Under the evening skies, a busy Hyeju was minding her business with her phone. Sitting beside her was her good friend Heejin; who unlike her was observing their surroundings with the skies slowly deepened into a mix of red and orange gradient. They were currently waiting for Chaewon, Hyeju’s other friend; Heejin’s girlfriend. Chaewon texted in their group chat that she would be done with class very soon. If she didn’t added how she would like to eat dinner with both of them at the very last minute, Hyeju would have gone home early.
Minutes passed, Heejin finally took off her earphones before facing Hyeju. “Permission to bother you for a few minutes?”
“Permission denied.” Hyeju said without tearing her gaze away from her phone screen. When she heard Heejin started to mumble in sadness beside her, she sighed in defeat and faced her friend. “What, what is it, what do you want?”
“I found this really good song and I thought you might like it too!” Heejin beamed in an instant, unbothered by Hyeju’s annoyed tone. She was so eager to tap the play button after lending her earphones to the younger one. “Get ready… to be blown away!”
“Sure.” Hyeju flatly replied, crossing her arms and landed her gaze at the front entrance of her college building. Without wasting a second after Hyeju’s reply, Heejin pressed play.
Literally a second in, the solo melody of the violin intrigued Hyeju’s interest right away. With her gaze still fixed at the entrance, Hyeju noticed a familiar person was walking out of the building when the instrumentals were growing richer with each bar passed.
‘Feel like sun, on my skin, so this is love… I know it is.’
“What the fuck.”
It was too cliché to describe the live scene that has engraved in Hyeju’s mind forever, but to simplify on whatever the hell just happened to her seconds earlier; Hyeju found herself crumbling down just as soon as the beat drops.
Oh God. She couldn’t think of a less dramatic way to explain the feeling but…
Her heart skipped a beat when a certain Kim Hyunjin greeted her with a smile after noticing her from afar. However despite the sudden attack, Hyeju managed to flash a smile in return while the girl was making their way towards her.
“I know right?!” Heejin said, she waved at Hyunjin when she noticed them too. “If the word ‘beautiful’ is a song then… Ah! Then this is the song!” She had mistaken the real meaning behind Hyeju’s sudden cuss but the latter didn’t bother much to correct her.
“You’re right.” Hyeju put out her hand in which Hyunjin instantly accept when they were close enough to her. “And if the word ‘beautiful’ is a human being then you, Kim Hyunjin–” She kissed the back of Hyunjin’s hand. “–are that word.”
Heejin swore she almost threw a punch at Hyeju for that. “Okay now you greasy ass!”
Meanwhile Hyunjin was flushed in embarrassment in front of the youngest out of the three. “Now what the hell did I miss from you this time…”
‘This is falling… Falling in Love.’
“Send me this song.” Hyeju told Heejin while pulling Hyunjin to sit down on her lap. “I gotta add this in my ‘thinking of Hyun’ playlist right away.”
Heejin laughed. “I knew you were gonna love it!”
“Yeah.” Hyeju returned the earphones to Heejin once the song ended. She then wrapped her free arm securely around Hyunjin’s waist and leaned her cheek against their back. “Where’s Chaewon, I’m hungry...”
Hyunjin chuckled. “So that’s why you’re still here.”
“Hold on! I’ll go look for her since she should be done by now.” Heejin excused herself away from the duo.
“I thought you said we were gonna have a dinner date later?” Hyunjin asked while drawing circles using her thumb on Hyeju’s hand that she was holding.
“Let’s just say I was threatened by Chaewon.” Hyeju sighed, Hyunjin briefly laughed. “And I figured I would bump into you while waiting for her so it’s why I didn’t send you a last minute text.”
Hyunjin nodded understandingly. “Would it be okay if I join you and your friends?”
“I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.” Hyeju replied. “You’re my girlfriend after all.” She chortled when she caught Hyunjin’s sheepish smile.
Soon Heejin returned to the duo while pulling a smiling Chaewon behind her. “Found her! – Now let’s head out for dinner… you should join us too, Hyunjin!”
“Oh hey! It’s a double date now.” Chaewon greeted the other couple.
“Good to know I’m not going to be third wheeling tonight.” Hyeju said, smiling at Hyunjin who gave her a quick peck on her cheek when they started to walk behind Heejin and Chaewon.
“Now... What should we eat?”
