Chapter 1: You died unloved, and unremembered

Chapter Text

"Wake up, Sara!"

" I didn't mean to- Sara!"

Miko!

'Sara' wakes up gasping for air, and everything to her is unknown.

She wakes up on a operating table, the metal cold against her bandaged skin, and feels nothing, no pain, no emotion. She hears ringing in her ears and a single voice. She hadn't noticed him at all, for some reason she felt as if she should've, that she should've been better-

He talks to her so fast she couldn't even catch up, the ringing slowly came to a stop and his words were clearer that before.

He wore a mask, but only a cheek and half of his mouth could be seen, he had curly blue hair but it only brought out the red of his eyes, he wore a white coat that made him look like a fancy doctor but her attention was on the gray symbol of his mask.

A mask.

She touches her head unconsciously, and feels something missing.

She looks at him unsure. Unsure of why he looked at her excitedly, she could tell he was proud, saying words like "Success!"  and things about his experiment working. His gloved hands moves her hair to the side, and presses a finger on the bandage over her left eye, "You lost your eye but we've placed a-!"

Then, it hits her like an ice spike.

Excruciating pain, and overwhelming emotion.

Nothing, was attacking her, but the need to defend herself soared.

Without a warning, the feelings she had were strong enough to have her screaming and thrashing around, attacking everything she saw. She knocked down a table before jumping on the doctor, whatever metal on it, fell to the ground with a clang. It was as if touching her eye triggered something in her, she could feel a cold, painful spike as he pressed. A thousand knives pierced into her the moment he touched her eye.

The man before him, didn't run away or look scared at all, he laughed, sadistic and sickening and let 'Sara' attack him, dodging her attacks as she clumsily attacked him, hurting herself in the process.

'Sara' was fast, she had almost caught him multiple times but that didn't deter his fun.

"Interesting reaction!" He laughed as 'Sara' accidentally slammed herself onto the wall, "Here I thought you'd only be an empty husk".

This is where, 'Sara' finds the strength to speak, staring at him angrily "W-Who are you! I c-command you to t-tell me!".

"Just a doctor, with a successful experiment. Our grace would be so proud to hear that you have lived!" He speaks easily and undisturbed, the complete opposite of what 'Sara' felt as of the moment.

She looks at him in panic as her feelings form to words.

Angry

Betrayed

Foolish

Why does she feel all of those things?

The doctor notices her calming down, he looked disappointed, "Your name is Sara, you've been abandoned by everyone around you. Your life is a lie".

"What?" She chokes and starts backing away.

She slips and lands on her butt, but moves to get as far as she can from the sadistic man with blue hair. She accidentally pushes away a red mask, and a electro vision while scurrying away from him.

"You died unloved, and unremembered. You were treated as a fool by everyone, and no one has missed you" He grins seeing the pitiful look on her face, the heartbreak behind her eyes, "Your old God never cared for you, and the family you were raised in only used and belittled you".

Sara has no memory to support anything he said, but his words shattered her, somehow... she knew they were true. A pit in her stomach formed, and she started tasting bile on her tongue.

'You died'

So why am I alive?

He pauses a few steps in front of her, and dramatically spreads his arms wide "You're lucky! My God has saved you, chosen you, and you may start anew!".

"Dottore" A deep voice called, his voice echoing in the room. 'Dottore' looks behind him smiling, but the man still had a frown on his face, "You're confusing her, she's a blank slate, remember?".

"Trust me, Pierro. Its better that she's like this" Dottore rests his hands in his pockets, still smiling at Sara.

'Pierro' looks at her, "You're alive, good. Our benevolent God is right, there is something different about you".

Sara stares at them shaking slightly, eyes furrowed, and teeth gritted. From what she could gather, her old God was uncaring of her, and their God saw her as someone special.

Why does that feel so wrong?

"Our Royal Highness, Tsaritsa, has chosen you as an Harbinger, to join our ranks" He looks down on Sara, who was still sitting helplessly on the cold floor of the room, "I was tasked that the moment you have awoken to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth".

He offers her a hand "Only if you accept".

"Why should I even consider? I don't know who the hell you are" Sara says, reluctant to even go near them, her voice wasn't raised but it was cautious.

"You should accept because we're the only ones who could ever accept you, and see you a something more than an objectification" He says calmly, then kneels to Sara's level, a welcoming act.

"We need you".

She sees her reflection in his dead eyes, Sara was angry, confused, and resurrected.

She didn't know any better, other than to accept the hand, and say "I accept".

Yae Miko, the cunning, intelligent Kitsune, the familiar of the Electro Archon, the Guuji Yae of the Grand Narukami Shrine on top Mt. Yougou.

Was in love.

But her lover was dead.

"Wake up, Sara!".

Yae Miko, a close friend of the Electro Archon, the mysterious intimidating Youkai, the lady who is rarely seen without a smile.

Was in love with the idiot Tengu, Kujou Sara.

And she had sent her to her death.

"I didn't mean to- Sara!".

It was a miscalculation, she hadn't expected La Signora to pierce her lover with a ice shard through her heart. She hadn't expected for the Raiden Shogun- not Ei, to let the general die on the floor of Tenshukaku.

Their last interaction was cruel, she had deceived her, hidden her plans from her, used her like a pawn.

With only little worry, she allowed an angry Kujou Sara, to knock down all of the guards in Tenshukaku, and get herself killed.

She didn't mean for her to die, she wishes it was only nightmare, but the body in front of her made it clear it wasn't, it was reality, as much as she hoped it wasn't.

"You're thinking about her again", Yae blinks, she doesn't need to look behind her to know it was Ei. "What makes you say so?" She answers her with a question, Ei gives her a look.

"There isn't a day where you don't think about her" Ei walks to stand beside her, and places a hand on Yae's shoulder "You were looking at where we buried her for the 5th time today". Yae redirects her gaze to the people of Inazuma, who were celebrating the current festival, everyone looked like they had fun especially the children. Yae chuckles at the sight of herself, she should be there enjoying the festival as well, hmm?

"Today, they're celebrating the 5th year of the abolishment of the vision hunt decree, the day my Sara died" She says solemnly. She mutes the sound of the newly released fireworks, as much as she enjoyed Naganohara's work, she couldn't find herself being at awe at the moment. Ei was at her left and yet the spot on her right felt like a black hole.

"What brings you here, Ei?" Yae says, cutting straight to the point, Ei does not delay any further. Of course, Yae knew Ei hadn't come seeking for her for no reason. after all, she is her closest friend, she knows when Ei needs something from her.

"The Fatui requests an audience with us, to make up for the war 5 years ago, they're sending the new 8th Harbinger, and the 11th" Ei says, a little too calmly. Yae sighed, already knowing, Ei wanted her to stand beside her when they meet the new Harbinger.

"The one who's only been in the Fatui for three years? What a joke, this has got to be some sort of elaborate revenge" Yae scoffs and places a hand under her chin, she was starting to get annoyed at the mere mention of the Fatui already.

"It might be, but they say it'll be worth our time" Yae Miko raises a brow at Ei, wondering why she'd even consider the request.

"Something is going on, so I approved of their request. The tri-commissions are invited as well, to make sure they won't try anything".

"Hah... Don't expect me to be so welcoming then".

"Of course, I couldn't ask that of you".
