Chapter Text
The gates of hell have finally opened... For the millionth and second time, actually. You see, Diavolo is no new demon in the Devildom (Hell as the humans would say), and demons have gone to the human realm plenty of times, himself included, so seeing a portal pull a human through wasn't unordinary to see. Maybe it wasn't orthodox, but it wasn't unexpected, for Diavolo had planned this. A human, no, wizard human (human wizard?) already went through the process this human will face, a warm, estranged welcome into the rather dim realm to attend his academy.
This human, a young adult, scanned around delirious, amazed by the dreamy place they were pulled into. The gate behind them closed once they stepped through, disappearing, and their feet were unsteady. They did steady themselves rather quick though, just in time to adjust their sights on the man who sat before them. While the question of why am I here remained in their head, unbeknownst if this was some sort of lucid dream or shift, they took more care into noticing the features of this man. Dark burgundy hair against his dark skin, such interesting golden eyes, almost like a character they've drawn before. And then they glanced back around the room they were in for just a moment. It looked like some sort of courtroom; it had a long table with tall chairs neatly backed behind it, and behind was the wall which was full of designs, adorned with several tall, skinny windows letting in the moon glow. The human's attention was forced back onto the man from before, and they now noticed his bright red coat as he spoke.
"Welcome to the Devildom, Esemile (Ezz-eh-meal or ehs-uh-meal)," he greeted, offering a warm smile. "...Oh, pardon me. Feeling a bit shocked, are we? Well, that's understandable. You've only just arrived, after all. As you are a human, it might take some time for you to adjust to things here in the Devildom."
What was the Devildom? How does he know who this human is? It was a dream, it had to be.
"This is a dream, isn't it?"
The next thing the man said was not what Esemile was expecting. In fact, after some time to listen to the internet for virtually ever, they've heard stories of people getting into spontaneous lucid dreams and following their sudden epiphany up with 'this is a dream' to any character in the dream, and everyone gets vicious, or says the creepiest things after. Well...
"Hmm...what a very human thing to say."
A bummer, they were hoping to record a cool nightmare tonight.
"Outstanding!" he said, clasping his hands together with an even warmer smile, "I have a feeling you might just be the sort of person we're looking for. I suppose I should introduce myself," he stood from his seat and placed a hand over his chest where the heart would be.
Esemile felt shorter when he stood. He seems to tower over them, and they wish they could control this dream in their favor to tower over him.
"My name is Diavolo. I am the ruler of all demons, and all of the Devildom knows of me. And, some day soon I will be crowned King of the Devildom."
Immediately, Esemile imagined this was becoming one of those demon-world, isekai anime they've watched plenty of, of course with some form of slice-of-life. A demon? He looks mostly human though! Round ears, normal head hair, normal complexion...
"This is the Royal academy of Diavolo," he gestures with his hand, panning around the room from where he stood, beside his chair, "Though, we just call it RAD for short."
Radical, thought Esemile.
"You're standing inside the assembly hall, the very heart of RAD. It's where we officers of the student council hold our meetings and conduct our business. I'm the president of the council."
With all the other thoughts that have been buzzing in Esemile's noggin, the biggest concern on their mind had finally been voiced, "So, how...why am I here? I don't mean to be rude asking that. I just don't...understand?" Even they felt confused asking the question, because everything Diavolo had spoken of sounded so planned, calculated, prepared like being toured by the campus leader at a community college they went to and applied for. It sounded like they shouldn't be confused.
"I will explain everything to you," another voice said. He came forward. He was holding paperwork and sat down those papers before Diavolo, neatly. Esemile also curiously paid attention to this man—demon's features, like his black hair, cut short, his black eyes as dark as his hair. When he looked to Esemile, they noticed his eyes shifted to a red color. His coat was a dark gray, or a faded black. He contrasted Diavolo so much with his colors, but he stood just as tall. It was worse when he approached Esemile after.
"Esemile, this is Lucifer. He is a demon like me, and not just any demon. He is one of the 7 rulers of Hell, the Avatar of Pride, if you will. He's also the vice president of the student council, and my right-hand-man. Not just in title, I assure you. Beyond that, he is also my trusted friend," Diavolo spoke with confidence, he has been since the introduction began, but when Lucifer appeared, he seemed more joyous and confident than before.
Lucifer sighed so softly, Esemile barely picked up the sound, "Flattery will get you nowhere, Diavolo," Lucifer's voice wasn't at Diavolo's volume, not as if Diavolo was loud or anything, but it seemed gentler and calmer. Lucifer's eyes were on Diavolo for that moment before turning back to the shorter human before him. "Speaking on behalf of the entire student body at this grand and storied academy of ours," his lips curled up into a smile, "I offer you a most heartfelt welcome, Esemile."
