaps between teeth and the messy brown hair stuck to skin in a strange pattern. He noticed the light dimple hidden in a round cheek and an upturned nose, pointing towards the sky. Rintarou noticed it all.
When time had gone back to normal, Rintarou noticed a faint blush dotting Motoya’s neck, reaching just barely over his shirt. When the pair continued their walk, Rintarou noticed a pattern in Motoya’s walk, a small bounce following every third step. When they’d stopped to sit on a bench, Rintarou noticed the small shine in Motoya’s eyes, gazing up at the darkened clouds.
Every action, every colour, every shimmer. Rintarou noticed it all.
He noticed the beats his heart would skip, one every few seconds. He noticed the warmth spreading throughout his body, despite the cold rain soaking into his skin. He noticed the corners of his mouth, tugging upwards despite his resistance. He noticed the small butterflies that inhabited his stomach, fluttering around and around constantly.
Rintarou noticed the moment he fell in love.
