Morning, Jean

Summary:

Diluc sneaks into Jean’s room after a long night of Dark Night Hero work. She isn’t fooled.

Notes:

I know it’s incredibly short and sweet but have some Jealuc fluff on Diluc’s birthday!

Work Text:

Morning dew on the flowers in the window box. A gentle stream of soft blue-yellow light that streamed in through the curtains. She didn’t stir even as the door gently creaked open, bare feet padding heavily, tiredly across the hardwood floor. He’d left his shoes at the door, but opted to slip underneath the sheets and bedding fully clothed. He wasn’t going to be there for long, anyways.

At least, that was the case if the clock on her wall was accurate. That didn’t prevent him from wrapping her up in his arms for the moment. Savoring the smell of her hair and the coolness of her skin compared to his own feverish complexion. He had maybe 5 minutes to bask in her until she drew herself fully awake.

He got 3. Three blissful minutes until he felt palms flat on his back, trailing up to the spot between his broad shoulder blades. Diluc breathed in, a deep long breath before he opened his eyes and found blue ones staring back.

“Morning.”

Her fingers balled around the fabric that made the hood of his outfit, not too roughly, but enough that he knew she was doing it. “You haven’t slept.”

Diluc smiled at her, pulling a hand up from her hip to brush unruly hair out of her face. “You caught me.”

Jean sighed, untangling her arms from around him so she could roll over onto her back, turning her head just so that she could assess the clock adorning her bedroom wall. Diluc scooted forward, tangling his fingers in hers and peppering her shoulder in saccharine kisses. She closed her eyes at the feeling, breathing deeply as he took her hand and brought the backside of it to his lips. Pausing only for just a moment before laying one final golden kiss upon it.

She wanted to scold him, for continually pushing the limits of when he could stop his nocturnal activities. Later and later still. But he was here, in her bed, like he promised. And for that? She was grateful.

His chin burned the end of her collarbone, waiting for her to open her beautiful eyes again for him.

“You are going to collapse.” She turned her head back to his gaze, before finally opening her eyes again.

“Who are you and what have you done with Jean?” The redhead teased, raising a brow.

Jean scoffed, “I am Jean.” She untangled their fingers, moving her legs off the side of the bed until her heels rested firmly on the cold flooring. “And I have to go to work.”

She swiftly gathered her blonde locks into her hand, before fastening it up in a ponytail with the ribbon on her nightstand. Diluc simply watched the flex of the muscles in her back, moving his arm up under the pillow to support his head better. One didn’t often see the Acting Grand Master in a nightgown.

“Five more minutes?”

Her shoulder’s dropped, hands feeling around in the bedsheets for a moment as if maybe, just maybe, she was considering it. Ultimately her dutifulness won out, as she used those same hands to push herself off the bed. “I can’t keep Amber waiting around for me.”

He let his eyes follow her around the room until she reached her closet. Pulling out a freshly ironed and hung set of her work clothes. And just as Diluc moved to push himself out of the sheets, her fingers dug down into his chest, keeping him down in his surprise.

“You, however… are going to stay here and get some sleep.”

He dropped his elbows back down, obliging her. Simply nodding his head as she scuttled around the room, getting dressed for the day.

She was simply so caring… and a tad hypocritical. Typical of the Knights, he thought.
