intrinsic

Summary:

Draken wouldn’t trade anything for the feeling of Mikey in his arms, leaning against his body, soaking in his warmth. It just felt so right. It felt so natural, yet so ethereal. It felt so essential, so crucial—as if his heart would stop beating if he were to let go.

Mikey had become such a big part of his life. No, Mikey had become a part of him. Being with him, feeling his touches, savoring his kisses, seeing his face—it was all a part of him, something he couldn’t live without. Being with Mikey was something that made Draken who he was, something intrinsic.

Work Text:

“Come here.”

Upon hearing the gentle request, Draken looked up from his phone to face his partner. Mikey sat comfortably on top of the bed they shared, nestled between blankets. Drowsiness pulled at Mikey’s eyelids, his face painted with an indigent pout. Draken smiled at the sight. Mikey was always too needy for his own good.

But Draken also craved the constant company of his partner. Despite their contrasting personalities, the two had many shared desires—most prominently, each other. That was what made them inseparable.

“I’m almost done ordering these parts. I’ll be right there,” Draken promised.

Mikey huffed, crossing his arms, “You’re always working these days! Come on, I need you here. You know I can’t sleep all alone.”

Although it was partially obscured by Mikey’s whiney tone, Draken caught a hint of sincere yearning dripping from his words. A spark of affection tugged pleasantly at his heart. “You need me, huh?”

Mikey rolled his eyes in response. “Stop teasing! Just finish up and get in bed.”

Draken was happy to oblige. After finalizing the orders, he switched off the lights and headed towards the bed.

“You’re sleeping on the right this time?” Mikey asked, sleepily rubbing his eyes.

“Yep.” The couple had gotten into the habit of alternating the sides on which they slept after they had noticed the mattress drooping disproportionately on one side. Unsurprisingly, it had been the left side—which Draken had once occupied daily.

Draken lifted the covers to climb into bed, and Mikey shifted to the left to provide him an adequate amount of space. He slid in between the soft sheets and cozy blankets, moving around slightly to find a comfortable position. Mikey’s body heat had already spread through the mattress and the blanket above, and Draken found himself lavished with Mikey’s warmth.

Draken felt a tender hand tug on his sleeve. He turned to face Mikey, who was laying next to him with his arms spread open.

“You know what to do,” Mikey playfully goaded him with a smile.

Draken sighed fondly, responding with a smile of his own. He carefully pulled Mikey into a snug embrace, holding him close enough to feel his body against his own but distant enough so that both of them were able to breathe. The two had agreed long ago that night-time cuddles were a vital part of their day, like eating or sleeping.

Mikey wasted no time moving into his usual position, lovingly pressing a cheek against Draken’s chest and draping an arm around his body. He hummed in satisfaction once he had cozily snuggled in beside his partner.

Ever since the first time he had held Mikey when they were confused teenagers, carefully testing boundaries and anxiously masking their mutual longing, Draken had known that he needed him.

The affectionate thoughts surging through Draken’s brain were begging to be let out, but Draken wasn't sure how to properly express them without sounding too cheesy. Mikey would definitely tease him if he did.

But maybe all he needed was a few simple words and actions. A long speech wasn't necessary to express his feelings. After all, Mikey already knew how much Draken loved him.

He tentatively ran a hand through Mikey’s hair and pressed a light but passionate kiss to the top of his head. Continuing to stroke Mikey's hair, he whispered a confession into the darkness, “I love you so much. I never want to leave you.”

There was a brief interval of silence before Mikey scooted upwards to meet Draken’s eyes, pressing his palms against his cheeks. And then he leaned in and gently pressed their lips together.

They had kissed many times before, but every time their lips met, Draken’s brain short-circuited just a little. The thrill that had surrounded their first kiss so many years ago had never disappeared. He cherished their kisses like the treasures they were.

When they pulled apart, both panting softly, Mikey smiled, gazing longingly into Draken’s eyes. His inky, usually stoic eyes were filled to the brim with nothing but pure love. When he opened his mouth, Draken didn’t have to think much to guess what phrase was about to come spilling out.

“I love you too.”

Notes:

This is probably one of the fluffiest, warmest, sappiest, sweetest things I've ever written. I'm so soft for Draken and Mikey😭💖

When I found the word "intrinsic" on Google, this idea spontaneously popped into my head. I don't know why my writer brain works this way, but I'm glad it does. I hope I actually used the word correctly!!
