Chapter Text
sooyoung huffed while her mother was trying to put her in a dress. not all six-year-olds are happy about being called back inside during a 'sunny yet perfect for playing tag' afternoon, obviously sooyoung was one of those kids.
"mom i was playing tag with jihyo and haseul."
mrs. ha wasn't fazed by her daughter's grumpiness, on the contrary she found it cute.
“well we talked about that earlier today right? you’d get to play outside for awhile before we go. you and i made a pinky promise on that.”
sooyoung nodded knowing her mom was right. a pinky promise is a pinky promise. it’s sacred and shall not be broken. that didn’t mean her pouting would stop though.
the mother noticed this after tying a bow around the girl’s hair. sooyoung was still the same pouty baby after all these years. she gave her a quick kiss on top of the head and showed her a smile.
“all done now. you look really pretty sooyoung.”
sooyoung smiled a little but immediately went back to pouting knowing that she shouldn’t give up that easily. she heard her mom chuckle.
“i saw a smile dear.”
that’s all it took for sooyoung to drop the pout and laugh along with her mom. they always did tell her she had the habit of pouting at everything.
“still my same pouty baby. momma promises to let you play all saturday if you behave, alright?”
just like any other child, sooyoung nodded several times happy at the thought of endless playtime. she heard her mom chuckle once more.
“dad’s waiting downstairs, ready to go?”
sooyoung nodded while her mom stood up and held her hand on their way out of her bedroom. her dad was waiting right there for them by the door. she let go of her mom’s hand and immediately rushed into her dad’s arms.
“someone’s excited.”
“i get to play all day on saturday!”
the husband glanced at his wife with an ‘is that so?’ look and laughed. mr. ha smiled back at his daughter who was beaming at the both of them.
“let’s go then. you ready sooyoungie?”
he put her down so they could walk outside. the girl held both of her parents hands as they strolled through the neighborhood.
“where are we going momma?”
“to meet mine and your dad’s old friends.”
“old like grandma and grandpa?”
the couple laughed at their daughter’s innocence.
“no sweetie, we mean our best friends from a long time ago.” mr. ha answered.
“like haseul and jihyo?”
“yeah. just like them.” the dad smiled. it was nice knowing that their daughter has already found good friends of her own.
“they have a daughter too sooyoungie. she’s just your age.”
“does she like playing outside as well?”
“her mom did say that she preferred staying at home because she was shy.”
“don’t worry momma, she won’t be shy anymore. i’ll play with her and be her friend.”
sooyoung looked up at her parents and nodded proudly. she wants to be a good friend to her parents’ friends’ daughter just like they are to them. they were in front of the house by the time sooyoung knew it. it only took a few minutes from their own.
her mom rang the doorbell as they waited outside. sooyoung was excited about meeting someone who can be her friend. although she did feel a little nervous, it didn’t hide her being ecstatic.
“does my bow look good dad? is it on the right spot?”
the couple once again laughed at how cute their child was. sooyoung was really endearing in her own way.
“you look good sweetie. the bow is just fine.” the assurance from her father made her a little less nervous. it took some time before the door opened, sooyoung didn’t take her yes off of it even for a split second. then it finally opened revealing a family similar to theirs only with a girl hiding behind her mom’s legs.
“time really has passed.” the adults started to exchange greetings with one another. sooyoung’s attention was on the other girl. she noticed they were done and had four set of eyes looking at her.
“hello, my name is sooyoung.” she greeted the family with a wave and a smile.
“hi sooyoung. nice to meet you.” the woman responded to her and the man next to her gave her a small smile. sooyoung then turned her sight onto the girl.
“honey, you should introduce yourself as well.” the man looked down to his daughter giving her some encouragement. after that, sooyoung swears she heard the softest voice she’s ever heard in her life.
“h-hi i’m jinsol.” the girl, similar to what sooyoung did earlier, waved but had her lips pressed together in a line before retracting immediately.
jinsol.
sooyoung will make sure to never forget that.
“nice to meet you, jinsol.”
she extends her hand out for her to shake. jinsol finally looks at her without nervously glancing away and slowly takes her hand.
“same here, sooyoung.” in that moment, sooyoung sees jinsol smile for the first time and it's beautiful.
