Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a mental health condition. Someone with DID has multiple, distinct personalities. The various identities control a person’s behavior at different times. Each identity has its own personal history, traits, likes, and dislikes. The condition can cause memory loss, delusions or depression. DID is usually caused by past trauma
.DID can lead to gaps in memory and hallucinations (believing something is real when it isn’t).
DID used to be called multiple personality disorder or split personality disorder.
Before you read the story, let’s understand some terms first.
Host is the personality state that spends the most time out, interacting with the world.
Alters are the person’s alternate personalities. Some people with DID have up to 100 alters. Alters tend to be very different from one another. The identities might have different genders, ethnicities, interests and ways of interacting with their environments.
Integration is the blending of two or more alters.
Losing time is when people with Dissociative Identity Disorder experience dissociative amnesia, it often feels as though a chunk of time is missing. This can be anywhere from minutes to years.
System . People who have DID, refer to all alters of an individual with Dissociative Identity Disorder as a system. They are all really parts of one self, though they experience themselves separately.
Dissociative amnesia is a condition in which a person cannot remember important information about their life. The main symptom is memory loss that's more severe than normal forgetfulness and that can't be explained by a medical condition. You can't recall information about yourself or events and people in your life, especially from a traumatic time.
I will be focusing on simple terms, not trying to make anything complicated. Above information is taken from google though you can always research further on DID, multiple or split personalities.
Some people may experience their alters being with them throughout their life as they are a part of them, whereas some alters may integrate. I don’t really know how that works or if they have a cure or not. I have watched so many videos and read so much about it, simply cause it is so fascinated to me. But a part of me can relate to this, even though I am not diagnosed as such. I really wanted to write about it. Not to forget that my Nong gave me this prompt too.
I hope you can enjoy the story and happy reading! <3
