Ukiyo ( 浮世)
ーliving in the moment. detached from the bothers of life.
“The Floating World”.
Ω
1:
I held him,
it felt like the entire universe was in my arms,
I didn't want to let go
Since he remembered, Wooyoung wanted to be an omega.
His big brother and father were both alphas, and they were great, yet the only thing Wooyoung wished was to present as an omega.
The reason behind it was his mother; the most beautiful and brave person in the whole world. Wooyoung had admired her since he was just a pup and walked the streets of their neighborhood holding her hand. Her mother was nothing but amazing.
She was funny, sassy, beautiful, eloquent, and incredible in every aspect. She stood her ground with confidence when it was necessary, not lowering her gaze for everyone, not even the scariest alphas. Wooyoung’s mom was able to prepare the most tasty meals, things that Wooyoung would never get tired of eating, and she would share the funniest and most interesting stories when it was bedtime. Just with a smile and a kiss, she was able to heal a wounded knee and just one hug from her was enough to put the pieces of broken heart back in place.
Wooyoung grew up observing the way in which his mother interacted with his father. There was nothing but love and adoration there. It was special the way in which they treated each other like friends, but at the same time they were lovers.
He wished the same for himself.
Wooyoung wanted to be an omega because his mother was one and she was the coolest person on Earth.
He didn't care what any other person could say.
Alphas were able to run faster? It didn't matter because Wooyoung was the fastest in his class and being an omega was not going to change that. Alphas were stronger? Bullshit, honestly, Wooyoung had met weak alphas too. Alphas have more power? It could be because they were living in an archaic society that was full of bullshit, but Wooyoung was prepared to face it.
In Wooyoung’s opinion, omegas were better than alphas and he counted the days until puberty, when the first cycle of your sub-gender appeared.
While growing up a lot of people, even doctors, commented that he was going to present as an alpha. The main reason for that was that statistically, male omegas were scarce and his big brother was an alpha. Added to that, Wooyoung stood out in sports and he was too loud, too confident and extroverted.
It seemed like those were qualities just for alphas.
“And what about Park Sungho?” Wooyoung had once asked, after leaving the doctor’s office with his parents.
It was the annual checkup.
Wooyoung was seven at the time.
“What about him?” His father had asked with a gentle smile, holding his left hand while his mother held his right one.
“He is an omega and a boy.” Wooyoung explained, exasperated. “And he is a black belt in Taekwondo. He was so cool at the Olympics!”
“Oh.”
“So, he is an omega, a boy…” Wooyoung counted, looking up to his parents. “And he is good at sports.”
“Oh, baby,” his mother had said, balancing their arms in a playful manner. “Only time will tell. We will still love you. That's the most important thing.”
As a kid Wooyoung thought about being a sportsman. However, once a teenager he decided that being an idol was his real call after falling in love with dancing.
For no particular reason but because of Park Jimin and BTS, Wooyoung joined BigHit in order to start his training as an idol.
Wooyoung danced until his legs and arms were trembling, and he sang until his throat ached. He met a lot of people; some of them went away fast and others stayed with him, turning into close friends. It was like that he was able to meet both Yeonjun and Yeosang, and Wooyoung enjoyed being close to them although they were opposite to each other. Wooyoung felt like everything was possible if he had support from friends. His dreams were just in front of him. Moreover, at the time it was easier to be friends because they were young and nobody had presented yet.
Labels were still annoying and dangerous, more in the industry.
Yeonjun presented first as an alpha
Wooyoung was able to notice the changes in him; the slight possessiveness, the playfulness, the confidence, the way of standing inside a room and how moody he was the first week after presenting. Yeonjun had always been confident, after all, he was talented in almost every aspect so there was no reason for him to feel insecure. He was first in their ranking of skills, but still, presenting as an alpha added another coin to his jar full of gold.
The company was more than just happy with the news.
Honestly, since Wooyoung had followed BTS’s journey to success he assumed the company was a good one because everyone seemed nice and the staff and the members acted more like family than anything else. However, when Wooyoung observed the staff’s reaction to Yeonjun being an alpha he felt something close to disappointment.
He was happy for his friend, but the way in which the word alpha was being used as a synonym for success didn't sit well with him.
“Our first alpha,” one of them said, patting Yeonjun on the back. “Good, good.”
“And you're going to be tall!”
“Great!”
Such a reaction was to be expected, after all alphas were more common in boy groups while omegas were more accepted and common in girl groups. For Wooyoung it was a stupid differentiation and he hated how old fashioned that way of labelling was, yet for them it was a reality they needed to face. For example, BTS were a group composed mostly by alphas, with the only exceptions being Min Yoongi and Wooyoung’s forever loved one: Jimin.
The first one was a surprise for everyone.
Thus, the fact Yeonjun was an alpha made it easier for him to have a secure spot in the future group BigHit was creating. Wooyoung had heard trainees talking about it and how there was the rumor that the next group was going to be composed by alphas only.
Wooyoung had never been worried about that because, if he needed to prove his worth, then he was going to work twice as hard.
While the superiors praised Yeonjun, Yeosang mumbled: “Bastards.”
It had been so out of character for Yeosang to talk like that that Wooyoung got surprised. When he turned around to look at his friend, Yeosang had his usual calm face and didn't seem like he was paying attention to the situation.
“What?” Yeosang had asked when he noticed Wooyoung was looking at him.
“Oh, uhm…” Wooyoung smiled and shook his head. “Nothing.”
Probably, it was Wooyoung’s imagination.
Then, without telling him about it, Yeosang left the company. Of course, Wooyoung didn't understand his decision because they had decided to debut together. They were going to be successful together! So, Wooyoung couldn't understand how Yeosang had done that. There was no way in which he had broken a promise.
Yeonjun hadn't been that surprised:
“He was having a hard time here, Woo.” They were sitting on the floor of the practice room and Wooyoung was looking at Yeonjun’s chat, noticing he hadn't read his messages. “The teachers were pressuring him a lot.”
“Uhm?
“Because…” Yeonjun was uncomfortable and surprised. “You know, because of his voice and since he probably is going to present as an omega… He was too shy and didn't stand that much… That's what I heard one teacher telling him once. Uhm, come on, you didn't know? You two seemed so close.”
No.
Wooyoung didn't know.
Betrayal turned into embarrassment and embarrassment into angryness.
Wooyoung had always been a stubborn person so, of course he followed him to another company. Thus, he was the last member to join a new, almost unknown company without any other group under their name: KQ. It was a challenge and quite scary, but Wooyoung was positive and he was more than happy to be able to hug Yeosang again.
Wooyoung had entered the room full of seven trainees feeling like his legs were made of jelly, but then he smiled and bowed in greeting:
“I'm Jung Wooyoung, from Ilsan! Nice to meet you! I hope we can get along!”
Everything is going to be alright , he said to himself.
It could be scary being the last addition to a group that was already used to their routine, but Wooyoung didn't consider himself as someone who follows common rules. For that reason, he didn't mind entering conversations without being invited, asking about other’s lives and playing around.
There Wooyoung met the first trainee of KQ and in a way, the starting point for their future group: Kim Hongjoong.
Wooyoung would never forget the first impression Hongjoong gave him. It was of someone serious and calm, even more quiet than Yeosang. It seemed like Hongjoong had a difficult time getting along with others and everytime Wooyoung talked or moved around their dorm, Hongjoong had that look in his eyes that made Wooyoung think of an older brother gathering patience to bear with his younger brother.
“Serious?” San had repeated while laughing. It was just the two of them in the practice room because that night they were in charge of cleaning. “Hyung being serious?”
Wooyoung scoffed. “Come on! He is! He is always scolding us and never talks with me. Honestly, I think the only times in which he talks to me is to tell me: “Wooyoung-ah, don’t yell”, “Wooyoung-ah, go to sleep, now” or “Wooyoung, pay attention”.”
San bursted in another laugh, supporting his body on the broom.
Impersonification was one of Wooyoung’s talents, okay?
“Oh, that was amaaazing!”
“But, come on, he is, isn't he?” Wooyoung pouted, holding the second broom and moving it around in circles. “He is like…”
Wooyoung couldn't find the right word to describe him.
At that moment, San finally stopped laughing and pressed his chin on top of the broom. He seemed deep in thought.
“Hyung can look serious…” He whispered and smiled, turning to look at Wooyoung. “But he is really kind. I have known him for some time already and he works really, really hard. He always worries about the rest of us and well, he is pretty funny and cute when you talk to him. This is a secret, okay? So don't tell anyone.”
In silence, Wooyoung nodded.
“I heard from the staff that when Yunho joined the company Hongjoong was really happy. Like, reaaaally .” San shrugged and started moving the broom again. “He wanted to be friends with Yunho so much. I suppose it makes sense, hyung was the first one to get here and this company didn't want trainees. He was the youngest and from what I heard, hyung didn't even know how to use a computer to produce. And on top of that, he is an omega.”
Wooyoung looked at San’s small figure moving around. Inside him, he felt something close to embarrassment blooming.
“It must have been pretty lonely.”
“Okay, well…, but that doesn't explain him not speaking to me.”
“Oh, well, hyung is pretty quiet and organized. And…” At that moment, San had giggled and used the side of the broom to hit Wooyoung on the leg. “You're pretty loud! Can be quite annoying, actually."
Since then, Wooyoung started trying to understand Hongjoong better. He observed him with attention and carefulness, trying to see how Hongjoong moved around the world and how he interacted with others.
Wooyoung found himself liking what he saw.
Hongjoong was not the type of person he had imagined and when Wooyoung understood that in order to get closer he had to slow down a bit, getting closer to the other omega was easy. After all, although Wooyoung was able to be friends with Yeosang with his usual tactics it didn't mean Hongjoong was the same.
Hongjoong was an introvert, while Yeosang was shy.
Hongjoong, who had a passion for producing and creating all types of art. Hongjoong, who forced himself to mature, who made sure of taking care of each one of them and was strict but gentle at the same time. Hongjoong, who started learning English because he knew how important it was for them to communicate, especially with the growing popularity of kpop around the world. Hongjoong, who was the owner of a pretty face and reserved personality, the type of person who avoided hugs and touches at all times.
Kim Hongjoong: their leader, main producer, rapper, vegetables-hater, and an omega.
During his life, Wooyoung had met a lot of different omegas who were pretty and had caught his eyes. There was no other reason that Wooyoung enjoyed admiring something beautiful. Sometimes when he was buying groceries he would see a cute omega and think exactly that, however in relation to Hongjoong it had been different since the first interaction they had. Although Hongjoong spoke with a sharp speech, Wooyoung couldn't stop his cheeks from getting warm and his heart from going faster.
Was it a crush?
It started like one.
A little, silly crush.
Hongjoong was mature and cool, he seemed older than he really was and when he focused on something Wooyoung loved observing his features.
They were different in more than one aspect; Hongjoong was quiet while Wooyoung was loud, Hongjoong had a hard time speaking to people while Wooyoung didn't have problem making friends from different groups, Hongjoong kept quiet while Wooyoung was loud, Hongjoong shivered when someone tried to hug him while Wooyoung grew up hugging and kissing his friends.
Hongjoong prefered EXO while Wooyoung was an ARMY.
When Wooyoung doubted, Hongjoong wasn't scared of speaking his mind.
The fact Wooyoung developed a crush on the other omega seemed like more than just destiny.
It was a daily desperation because Wooyoung always wanted to be close to him, touch him, talk with him, or just goof around. Since they were working for the same company and group, they shared a lot of time together but most of it was only for work related things. Nevertheless, Wooyoung noticed himself always wanting to catch Hongjoong’s attention.
There was nothing better but (trying) to cuddle the older omega.
Hongjoong had an addictive smell! Something frutish that made Wooyoung remember summer.
Weeks and months went like that.
Finally, Wooyoung fell in love with Hongjoong.
It was made to be.
Time never stopped for them.
One morning, Wooyoung woke up covered in sweat and with a horrible fever that woke him up in pain. For a brief moment after opening his eyes, Wooyoung thought he was going to die because such an uncomfortable and painful feeling shouldn't be normal, but everyone knew what was happening so they acted upon it.
Wooyoung was finally presenting.
San had run around the dorm, nervously trying to call their manager to notice him about the situation and make the necessary arrangements.
One of them presenting wasn't out of the ordinary because almost everyone in ATEEZ had their sub-genders already, the last ones being Wooyoung and Jongho, their maknae.
“You're going to be okay, Wooyoung.” Hongjoong had said with a soothing voice, his fingers caressing his wet head.
Wooyoung couldn't tell at what moment Hongjoong had entered the room, but Wooyoung remembered how crazy it made him feel.
He wanted to cuddle the older, bury his face on his neck, breathe his skin and kiss him until both of them ended up out of breath. Wooyoung wanted to touch and mark Hongjoong’s body and even more (how embarrassing), he wanted to hump Hongjoong’s thigh to release the pressure inside his abdomen.
“Don't worry. You're okay.”
Wooyoung had never been so hot in his entire life, not even in the warmest summer without AC.
“Deep breaths, Young-ah, deep breaths-”
“I called the manager!”
“Okay, San. Thank… u…” Wooyoung couldn't listen properly. It felt like everyone was far away from him. He could notice when Hongjoong’s hands disappeared.
Wooyoung sobbed and moved on the bed.
“Sta… with hi…”
Wooyoung fought to keep his eyes open and focus his vision, but everything was going around in circles. San and Hongjoong were still there with him, obviously, since they were the only omegas of their group so they were able to take care of Wooyoung without reacting. For precautions, alphas were forced to leave the dorm until the worst part of the heat passed.
They trusted each other to death, but they were still young and controlling your sub-gender could be a pain. They couldn't risk having an incident in such a small space.
“But hyung, what…”
“We will…” Hongjoong’s voice was too far. Too far, too far, too much distance. Wooyoung needed him by his side, but he couldn't move to put him closer, his body was not responding to him. The only thing Wooyoung could do was keep laying on the bed and occasionally move a little. “And until that…”
Whimpering, Wooyoung had closed his eyes.
The rest was just a blur.
There was no way of telling the time. Sometimes, Wooyoung could feel something cold pressing against his face and neck. It seemed like someone also helped him change his clothes and drink something, but he couldn't tell who it was.
Finally, the heat was over and Wooyoung had his sub-gender.
As he always wished for, he was an omega.
However, facing that new reality and overwhelmed with all the emotions, Wooyoung ended up crying against San’s chest. His friend was only able to hug him, trying to calm him down with soothing words and caressing his back, but it was impossible.
Wooyoung felt like his whole world was destroyed and at the same time, his heart had gotten ripped into tiny pieces.
Suddenly, Wooyoung found himself cursing at his entire existence and hating himself:
“I don't want this. I don't want it. I don't want it.” He kept babbling between sobs.
The other omega tried his best comforting him without knowing what the actual problem was.
Everyone knew Wooyoung wanted to be an omega and such a change of mind was weird, to say the least.
“Woo, this is fine. Trust me. It’s not bad-”
“It's the worst! I’m the worst!”
Wooyoung couldn't stop.
“I want to be an alpha!” Like a crazy man, Wooyoung exploded. A part of himself, probably the omega inside, saddened. Presumably, being able to feel the rejection. “I need to be an alpha. I-”
“Young-ah, you don't need to be nothing, just you. You are perfect just like this.” San tried again, pressing him closer and using his pheromones. It was like Wooyoung was nothing but a pup that San was trying to calm down. “You are going to be fine. It's not the end of the world, you see? Besides, our CEO is really kind and he doesn't mind about omegas in a boy group.”
Wooyoung sobbed and shook his head.
San thought Wooyoung was nervous about being kicked out of the group for being an omega.
“The managers and our staff are cool too. Everyone here is supporting you, Woo. Please, don't cry.”
Feeling manic for a brief moment, Wooyoung was just one step away from yelling at his friend and pushing him away.
Wooyoung was so mad at the moment and it was frustrating the fact that San didn't understand the hell Wooyoung was living in.
He chuckled.
“You don't get it.”
He kept sobbing and crying.
Due to omegas being cool and pretty, Wooyoung always wanted to be one. Always. Then, he met Kim Hongjoong, another omega who caught his heart without trying.
Then, when he was eighteen, Wooyoung’s first heat happened and his world turned into hell.
Wooyoung couldn't even blame Hongjoong.
The boy never did anything with the intention of making Wooyoung like him.
It was just Hongjoong being himself.
Wooyoung cursed himself because that stupid, silly crush grew into something stronger, and he couldn't even try to court his hyung because there was no way an omega would want an omega back.
Ω
With his back covered in sweat, hair stuck to his face and his skin feeling hot to even the faint touch, Wooyoung groaned and thrust harder than before to completely bury himself inside the delicious heat.
The mixture of lust and euphoria was addictive and it made Wooyoung restless in his movements. He was desperate to touch, please, mark, and possess.
Wooyoung looked below him and saw Hongjoong’s beautiful expression. The boy had his eyes closed, mouth parted open, and his cheeks were wet not only with the sweat but also the tears created for all the pleasure. Such a masterpiece didn't even stop there because Hongjoong’s body was covered in hickeys, bites and fingerprints made by Wooyoung himself. Hongjoong had such delicate and immaculate skin most of the time that Wooyoung couldn't help himself but ruin it.
Although their heights were similar, Hongjoong had always felt smaller against Wooyoung. The feeling grew in intensity when they were pressed against each other, Wooyoung felt nothing but powerful and strong.
Having his hyung under him like that shouldn't be that addictive, but it was.
Wooyoung smirked and followed a rythm of thrusts to fuck him. He did it harder than before, almost like he wanted to make his hyung remember everything that was happening there. Wooyoung wanted to train Hongjoong’s body to respond to his tactics.
Arching his back, Hongjoong moaned loudly, his whole body moving against the mattress since he didn't have a way of holding onto something. Hongjoong’s hands were useless at each side of his head, locked under Wooyoung’s own ones.
He didn't want his hyung touching himself without his permission.
“A-Ah! Fu-Fuck, Wooyoung!”
“Yeah? Do you like it, hyung?” Wooyoung asked, his smirk never leaving his face. He kept jackhammering his cock in Hongjoong’s hole and the omega was making a disaster in the bed, a puddle of slick forming below them. “Do you like having your hole stretched open, uhm? Do you enjoy how full you are? Look at you, I completly fucked you dumb, didn't I?”
Hongjoong tried moving his hands but Wooyoung didn't allow it. He held him harder and pistoned his hips like a machine.
“Did I fuck you dumb, hyung?”
“W-Wait, wait! Too much! I-.”
“You teased me the whole day, hyuuung.” Wooyoung giggled and lowered his head to get closer to the omega, the tip of their noses touching. “Parading yourseful like a bitch in heat. Someone could believe that you are okay with anyone fucking you.” Stopping his movements, Wooyoung growled. Hongjoong whined and Wooyoung felt how he clenched around his cock. “Maybe you are? Are you okay with anyone fucking you?”
“Nu-Nuh, no, no, no.”
“‘You sure?”
“Just you.” Hongjoong was looking at him with tears in his eyes and lips trembling. He looked so cute that Wooyoung wanted to coo, but he fought the feeling to keep his expression serene because he needed to make sure that Hongjoong was his. He needed the boy to know he was only for him. “Just Wooyoungie, just you, just you. Pleas’ , please fuck me… I…”
“Yeah? You're mine, right? Only mine.” Wooyoung released the other’s hands and held his face with one. Hongjoong looked at him with big eyes and a dizzy expression that made him think he was almost already gone. Hongjoong was too drunk in pleasure and dick to think properly. “So dumb, so cute, so precious… My beautiful, beautiful hyung. Everything in you is cute, even your cock.” Wooyoung laughed at Hongjoong’s shy expression and the way his face turned redder than before. “Nobody can see you like this… Only me. I am the only one allowed to have you like this, you know that, right, hyung?”
Wooyoung squeezed Hongjoong’s face harder, looking at the way his mouth made a pout and how the only thing that Hongjoong was doing was looking at him with that lost gaze.
So ethereal…
Wooyoung wanted to be by his side everyday, for the rest of their lives.
“No one else, uhm. Say it.” Wooyoung growled again and squeezed harder. Hongjoong whimpered and moved below him, making him hiss because of the sensation. “Say it, hyung. You're mine.”
Hongjoong opened his mouth to answer but then-
“Uh?”
Wooyoung observed how Hongjoong was moving his mouth, but he couldn't hear him. There was an annoying sound in the background, strong enough to be a distraction. Wooyoung looked around, trying to find the source of that stupid noise, but not finding anything. For a moment he thought it was from one of the other’s rooms, but it couldn't be possible because he thought they were alone in the dorm.
He squeezed his eyes, noticing the sound getting louder and louder-
Wooyoung opened his eyes to his room.
Feeling exhausted, Wooyoung placed one hand below his pillow to fetch his phone, aiming to cut the alarm going off. That fucking noise was making his head ache.
With a groan Wooyoung pressed his face against the pillow, closing his eyes.
A dream.
It was just a dream. An amazing one, to be honest. Wooyoung could still feel the sensation of Hongjoong’s skin under him, and he remembered the way his face had looked, however, now that he was okay it was getting harder to remember.
Wooyoung was not even sure how his mind was able to come up with those scenarios, but he wasn't complaining.
It was just a little sad coming back to the lonely reality.
“Uhm, good morning to you too, Young-ah.”
Wooyoung closed his eyes stronger and groaned against the fabric of the pillow. He was sure the room’s lights were turned on because he could hear the soft click.
San wasn't a morning person exactly. None of them were, but San was one of the first ones to wake up because he had more discipline than the rest. Probably, San got earlier today to do some stretches and exercise.
“I know this is not nice to hear but you need to wake up and…” By the sound of the steps Wooyoung knew San was getting closer. His voice was lower than before: “You should take a shower. Like reaaally take a shower. You reek, Woo. I'm not judging and I'm not asking, but please, do us all a favor and clean yourself.”
Wooyoung scoffed and turned his head to the side, now pressing his cheek against the pillow. San was looking at him, already dressed in some joggers and a gray shirt. The two of them just looked at each other, until Wooyoung whimpered and tossed around like a kid.
Some things fell from his bed.
“It was so real, Sannie! It’s not fair!” Wooyoung fake sobbed, but he was really feeling the pain in his heart. “It was amazing, by the way. We-”
“I don't wanna know.”
“But! I swear this was super good-”
“I don't wanna know!” San shouted and Wooyoung huffed. “Go and take a shower before the rest wakes up for real.”
Wooyoung sighed and for a moment thought about annoying San some more, but then he moved his legs and noticed how uncomfortable he was feeling, his cock was hard and there was some wetness between his inner glutes.
Yep. Nothing more like a good shower to clean that freaking mess.
It would be embarrassing for Wooyoung having San (and honestly the rest of the boys) see him (or smell him, how disgusting) like that, but well, they were eight boys full of hormones living together in a small space. They needed to share bedrooms, even when they were not toddlers anymore. They had seen almost everything from the other.
Carefully, Wooyoung stood up while trying to fix his clothes to at least cover the disaster below his waist but San got the message and climbed to the upper bunk, just laying there, hugging his plushie and sticking his face to his phone.
While searching for clean clothes, Wooyoung asked:
“How early did you wake up today?”
Underwear, a shirt, joggers. That would do.
“Today? At five.” Wooyoung blinked and looked at him in horror, but San was too busy typing something on his phone. “Went to do some exercise and practice a little.”
“You're crazy.” He closed their closet; the mess inside should be hidden from the rest of the world. “Did you have breakfast?”
In response San shook his head. Wooyoung was ready to scold him for that, even though it could make him look like a hypocrite, but before whatever could leave his mouth, San said: “I was waiting for you. Let's have breakfast together. We haven't done that in a while.”
There was a moment of silence in which they just looked at the other. Wooyoung’s mind was running at fast speed, trying to find a conclusion to the situation. Different arguments were running around filled with some keywords such as: diet, skinnier, and ugly.
Wooyoung thought some more, until San’s face started to transform into a worried expression.
Finally, Wooyoung smiled. The same goofy smile that was the answer for all the difficult situations he could face.
“Sure! I will be fast.”
He left the room before something more could be said.
Although Wooyoung said that he was going to be quick, once inside the bathroom he couldn't help but take his time. He left the dirty clothes on one side, making a mental note to do the laundry later today, and tried hard to not look at himself in the mirror. Stepping in the shower, the first thing he did was washing each part of himself with one of the soaps that were there. He didn't care to even look if it was his or Yunho’s, the goal was getting himself clean.
He ended up thinking about his dream.
It wasn't the first time he had those types of dreams and Wooyoung knew it wasn't going to be the last time either. Of course, more than once he had looked at Hongjoong and imagined dirty scenarios between the two of them. Wooyoung had a great imagination for those kinds of things. He knew it wasn't a good thing to do, more than once feeling guilty after them, and if Hongjoong knew about it probably he…
Wooyoung closed his eyes and let the water run down his body.
He didn't want to think about that, but it was difficult to ignore it.
Everyone knew Hongjoong wasn't a skinship fan. Honestly, even something as innocent as hugs made him cringe and get as tense as a rock. Wooyoung sometimes tried to kiss him, of course as a “joke” in front of the cameras (and for himself, like a real way to deal with his feelings) and Hongjoong’s face always transformed into something sour. Naturally, Wooyoung laughed, trying to be casual about the whole thing and just mentioning how cute his hyung was. But it was painful to observe and know that Hongjoong would never, in a million years, look at him the same way Wooyooung did.
Wooyoung knew that those actions didn't mean Hongjoong hated him. It was the way he was. He knew Hongjoong loved him deeply and if he needed him, Hongjoong would be there for him; like a brother, a friend, a hyung, someone who was going to protect him, but never like a mate, never a lover, never a special other and thinking about that harsh reality was always painful.
His dreams and imagination were the only places where Wooyoung could be with Hongjoong. Perhaps it was pathetic, but he didn't care.
In dreams Wooyoung was happier.
However, Wooyoung had noticed that sometimes in his dreams he was an alpha. He could tell because of the characteristics of their interactions.
Coming back to the reality where both of them were omegas was like walking straight into a window and banging his head.
Wooyoung knew there were couples with the same sub-gender. It wasn't anormal today. He had even read about some celebrities in other countries freely talking about their partners. However, in South Korea it was still a taboo and out of question. Some activists tried to talk about the topic, but they were the minimum and not idols or actors. Never famous people because that would be too risky.
Besides, they were still newbies to the industry.
Wooyoung would kill himself if, because of him, ATEEZ suffered the consequences. If their failure was his fault, Wooyoung wouldn't be able to live with himself.
It would even be an obstacle between Hongjoong and his dreams.
Wooyoung couldn't risk it.
When you were a celebrity, even dating was a difficult thing in companies. Dating inside their groups was almost forbidden, for that reason a lot of companies had rules about it.
An omega dating an omega when both of them were idols from the same group? Unbelievable.
So, Wooyoung had to convince himself everyday that it was never going to happen.
But it was okay. Really.
At least every day he was able to see Hongjoong’s happy face. At least, they were together in the morning and at night. Wooyoung could look at him in his cute pajamas and see how pouty he was when he was hungry or sleepy. Wooyoung could admire how hard working Hongjoong was when creating music or rapping, and the way in which he looked bare faced and sweaty after practices.
It was fine.
At least Wooyoung could be beside him, taking care of him in his own way and loving him in silence or be loud about it, disguising it as brotherly love. At least, Wooyoung could hug him or cuddle with him in a nest, when Wooyoung was feeling touchy and Hongjoong, like a good leader and hyung, decided that it was okay to do that because that was what the older omega should do. Wooyoung didn't have a mate that could help him when he was close to his heat, so fellow friends could do and all the alphas were too respectful to be close to Wooyoung when he was like that, even Yeosang. And in those moments, when Wooyoung could bury his face in Hongjoong’s neck and breath on his skin, he felt more alive than ever. He could almost dream that it was his reality.
Sometimes Wooyoung felt guilty about it, because he felt like he was taking advantage of Hongjoong’s good intentions, but well.
Love could be both selfless and selfish.
Three knocks on the door took him out of his mind. Wooyoung shook his head and coughed to clear his throat. Loudly, he asked: “Yeah?”
“It's me.” Jongho’s voice came from the other side. “Can I come in? I need my toothbrush.”
“Go ahead!”
The door was opened and Wooyoung could see Jongho’s dark figure going around the bathroom. How curious that their maknae was the next one to wake up because he was a sleepy head.
Grinning, Wooyoung poked his wet head from the side of the curtain. Jongho was standing in front of the fogged mirror, putting toothpaste on his toothbrush.
“Don't you wanna shower with me, our maknae?” Wooyoung could see Jongho’s body tensing and his things almost falling from his hands. A laugh left his mouth because of his reaction. “I'm joking!”
“Shit, hyung!” Jongho turned over to look at him, probably a reaction without thinking but then they made eye contact and Wooyoung could notice the way his cheeks turned red. Jongho grabbed his toothbrush and left the place in a hurry, slamming the door behind himself. “You're an idiot!”
Wooyoung kept laughing.
It was always fun teasing their maknae. Although Jongho was an alpha, he was too shy about it. Their baby alpha, like they liked to call him.
He was respectful, a really good thing. Wooyoung was sure that whoever ended up mating him was going to be a lucky person.
It could be so easy if you have the right sub-gender.
Wooyoung stepped out of the shower and slowly dried himself. He admired his legs and abdomen; it was similar to the one of an alpha.
He always wanted to be an omega, but now that Wooyoung was stuck in this situation he couldn't understand the differences between him and the rest. Of course, there was a biological part like, for example, omegas needing a knot during their heats and Wooyoung as an omega himself couldn't do that. If he dated Hongjoong, that could be an obstacle.
Nevertheless, today there were different sex toys that could help with it.
“Maybe I should stop thinking about that.” Wooyoung mumbled to himself, drying his hair with a towel. “I’ll just make myself sad.”
And Wooyound decided that today was not a blue day.
He hummed and stepped out of the bathroom, feeling better after cleaning both his mind and body. But, before he could take any other step another body collided against him.
Arms were wrapped around his neck and someone was burying his face on his neck.
Startled, Wooyoung didn't have enough time to process or react. The situation was so bizarre that for a moment he was sure he was still dreaming, but there was no mistake. Hongjoong was hugging him.
Hongjoong.
He, out of nowhere and without a reason, was hugging and pressing his face against Wooyoung’s neck. And Wooyound was unable to react because he couldn't understand what was happening there.
Wooyoung blinked, heart beating faster and fingers twitching. For the first time in his life, he wasn't hugging someone back.
He was stunned like that.
“E-Eh? Hyung?”
“Uhmmm, Wooyoungie.” Hongjoong’s voice was low and hoarse. The lock he had on his neck was getting stronger, putting them closer. Wooyoung felt his skin getting goosebumps because of the tickling feeling. He could feel the tip of Hongjoong’s nose caressing his sensitive skin and his hot breath. “You smell gud’...”
“Eh?”
“You smell reaaally good today, Youngie.” Hongjoong kept talking and gently, rubbed his face on his neck. “I like ‘t.”
Wooyoung was going to have a heart attack.
Feeling his throat dry, Wooyoung swallowed. Slowly, he raised his arms to hug Hongjoong closer to him.
This was not a dream.
Hongjoong was there.
He was the one hugging him and pressing himself against Wooyoung’s body like this was a normal situation between the two of them.
This was another level.
In a way, oh shit, in a way Hongjoong was suddenly acting as if Wooyoung was his mate . There was no mistake, his behavior was like the one of an omega searching for the comfort of their partner.
Before Wooyoung could fully place his hands on Hongjoong’s back, Seonghwa appeared from one of the bedrooms. In his hands he was carrying clothes and when he noticed the scene, he held them below his arm. Without any further exchange, Wooyoung observed how his hyung carefully took Hongjoong by the shoulders, taking him away from him.
Wooyoung felt like growling and showing his teeth, full of rage and possessiveness for such a rude display. But Wooyoung was able to control himself before he did something stupid. There was no reason for him to get mad at Seonghwa. The only thing he could do was observe how Seonghwa held a barely awake Hongjoong, trying to keep him standing straight.
Hongjoong with his eyes still closed, pouted and groaned.
“Easy there, Joong-ah.” Seonghwa turned to Wooyoung, who could only stand there like an idiot and was still surprised by the situation. “Sorry, Wooyoung. Hongjoong hasn't been sleeping at all and now he is well, sleep deprived. He doesn't know what he is doing.”
“Uh?”
Ah, of course.
Hongjoong was just sleep deprived and had no idea what he was doing.
Sure.
“Ah!” Wooyoung forced a smile and then a laugh, acting nonchalant. At the noise, Hongjoong squeezed his eyes stronger and tried to press his body against Seonghwa. “Ah, hyung… He is so careless. I will tease him about this later because, you see, he looked really cute. He will not believe it if I just tell him.”
Wooyoung kept laughing and for a brief moment he thought it was obvious how fake he was being, however Seonghwa seemed to buy it because he didn't look twice at him.
He stopped his (fake) laugh and looked how Seonghwa was practically helping Hongjoong walk to the bathroom.
At that, alarms started running inside his head, loudly telling Wooyoung that he should go and stop that. Honestly, not only him but even his wolf wanted to stop the situation. Wooyoung pictured himself telling Seonghwa that today he was going to be one helping Hongjoong because he was the only person who could look at his naked body or see him in such a vulnerable state.
Nevertheless, the only thing that left his mouth was: “Do you need help, hyung?”
Wooyoung cringed at his own voice because he tasted how uncaring it sounded and the question seemed so easy-going, like he was not even concerned about the scene.
To an outsider, Wooyoung would just appear like a good dongsaeng wanting to help his hyung. Nothing more.
In response, Seonghwa smiled at him with his hands still full with Hongjoong.
“It's fine, Young-ah. You should hurry and have breakfast.”
“But-”
But.
For Wooyoung there was always a ‘but’.
“I have everything under control.” Seonghwa said again with a tone of voice that didn't give space to more arguments. “Really, I don't mind. Go.”
The bathroom door was closed and standing in the middle of the hallway, Wooyoung tried not to think about the emotions he was feeling and how frustrated his wolf was inside. It was horrible and painful, feeling it whimpering and growling, almost howling while trying to call its mate.
But it's not yours, Wooyoung tried to remind his wolf and himself.
He is. He is ours.
Wooyoung tried hard to stop himself from imagining what was going to happen inside that room; of course, nothing dirty because Seonghwa would never take advantage of Hongjoong like that. Surely, Wooyoung knew that because it was the same bond he shared with Yeosang, his best friend who was an alpha but never in their story of friendship that fact had been an obstacle.
Seonghwa was going to help Hongjoong like nothing more than a best friend, because that’s what they are. Hongjoong was closer to Seonghwa than him and Wooyoung could understand it, after all they were friends from the same year. Wooyoung knew that the things Hongjoong didn't share with anyone, Seonghwa was the one there to listen to him and comfort him. In the same way, Seonghwa absolutely adored Hongjoong. They could bitter all they wanted and act about it, but Seonghwa respected and admired Hongjoong, the same way Hongjoong trusted and loved Seonghwa.
Their friendship bond was strong.
It didn't matter that Seonghwa was an alpha and Hongjoong an omega.
When Seonghwa helped Hongjoong bathe, put him to sleep, or feed him it wasn't something related to being mates or Seonghwa trying to court him. It was just Seonghwa helping his dear friend who was always pushing himself to his limits. Seonghwa was a caring person and as the oldest of the pack, he had made it his mission to take care of Hongjoong, a person who didn't allow others to easily take care of him.
Wooyoung understood the logical part of it, yet his heart and omega couldn't.
He tried to stop it, yet he couldn't.
Wooyoung could only picture Seonghwa taking off Hongjoong’s pajamas and touching his skin, then making him go inside the bath and washing his hair or soaping Hongjoong’s body with his hands. Surely, Hongjoong would just allow it and maybe in some moments he moaned because he was sleepy and it could be ticklish, or feel good. And…
…Wooyoung supposed if Hongjoong got aroused because of the gentle treatment, Seonghwa would be there to help him too.
Because they were friends.
Best friends.
But still, they were an alpha and an omega, and Wooyoung was not an idiot or naive. He knew that sometimes when Hongjoong’s heat was too much and taking suppressants was not an option because it could be harmful for his organism, Seonghwa was the one helping him. The same happened when Seonghwa was in rut and needed to have an omega by his side, Hongjoong was the one staying with him inside their room for two days straight.
Were they in love? Wooyoung couldn't know. Even for him, reading Seonghwa and Hongjoong was hard.
Was Seonghwa in love with Hongjoong? The possibility was there, Wooyoung wouldn't blame him if it was the case.
But…
Was Hongjoong in love with Seonghwa? Again, Wooyoung didn't know.
And that answer was scarier than anything.
Silently Wooyoung went back to his room and noticed San had fallen asleep on his bed, his phone forgotten by his side. Yet, Wooyoung didn't have the energy to wake him up. The only thing he was able to do was walk to his own bed and sit down for a bit.
It wasn't the first time he had thought about it.
If in the future, for instance, Seonghwa and Hongjoong ended up actually dating it wouldn't be a surprise for anyone, that was for sure. KQ didn't have a rule against dating and they had never said anything against dating inside their own group either, so these two have a clear path in that aspect. Wooyoung was sure their fans would be happy about it, they would support it and probably a big group of them would celebrate that Seonghwa and Hongjoong were mates.
It would be the feeling of ‘I knew it!’.
If it really happened, then… Then…
No.
Wooyoung would be happy for them.
No. No. No. Nononono.
He would be happy because they were his friends and he loved them dearly, both of them. Their happiness was Wooyoung’s happiness.
Yeah, he would be happy for them.
Although right now he was crying on his bed with San’s snores like background music. Wooyoung would be happy if Hongjoong was able to find someone who will take care of him for the rest of his life.
Ω
It's easy to forget his worries and sadness when there is so much work to do. Above everything, Wooyoung has always loved dancing, that being one of the main reasons he decided to try his luck and put his life into the idol-path.
Since being a pup Wooyoung has adored the idea of moving with the music, and not only that but being able to share a story, his feelings with his body; he loves the coordination and concentration it requires. And absolutely, Wooyoung was in love with the freedom that comes from it.
Yet it was exhausting.
During practice Wooyoung didn't have the time or energy to think about love and dumb crushes. Being honest, he felt like his legs were made of jelly already and his arms were numb, but if there was one thing he had was perseverance.
Wooyoung kept moving to the rhythm of their new song. They were preparing to comeback with a new album.
“Action To Answer” was without doubt, a masterpiece, because of course his members had been working their asses off to create something amazing, as always.
Right now, they were practicing the choreography of Answer, the main song for their new album, and Wooyoung couldn't say it was an easy dance (none of their songs were, but well, some of them were at least less exhausting).
Answer was the owner of tons of foot work, jumping, coordination among them, movement of the arms and of course, energy. Not only all of that, they also needed to take care of their facial expressions. So, it was hard to practice that song more than three times in a row and right now they were already in the fifth try.
Wooyoung was swimming in his own sweat and he felt disgusting, but he kept dancing with the rest. His eyes were stuck to the mirror in front of them, noticing even the smallest of mistakes to correct it the next time.
At least, the MV was ready. They were just waiting to release it and although everyone looked like they were fine, Wooyoung knew they were nervous. It was always the same when they were going to release something new. They gave all of their efforts and energy, but as a group you can't be sure how your fans and the media will respond to them.
Wooyoung, however, always tried to be positive.
Their practice continued, Wooyoung could hear the sound of their feet against the floor and their heavy breathings. The practice room felt too hot for them and Wooyoung was sure the mirror was starting to get foggy (disgusting). Wooyoung himself felt like his brain and body were disconnecting.
They kept going until finally being exhausted made them commit more mistakes than ever, and they were obvious: Jongho and Mingi collapsing while trying to move around, Yeosang having trouble to keep in his position, San’s legs trembling while moving, their feet losing their coordination and even Wooyoung made two obvious mistakes in which he lost the rhythm of the song. It was in that moment when their choreograph stopped the music and clapped his hands, gathering their attention:
“I think we should have a break.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
San was the first to lay down on the floor, his chest going up and down in quick motions while Yeosang passed around, trying to cool himself down while cleaning the sweat from his face. Jongho went straight to receive a water bottle, same as Seonghwa, who did the favor to give them to the rest. Mingi and Yunho sat down on one side of the room, legs almost touching and back pressed against the wall. And Hongjoong… Well, Hongjoong, of course, was talking about something with their teacher. Wooyoung couldn't know what they were saying with the background noise, but he guessed something important about their song.
It seemed his hyung didn't know the word rest and the implications of it.
Quickly, Wooyoung made his way in San’s direction, laying down the same as him and using his chest as a pillow.
“Uf.” San panted, but he didn't move away. “You almost made a hole in my chest.”
“Are you saying I'm fat?”
“No, I'm saying you have a heavy head.”
But San didn't push him away. They just stayed there, both of them looking at the ceiling and even when they were sweating like crazy, Wooyoung didn't mind the proximity. In fact, there was something comforting about it. It was so cozy, that Wooyoung felt his eyelids getting heavy and the world blurring around him.
Probably he dozed out for some minutes because he opened his eyes to his hyung’s voice:
“Kids!” It was Hongjoong. Wooyoung looked at him standing in front of them and he was not alone, their manager was at his side carrying a bag. For a moment Wooyoung thought about having ice cream for snacks. That would be amazing. “Please, come here. Get close. There is something important we need to discuss right now.”
Wooyoung didn't feel like standing up and for what he could see and hear around, neither did the rest. But well, there was no way in fighting against their leader (and their manager too), so with a grunt Wooyoung stood up, noticing San had fallen asleep. He had to move him a little bit to wake him and almost drag him to the semi-circle they had created when he finally opened his eyes.
Wooyoung sat down beside Yeosang, who was more quiet than usual.
“You good?” He asked in a whisper, touching Yeosang’s knee with his hand to catch his attention.
Yeosang nodded. “Yea’, just tired, that's all.”
“Don't we all?” Wooyoung chuckled and pressed his head against his shoulder. Yeosang grunted because of the movement, but didn't try to shake him away. “I feel like my whole body is going to melt.”
“Disgusting.”
Wooyoung was ready to answer with a joke, but just in time their manager started speaking:
“Okay, guys, this is going to be short. I don't wanna steal more time than necessary, especially since you're busy.” Their manager was standing with a relaxed posture, but looking at him wearing an all-black outfit made Wooyoung chuckled for some reason. His manager was not old, by any means, he was close to his thirties and a beta. He already did his military service and sometimes Wooyoung wondered why he chose to do what he does. “You're going to have a new dorm arrangement-”
“What?” San asked, suddenly awake.
“Why?” That was Mingi.
“Are we moving?”
“Guys, please, be quiet.” Now it was Hongjoong’s turn again.
Wooyoung looked at him standing beside the manager and again, that warm feeling inside his chest appeared without him even wanting it. It was impossible to control it, even after practicing so much Hongjoong was pretty with his blonde hair and oversized clothes that he usually wore for practice, he looked smaller than usual. However, Wooyoung knew very well that although he could look small, Hongjoong was unstoppable.
He looked away when the manager kept talking.
“Yes, you're moving to a new dorm.” Before chaos could appear, Hongjoong gave them a harsh look. Wooyoung himself closed his mouth shut but he couldn't hide the smile on his face. This was such exciting news. “The reason is that you need a place with more space for the eight of you.” Everyone could agree to that. “And a place that is going to be safer for you too.”
Wooyoung stretched his legs in front of him and pressed his lips together. The air around him suddenly felt colder than before and he could notice the tense posture of Yeosang and the serious expression on Seonghwa's face.
It wasn't something they liked to talk about, honestly, it was for the better just to forget about the matter. However, it was difficult to forget about something that was scary and traumatic for everyone. Even when time had passed, for each one of them the situation felt too recent.
Wooyoung looked to his other side and saw that San was looking to the floor. He couldn't see his expression well, but Wooyoung was sure about what he was thinking.
Carefully, he took San’s hand in his, squeezing it in silent support.
The manager cleared his throat, probably sensing the blue mood that the room already has:
“The new place will have four rooms and two bathrooms… Same as the previous one, but it will be different. One room is too small, so one of you will have a room to themselves.” Wooyoung, still holding San’s hand, noticed that even Yeosang opened his eyes wider at the news. Of course everyone could be excited about this because it had been a long time since they didn't have to share something. “And one room will have three of you in it. It's up to you to know how you are going to divide it, but you need to decide soon because the move will be by the end of the week, ‘kay?”
Everyone nodded in anticipation and not even five seconds passed until they started discussing.
However, deciding who was going to get which room seemed a little arbitrary.
“I mean, it's not fair.” Wooyoung was the first one to say, because of course, they should be careful about following some kind of justice here. “That one person will have a whole room to himself and the rest will need to share.”
“I didn't know you hated sharing with me so much.”
“Aish, Sannie! That's not the point-”
“Guys, but remember that is not a big room-”
“We should play a game then!” Yunho shouted, cutting whatever the manager was trying to say. Now everyone turned to look at him, suddenly thinking about the option. “We play a game to see the distribution. It will be fair like that, right?”
Before anyone could say something else, Hongjoong nodded: “Seems fair, but I don't want to hear you complaining when we have the result.”
Like that everyone gathered to decide what they could play and at the end, with the manager’s help (who seemed like he was prepared for the situation), ended up with a bag full of sticks with different colors. It was pretty simple, each one of them would take out one stick and see the color it had on one of the sides. The roommates were going to be chosen if the colors matched.
It was fast and at the moment reactions started to appear.
San ended up with Yunho. Jongho, Seonghwa and Yeosang in the room for three. Mingi was all alone (how lucky he was!) and finally… Finally…
Wooyoung observed with wide eyes his red stick perfectly matching Hongjoong's one, who was holding it with a weird expression on his face. Wooyoung thought about how in hell he ended up like this, but it was impossible not to feel the rush of his heart and the nervous bubbling inside his stomach. He was excited but also scared, because he didn't know how he was going to be able to share a room with the person he was in love with.
Moreover, Wooyoung couldn't act in an uncharacteristic way.
For that reason, he laughed loudly and ran to hug Hongjoong’s between his arm. At the moment he noticed how his hyung tensed and whimpered, annoyed at the closeness. Wooyoung didn't let go, he just squeezed him harder and put their faces closer, still smiling, noticing how Hongjoong was fighting him to put distance again.
“Hyung!” Wooyoung shouted and Hongjoong closed his eyes, telling him not to be so loud. “We are together! How exciting! I never thought we were going to be roommates!”
“Let me go, Wooyoung!”
“We are going to be roommates, hyung!”
Wooyoung kept laughing, moving Hongjoong side to side in his iron grip and noticed how Seonghwa was smiling at them. Probably, if Wooyoung was a better person he would smile back with sincerity, but because he was feeling possessive (without a reason) he only tightened his hold around his hyung. It was stupid of him to do something like that, it was like he was trying to say Yeah, look at him, he’s mine. But Wooyoung wasn't in the position and didn't have the right to do it.
He was just dumb. That was all.
“Well, you're lucky, Wooyoung-ah.” Yeosang said from Seonghwa’s side, watching the display of affection. “Hongjoong hyung is never home.”
“Yeah, sharing with him is like having a room for yourself.” Mingi commented too, closing his eyes like he was thinking deeply about the fact.
Seonghwa laughed softly. “That's true.”
“So, in a way we have like… two individual rooms.” San pouted while climbing to Yunho’s back. When the brat knew they were going to share, San didn't lose time to literally jump on him. Such a reaction almost made Wooyoung feel offended. “But well, it doesn't matter! At least we can have more space.”
“Yeah!”
Wooyoung laughed again, this time releasing some of the hold he had on his hyung but even when he was in a way happy, he couldn't help feeling worried about the situation.
Sometimes he wondered if the universe was playing a bad joke on him.
Ω
Without laying or exaggerating, moving was a pain in the ass.
After practicing until they were dead tired, they needed to go back to an apartment full of stuff they needed to take to another place.
It was hell.
For their good luck, the staff was there to help them with some of the heavy stuff that they didn't want to leave behind, such as the smart T.V they bought together some months ago and was their treasure, also the mini-refrigerator where they could collect their energetic drinks or ice cream, or even the vacuum Seonghwa insisted to get because it could go around the apartment on its own and it was so much easier to keep the place somehow cleaner.
But their personal things were only for them to take care off and Wooyoung, sadly, had a lot of clothes and dumb objects he had been collecting without a reason. It was like he never stopped finding new things in his (ex) room. Wooyoung even found one of the phone cases he had lost some weeks ago.
Following that routine, by the end of the week the dorm was almost empty, being only filled with the furniture they weren't going to need in the next apartment.
Wooyoung was sure nobody was sad about the moving and even when San kept quiet during the process, not sharing his real thoughts, Wooyoung knew the omega felt relief about leaving the place.
It was difficult to erase a moment that was terrifying.
The new dorm was in a building in the opposite direction from the previous one but same as the previous, not far away from their company. There were some differences to have in consideration: the kitchen was bigger, and Wooyoung couldn't be happier with that, but the windows were looking to the east so the mornings were going to be hot.
When they arrived at the place, carrying boxes, the first thing each one of them did was take a look at their new rooms. The one Hongjoong and he were going to use had a bunk bed, same as the one Wooyoung used to share with San.
Looking around, Wooyoung left one of his boxes on the floor of the room. It had space for both of them but right now it seemed empty and cold, Wooyoung could also still feel a faint smell of enclosure. Probably, because nobody had lived there in a while.
Wooyoung didn't like it. He wanted the room to have his own smell and the one from his pack as soon as possible.
Suddenly, another box was left beside him.
Wooyoung looked up to notice Hongjoong standing there, looking around too. Wooyoung could notice the sweat damping his forehead. Although everyone needed to do exercise and attend the gym as their usual routine, Hongjoong wasn't a big fan of exercise or sports. He was competitive, but Wooyoung had seen him trying to lift weight and failing in the process.
“Need help, hyung?” Wooyoung asked as naturally as he could. It wasn't difficult to act normal around him because he had been doing that since he first got to know him.
Hongjoong shook his head and cleaned his clothes from dust. “It's fine, you have your own things anyways.”
Wooyoung smiled and stretched his arm to touch Hongjoong’s leg. The older huffed and took a step back, mumbling something similar to ‘ you brat’.
“We have bunk beds, hyung.” Wooyoung pointed out the obvious.
“Uhm, of course, is not different from before.”
“Top or bottom?”
“Huh?” Hongjoong coughed and turned to look at him with big eyes. It was impossible to not notice the tip of his ears turning red. “What?”
Oh.
His hyung was so shy and prude sometimes Wooyoung couldn't help but giggle. The urge of teasing him to make him more flustered was too strong, Wooyoun wanted to see the blush on his face and the way he ended up mumbling because it was difficult to formulate his sentences. Wooyoung really wanted to tease him, probably he was more of a sadist than he initially had thought.
However this was their first day as roommates, Wooyoung didn't want to start off on the wrong foot. He knew he was difficult to handle and the idea was to avoid making Hongjoong mad in their first five minutes of coexistence.
From his position on the floor, Wooyoung shrugged and explained:
“The bed, I mean. Do you want to sleep on the top part or the bottom? I will let you choose. I'm fine with any of them.”
Hongjoong didn't break eye contact, neither did Wooyoung. Not because he didn't want to, but suddenly it was impossible to look to the side. Inside him, there was something pulling him to keep looking at Hongjoong. From his position, Wooyoung had to turn his head back to look properly at the other omega and there was something intoxicating about that.
Finally, Hongjoong opened his mouth, mumbled a soft ah like he understood and then it was him the one looking away.
Wooyoung didn't want to believe there was tension between them, because there was not, but for a second there… Hongjoong seemed almost nervous.
Why?
He couldn't know, but even Wooyoung could notice the embarrassment and awkwardness in the other omega. Sometimes, Hongjoong was as easy to read as a children’s book, or it could be because Wooyoung was so used to looking at him.
It was easy for him to understand his hyung’s emotions.
“The bottom, if it’s okay with you.” Hongjoong answered and pointed to the naked bed. “Just because… It will be easier to enter the room and not wake you up. If I had to climb in the middle of the night it would be troublesome for you too.”
“Right.” Wooyoung nodded and stretched his legs wider. “Makes sense. You're almost never home anyway.”
Wooyoung didn't say that in a bitter tone or with the aim of being petty, but his voice was too harsh and low even for his own ears. Worse than all, Hongjoong was suddenly sitting down beside him and getting comfortable. Their knees were touching and Wooyoung knew that was Hongjoong’s way of keeping skinship between them.
“It's not that I don't want to be here with all of you.” Hongjoong was speaking with that paternal tone Wooyoung hated so much.
Wooyoung felt his eye twitching and he needed to bite the inside of his cheek to keep himself composed. He needed to hold himself down and he was ready to tell Hongjoong everything was fine, it was cool.
“You know that I like being here with everyone, but I have to compose because we need to keep growing and-”
“I know, hyung.”
Wooyoung turned to look at him with a tight smile, feeling like an idiot.
There was no reason for this conversation and he was starting to get annoyed by the way Hongjoong kept looking at him.
Hongjoong was watching him as if Wooyoung was nothing but a pup he needed to calm down. The worst part was that Wooyoung could understand part of Hongjoong’s reasoning. His hyung was one of the oldest there, even with the year of difference between them, he was the pack leader and an omega. In a way, part of his work was comforting the rest of them and making them feel calmer. If one of them were in pain, scared or worried, Hongjoong was there to step in and calm them down.
That was his duty and he was really admirable for doing it so well.
Nevertheless, Wooyoung felt absolutely worthless when Hongjoong spoke to him as he was a pup. Wooyoung was just another person he needed to calm down and take care of. It felt like a mother trying to calm down his pup, because he missed her, and Wooyoung didn't want that. His pride was being hurted, because although Wooyoung was aware of their reality (both of them omegas) it was painful to be reminded of it like this. He
Wooyoung couldn't take it if Hongjoong talked to him like a father to his child.
That wouldn't do for his heart, omega and expectations.
Hongjoong was unattainable, but Wooyoung could still dream or have little bits of hope. Everything was thrown to the trash when he noticed Hongjoong didn't even see him as a mate, as someone equal. Hongjoong was protecting him while Wooyoung didn't have a lot of opportunities to do the same.
“It's not your fault. I know you're working really hard.” Wooyoung muttered, looking at his feet. He needed to act like everything was okay. He needed to act like the usual Wooyoung, the one who joked around and laughed all the time. “I didn't say it like that. I was just remembering what the others said.”
“Everyone works hard, Young-ah.”
Wooyoung nodded. “Yeah, but you work harder, hyung. You're the one not coming home because you stay until late making music and have to sleep in your studio. You're not going to make me believe you're not the coolest person out there!”
And like that, Wooyoung smiled at him and Hongjoong just looked like he was trying to see inside his mind.
Wooyoung laughed:
“So! It's going to be like having a room for myself!”
Hongjoong kept looking and for a moment, Wooyoung thought he knew what was happening. He opened his mouth to say something more, but before he could, Yunho appeared on the doorframe:
“We are ordering something to eat. Come here. We haven't decided yet.”
Grateful for the timing and excuse, as fast as he could Wooyoung jumped to his feet and left the room in the direction of the living room.
He yelled he wanted meat for dinner.
Ω
Sharing a room with Hongjoong was exactly what everyone said: like having a room for himself.
Although they still had boxes around and things to put in place and order, Hongjoong didn't appear that much, especially at night. It was a curious success, sometimes he was there to eat with the rest of them when they had some free time after practice but then Hongjoong always said he needed to go because of work. Sometimes, Mingi went with him and both of them disappeared for the whole night.
Without even meaning it during the first nights alone, Wooyoung had kept up until late wondering when Hongjoong was going to appear, but he always fell asleep. He knew Hongjoong arrived during the night because the lights were turned off in the morning when he woke up. In the same way, Wooyoung knew when Hongjoong didn't even enter the place.
He just knew.
After the second week of that interaction Hongjoong said:
“Wooyoung-ah, you don't need to wait for me.”
Stopping his mind from going further away, Wooyoung looked up from his breakfast made of white rice, kimchi and leftovers from dinner. Saying that he was sleepy was an underestimation; Wooyoung felt like his eyes were unable to stay open and also, he felt messy. However, Hongjoong was worse.
The omega looked like a truck had run over him; his hair was a mess, he had big eyebags that made Wooyoung feel worried, his face was pale and since he was wearing a shirt too big for him, his collarbones were at full display.
Wooyoung couldn't stop himself from looking at it and wondering what it would feel like kissing and biting the spot.
“What?” He asked, mouth half full.
Looking like a zombie Hongjoong went straight to the coffee machine to prepare something that smelled way too bitter for his liking.
“At night. You don't have to wait for me at night.” Hongjoong’s voice was soft in the kitchen space and Wooyoung felt like purring. It was husky and gentle, same as always but with the charm of Hongjoong waking up just minutes ago. “You can just turn off the light and I will make my way into the room. It's fine. Don't worry about me.”
“Ah.” Wooyoung nodded but then he processed the situation, looking at Hongjoong’s back and seeing how tense his shoulders were. “You don't come home a lot, hyung.”
“Uhum,” Hongjoong filled his mug, a red one that had been there since Wooyoung joined the company. Once he was ready, Hongjoong turned around and pressed his back against the counter. He took a sip but probably he burned his tongue, since he closed his eyes before speaking: “Ow- I… I have something I need to work on. Maddox and Eden-hyung are helping too, so I think it is going to be pretty big.”
Wooyoung moved the white rice from one place to another, feeling sick in the stomach with different things tangling inside. He wasn't hungry anymore.
Why? He couldn't understand.
Hongjoong was not telling him anything different from the usual. Wooyoung knew all of the staff that worked with them and of course, he was grateful and knew the two persons that helped so much to the creation of their albums.
So, why? What was the reason for Wooyoung to feel ill?
Eden hyung was an alpha while Maddox a beta.
That was fine.
Wooyoung talked with them. Both of them were gentle and funny, and not only that but Wooyoung was aware Hongjoong looked at them with admiration in his eyes. It had been Eden the one teaching Hongjoong most of the things he knew now about producing and composing. More than just that, Wooyoung had noticed how Hongjoong acted like a kid when he was around them.
Meanwhile Hongjoong ran away from skinship among his members, he didn't have any problem hugging or cuddling with Maddox, or acting cute with Eden.
And Wooyoung was fine with that. It was normal, right?
Hongjoong was the leader here and the second in age, but… but… Maybe he just enjoyed being spoiled by two people he admired so much. It could be a possibility. After all, in his house Hongjoong was the younger brother and Wooyoung knew how much he adored his older brother. Probably Hongjoong like someone older taking care of him and because of that, he felt more comfortable showing affection and neediness.
Or maybe he was trying to flirt with them.
No.
Wooyoung got completely tense and held the chopsticks in his hand.
No.
He needed to erase such thoughts from his mind because they were going to take him nowhere. It was just a bunch of bullshit, his mind playing tricks on him. It couldn't be that Wooyoung thought like that about Hongjoong, the most hard-working person and the one who didn't mind not sleeping at all if he could create music for them.
Wooyoung needed to stop his mind right now. He needed to stop himself from creating scenarios full of shit and just focus on his breakfast and the schedule they have ahead of them. The only things that should be using space inside his mind should be the next choreography they needed to practice, his voice, and keeping himself above the water before he drowned in his own thoughts.
Wooyoung knew he needed to act as he always did.
Even when he wanted to throw up.
“Ah.” Wooyoung forced a smile that felt fake even for him, and for that reason it was a good thing Hongjoong was still half asleep. “That's cool, hyung. I'm sure you're going to do something amazing! You always do.” He laughed. “Do you need help? I can help too. It’ll be fun.”
With a smile, Hongjoong shook his head:
“It's okay, Young-ah. Thank you, anyway.”
Wooyoung nodded because there was nothing more for him to do. He left his chopsticks aside.
Suddenly, Hongjoong looked more awake. He got closer to Wooyoung and pointed to the chopsticks with his free hand.
“Are you not going to finish that?”
Blinking, Wooyoung looked down to his unfinished breakfast that was probably cold by now. He thought about it for a few seconds, considering what was the best option there. Saying he was not hungry would be a lie Hongjoong would never believe because he knew him well, however just the idea of putting something inside his mouth made Wooyoung feel dizzy and nervous.
“I… I'm on a diet, hyung. That's all.”
It was not a complete lie.
Hongjoong was watching him with a serious expression. Wooyoung didn't like it.
Getting more nervous, Wooyoung licked his lips and started rambling:
“Just a normal diet. Don't worry! Nothing to worry too much about. I’ll stop in a few weeks, hyung. Ah! Don't look at me like that.” Wooyoung pushed the bowl of rice in Hongjoong’s direction, trying to distract him and himself at the same time. He took some of the rice with his chopsticks and also a little bit of kimchi. “You haven't eaten and just coffee is not breakfast. Have these, come on!”
“I don't-”
“Come on, hyung! It's rude to leave me like this.”
Sighing, Hongjoong got closer and bent over the counter. His collarbones and neck were in more display for Wooyoung, who didn't have any other option but fighting himself to focus on not throwing everything because of his distraction. Slowly, Hongjoong parted his mouth and ate everything Wooyoung had offered him.
Wooyoung tried really hard to keep himself calm, but he couldn't stop himself from looking at how soft and tender Hongjoong’s lips appeared. Wooyoung’s brain almost stopped functioning observing how the other omega used his thumb to clean the corner of his mouth and then licked it with the tip of his tongue.
Stop being a creep, come on.
But his inner omega had another plan because it was almost begging Wooyoung to stand up, get closer to Hongjoong and do that for him. He wanted to be the one cleaning Hongjoong’s mouth or even something as dirty as licking his fingers clean. It shouldn't be something Wooyoung craved to do, but there he was, sitting and looking at the other omega with such scenarios running inside his head.
He wanted his hyung so much it was hurting him.
“It's cold.”
“Well, I have been sitting here for a long time.”
“Iugh.” Hongjong shook his head. “At least put it in the microwave.”
Wooyoung laughed loudly, but it was cutted short when someone jumped on his back, pressing all his weight down.
He didn't even need to turn around to know it was San, being a pain in the morning and at the same time, saving him with his characteristic of not being able to read the mood of a room. Now Wooyoung had the boy whining in his ear about being hungry and tired, and sore because it seemed like dancing and then training at the gym was not the best idea.
As easy as that Wooyoung’s alone time with Hongjoong was over.
Seonghwa appeared carrying a sleepy Yeosang and then it was Mingi’s turn, looking like a mess with his hair in all directions.
The kitchen was filled with noise and movement, nothing different for them.
Wooyoung’s favorite mornings were the ones in which most of them could eat breakfast together, not responsibilities or running from one place to another yet. Just them. He loved being able to share such a precious moment with people he considered brothers, but…
Even with that, Wooyoung couldn't stop himself from looking at Hongjoong smiling along with the rest, chatting with Mingi about songs Wooyoung didn't know yet, or giggling along with Seonghwa, probably sharing things that only the two of them knew.
Although Wooyoung adored spending time with his friends, he wished that at least once, he could spend breakfast with Hongjoong.
Just the two of them.
Ω
Honestly, sometimes even Wooyoung was not sure how he fell in love with Hongjoong.
Sometimes, Wooyoung thought it was not love at all. However, there was no way in which he could know because it was an emotion he felt for Hongjoong and Hongjoong only. Wooyoung loved his family and friends, he could recognize that without a problem, but romantic love was on another level.
He was not even sure if it was their first interaction or the feeling bloomed with the passing of time.
Wooyoung couldn't remember.
Sincerely, Hongjoong had tons of positive traits Wooyoung admired, such as hardworking, responsible, disciplined, caring, kind, wise, educated…, there were a lot of things in him. But even with that, Wooyoung cannot lie to himself and say that the first interactions between the two of them were perfect; Wooyoung was now aware that Hongjoong didn't like him that much and Wooyoung himself had a hard time.
Hongjoong was not an asshole but he was strict, he talked to Wooyoung like he was the captain of a squadron going to a war and not the veteran trainee of the company. At first, Hongjoong had kind of a rude way of speaking, his speech was something with an authoritative tone and he took his role as their leader seriously from the first moment.
But Wooyoung admired him even from that moment.
Plus, of course Wooyoung could never forget a simple fact: Hongjoong was cute.
Giggling, Wooyoung admired the other omega by his phone screen. There was no reason to record him since Yunho and Hongjoong were already being recorded for, Woooyoung supposed, a Vlog that would be posted to their Youtube channel. But Wooyoung couldn't help himself because Hongjoong was giggling and moving along Yunho in the cutest way possible, getting embarrassed when they held hands.
“Cute.” Wooyoung giggled.
“Stalker alert activated.”
Wooyoung scoffed and hit Yeosang’s side with his elbow. The alfa tried to dodge him, but Wooyoung kept going until he was able to have Yeosang whining and caressing his side.
“Ah, you made me mess up the video!”
“You don't need another video. You have like, a million of them.” Yeosang kicked him softly on the leg. In response, Wooyoung bit his shoulder, making his friend yelp in pain: “Ah! You savage!”
Wooyoung let him go when San appeared to sit besides Yeosang, asking what were they playing and why Wooyoung was biting Yeosang (again).
“Nothing.”
“Wooyoung-ah is being his whipped self.”
“Yah!”
This whole situation was amazing.
“I was sitting here without bothering anyone and you just came to start annoying me.” Wooyoung scoffed and looked at his best friend, but Yeosang didn't seem like he was paying any attention to his struggle. Wooyoung went from Yeosang to San, not believing that right now he was being the center of attention for something that shouldn't be a problem. “You can put your ugly ass away from me if you are going to keep acting like a bitch.”
“Oh, come on, guys.” San tried with a gentle tone, dimples in full display. He looked at Wooyoung and then Yeosang. “Sangie, you shouldn't bother Young-ah…”
“Finally!” Wooyoung exclaimed.
Finally a real friend for him.
“Without me!”
Nop, San could go to his fuck-him list for the day too.
Wooyoung snorted and locked his phone. Yunho and Hongjoong were still recording their video, but right now they seemed to be chatting about something in one of the corners of the practice room. Wooyoung couldn't hear what they were saying from his position, on the other side of the place, but he observed how Hongjoong smiled at Yunho while he spoke, his head tilted back to be able to see his face. Then, Mingi walked closer to the frame and the conversation seemed to continue.
Wooyoung couldn't help but notice how tiny Hongjoong looked standing between those two.
He felt jealous.
“Fuck this, I'm leaving.”
Wooyoung was ready to stand up and go to take a nap besides Seonghwa, who seemed really comfortable cuddling alone on the couch they had there. But of course, he couldn't even try to stand up because both Yeosang and San went to hold him still. They talked at the same time, saying that he shouldn't go like this and pushing him until Wooyoung almost fell down on Yeosang’s lap.
A big commotion that resulted in Hongjoong scolding them with that strict but soft voice of his. He said something about them lowering their voices because they were trying to record for Atiny.
“Sorry, hyung and our Atiny!” San yelled and bowed his head.
Going back to what they were doing before, Wooyoung took the opportunity to look at his best friends. Same as before but more quietly this time, he tried to stand up.
“I'm not going to sit here just for you to make fun of me.”
San, bending over Yeosang to be able to hold his thigh, snorted. He had the same shitty grin that meant nothing but trouble and usually a head-ache for Wooyoung. Something told him the other omega was going to say something stupid.
“Come on, you cannot be serious.” San whispered. Yeosang was trying to push him away from his lap, but San didn't even flinch. He was looking at Wooyoung like a mischievous cat. “You always bother everyone until they snap, but if we make a tiny, single joke about you, you get mad- Wow! Don't go! I'm joking.”
“I'm deleting you from my phone.”
“We are not here just to bother you, Young-ah.” Now it was Yeosang speaking after finally being able to push San away. He turned to look at him with sincere eyes and Wooyoung felt his defenses going down a little. “It's cute, your feelings… I mean, kind of cringe because you look obsessed and intense, but it's cute. Besides, we joke about it because that's what friends do.”
Wooyoung looked at both of them and sighed.
Yeah, friendship was like that.
And San had a point there too. Wooyoung was always the one pushing people and joking, he didn't have a problem with that. However, he could get easily mad when the crush-topic was touched.
He didn't like that part of himself.
“I suppose…” They were always picking on each other, but still Wooyoung couldn't help himself but feel more sensitive when the topic was his feelings for his hyung. He played with the tiny hole in the knee of his black joggers. “I just, I don't know, it's hard because it's not like this has a chance.”
Wooyoung observed his phone resting on his lap. He knew it was almost obsessive how many pictures and videos of his hyung he had in his gallery, but he couldn't help himself. He was utterly and deeply in love with their leader. Wooyoung always knew he was a clingy and touchy person; he enjoyed human contact, hugs and kisses, he was a big fan of making friends everywhere he went, and more than anything he loved being able to share special bonds with others. He didn't have any trouble saying I love you even to his friends.
He was a romantic.
Wooyoung always imagined a relationship in which he could be able to do everything together with his partner. He always knew he was going to be the type of boyfriend taking pictures about everything they do; eating, sleeping, just standing there. He knew he would be the type of boyfriend posting only pictures of his partner to his Instagram and doing silly things such as having different things for couples; rings, clothes, phone cases, etc.
Now, Hongjoong was not his boyfriend but they were together everyday for almost every hour of the day. Since they became roommates it has been more difficult.
There were moments in which Hongjoong was actually home and when he was more relaxed, not pressured about composing, Wooyoung had the opportunity to just chill by his side and talk about everything that was not important. Every topic, even debating which coffee was better and what topping of pizza was the best. In those opportunities, Wooyoung could look at his hyung’s bareface, his easy-going smile and feel his heart burning up for him.
On some occasions, Wooyoung would find his hyung sleeping on the sofa or his bed without covering himself, so Wooyoung would go and collect a blanket to cover him. In other opportunities, Hongjoong would be sleepy and grumpy, waking up without enough sleep and with a hoarse, close to inaudible voice he would almost order Wooyoung to prepare him a meal.
Such a needy omega.
Wooyoung’s heart would die a little bit more with those occasions because Hongjoong was so, so adorable. His omega was so grumpy and authoritarian! It was like a needy wife and honestly, Wooyoung wouldn't mind taking care of him for the rest of their lives. Looking at the way in which he could order him around made Wooyoung want to giggle.
Yet, Wooyoung remembered himself, it's not ‘ours’. He is not our omega.
That was the thing.
With such domestic interactions Wooyoung’s own omega had a hard time understanding the reality that Hongjoong was not his. His wolf was more confused than ever and it was difficult to keep it at bay.
They were sharing a room, for fuck sake! A space that should be only for Wooyoung’s own omega to feel safe and for who he decided was able to enter. Wooyoung had already built a nest in the room and even allowed Hongjoong to look at it. It was such a fussy feeling in his stomach when Hongjoong had laughed while looking around, saying:
“Ah, this is great! It's so cute! You're so cute, Young-ah. If you want some of my things, you can have them too.”
Hongjoong had praised him. He had praised Wooyoung’s nest and his omega almost died on the spot. Not only the praise, but Hongjoong had offered Wooyoung to use some of his things. Like it was theirs, like they were mates sharing everything.
Such an intimate occasion.
So, yeah, it could be that Wooyoung acted more like a boyfriend than anything. He tried to control, but he knew himself very well and when he took care of Hongjoong it wasn't just because it was his friend and leader.
“It's not like I have a real opportunity with him, anyways.”
To begin with, Wooyoung had the wrong sub-gender.
“And even if I could flirt with him or court him for real, you know, like an alpha.” He didn't mean to, but the word left his mouth like a curse. Wooyoung felt Yeosang get tense at his side. “Hyung would never look at me like that. Not with that kind of love.” Even when Wooyoung tried something as innocent as hugging him just because, Hongjoong walked away like the touch burnt him, yet he didn't have such a hard time when cuddling against Maddox’s chest. “He would never like me.”
Wooyoung was boyfriend material for everyone but the boy he liked.
How sad.
Sometimes Wooyoung had thought that even if he was an alpha (he wished!) Hongjoong would still not fancy him like that, because everything about Wooyoung was not Hongjoong’s type. Wooyoung was not taller than him and even if he was stronger, he knew omegas tended to be with someone taller because of the protective instinct and biological bullshit. He was loud while Hongjoong prefered being calm. Wooyoung was an extrovert who enjoyed talking to people and chatting around, while Hongjoong was an introvert who didn't even have friends outside Ateez.
More than that, Hongjoong was intelligent and had opinions about all kinds of topics, important and controversial stuff. He studied and read things that would make Wooyoung’s brain melt. Hongjoong was a great composer and was the starting point for their group, he made sure to learn everything he needed to in order to fulfill his dreams. While Wooyoung was unable to even have good lines during their songs and had never written a single worthy lyric for their music.
Perhaps Wooyoung was more like a himbo and he doubted Hongjoong would be interested in someone like him.
“Young-ah…”
“We…” San was whispering, trying to shuffle closer but it was difficult with Yeosang in the middle. The omega looked agitated and like he himself was going to cry. “We are so sorry, Wooyoungie. We never meant to make you sad like that or… joke about your feelings. We are so, so sorry, please don't be sad.”
“Yeah, and you know… you're really handsome, Wooyoung.” Yeosang patted him on the back, trying to comfort him. His hand felt warm and heavy. “Hyung reacts like that because… well, he is like that with everyone. It's nothing against you. He loves you, you know it.”
“Yeah, and you are great, Woo. Seriously.” San whimpered and Wooyoung could smell his omega’s essence. His friend was trying to calm him down by making use of his pheromones. “Not only because you're handsome! You're funny, kind, talented, hard-working, you are a great cook and you are good at sports! Everyone likes you when they meet you!”
Wooyoung tried to smile, thinking about his friends’ words.
Well, but everything they said didn't matter if Hongjoong was not the one reacting to Wooyoung’s charms.
“Uhm, duh.” Wooyoung forced a loud laugh and clapped his hands, looking at them with raised eyebrows. “I'm a total snack, aren't I?”
Both Yeosang and San looked at him with big eyes. They shared a look and Yeosang opened his mouth to say something, but then he tilted his head and kept himself quiet. It looked like he was trying to analyze Wooyoung.
That couldn't be.
Using his hands as support, Wooyoung stood up fast enough to almost trip himself. He whined loudly, looking around the room. Wooyoung could notice how the rest was now paying attention to them.
“My ass hurts after sitting for such a long time on the floor! The couch is best for a nap. Ah! Seonghwa-hyung, give me some space to cuddle there too!”
“But please don't throw yourself on top of m- Ugh !”
“You're the best pillow, hyung.” Wooyoung giggled and pressed his face against Seonghwa’s neck, almost making his hyung’s phone fall down to the floor.
Soon enough they were a disaster of limbs, with Seonghwa trying to find a comfortable position and Wooyoung refusing to get away from him. He knew that the camera was now recording them because there was no way in which the production team was going to waste such a scene.
It was fine.
Wooyoung could act like everything was okay in front of the cameras. He needed it. After all, Wooyoung was a professional at his job and he knew how he should and shouldn't act when necessary. He was able to ignore his problems and act like everything was okay.
“Ah! You're crushing my stomach!”
“You're so soft, hyung-nim.”
Wooyoung was an expert in acting like everything was okay. He couldn't allow his mood to get depressed in front of the others, especially not when Hongjoong was in the same room as him and he could read his members like they were an open book. It was not that difficult to know, anyways, because Wooyoung understood that in the same way San started to act frantic to make him feel better, even to the point of using his pheromones, the rest would have been able to know something was making him sad.
Omegas were especially sensitive to the emotions of the members of their pack. Another biological thing that Wooyoung thought was cute when he was younger and now he felt it was nothing but bullshit.
In simple words, they worked as mood shifters.
Omegas needed more omegas in their packs because when one got distressed for something, usually the easiest way to calm them down was with the help of another omega. Wooyoung himself couldn't explain it, but it made him feel good having an omega friend by his side when he wanted to cry. Even when he had Yeosang for a long time, it wasn't until he met San that he was able to feel better faster in such moments.
Of course, this changed with time.
Once an omega found a mate (most of the time, an alpha) it was the mate’s responsibility to calm the omega down. The omega would be able to respond to their alpha pheromones.
Knowing that Wooyoung understood that the moment San started to get nervous, Hongjoong would start to feel like that too. He knew that Hongjoong started to pay attention to them because he could feel the weight of his eyes on him. Such a heavy weight that Wooyoung could recognize pretty well because usually, it made him bloom like a flower.
San and Hongjoong were different too, in the sense that Hongjoong was still their pack leader. For that reason, he was more sensitive to their moods and took it pretty seriously when one of them started to feel down.
Wooyoung couldn't allow that.
“I want to use the couch too!”
“No way!” Wooyoung whined and looked at Yunho, refusing to let go of his hyung. Seonghwa shifted below him. “You're way too big. You would crush both of us and there is not enough space for you.”
“You're crushing me right now!”
“I'm going to use the couch anyway.”
“Don't you dar-”
Wooyoung laughed and cried when Yunho laid on top of him. Below him, Seonghwa was now trying to roll himself to the side and push them to the floor. Now it was nothing but a disaster of yells and cries, while the rest of them just looked. Of course, it was worse when even Mingi jumped on the pile.
When everyone fell down to the floor in a disaster of limbs and heavy breathing, Wooyoung smiled at the camera and said something, the first thing that left his mouth. He was almost working in auto-pilot and even when he was focused on the interactions and being able to create a funny atmosphere for the Vlog, his omega was still looking around for Hongjoong.
Hongjoong was looking at them from the side, holding a bottle of water against his mouth.
Their eyes met and Wooyoung felt the sweat on his back getting cold.
It wasn't like Wooyoung was actually scared of Hongjoong. Not even once. Not even when he first met him or that time when Hongjoong got really mad at them, because he was stressed and they were going to debut soon, so they needed to work harder. Hongjoong was not a scary person, but…
But sometimes his eyes gave Wooyoung the feeling that he was able to read his thoughts.
And that was the scariest thing that could happen to him.
Ω
The days passed between anxiety and excitement.
The MV for Answer and their new album was released. Such a moment was nothing but exciting for everyone. Wooyoung could still remember how his legs trembled while waiting for the hour of the release and then, the anxiety he had while scrolling down twitter to read the reactions to everything they had prepared.
They did well.
It was a great response.
They celebrated because each one of them worked hard to get where they were and while feeling that tiny taste of achievement, everyone was able to rest at least for one night without feeling stress about what was going to happen next.
Of course, schedules didn't end there.
They needed to record the choreography video not only once, but three times for different channels. In each one of them, Wooyoung focused on dancing as best as possible. Making a mistake, even if it was tiny, was not an option. Not only that, they needed to perform in front of their Atiny, in a real scenario that was going to be recorded for everyone around the world to see. There were interviews, more videos, interactions, and answers to be given.
Suddenly, there were so many things to do that Wooyoung was only able to do everything with the help of two things: pushing himself and caffeine.
Car rides were never as silent as when they were in the middle of a comeback.
Each one of them ended up napping while moving around the different buildings.
And a car ride was the opportunity for Wooyoung’s heart to almost explode and something… something that not even him could explain, to happen.
“Ah, hyung.” Wooyoung called Seonghwa before he entered the van that was going to take them with their stylists. It was early in the morning; the street was empty and the sun was nowhere to be seen yet. “Can I go first? I want to sit by the window, otherwise I will get dizzy.”
“Sure, Young-ah. Go ahead.” Seonghwa gave one step to the side, allowing Wooyoung to go first. “Don't you want something for that?”
“No, thanks, it's not that bad yet. Just a precaution.”
Wooyoung jumped to get inside the van. He noticed Jongho, Mingi and San already sitting at the back. Jongho was listening to music with his eyes closed, Mingi was already asleep and San was checking something on his phone. Carefully, trying not to trip himself, Wooyoung passed to the second row of seats. Since it was warmer there than outside, the window was tarnished.
The first thing he did after sitting was drawing a smiley face there.
“Uh, it's warm here.”
Wooyoung tensed and looked to his side.
He was surprised to notice Hongjoong was the one sitting at his side and not Seonghwa, who now was nowhere to be seen. The situation was so weird that Wooyoung could only watch at his figure, the only part of his face uncovered were his eyes since Hongjoong was wearing a facemask. The older omega patted his pockets and after checking whatever he needed to check, he looked at Wooyoung.
Even with half his face covered Wooyoung knew the other omega was smiling.
“What? Cannot sit beside you?”
“Uh, n-no.” Wooyoung cleared his throat and laughed, but as quiet as he could. He didn't want to bother the rest. “I was surprised, that's all.”
Hongjoong giggled and got himself comfortable on the seat. The space was limited, so not only their arms but also their legs were touching. Even with all of their clothes between them, Wooyoung felt a shiver running down his back.
His hyung was carrying heavy eye bags.
Wooyoung opened his mouth to ask him about his sleeping schedule. With all of their activities, Wooyoung ended up dead once his head hit the pillow, so he hadn't been able to notice if Hongjoong had been sleeping in their room or not. He wasn't even sure if his leader had been sleeping at all.
Hongjoong talked before he could ask about the topic:
“I brought some pills for motion sickness.” Hongjoong whispered with his face turned to him. He was almost melting on the seat. Wooyoung couldn't help himself but take a look at the way Hongjoong’s jeans looked against his thighs when he parted his legs like that. “If you need them, just tell me.”
Oh.
Wooyoung raised one eyebrow, confused.
“How did you know?”
Hongjoong rolled his eyes: “Because I saw you last time, of course. You looked terrible after that car ride. But I didn't notice the same effect when we traveled during the day.”
“Oh, yeah.” Stuck with a wave of emotions, Wooyoung suddenly felt his throat closing up. It could be because it was too early and his brain was not properly functioning, or maybe it was because of the calm atmosphere around them. Although there were people behind, Wooyoung felt like it was just the two of them inside that car. “I… I don't know, it only happens in the morning.”
“Probably because you don't eat breakfast. That's dangerous.”
“I'm on a diet-”
“Bullshit,” Hongjoong poked his leg with his index. “You have to eat something, at least some rice. I’ll get really mad if you get sick because of it.”
Wooyoung smiled and tilted his head to the side, feeling that soft bubble of love and affection growing inside his chest again. Looking at this person sitting beside him, sometimes Wooyoung wondered if it was possible to forget him or even get over him. And although he tried as hard as he could, Wooyoung couldn't imagine himself not being in love with Kim Hongjoong. More than that, he couldn't imagine a moment of his life loving another person with this intensity.
“Ah, hyung.” He hummed, smiling until his eyes were almost closed. “Are you that worried about me?”
“Of course I worry about you, dummy.” Hongjoong scoffed and placed his hands inside the pockets of his jacket. Wooyoung wondered if he was cold and if his fingers hurt because of the weather. Oh, how beautiful would it be if he was able to hold Hongjoong’s hand in his. “I always worry about you.”
Wooyoung giggled.
In Hongjoong’s language that was nothing but I love you.
Finally, their manager and Seonghwa arrived and they were ready to go, Yunho and Yeosang going in another car. Seonghwa sat on Hongjoong’s other side, trying to find a position in which his neck was not going to hurt from being bent over. For that moment, even San was already asleep and Wooyoung was getting ready to get some minutes of rest too. It was comfortable inside the van; warm and calm. However, he knew closing his eyes was not an option because it was easier to get sick.
For that reason Wooyoung was awake when Hongjoong fell asleep.
The omega’s head ended up pressed on Wooyoung’s shoulder and for one eternal second, Wooyoung didn't know how to react. The only thing he was able to do was get as still as possible, afraid of even breathing too loud and bothering Hongjoong. It was the same feeling when a cat decided to cuddle on your lap and you were afraid that the single movement would scare it away.
It wasn't the first time they slept together but usually it was Wooyoung the one using Hongjoong as a pillow, not the other way around.
In a way Wooyoung felt like this was a privilege.
“Oh, he was really tired.” Seonghwa whispered, stretching himself to look at Wooyoung who tried to observe him without completely turning his head to the side. An alarm went inside his head when he noticed Seonghwa’s hands getting closer to Hongjoong. “You look uncomfortable, let him rest on my shoul-”
“No.”
It was more than just a snap.
It was like a growl.
Wooyoung acted before he could stop himself because in that moment, it was his omega speaking.
His arm moved on its own, wrapping around Hongjoong’s shoulders and placing it closer to him. Wooyoung had to move around and hushed Hongjoong’s whines when the omega stirred, his eyebrows furrowed in what appeared annoyance. The omega got comfortable again while Wooyoung, acting without thinking, caressed his head in a calming manner.
It was such a possessive action that even Wooyoung was surprised, but at that moment he didn't care. He didn't care that their manager had probably heard part of the incident and he also didn't care about Seonghwa looking at him with something close to shock.
How hilarious , Wooyoung thought, an omega fighting against an alpha for another omega.
He felt as if his head was filled with water.
As it should be, because this omega is ours.
Wooyoung kept looking at Seonghwa, not daring to break eye contact. There was no way in which he was going to display such weakness against a rival.
What?
That's right. He is ours. Our omega. He cannot touch him. That alpha cannot touch our omega when he is in such a vulnerable state. Only we can protect him while he sleeps.
Finally, Seonghwa smiled with his usual gentle manner. He went back to his position on his seat, but Wooyoung was unable to fully relax. Now he was more than just aware of Hongjoong’s presence, the weight of the other omega against him was making his head get filled with something powerful.
“Okay,” His hyung whispered. “I just said it so you won't be uncomfortable.”
And that was all.
Seonghwa didn't say anything more but Wooyoung couldn't speak, not even give a funny answer to downplay the matter. The fog inside his head was clearing up and Wooyoung could understand until a certain point what he did.
He was embarrassed.
It wasn't the fact that he acted with possession and almost violence, but the way in which he had treated Seonghwa like he had been an enemy and not part of his pack. Wooyoung was nothing but mortified about the idea of acting like that towards someone who didn't do anything but take care of everyone sincerely. Wooyoung, in a way, had acted like he was ready to fight Seonghwa for… for Hongjoong.
Wooyoung was ashamed and wanted nothing more but to apologize to him.
However, he was not able to do it in time because Wooyoung kept thinking about which one were the best words.
He was not able to understand his own actions. The only thing inside his head was that he acted as if Hongjoong was his mate and come on, Wooyoung was not even able to properly court him! It made no sense.
The situation was giving him a headache.
“Uhm…”
Just like that, Wooyoung relaxed. Hongjoong was snuggling his face against his neck, just like that first time when out of nowhere he had hugged him in the hallway. With the facemask on, it didn't have the same effect because Wooyoung was not able to feel the touch of his nose, but… It was such an adorable action that Wooyoung wanted to coo. Hongjoong was cuddling him like a kitten.
He wanted to scream.
How bad he didn't have the option of taking a picture with his phone.
Like that, Wooyoung spent the rest of the trip still as a stone.
When Hongjoong finally woke up, when they arrived at their destination, he just blinked a few times and looked at Wooyoung’s face for long seconds. He was still half-asleep, so Wooyoung just shrugged and asked him:
“Were you able to rest?”
“I… yeah,” Hongjoong looked around. Seonghwa got around, trying to wake up the rest of the boys while their manager opened the door. “I didn't mean to fall asleep like that. Sorry, it was probably uncomfortable for you.”
Wooyoung chuckled.
Seonghwa looked at him and he got tense, the feeling of shame arriving again. The alpha was the first to look away, leaving the van in silence.
“It was fine, hyung, don't worry.” Wooyoung whispered. “I'm glad you could rest.”
Usually, Wooyoung was never uncomfortable around people, less his friends. Not even when he got there as the newbie was he really nervous. However, during that day, he couldn't shake the feeling of guilt eating him when he remembered the way in which he acted.
But at the same time, he didn't know how to approach Seonghwa to talk about it.
At the end, Wooyoung let it pass, trying to act as everything was alright.
Ω
Wooyoung was a positive person, you see. He tried his best to be energetic and never lose his hope that the next day was going to be better.
Really, he was okay with the way in which everything had developed so far. Even when he thought sharing a room with his crush was going to be hell for him, Wooyoung got used to it. But for some reason, since that decision things haven't gotten better or easier. Not at all. Each day was getting harder and harder.
Acting like everything was alright? Ha, what a joke!
Fun fact: Everything was not fucking alright.
Ω
Late at night, Wooyoung found himself chilling on his bed and playing games on his phone. The last time he checked it was two in the morning, but he was not tired since he took a power nap in the afternoon that turned into him passing out on the couch for almost three hours. The reason for Wooyoung to be able to do that was because he didn't have schedules for that day. It was supposed to be a rest day for some of them, and Wooyoung thought about going back home to see his parents and younger brother, but the idea was thrown to the trash when he ended up falling asleep in the middle of the day.
“Ah, come on.” He whined. His character had been killed once again by the same enemy. “I cannot believe this.”
The dorm was quiet. Wooyoung supposed they were asleep already, with the exception of San and Yunho who had been playing something on their computers last Wooyoung checked. Honestly, the only person that was MIA was their leader.
Hongjoong went out before Wooyoung fell asleep on the sofa. At that moment, Wooyoung was almost falling asleep on the couch (he was just resting his eyes, okay?) when he heard Hongjoong passing by, mumbling about going out and Wooyoung was not sure if it was Jongho or Seonghwa the one asking him where he was going.
“Oh, with the hyungs.”
And that was it.
Ah, Wooyoung had thought while falling deeper into dreamland, so he is going out with Eden and Maddox.
After all, Hongjoong had a limited amount of hyungs close to him.
Wooyoung wondered what they were doing.
In that moment, destiny decided to play a joke on him because Wooyoung didn't need to wonder anymore.
His character had been killed (again), making his mood go down, and added to that as the cherry on top, the battery of his phone was dying. Wooyoung grunted, looking at his poor 20% that wouldn't do to keep playing. Without any other option he rolled on the bed and fell down to the floor, cursing himself for leaving the charger on the floor instead of taking it with him.
“Got you.” He hummed.
Wooyoung was ready to climb on his bed again when the door opened. He stopped in his movement and looked at the new incomer. His first thought was Yeosang, someone who usually liked chatting in the middle of the night, but the idea was quickly erased when Wooyoung observed that it was nobody but Hongjoong himself.
“Oh, hyung.”
“Ah…” Hongjoong looked at him with unfocused eyes, his hand still on the doorknob. “Night…”
Wooyoung tilted his head and observed Hongjoong with more attention. The posture he had was of a person who was not only opening the door but also supporting himself on it. Plus, Wooyoung was sure it was not the lighting the reason for Hongjoong’s face color.
Giving three steps to get closer to him, Wooyoung took a sniff close to his hyung and shivered.
“You reek.” He tried to cover his nose to protect it from the smell. Hongjoong growled and finally released the door, giving another step inside the room but for the way in which he was not walking in a straight line, Wooyoung knew the boy was a disaster. “How much did you drink, hyung? I didn't even know you drink. That's dangerous.” Hongjoong tried to give another step in his bed’s direction, but he was having a hard time so Wooyoung did the only thing possible and stepped on his way, holding him by the shoulders. “You're a mess, hyung! Did you come here alone?”
The idea of Hongjoong walking like this was horrible. Not because someone could have seen it and that would be a disaster for their group. Wooyoung didn't give a fuck about that. He was worried about Hongjoong being assaulted or losing his way home.
“Agh, you're too loud-” Hongjoong whined and pressed himself against Wooyoung, suddenly his forehead was resting on his shoulder. “H-hyung guth me… here. It-s fine… dun’t worry tu much.”
Wooyoung scoffed.
“You're a disaster, and you reek.” Wooyoung went to hold him by the middle, curling his arm around Hongjoong’s tiny waist. Even with the clothes, Wooyoung was sure he was able to guess his figure. He swallowed down and scolded himself. This was not the moment to act like a dick. His hyung needed him. “You should take a shower, brush your teeth, change your clothes and go to bed.”
“Nuh! Don't wanna.” Hongjoong whimpered and snuggled his face against his shoulder. “Jus’ wanna sleep.”
“Come on, hyung, you’ll regret it in the morning.” Wooyoung tried with a gentler tone. “It's not gonna take that much time.”
Hongjoong made a sound like he was in pain just thinking about it and Wooyoung was sure he felt heavier than before. He had to bend his legs and tense his abdomen to not fall down because of it. Suddenly, holding Hongjoong up was more like a sport than anything. Besides that, his hyung was not cooperating. He kept whining like a baby and saying how sleepy he was.
Wooyoung understood that he was telling the truth.
He was falling asleep.
“Uhm, hyung.”
“ I'msleepy. ”
Wooyoung looked at the open door, thinking that at any moment Seonghwa was going to walk in and give a solution to the situation. He always did. Seonghwa was always the one taking care of Hongjoong in such a manner. Honestly, Wooyoung had never dealt with a needy and grumpy Hongjoong, not to this level. The version of him half asleep and awake were like different persons.
Yet…
We should take care of him. Our omega. He needs us.
Wooyoung held Hongjoong with both arms, trying to put some distance between them to look at his hyung’s face. Hongjoong’s eyes were still unfocused and he made a face when Wooyoung called his name, trying to catch his attention.
“Ugh.”
“At least you should brush your teeth and clean your face, hyung. And change your clothes.” Shower could wait because Wooyoung was not prepared to do something like that for Hongjoong and at the same time, he wanted to respect Hongjoong’s boundaries. He didn't want to think about taking advantage of Hongjoong in such a state. Wooyoung took a deep breath and softly muttered: “I’ll help you, ‘kay?”
Hongjoong nodded while humming.
With Hongjoong’s state in mind, Wooyoung worked as gently as possible with him. He passed one arm around his waist to guide him to the closest bathroom to their room. Walking in a silent mood was a challenge, more so when Wooyoung was absolutely guiding Hongjoong like the man was made of sand. When they finally arrived at the bathroom and Wooyoung was able to sit his hyung on the toilet lid, he was sweating in his pajamas.
“Uff, okay. We’re here.” Wooyoung commented while panting. He noticed Hongjoong’s closing his eyes and decided that it was the moment to act quickly. Being fast, Wooyoung took Hongjoong’s brush (the red one. Thank god they made that rule of not using the same colors), put some paste and crouched down in front of him.
At that moment, he noticed his own hands were shaking.
Wooyoung understodd right there that he was fucking nervous and the sweat was not only because of the exercise.
He was nervous about this situation.
“Open up, hyung.”
Hongjoong did.
Wooyoung forced himself to stop trembling and not think about how intimate and honestly weird this whole situation was.
He was able to control the movement of his hand and as carefully as he could, started cleaning Hongjoong’s teeth with the toothbrush. The movements were mechanical, Wooyoung already knew how to help another person with this because of his little brother. He had done this more than once in the past, but of course, never with an adult.
Wooyoung tried not to look at the way in which Hongjoong was closing his eyes and making tiny noises. Sincerely, such a situation should make Wooyoung disgusted because, come on, they were close in age.
“I- ugh…”
“Uhm, what?
Hongjoong was trying to formulate something.
Wooyoung took the brush out.
“I…, uh, dizzy.”
Oh, right.
Wooyoung kicked himself inside his mind, hard. He pressed his mouth together and helped Hongjoong standing up again to take water and spit on the sink. The movement was slow and controlled, Wooyoung was trying to move his hyung the least possible. He dried Hongjoong’s mouth with a piece of paper and sat him down again.
Now everything was clear.
Wooyoung smiled and caressed the other’s omega hair, feeling tenderness inside himself.
“I’ll be quick, hyung. Just hang it there, ‘kay? Then I’ll take you to bed.”
“Uhum.”
He did all the work. Wooyoung wetted a cotton pad with his cleaner and caressed Hongjoong’s face with it, going from his cheeks, to his forehead and even part of his neck. There was not a lot of make-up, but still, Wooyoung tried to work as best as possible as fast as he could. Hongjoong just kept there, with his eyes closed and humming from time to time.
Wooyoung did the same procedement with the rest of things that were priority; the different creams and lotions for Hongjoong’s skin. At least it was enough for him to sleep comfortably for the night.
“All ready.”
And then the same as before, being patient and careful, Wooyoung took him to their room. Even when Hongjoong was whinier than before and didn't collaborate in the walking part, Wooyoung just kept going.
When it was time to change his clothes, Wooyoung was not nervous and his hands were not trembling. He felt nothing but a clear calm in his head, like suddenly the fog that had been there disappeared. There was no reason for being nervous, after all. This was not only his beloved, but his dear friend. Wooyoung would do anything for his friends and because he loved Hongjoong sincerely and deeply, he would take care of him. Now was not the moment to think with his (damn him) dick.
Probably, the next morning Hongjoong was going to be embarrassed.
Of course, if he remembered.
But there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
Hongjoong had been there when Wooyoung presented and had his first heat, he was there to comfort him and dry his sweat. He had been there when Wooyoung got food poisoned in the middle of their trip and caressed his back while Wooyoung threw his guts on the hotel’s toilet. His hyung had been there when he made a mistake in a performance and told him he was no failure. He had been there when Wooyoung had trembled with insecurity and fear, failing to show himself positive and confident when they were going to perform on a big stage for the first time.
His hyung was the one noticing his bad mood when reading comments that hurted him, something about him not being enough, not pretty enough, not skinny enough. It had been Hongjoong the one who found him forcing himself to throw the food after dinner and when Wooyoung thought Hongjoong was going to yell at him, scolding him for doing something like that, the only thing he did was helping him to clean the mess in his mouth and then hug him.
Hongjoong had watched him in different vulnerable and embarrassing moments in the past, but Hongjoong always hide when he needed help.
“There.” Wooyoung whispered, after finally helping Hongjoong into his pajama pants. The omega was sitting on the bottom bed and Wooyoung was kneeling in front of him. “Now you just have to put them up. You're ready for bed. Wasn't that hard, right?”
“My head doesn't stop muving .”
“Yeah, I know, hyung.” Wooyoung pouted, hating the fact that he was so uncomfortable. “You just need to rest now. Come on.”
Wooyoung stood up and of course, Hongjoong was not even moving. Wooyoung helped him with his pants and then held him again, trying to make him lay down without just throwing him on the bed.
“There, there, there you go, hyung.” Wooyoung smiled.
Before he could get away to cover Hongjoong with his blankets, the omega was hugging him by the neck. It was weird and so out-of-character for his hyung to do something like that. For a brief moment, Wooyoung’s brain didn't have the opportunity to process everything. Hongjoong was hugging him like a pup and refusing to let go. Now even Wooyoung’s back was starting to ache.
“Uhm, hyung…?” Wooyoung chuckled, not knowing what to do. Carefully, he held Hongjoong’s wrists. “Hyung, you can let go. You need to rest.”
“Don’t go…” Hongjoong whispered, making an effort to put Wooyoung closer and for a moment Wooyoung was sure he was going to fall on top of him. “Stay. Don't go.”
Shit.
Biting his lower lip, Wooyoung observed Hongjoong’s pillow. Now his heart was starting to act again and that voice inside him was telling him it was okay to be with Hongjoong, he was asking for Wooyoung to stay, after all.
But…
“You're drunk, hyung.” Wooyoung tried again, his voice soft and calm even when inside him a storm was happening. “You don't know what you're talking about. Just go to sleep.”
Wooyoung tried to pry Hongjoong’s arms away from him, but of course, it was difficult because he didn't want to hurt the other omega. Hongjoong was not in his right mind, that was for sure. It wasn't possible Wooyoung was facing such a situation. They had drunk together in the past, but he had never handled or seen Hongjoong act like this. For Wooyoung, this was new. Usually when they drink, Hongjoong got more relaxed and giggled with the little things, but this was a whole new level.
What a surprise knowing his hyung was an affectionate drunk.
If the situation was not a torture for him, Wooyoung would thought Hongjoong was hella cute.
“‘m not drunk.”
“Oh, yes you are, Hongjoong-ah.”
“Ah, don't talk to me like th-,” Hongjoong hiccuped (shit! How cute). “Like that. ‘m your hyuuuung.”
“You're really drunk.” Wooyoung tried to laugh again. “You’ll regret this in the morning.”
“But ‘m not druunk. You're Young-ah, see? I know you.” Hongjoong’s words were heavy and some of them had a bit of an accent. However, Wooyoung stopped the brief struggle after hearing him. “‘m not that drunk. I know it's yuh, Young-ah. Just… just stay, ‘kay? Please?”
Hongjoong was not an impolite person, however usually when he addressed Wooyoung he never used please. Wooyoung himself didn't know why, or it could be that in general Hongjoong tended to order around and use a sharp tone of voice to make his point clear. It was his way of acting and everyone was aware of it, they were used to that. They would get a thank you from their captain, but usually not that first magic word.
Right now, hearing that hit harder than Wooyoung thought.
Or it could be the fact that Hongjoong knew it was him.
Right now, inside that room, it was the two of them. He, Jung Wooyoung, was the one taking care of Hongjoong. It was not Seonghwa hyung the one who had his hands full of Hongjoong. It was Wooyoung. He.
And Hongjoong was asking for him, not another person.
“You’re waaaarm.”
“Hyung…”
“Please, Young-ah,” Hongjoong hiccuped again. His hold got stronger around his neck. “My aaarms are gutting tire ’”
It was just for tonight, Wooyoung said to himself. It was just for a few hours. It was fine. It was nothing out of this world. Hongjoong was a cuddler when he was drunk and honestly, it was adorable. Wooyoung was great with cuddles. He loved them. He was always cuddling with San, Yeosang and Seonghwa. It was the best feeling in the world.
He supposed that even Hongjoong, the one who avoided human contact during the day, wanted to be held sometimes.
“Alright.” Wooyoung pressed his knee on the bed to support himself. It was still hard to move around with Hongjoong climbing to him like an overgrown koala. He tried to move him to the side, creating a space for himself. “At least could you let me go for a second?”
“Nop.”
“Aish, if you weren't so cute…” Wooyoung laughed.
It took him a bit but finally, Wooyoung was able to rest on his side. Since Hongjoong didn't want to let go, now his arm was being used as a pillow. Wooyoung knew that after some minutes, he was going to feel numb and with blood circulation problems, but it didn't matter.
At last Hongjoong was more relaxed.
Since Wooyoung forgot to turn off the light, he was able to look at Hongjoong’s sleepy face. He noticed the way in which his hyung’s eyes were closing and his breathing was more relaxed. Wooyoung was not sure how long it took him helping Hongjoong to get into bed, but it felt like years.
The silence they shared was nothing uncomfortable.
Hongjoong smiled and got closer, his nose almost touching Wooyoung’s.
“I like it.” He murmured.
“Uhm?” Wooyoung smiled again. “What?”
Right now it was just the two of them.
“Your moles…” With the tip of his finger Hongjoong pressed below his eye. Wooyoung was sure that the heat he was feeling was not because of being close to another person. He was blushing. He prayed Hongjoong didn't notice. “I’d… always like them.”
“Ah,” The laugh that left his lips was a nervous one. “Wow, even you can say embarrassing things, don't you, hyung? Well, I suppose it makes sense. You write excellent songs for a reason.”
Wooyoung swallowed, his throat was aching and his face felt warmer.
Nevertheless, he understood his words were his heart speaking too:
“Being really honest…, since you always find the right words and… can talk like this.” Wooyoung mumbled, watching Hongjoong’s eyes and feeling the warmth of his palm against his face. “I always wonder what’s inside your head, hyung. You… How do you see the world? What are you looking at? How are you looking at it? What are you seeing? Sometimes I look at you and want to ask you that.” Because Hongjoong had a sharp tongue but could also write poetry. However, it was not usual for him to speak it outloud. “I want to be able to look at the world as you do…”
Probably, if he was more intelligent he could be at the same level.
“I wonder how…”
Really, Hongjoong was an excellent person. It was the type of person who knew what he wanted and didn't care how hard it was. The type of person who was able to get everything he wished for.
An omega like that was on a different level.
“I wonder what you think when you look at me.” Wooyoung whispered and then he chuckled. Hongjoong seemed too busy paying attention to the mole under his eye to understand his words. But it was fine. Wooyoung was fine. “I wonder if you think something positive about me, like… Not like a brother or a friend.”
But like a lover.
Wooyoung giggled. “God, I'm making a fool of myself here. So, so pathetic. But it’s fine. After all, tomorrow morning you will not remember this.”
He sighed and forced himself to smile. Such a depressive mood was not the idea.
“Weren't you sleepy? Fall asleep already.” Wooyoung wrinkled his nose. “You don't seem that sleepy anymore.”
Even when cuddling with Hongjoong seemed great, Wooyoung knew it wasn't the best for him and his heart. He was going to wait until the man finally closed his eyes to go back to his own bed and turn off the lights. After all, Wooyoung was sure Hongjoong would die on the spot if he woke up with Wooyoung hugging him. Probably he would combust if he remembered the way in which he acted.
“Go to sleep, hyung, come on.”
“You're… you're a star, Wooyoung-ah.”
Hongjoong’s whisper was like a bullet to his heart.
“A shiny star. Like the sun itself.” Hongjoong was looking at him and for a moment he didn't seem drunk. Wooyoung just realized how close they really were and how heavy his hyung’s hand felt. He didn't notice the moment in which Hongjoong cupped his face, not just poking his mole. “And I like that…, it's just…”
Wooyoung held his breath, scared of making even a small sound.
Then the same as before, Hongjoong was bumping his mole. He giggled.
“I really like this.”
Ah, right.
Hongjoong was still drunk.
Without anything more to do, Wooyoung could just laugh.
“That was nice, hyun-”
“But I like this one better.”
And just like that, Hongjoong was kissing him.
