Work Text:

Today was a long day, you’ll admit, starting off tired, ending tired, you could have sworn your brain shut off the moment you read the time on your phone. The current school quarter didn’t make your daily exhaustion any better, getting up, ruining any semblance of a sleep schedule and squeezing every ounce of stress out of your head, leaving you a hollow mess.

Your bed is comforting, the soft sheets and thick blanket wrapping around you like a thickly cocooned larva, the time is irrelevant, it’s night and not too late, that’s all you need to know to feel comfortable right now.

You twist and turn, taking your pillows with you as you churn to the other side of bed, unsuccessfully trying to complete full on comfort. Thoughts creep in once again as your position changes, ugly thoughts in your mind seeping in like a leak on a pipe.

When did it get this bad?

The question is redundant to ask now, it’s always been this shitty, whether you would’ve wanted to admit it or not. You can’t hide from it for too long–

All intrusive thoughts are knocked clean out of your head as you hear a knock on your window, not too far from where your tired body lay. What was that?

You lift yourself up, yawning slightly as you rub a stray tear off of your waterline. Cautiously, you approach the end of your bed frame, remembering you left the curtains open today. Your eyes flutter open while you crawl, noticing what seems to be the frame of another’s body painted as a shadow on your bedroom floor, hanging? “ Wait ,” You begin to piece two and two together, it had to be him, Randy.

You come closer to the window, confirming your suspicions as you spot a dark crimson scarf, shaded by the night hanging from the top of your window. You can’t help but smile upon noticing Randy’s masked face through the glass, his deep blue eyes still penetrated into your own, even in the darkness. The bottom portion of the cut out part of his mask lifts, it appears he’s smiling back.

Instinctively, you hop off the bed and rush to the window, unlocking it and sliding it to the other side, letting the cool outside air come into your room as he quickly unmounts your roof, landing on his feet in front of your window before climbing in.

“Hey buddy,” Randy says to you in a hushed but friendly tone, “You called?” He asked rhetorically, taking off his mask. The red light and black bands light up your room, causing you to fling your arms in front of your eyes. You could hear him curse slightly upon taking it off, “Shit, sorry.” He quickly takes off his shoes, opting to place them just under the window before sliding it back closed himself.

“Yeah… Not feeling too well, Randy.” You rub the back of your head, looking away as he initiates eye contact with you. He can tell you’re feeling a little embarrassed right now, perhaps for asking the help of some guy across town at this hour of the night.

“It’s alright, sorry for not coming earlier, Howard’s uh, he’s been bugging me about homework and Grave Puncher IV, y’know?” Randy chuckles.

That cute chuckle. You think as your cheeks glow a subtle rosy colour, smiling and scoffing, “Yeah, he can be like that sometimes.” Randy looks around your room, well, at least as much as the moon permits, it’s pitch dark aside from your phone’s screen radiating a dim light from the bed, “Ha, yeah… Do you need me to talk or listen to you? I’m more than happy to stay for a while here.” The boy walks over to your bed, sitting down casually as he rests against the end of the mattress.

You sit down as well on the other side, except lying down more, the side of your head making quick contact with your pillow. Your lungs breathe a silent sigh as you look at Randy, “Things have been going down the drain lately, you know? Just… School, family, all that.” You start, Randy scoots over closer, laying on your blanket, nodding his head, “I’m listening.” The brunette replies.

Your eyes make quick contact before you begin to trail off with a plethora of rants, complaints, and frustrations to Randy, in which he made no comment nor disturbed you.

In the middle of your venting, your throat suddenly closes up, and it’s only now you realise your eyes begin to burn, mouth quivering slightly.

You quickly shut yourself up, burying your face into the pillow, silently hoping he doesn’t take note.

Who am I kidding? He’s the ninja , of course he’ll notice, and he did.

“Buddy?” The tone of his concerned voice permeates through the air as you look back up at him, eyes shining under the dim light of the moon close by. “Yeah?” You manage to get out, voice ever so on the edge of breaking.

Randy is quick to take his jacket off, to your surprise, revealing his signature red undershirt as he comes closer, crawling while his jacket is clutched in his hands. You look him in the eye and then to his dark teal hoodie, wiping your left eye quickly before getting up.

Hesitantly, you take it, and bring it into your arms, hugging it close to you. “Randy?” You call for the boy, who’s now sitting down in the middle of your bed, “You can put it on if you’d like.” Randy smiles.

Why does he have to be so kind? You comment, taking the jacket behind you and sliding the sleeves on. As scummy as McFist is, he did make nice jackets. You thank Randy with a silent “Thanks.” while you zip up the hoodie halfway, cheeks now  pleasantly warm and no longer stinging with agony as earlier.

Randy hugs you, rather tightly as soon as your hands come off of the metal zipper.

It’s… Almost alien how warm and friendly he is. You’ve mostly only known him as the loud mouthed, ambitious boy with a heart of gold and dumb of ass. But now he’s hugging you in your room, in near pitch black dark, not saying a word.

A tear falls down your face before you know it, sniffling almost immediately.

“Shh… There, I got you pal. Don’t gotta say anything, I’m here.” He rubs your back in gentle circles as he leans back, letting you fall in between his shoulder and chest. It’s comforting, more so than you thought you would want to admit after this. You clutch his shirt lightly, scrunching up the fabric between your fingers while you sob onto him.

Your cries stop soon after, lulled by the feeling of Randy breathing and his hand over your back, keeping you calm and still.

The two of you stay like that for a  while, sitting down on your bed, it’s calm, cool, and quiet.

Until Randy decides to fall down, laying gently on one of the pillows and holding you close to his body. You don’t mind at this point, perhaps even glad that he did so. More proven how you relax further, laying on his chest.

Randy picks up his phone, opening it and lighting up the corner of your bed. You look up at him with glossed over eyes, clearly tired.

“I’m just gonna tell my mom and Howard I’m staying here for a  while, ‘kay?” He looks down at you, smiling. You nod, “Yeah, I guess I should tell my mom too.” You reply, snuggling close to him while putting his hood on.

The sight makes him blush, looking down at you holding him back while you pull out your phone, presumably to text your mother. He goes back to his own phone, quickly typing before turning it off. You do the same, leaving to place it on your nightstand before returning to your previous spot.

“Randy?”

“Yeah?”

“Stay the night, please?”

He responds with a light hum before replying, “Sure thing bud.”
