Rays of sun illuminated the main room of the de Sade's countryside house through a half-closed window. The light reflected on the pale skin of a white-haired girl who was in the arms of another person, the youngest of de Sades, both still deep in sleep. Not a while after the sun raised, Dominique's eyes fluttered open, smiling faintly after her eyes adjusted to the light and they landed on the other’s still asleep face. It’s the first time in a long time that they could have some time alone. Since Jeanne got engaged to a marquis from another province due to her family orders, she had been kept occupied by them to start making the preparations. Domi wasn’t gonna lie, it pained her so much but she didn’t let herself complain because this is probably what Jeanne also felt when she also got announced to be put into a marriage of convenience and her wedding coming even sooner.
Her thoughts were put to a full stop when she felt the white-haired girl stir off her sleep. “Good morning, darling” Jeanne said quietly looking up into Domi’s eyes. “Good morning, mon cherrí” she replied back leaning a bit and putting her lips on the other’s for a peck, both giggling into it.
Even if the sun was really bright at that moment, it had been a really snowy night so it was no wonder when they got outside and it was all covered by snow. But for the better, thought Dominique, this made the already remoted house even harder to access, so it made her feel safer because no one can know what they actually do here is way more than just two good friends having bonding time. Jeanne was looking at the tall plants that were covered in snow that was melting a bit already, Dominique could just only smile looking at her actual lover, she had missed her so much and she looked so like a winter fairy in the garden covered in snow with the faint sun making her white hair shine so prettily. It hurt so much more than she wanted to admit, keeping their love and affection in closed rooms or in remote forgotten lands, out of everyone else’s sight, keeping the play of the good family daughters that will marry soon to other people.
“Isn’t it a bit cold?” The black hair’s thoughts once again stopped by the other girl’s presence. “It’s still winter so no wonder why” she replied with a faint smile and grabbed her hands, seeing Jeanne giggling and smiling so beautifully at her. And god, how good she felt as if all the pain she keeps overthinking left her body for a bit. She really wished time could stop and let them be here forever, without pain, without soon having husbands they don’t want, just the two of them forever together.
But they only had very few days to spend together in the countryside house of Dominique’s family, and before they knew it, a carriage had appeared at the front door to take them back to Paris. The travel back home was silent but also comforting for just having each other’s presence, sited next to each other, hands faintly intertwining, covering blushing cheeks and smiles, knowing that when they get to the city they will have to put on an imaginary mask and pretend.
The winter went away and spring was starting, the snow melted and from the frozen ground, flowers started to grow. Dominique’s wedding was really a few days from there, and it was finally sinking in. She was so scared, she did not want to marry this man she barely knew, she wished to be just with Jeanne.
She was attending one of the last events her family made her before the wedding, there were so many people she didn’t know, she was never fond of the socialite life and never bonded with anyone at this kind of event. Luckily Jeanne has previously told her she would be also attending even if it was just small talk or even eye contact with her made her feel calmer. She searched for the whole room with her eyes wanting to see the beautiful set of yellow eyes, and she got to see them after a few minutes of searching. Jeanne looked so beautiful in a pink gown that made her skin look even paler and her eyes shine. When they made eye contact and gave each other shy smiles, the dark-haired girl felt a hand sliding through her waist. She felt a chill go down her spine, knowing it was her fianceé. She made eye contact with him, her smiling turning into a really forced one but it’s not like he would even notice. When she took her eyes from the man, she tried to search for the pretty white-haired girl in the crowd, as always her just presence has a miracle effect on her.
Next time they saw each other was the day of Dominique’s wedding. The spring was already in full bloom, but so was the pain and fear. She felt lucky that even if their family suspected them, they let them be alone for a bit before they had to go to the ceremony. She needed the other so bad with her even if it was just for that little moment. “I don’t want this.” Domi said in a cried when Jeanne hugged her. “I don’t want to marry him.” continued as she buried her face in the white-haired girl's shoulder. “You know it’s for the best of your family, right?” she replied petting the other’s hair trying to not mess much with it. “I know, but is it really what’s the best for me? Why can’t I be happy and spend my life with you?” She choked on a sob and started actually crying, wetting the other’s shoulder. “I’m not gonna never leave you.” That’s all Jeanne replied and it calmed Dominique a bit but little by little the fears came back into her overthinking mind. “But not like this, we can’t stay like this, stealing moments and trying to get the most time out of the few times we can see each other behind closed doors. We are gonna be married to other people. If any of them finds out about this, what would happen?” She started ranting, making a few second stops to clean her tears. All Jeanne could do was cry too. “I know, I know, but what else can we do?” she replied. “Just tell me to run away, and I will, I have thought about it all this time. We can just run away and we will figure it all out after leaving. Please. Just tell me that or will you sit and watch how we become apart and be always with our husbands?” She sounded so desperate, clutching on the other’s gown’s top with her face facing down, tears not stopping.
And next thing she felt was her face being lifted by her chin and feeling other lips on hers. While it was not rough or passionate both of them lost themselves in the kiss. It was just them expressing their true raw emotions they couldn’t do by words. “Please, please, run away with me.” Jeanne said really close to Dominique’s lips when they separated. “Don’t even say it twice.” She replied taking the other’s hands and getting up, making the other follow her through the almost already empty house, trying not to cross paths with the few people that were left and stealing a carriage, leaving with no plan of returning again, trying to start a new life really far away from Paris so they could be always together.
