Work Header

blood dripping on the tile

Summary:

"Vi didn’t want to move. She wanted to frame this moment, so close to what they used to be. They had changed so much since they were kids, but in this moment, with her in her arms, maybe they could go back to what they used to be.

But of course it doesn’t last.

Jinx pulled away slowly, looking up at her sister. She pat her on the back a few times, snickering before turning away.

“Goodbye Vi.” She smiled over her shoulder before turning on her heel and making her way out the door."

Alternately :
Vi was not expecting Jinx to turn up, battered and bleeding, at her house in the middle of the night. She also wasn't expecting her wife to have a panic attack at the sight of her. And now she has to figure out how to handle both of them

Notes:

this took me so long to write?????? i lowkey just gave up on the end but whoops. this one really got away from me i intended it to be like 2000 words but yikes. anyways i wanna explore this dynamic more because i imagine caitlyn must hold a lot of trauma around jinx's party but thats also her wife's sister so how does one handle that.

anyways

i hope you all enjoy <33

Work Text:

The sound of clattering is what startles her out of her sleep.

Caitlyn’s strong arms are wrapped around her waist, keeping Vi’s back pressed flush against her stomach. Caitlyn doesn’t move at first, the loud sound seemingly not disturbing her, otherwise peaceful, sleep.

Vi creaked one eye open, using it to scan the bedroom. Nothing was different. A small painting still hung on the wall, still shrouded in darkness. A white chest still rested against the wall opposite their bed, stuffed and overflowing with their clothes. There was still a slender figure lurking by the window, face obscured by shadow.

Oh Fuck.

Vi jolted up in bed, tearing herself out of her wife’s arms. She felt Caitlyn shift in bed beside her.

Powder stood by the window frame, clutching herself tightly. Her whole body trembled as the wind blew in from the, still open, window beside her.

“Powder?” Vi spoke softly.

“It’s Jinx.” She cut out through gritted teeth. She winced in pain as she spoke.

Vi was about to get herself out of bed when she heard a faint whimper from beside her. Her eyes darted to her wife. Caitlyn sat, frozen against the headboard. Her eyes were glued to Jinx’s frame.

“Cait? Are you ok?” She murmured, bringing herself closer to her wife.

Powder remained frozen in her spot by the window, still holding her stomach.

Caitlyn looked up at Vi and then let her eyes fall back to Powder.

oh

“Hey, it’s ok love. I’m here. Can I help go help her? I’ll be right back I promise.”

Caitlyn just nodded unsurely, eyes still wide in terror.

Vi carefully untangled herself from Caitlyn’s limbs, slipping out of bed. The room was cold without her wife’s body around her, without the warm blanket pooled around her waist.

She approached Powder like she was a petrified animal, slowly and cautiously. Her hands were extended slightly in front of her.

“Can I come close, PowPow?” She asked gently.

Powder just nodded lightly, letting Vi finally get close enough to touch her. Vi was about to reach out and brush her cheek when she fell forward into her arms. Her small face fell into the crook of Vi’s neck. Her weight was heavy in her arms as she dropped, body almost limp.

“My name is Jinx.” She snarled, sucking in a sharp breath when she finished speaking.

Vi sighed, letting her arms slide down to loosely hold her sister’s waist.

“You’re right. I’m sorry. Jinx, I need you to tell me what’s wrong.”

“Hurt.” Was the only thing she could choke out.

Vi pulled away a little bit, scanning her sister’s trembling body. She noticed now that her long hair was damp, dirt scrubbed across her face. Jinx’s hands pulled away from her stomach, both slick with blood and water. They moved to reveal a large gash in her stomach, an extensive shard of glass poking out of the wound.

“Holy fuck, Jinx.” Vi stuttered.

Hot blood dripped onto her hands as she reached out to brush the wound. The panic was starting to set in, her heart pounding in her ears.

“We need to get you to the bathroom.” She spoke, quickly guiding her sister to their clean bathroom. Blood dripped onto the tile as she settled her down on the edge of the bathtub.

Her hands got busy, shifting and adjusting and doing everything in her power to stop the bleeding from the wound in her sister’s stomach. Her sister didn’t seem completely lucid as she worked, her eyes hazier than usual. She was only pulled away from her work by the sound of the gentle padding of footsteps behind her. Her eyes made their way to the doorframe and she saw Caitlyn standing there, still holding herself anxiously.

“Cait, love, are you ok?” Vi asked, just barely looking up from Jinx’s crumbling body.

She tried to ignore the way Jinx tensed at the words of affection.

“Her wounds look bad. And I want to be here in case you need help. And…” She paused. “I just want to be here for you.”

Vi just nodded, watching as Caitlyn dug through the cabinets to find their first aid kit. It remained stored in a back cabinet for when the two of them came back from rough missions. She placed the kit on the counter next to Vi, quickly backing away. She perched herself on the counter, as far away from Jinx as possible. She seemed to be even more anxious in the bathroom with Jinx.

Vi worked quickly trying to patch her sister up as fast as possible. She worked on small cuts, cleaning and working on bandaging small wounds.

She watched Jinx’s erratic eyes move about their bathroom. Her eyes traced the walls, holding on Caitlyn for a little too long for comfort, before looking down at her sister's hands.

Her eyes widen and her face splits into a painful grin.

“Vi, why do you have that ring on?” She asks, cocking her head to the side.

Her wedding band

Her heart sank to her feet for a moment. This was not a discussion Vi wanted to have right now.

“It’s uh, It’s a wedding band. Caitlyn and I are married.” She spoke softly.

And then it started.

Jinx started laughing. It started off low and quiet, eventually devolving into a full fledged cackle, pulling away from her sister.

She suddenly flinched away, throwing her hands in the air and turning her head to the side.

“Shut up!” She screamed, clutching her ears.

Vi tried to move forward, her sister's movement aggravating the wound in her stomach, glass still poking out of it.

She could see Caitlyn press herself further away from the younger girl. Tears seemed to be building in her eyes and all Vi wanted to do was pull her into her arms and press kisses into her hair.

“So they weren’t joking when they said my sister left me for a shitty topsider!” Jinx continued to laugh.

Vi finally got close enough to Jinx to touch her, cradling her cheeks in between her calloused hand.

“Jinx. Jinx, please I need you to look at me.” Vi murmured. She could hear Caitlyn shifting behind her, still crouched on the counter. Her wife’s breathing was heavier this time, the room growing tense in anxiety.

One of Jinx’s hands grabs Vi’s, the other running along the glass in her stomach. She’s still cackling loudly.

“You really did love her more than me!” She laughed hysterically. Then, suddenly, her hands started banging against her head, fists knocking against her skull. “I said shut up! Why won’t you shut up!” She yelled at herself.

“Please, Jinx, I don’t want you to hurt yourself.” Vi tried to grab at her sister’s hands, stopping her from banging against her head.

Jinx’s eyes are blurry and unfocused and she’s murmuring to herself.

“No, no she said she wouldn’t do that.” She murmured.

“Jinx, I need you to listen.” She knew her sister likely wasn’t listening to her, still engaged in conversation with herself. “I’m not going to abandon you. I love you so much, but I love Caitlyn too. My love for the two of you can exist at the same time. I’m here for you no matter what. You see right now, you came here, and I’m here to help you. My doors will always be open for you.”

This seemed to somewhat bring Jinx back to reality, her eyes focusing more on the girl cradling her face.

“That’s it. I’m here.” Her mind was still torn between her sister and her wife, whom she knew was on the brink of a panic attack herself.

She knew she couldn’t leave her sister’s side, especially when she was like this. Jinx still didn’t seem focused enough and it was making Vi anxious. Behind her she heard the soft padding of feet and the bathroom door opening and then closing. And then it was just the sisters once again.

“Can I hold you closer, Jinx?” Vi asked.

“She’s not gonna hurt me!” Jinx yelled at herself, pulling away from her sister.

One of her arms swung wildly, eventually smacking against the glass shard in her torso. She let out a wild and angry scream. Her face contorted in pain as she fell backwards.

Fuck.

Nothing was going how Vi needed.

She really didn’t want to have to restrain her sister but it was looking like that was going to be her only option. The real question was how to do this without hurting her sister. Jinx froze for a moment, flinching. Vi took this as her opportunity to react. She jumped forward, grabbing her sister’s wrists tightly. She shifted her weight forward, trapping her sister’s legs between her stomach and the side of the bathtub.

Jinx just thrashed. She tried to rip her arms out of Vi’s grip.

“Jinx, please can you focus on me?” Vi murmured.

After a few minutes Jinx finally gave up going limp in her older sister’s arms. Finally, Vi just cradled the girl in her arms. She tucked her head against her chest and just held her there for a moment. She let the tears bubble up in her eyes, finally, the stress of everything that had been going on finally hit her.

This girl in front of her was her sister.

The same Powder who she would get into pillow fights with late at night and sneak around Vander to play games when they were supposed to be sleeping.

She was still skinny, lanky and awkward and the way she carried herself. God she looked so much like Powder, yet absolutely nothing like her at the same time.

And now she’s here, broken and sobbing in her arms. Blood is still dripping from her torso and her face is still dirty and hair damp.

The door behind her creaked open quickly, just barely, and something small was placed on the floor. She just barely caught Caitlyn’s hands disappearing behind the door. A small tray had been placed on the floor with two small plastic cups of water, as well as a small pack of chips.

“Thank you, Cupcake.” Vi spoke, hoping her wife would hear her through the door.

She could hear her pacing outside the bathroom, a habit she only had when she was incredibly anxious.

She turned her attention back to her sister, still only semi-lucid but a lot less violent. She let go of her hands, moving down to the largest wound in her body.

She worked with some cloth, cleaning around the wound as best as possible. She wiped away the dirt and grime and tidied up the blood a bit too.

The next step was to stitch up the main wound, but she knew that this was a risky job. She prepared the stitching quickly, knowing she would have to patch up the wound almost as soon as the glass was removed.

Her hands worked quickly, sliding the glass out of the wound. Jinx gripped her sister’s shoulders hard, letting out a whine of pain.

“Oh fuck.” She groaned as the glass finally came out of her stomach.

Blood immediately came pouring out of the wound, dripping onto Vi’s wrapped hands. She rushed to stitch up the wound, her sister’s cries of pain sounding like nails on a chalkboard.

She wished she could have sedated her or something, anything so her sister wouldn’t have to experience this pain.

Finally, after what felt like forever, her sister was finally patched up. All that was left was to properly bandage the wound. She stretched over to the door, trying to grab the tray without scaring her sister.

She placed the glass of water into Jinx’s hands, instructing her to drink. She was about to bring her own glass to her lips when her sister started chugging. Water dripped down her face as she tore through the water like it was the only hydration she’d had in months.

It likely was.

“Hey hey hey, Jinx, I need you to slow down ok? There’s always more water here for you but I don’t want you to make yourself sick.”

The glass slid away from her sister’s lips as she looked up at her in confusion.

“Come on, let’s just try some smaller sips ok?”

Vi drank from her water first to show the girl what she meant. Jinx looked confused but followed nonetheless.

“Good job, Jinx.” She murmured, brushing a chunk of hair out of her sister’s face.

Caitlyn’s footsteps outside were driving her mad, making her anxious for her wife. She rushed to carefully bandage Jinx, finally helping her rise to her feet. The younger girl was still slightly damp, her hair disheveled.

“Can I help you clean up?” Vi asked.

Jinx seemed calmer now, spacey and out of it, but calm nonetheless. She just nodded.

Vi let her lean her weight against her while she helped her out of the bathroom. She stopped just before the bathroom door, hesitating for a moment.

“Cupcake, we’re coming out now, ok?”

A familiar voice rang out. She told them ok and then there was a faint shuffling. She grabbed a towel quickly before opening the door slowly, revealing her wife sitting curled in on herself on the bed, body trembling in panic.

She guided Jinx towards the bed, settling her on the floor between her legs. She sat on the bed above her, holding her long braids in her hands.

“Jinx, can I brush your hair?” Vi asked softly.

Her sister let out a grunt, nodding.

Vi made quick work of undoing the younger girl’s long braids, letting her damp hair splay out across her lap. It was just like how they were when they were younger, little Powder smiling as Violet ran her hands through her thick hair.

Vi looked to Caitlyn with pleading eyes, asking her wife to use her hairbrush. Caitlyn looked reluctant but nonetheless slid the brush across the bed to Vi. Vi got to work brushing her hair, raking her brush through the tangles in her sister’s almost matted blue locks. Jinx flinched every so often as she worked, the brush getting caught on some particularly knotted sections of her hair. After a while she made her way through the hair, using rough hands to pull them back into her signature messy braids.

“There you go, Jinx. Now let’s get you ready for bed.”

She shifted behind her sister, getting ready to slip off of the bed and towards the overflowing chest opposite her bed.

She was stopped by a slender hand grabbing her wrist, Jinx’s watery eyes looking up at her in horror.

“Please don’t go!” She cried.

And her heart broke all over again.

She couldn’t stop the tears as they poured out of her eyes, her hand coming up to cover her mouth as she choked back a sob.

“Jinx. Jinx, please. I’m so so sorry. I’m ever gonna leave you again.”

Jinx just held herself as close to her sister as possible, squeezing any air out of the gap between the sisters. Vi didn’t want to let her go, didn’t wanna be torn away from her the way she was last time.

“C’mon, let’s get you into pajamas.” Vi murmured, taking her sister into her arms. Jinx’s arms wound around Vi’s neck, keeping her tight against her stronger sister. Vi held her in a bridal carry, lifting her over to the dresser. She set her down on the ground, still holding her weight against her.

“I have some clothes you can borrow. That way you can get some sleep.”

Jinx just nodded, eyes still glassy.

Vi pulled out a grey undershirt tank top and some black shorts, the only clothes she had that had any hopes of still fitting her sister. She kept a few clothes stored away, in case one day her sister really came home to her.

She turned away as her sister stripped down to change, catching her wife turning away too. It hadn’t slipped her mind how anxious her wife was with her sister in the house, still clutching herself anxiously on the bed.

Finally, Jinx was changed into her pajamas.

“I’m ready.” Jinx spoke, her voice raspier than usual.

Vi just nodded, guiding her down the hallway. She showed her to a dark guest room, clearly decorated with her in mind. The walls were a light blue, clouds decorating the top. A bookshelf full of books lines one wall, engineering and art books. A large bed rested against one wall, stuffed animals and blankets piled high against it.

“Here you go, let’s get you set up.”

Vi guided her to the bed, laying her fragile body against the plush blankets.

“You ok?” She murmured to her sister. Jinx just nodded, her body still tense with anxiety.

Vi nodded, turning on her heel to head out of the room, wishing her sister a light goodnight. Her walk was stopped, however, by her younger sister’s hand on her arm, nails digging into the tender skin.

“Please don’t leave me.” Jinx whined, her voice warbly with tears.

Vi, so desperately, wanted to go back to her room. She wanted to press a kiss to her wife’s hand, cup her cheeks between calloused palms and tell her everything is gonna be ok.

But her sister also needed her.

“Do you want me to stay for a bit?” Vi asked softly.

Jinx nodded, trying to tug the older girl back into the bed with her. Vi obeyed, climbing onto the large bed and absorbing her sister into a hug. Jinx’s face buried itself against her neck, relishing in the warmth of Vi’s strong arms wrapped around her body tightly.

“I’m gonna have to go back to my own room eventually, ok? But I’ll be here for a while.” She whispered.

Jinx let out a soft hum of acknowledgement, just trying to hug herself closer.

It wasn’t long before Vi felt Jinx grow heavier in her arms. Her sister was so clearly exhausted, tiredness etched into the fine lines of her face. Deep purple and dark brown tracing her otherwise soft features.

“I love you, Powder.” Vi whispered.

After a few silent moments, the only sound in the house being Caitlyn’s footsteps on the hardwood floor, Vi decided it was time to go back to her wife. She began to untangle herself from her sister's tiny body, slipping her arms away from her waist. The movement must have startled her sister awake, purple eyes suddenly looking at her in panic.

“Vi?”

“Hey hey, it’s ok. I’m just going back to my bedroom ok?”

Jinx thought for a moment, looking at her sister.

“Ok. Goodnight Vi.” Jinx whispered, nodding.

Vi bent down, pressing a kiss to her sister’s forehead.

“I love you, Jinx. Goodnight.”

Vi pulled away from her sister, looking over her once again before closing the bedroom door. She stopped for a moment, trying to gather herself before opening the door to her own bedroom. It creaked open slowly and revealed Caitlyn, still pacing the room in her silk chemise.

The creaking door seemed to startle her back to reality, her jumping back in terror as the door opened. Her whole body relaxed when she realized it was simply her wife. Vi approached her slowly while running her hands through her hair.

“Is she?” Caitlyn began to question.

Vi just nodded, finally making her way to where her wife stood. She finally embraced the woman, her body awkwardly bent over to fit snugly in Vi’s arms. And just like that, she broke.

Her whole body shook in rough sobs, thick tears dripping onto Vi’s neck.

“Shh, I’m here, cupcake. You’re safe.” She cooed.

“I’m so sorry.” Caitlyn cried, her whole body shaking with tears.

“Caitlyn, my love, why are you apologizing?”

Caitlyn was clearly struggling to speak through the tears, her breathing uneven and labored. Vi’s right hand held her waist tightly, the left hand coming up to cradle the back of her wife’s head.

“Baby, I need you to breathe ok? I’m gonna take you back to the bed, alright?” She began to shift, slipping her arm underneath Caitlyn’s legs and wrapping the other around her back. When her wife finally felt secure against her body she began the journey back to their bed, settling onto the bed.

Vi rested against the headboard, her legs slightly apart for her wife to rest between. She rocked side to side slowly, trying to soothe the taller woman. She held her in a hug from behind, knowing that was the best way to cut off a panic attack for the woman before it began.

“Cait, can you breathe with me, please? Can you follow me?” She took in slow deep breaths, trying to get her wife to copy her.

One of her hands came to fall on her wife’s thigh, the other holding her hand between gentle fingers. Her thumb stroked the back of her wife’s hand, doing whatever she could to keep her present and grounding. Caitlyn tried to mimic her breath, slow and even breaths catching in her throat.

“Good job baby, you’re doing so good.”

The hand in Vi’s was still trembling, her wife visibly holding tension in her body.

After a moment, Caitlyn let out a heavier breath. Her breathing was finally beginning to even out. Tears still silently streamed down her face, but she seemed to be at least a little bit calmer.

“I love you, cupcake.” Vi murmured, pressing absent kisses to the side of her neck.

“I’m just sorry, Violet. I know I was making you stressed by being anxious while she’s in the house. You shouldn’t have to deal with me at the same time.” She spoke quietly.

Vi felt her heart shatter in a way. She didn’t want her wife to feel like she couldn’t have feelings around Jinx just because she was her sister.

“Cait, you don’t have to apologize. Your feelings are valid, they’re important no matter what. I’m here for you no matter what. That’s what I signed up for right?” Her finger brushed against the wedding ring that Caitlyn wore around her finger, a silent reminder that Vi chose to be here for her.

Caitlyn was quiet for a moment. There was an uncomfortable silence only broken by her own voice.

“I think about it all the time.” She whispered. It was followed by a quiet sob and the resuming of the violent tremors in her body.

Vi’s heart couldn’t help but ache.

“Caitlyn, sweetheart, I’m so sorry.”

“It’s like every time I go to the bathroom by myself I feel like she’s watching me, just waiting for the moment where she can strike, take me back there.”

Vi’s grip on her tightened.

“I’m sorry, love. I’m here for you. You’re safe with me.” She murmured.

“I feel bad because I know she’s your sister. She’s important to you. But I’m just so terrified of her. I never want to go through that again.”

“Hey hey shh, it’s ok. I’m here for you baby. Just because she’s my sister doesn’t mean you can’t have feelings about her, hell I have feelings about her. What you went through was traumatic and it's totally understandable that it still affects you. I’m so sorry you had to go through that.” She tried to talk her down from another panic attack, reminding her that she was safe here.

Caitlyn just nodded.

“Can you breathe with me again?” Vi asked.

Caitlyn nodded, trying to mimic her wife’s gentle breathing. Vi finally stopped rocking, relaxing against the headboard.

“Good job baby.”

Caitlyn turned herself around, leaning up to press a kiss to her wife’s lips. She stayed between her legs, now just letting herself relax comfortably against Vi.

Vi’s hand met her face, cupping her cheeks and brushing her thumb against her cheekbone. With a few I love you’s and it’s ok’s whispered between kisses, the two women lost themselves in each other.

“I think it might be time to go to sleep.” Vi murmured against her lips.

Caitlyn looked exhausted and worn down from anxiety and Vi was sure she didn’t look much better.

Caitlyn just nodded, situating herself against her wife. They held each other close through the whole night, bodies pressed close as if they were hanging on for dear life. At least here, in this space, it felt safe. If only for a little bit.

When Vi awoke the next morning, she was still tangled around her wife. The tear tracks from the night prior still stained her wife’s skin. Vi let her hand reach out and trace the tender skin on her face, watching Caitlyn’s brows furrow before relaxing again. Vi vaguely remembered something going down last night but she couldn't put her brain on the details.

She unwrapped her wife from around her, slipping out of the bed silently. She was tired still, her body aching from the wear and tear of the night prior.

She rose from the bed, stretching out the sore spots. She tried to ignore the way her shoulder clicked as she moved it, an issue for another day, she thought.

She pressed the door open quietly, trying to keep it as quiet as possibly to avoid waking her slumbering wife.

She made her way down the hallway towards the kitchen. Her heart nearly jumped out of her chest when she noticed the slightly cracked door of the guest bedroom.

And then she remembered.

Her sister breaking into their house.

The blood spilling across the floor of her bathroom.

Her wife crumbling in her eyes.

And suddenly she felt like she had to check on her sister. She made her way to the door as fast as possible, pressing a hand to the door to creak it open just a bit more. Two thick blue braids lay in a heap on the floor, her sisters back to the door. Her chest rose and fell slowly and evenly and she felt a weight lift off her chest that she hadn’t even noticed before.

She backed away slowly, not wanting to wake her sister from her peaceful sleep. Possibly her first good sleep in months.

She made her way to the kitchen instead, hoping to prepare some type of breakfast for her family.

Family

She wasn’t the greatest cook, no that position didn’t belong to anyone in the house. But she at least knew how to cook. She worked quickly to make pancakes, something quick and easy that she knew both girls loved to eat.

She was mixing a dash of cinnamon into the mixture when a pair of strong arms around her waist startled her. The familiar smell of vanilla and lavender overwhelmed her nose.

“Good morning, Violet.” Caitlyn murmured, pressing a soft kiss to the shorter woman’s shoulder.

“Mornin’ cupcake.” She chuckled.

She was glad that Caitlyn seemed to be doing better than last night. Her wife was too observant to not know that her sister was still in the house, but the taller woman seemed significantly more relaxed right now.

“I love you.” Caitlyn had begun moving her kisses around, kissing up her neck.

“I love you too.” Vi turned around in her arms, now facing her wife. “You look beautiful by the way.” She smiled, leaning forward to press another kiss to her wife’s lips. Their kiss deepened, Caitlyn moving forward to press Vi against the counter.

Vi gasped against her lips as Caitlyn’s knee came up to rest between her legs.

“Ooh haha, right here?” Vi snickered.

Caitlyn’s hands cupped her wife’s face, Vi’s wrapped around her waist. They shot apart, however, when another voice was heard throughout the kitchen.

“If you’re gonna fuck can you not do it right in front of me in the kitchen.” Jinx called.

Caitlyn pulled away quickly. Vi stepped in front of her, a protective arm blocking her from her sister.

“Woah, chill out. I just came here to tell you I’m gonna leave.” Jinx spoke.

Vi felt crushed in a way. She was so close to having her sister back, but it was only for a moment.

She knew it was just for a moment.

“Why don’t you at least stay for breakfast?”

It didn’t come from Vi, however, it was Caitlyn.

She was still trembling behind Vi, red in the face.

“Uh, about that, Miss Piltover, I should just get going.”

Vi stepped forward this time.

“Just stay for some pancakes, then you can leave, ok? For me, Jinx?”

The younger girl hesitated, seemingly deep in thought for a moment.

“I guess I can never turn down food.” She smiled, settling into a seat around the kitchen table.

Vi turned back to the pancakes, her wife sticking close by her side.

“Are you ok?” She whispered.

Caitlyn just nodded, trying to keep as close to Vi as possible. Vi slid around the kitchen, working to make a small stack of plain pancakes, enough for her, her wife, and her sister. They worked quickly to make a stack of pancakes, stacking them neatly and placing them down at the table.

Vi slid into the seat across from her sister, her wife sitting next to her, their hands still joined underneath the table. Her thumb traced the back of Caitlyn’s hand soothingly, squeezing it every so often.

Breakfast went on silently, uncomfortable and stuffy. Jinx burned through her meal rapidly, shoveling food from her plate into her mouth almost ravenously. She pushed her plate away from her and sat back in her chair, clutching her stomach.

“Woah, Vi, where did you learn how to do that?” Jinx cocked her head to the side.

Vi just shrugged, looking over her sister for a second. She was still clad in Vi’s clothes, hanging slightly loosely off her body. After a few moments Jinx pushed her chair back and rose from her seat at the table.

“Thanks for letting me stay here sis.” She spoke, her voice quieter than usual.

Vi just smiled at her.

“Of course.”

She rose to meet her sister, looking at her wife for assurance. Caitlyn just nodded, backing her own chair away from where the two sisters stood.

Vi wrapped her arms around her sister, holding her as close to herself as possible, pressing a kiss to the crown of her head.

“I love you Jinx, I hope you know that. If you ever need anything, I’m here, ok?”

Jinx nodded, squeezing Vi tighter.

“I love you too sis.”

Vi didn’t want to move.

“Goodbye Vi.” She smiled over her shoulder before turning on her heel and making her way out the door.

Vi didn’t know how to react. She was so close, so close to having her sister back. But she’s gone now.

She didn’t even realize she was crying until Caitlyn’s arms wrapped around her waist.

“It’s ok baby, shhh, I need you to breathe.”

She turned to face her wife, who was slightly bent over so their faces were level. One of Caitlyn’s hands came to rest on Vi’s chest, feeling her heartbeat.

“Good job, love, it’s ok.”

Vi pulled Caitlyn closer to her.

“I love you Cupcake. Thank you for being so understanding, I know this was hard for you too.” She spoke through tears.

“It’s ok love. I’m ok. I’m glad you got to be with her, even if just for a little bit.”

Vi just held her, clinging onto her body.

“Come on love, let’s get back in bed ok?”

VI just nodded. Caitlyn guided Vi back to bed, laying the two of them down onto the mattress. She kept Vi close to her, murmuring sweet nothings into the top of her head.

“I love you.” She whispered against the crown of her head.

“I love you too, cupcake.”

And if Jinx lingered just a little bit to watch the two of them through a window, well, they didn’t have to know.
