Midnight Entrapments

Summary:

I have a lot of writing I want to share but getting published is hard so here's a bunch of poems! My idea was to go through different themes and emotions that people face and I'm hoping people can relate with some of the poems.

P.S. the fandoms aren't explicitly mentioned, but some poems are inspired by them and may contain spoilers

Notes:

The prompt for this one was a year in reflection.

Chapter 1: Heart

Chapter Text

It’s the vice grip surrounding the heart
slowing the beats of life and the breaths you take
The world stops spinning as the numb sets in.
The heart is going through the motions,
but it’s not all there.

There are whispers of soothing
that bring about an uptick of the heart
as it beats for life.
The hope of a new year filled with resolutions.
promises to one’s self that are rarely fulfilled.

The stretch of the winter cold that settles in the heart
as cupids play in a snowy wonderland.
You have a chance at luck with a pot of gold.
Your heart is beginning to thaw
as the snow melts around.

A time of reflection as you watch the pitter patter
of the windowsill you sullenly look upon.
There is a time of awakening
and a new beginning
as the flowers bloom once more outside your door.

The sun shines upon you as animals appear.
Taking in nature with strides of confidence
that you had hoped for in yourself.
The days where you look at how far we’ve come.
The battles you’ve faced and that heritage you proudly show.

The sun begins to swelter as you wish for its demise.
The air is chilly
and it’s almost sweater weather.
The leaves change and so do you.
New looks, new feelings, new you.

Candy and witches and maple flavors.
they show you as fall is in full swing.
Giving thanks for what you have
because it’s all you need.
Surrounded by loved ones as the ice seeps back in.

The care warms you up, but it doesn’t last.
You’re left again to your own demise.
The lights are taken down
and the soft glow of the fire
is set to ash in the cozy home.

The cold is back,
but the new year is coming again.
And it’s bringing back the streaks of warmth
for the hollowed heart.
