Chapter Text
Yoongi sighed deeply and placed his head in his hands. The girl beside him was irritating to no end and her abnormally high-pitched voice was bringing on a monster of a headache. She was cute, long pitch black hair, and seemed nice, but her perfume too sweet to tolerate and constantly gripping tightly to his arms whenever she nasally laughed.
If she has issues with her balance then she should probably see a doctor about that.
He looked down and started picking at the frays on his tight black jeans, boredom starting to sink in.
"What do you say?"
He glances up at the blonde in front of him with raised eyebrows, just now realizing that she was talking. Her eyes were wide with expectation and excitement. The other girl is gone, probably realizing how uninterested he really is.
"Hmm?"
She blinked a couple of times and gave a small smile. "The Annual Red Moon Dance. I..I was asking that, I mean wondering if.. you are free um this weekend, I mean, if you'd like to go...with me."
He shamelessly scanned her features and scrunched his eyebrows. Why is she pretending to be shy? She was obviously acting coy. Her stuttering had been purposeful, Yoongi takes note, probably a façade to seem as though she'd been practicing those sentences on her way here.
Yoongi opened his mouth to give an intentionally half-assed answer when a sudden shiver went down his spine and the scent of blueberry bubblegum and strawberries with a hint of black forest flooded his senses.
Deep inside, his wolf stirs, attention now completely focused on the unfamiliar scent. He kept repeating the same thing over and over again.
Mate.
Yoongi's eyes widened into saucers at the word and he looks back up at the girl. It seemed like she had noticed that he had grown suddenly aware and tried to hide a small smirk behind her a-little-too-perfect smile. "Um...so what do you say?"
Without thinking, he rose up from his seat on the bleachers and walks right past her. He quickly jogged down the stairs. Namjoon and Jungkook call him from behind but he doesn't stop.
He had to find his mate.
His nose twitches and leads him into the school, his feet moving forward by themselves. The scent was getting stronger. And addictive.
He turned a corner and slows to a stop. Right down the hallway, a crowd had gathered and seemed to be crowded over something.
Spectators grinned widely as they filmed with their cellphones while cheering albeit quietly incase teachers would be alerted by the noise. Others looked disgusted at the sight before them but didn't make a move to do anything about it.
He walked up to them but it wasn't because the curiosity got the better of him. It was where the scent was coming from. He sensed Namjoon and Jungkook coming nearer behind him.
With Yoongi being the alpha he is, people instinctively parted for him like the ocean did for Moses. When he sees what was happening in the centre, time seemed to slow.
In the middle of the school hallway stood three boys. Yoongi recognized the two as Kyung-min and the other Eun-taek.
He and the two used to be close friends in middle school up until puberty kicked in and they became absolute dicks.
A punch landed on the other person's jaw, making a small scratch on his cheek. It's impact sent him backwards, slamming his body onto the blue-grey lockers. It was two against one.
Yoongi's wolf growls uncomfortably when a bit of blood is smeared on the person's face, leaving Yoongi himself confused at the reaction.
It's not like this was his first time seeing blood. He liked the sight of it actually. Naturally as the upcoming alpha of one of the most violent packs in the South, you could say it was in his genes to find some sort of sick comfort.
But seeing the crimson liquid dribble out of the boy made his fingers twitch, resisting the urge to reach out and make it better, maybe even harm whoever caused it.
Yoongi raised a surprised eyebrow when the boy chuckled and lifted a hand to touch his cheek. He twists his lips to the side at the sight of blood and looks back up, amusement in his eyes. "Really? That's all?"
His voice was deep and dark like melted dark chocolate. It stirred something in Yoongi. Something... unexplainable.
A hand taps Yoongi on the shoulder but he kept his eyes trained on the bleeding (and rather attractive) stranger. "Yoongi-ah, what's wrong?" Namjoon asked in genuine concern and looked at what everyone else was watching.
"Is that all I've got? You've got some nerve Jung." Kyung-min glares daggers at him. "I gave you strict and simple orders. Write the essay and shit, give it to me so I can edit it then we'll present. It's fair for the both of us. So what's the fucking problem?" Kyung-min flicks the boy's forehead.
Yoongi's wolf seems to only grow even more distressed, urging Yoongi to do something, anything. Preferably snap the very fingers that touched the boy.
The hell? What is up with you today?
He can feel the annoyance just by how his wolf snarls a bit. What is wrong with you? Can't you see that someone is in danger? That he...
He what? Why am I even standing here? Why would you lead me here if there's nothing-
"Edit? I gave you an essay with a shitload of errors and plot holes on purpose. And yet, it came back exactly the same way it was three nights before.. and you said you 'edited' it?"
"You little.." Kyung-min pushes the stranger back against the wall and shoves him to the ground. Kyung-min then quickly straddles him before he has a chance to react and started punching him repeatedly.
Yoongi's shoulders tensed and he steps forward, finally giving into the urge to stop this madness.
And that's when a body practically came hurling in his direction.
Gasps were heard all around and eyes widened in both fear and interest. Namjoon, Kyung-min, Jungkook and Eun-taek froze in shock at the scene.
Yoongi had braced himself quick enough before they could both fall over. The stranger had been thrown into his arms and was holding on tightly. The boy's eyes snapped up and looked to Yoongi.
Both of them gasp at the same time.
Mate...
