BEN SOLO (O.S.)
Time-lapse of the ocean and sky above it as the sun goes down and darkness begins to creep its way through the screen, slowly covering everything that once was light.
“You look so lonely. So afraid to leave. At night, desperate to sleep. You imagine the ocean, I see it. I see the island. Why is the Force connecting us? You and I.”
The screen changes to a forest filled with deep green hues and beauty spread everywhere. Animals walk through the forest peacefully and everything is balanced, as it should be.
“I can’t seem to understand it. The flow of the Force. How it connects every living thing together, but not the dead. Because aren't we all dead? Slowly letting our lives dissolve into nothing?”
The forest begins to decay, the trees turn dark and die. The animals collapse, and the balance of the forest is destroyed indefinitely.
“Fighting just to fight, living just to live, loving just to love. And yet, we’re connected. Never apart, always intertwined, living as one.”
Ben is seen standing in front of a mirror, attempting to cover up the cruel scar that stretches across his troubled face. He moves his hands away from his face and gives one last look into the mirror. Angrily, he punches his hand through the mirror, shattering the glass and leaving his reflection uneven and cracked.
“You’d never understand. You’d never think long enough to truly comprehend what I live for, what I kill for, what I breathe for. It haunts me like a ghost haunts his mark. Ruthlessly and mercilessly. It whispers deceitful thoughts into my ear and leaves insecurities in my mind. And no matter how hard I try, I can’t fight it. Because it’s you, Rey. You are my ghost.”
