Chapter Text
Lance let out a yelp as his bare foot came down on a Lego. He stumbled backward, only to step on another Lego. "Why is my living room a Lego mine field?" he demanded, flopping down onto the couch and pulling his feet up to avoid the bumpy, evil little blocks.
"It's just a typical kid toy," Pidge responded from her place on the carpet where she was building a disturbingly accurate Lego model of Voltron. "She loves them."
"Kaylee is only two," Lance reminded her. She would be three in only two weeks, but he didn't care to think about that. "They're a choking hazard." It would have made more sense for Pidge to bring over the big Legos that his daughter couldn't shove into her mouth. He looked to his daughter just in time to see her stuff one of those colorful bricks in her mouth. He swiftly scooped her up to fish the block from her mouth, wincing at her sharp little teeth nipping at his fingers. "Papi is not a snack," he scolded her playfully.
Kaylee's kitten ears twitched at the sound of his voice as she grinned at having his attention. "Play Papi?" she asked him sweetly, her little tail swishing behind her.
Lance nuzzled her lovingly, breathing in the soft scent of baby shampoo. Since she was covered in fur, it was used all over her little body. "We've got to get cleaned up Gatita," he told her. "Daddy will be home soon."
"Daddy!" Kaylee cheered.
Keith had been on a relief mission with the Blades for the last three weeks. Lance had stayed home to take care of their kit. They did their best to avoid both of them being away at the same time whenever they could help it. And this was Keith's first mission since being gravely injured six months prior.
Kaylee was placed on the floor and she toddled her way over to help Pidge put all the Legos into a bin. She clapped happily when they were all finished, earning a gentle high five from Pidge.
"Alright, I'm heading out," Pidge announced, patting Kaylee's head fondly. "I really don't want to be here for the reunion." She smirked when Lance blushed a little.
Lance waved her off before picking Kaylee up to set her in her little booster seat at the table for a snack. He watched her squish pieces of banana in her fingers before getting it to her mouth. She was definitely going to need a bath after snack time.
The front door opened and Lance stepped around the corner to see his mate setting down a duffel bag. Keith grinned at the sight of Lance and rushed into his arms, tilting his head to offer his neck for scenting. Lance eagerly complied and then pressed gentle kisses down his lover's throat. "I missed you so much," he murmured.
"I missed you too," Keith responded, relaxing in the alpha's embrace. "Both of you," he added, smiling at his kit.
"Daddy," Kaylee said, holding both of her hands out. "Wan nana?" she offered through her mouthful.
Keith chuckled. "No baby, I don't want your banana," he told her, moving closer to lean down and kiss the top of her head, just between her fuzzy blue ears. "I guess your papa wanted you to be extra messy for me."
"Love you Papi," Kaylee called out, though she was now eyeing her banana covered hands with a frown.
Lance grinned, wrapping his arms around Keith from behind. "I'm so glad you're home," he murmured, pressing a kiss to the omega's temple. He looked Keith over, taking in the bags under his eyes. "You okay babe?" he asked.
Keith nodded, suddenly feeling completely drained. "I've just been so tired," he admitted, leaning more heavily against Lance. "I think the space travel has messed with my sleep cycle. I've gotten spoiled being here with you so much," he added, turning his head to offer a sleepy smile.
"Go take a nap sweetheart," Lance offered. "We'll join you after Kaylee's bath. We've got dinner at Hunk's place tonight so we don't need to worry about cooking."
Keith nodded and pressed a kiss to Lance's lips before moving to their bedroom to crawl into the nest. He sighed happily, relaxing into the bedding that smelled heavily of his alpha. The scent was helping to soothe the mild headache that had been building since he woke up that morning. Content knowing that he was home with his family, he drifted off.
Once their kit had been bathed, Lance carried her to the nest so they could rest with Keith. The omega barely stirred when they curled up against him. Lance stroked his fingers through Keith's hair gently, earning a soft purr. Smiling, Lance settled in to enjoy a nap too.
When Lance woke up an hour later, Keith was still soundly asleep. Kaylee was awake and looked as if she was contemplating poking her daddy in the eye, so Lance scooped her up to let the exhausted omega rest for a bit longer. He grew mildly concerned when the nap continued for another two hours, but he didn't comment since Keith appeared to feel much better.
"Are you hungry?" Lance asked, picking Kaylee up. She nodded eagerly, wiggling in his arms. Lance grinned and turned to look at Keith. "What about you sexy?"
Keith looked distinctly less enthusiastic. He shrugged at Lance's concerned look. "Just a little nauseated" Keith admitted. "It'll pass."
They made their way to Lotor and Allura's house for dinner, bringing along a decadent chocolate cake that Lance had made that morning while Pidge watched Kaylee. The alien royalty had just had their first baby a month prior and were surviving off of very little sleep. Baby Alfor was a much less easy going infant than Kaylee had been. So, when the group got together, they now usually gathered at Allura's house to save the exhausted new parents the trouble of leaving their home.
Hunk and Shay's baby was six months old and remarkably easy to care for. Which was nice since the conception and incubation period had been downright bizarre. Once they'd decided to have a baby, Hunk had been informed that Balmerans layed eggs; Soft porous eggs that would need to absorb the sperm through the shell to be fertilized. Hunk had blushed almost constantly for a week once he'd managed to do it.
And then there was the fact that immediately following fertilization, the egg had to be buried. Like a sea turtle. But, of course, the ground had to be warm and rich in certain minerals and nutrients. So Pidge, Lance and Shiro had helped Hunk build a special little greenhouse, and included soil rich in all the nutrients a baby Balmeran would need. The number of cameras in that greenhouse was laughable.
Little Rax hatched just a few months later, named after Shay's brother. He looked a lot like Hunk in the face, but his skin was grayish and he had that boney cartilage on top of his head like Shay. The combination was surprisingly adorable.
Dinner with team Voltron was always a noisy affair. Baby Alfor was passed around the group of friends, giving Allura and Lotor a chance to eat their meal unimpeded. Baby Rax mostly clung to his mother like a weird little possum. Kaylee happily occupied her Uncle Shiro's lap, periodically standing up on his thighs to press a sloppy kiss to his cheek. Shiro, of course, was wrapped around her little claw-tipped fingers and lovingly fed her from his own plate between taking mouthfuls for himself.
"Something is burning," Keith said, sniffing at the air and making all the chatter around him die down.
"I don't smell anything," Adam noted. The others joined in, sniffing the air with uncertain expressions.
Allura bolted to the kitchen, pulling open the oven door with an anxious frown. She donned an oven mitt and carefully removed a hot tray of chocolate chip cookies that looked just a little too dark. "I forgot about them," she muttered, eyeing them critically. "They're not completely ruined. A little too well done maybe."
Hunk joined her to look the cookies over. "Still edible," he assured her. "Eat them with a glass of milk and they'll be just fine."
Keith wrinkled his nose but didn't comment. He was content to enjoy a slice of the delicious cake Lance had made. However, when a plate of those cookies was brought to the table, his stomach turned over. He swallowed hard, leaving his chair to back away from the table. The others stared at him in surprise.
"What's wrong?" Pidge asked him.
"Nothing," Keith said, drawing in a deep breath through his mouth. "I guess I'm still really tired. I'm fine." His churning stomach seemed tempted to prove him a liar. He swallowed hard, willing his dinner to stay down.
"He took a three hour nap," Lance informed their friends, glancing at his mate in concern. Keith wasn't usually one to take naps unless he was very ill or his heat was starting. And it was far too soon for another heat.
"Well, give him a day or two to recover before worrying too much," Coran advised, seeing the worry growing on Shiro's face. "As long as he has no other concerns." He looked at Keith expectantly.
"I'm good," the omega insisted. "Just tired."
Lance wasn't convinced, but he was willing to let the matter lie for the moment. Bidding their friends a good night, he picked up his daughter and led Keith back to their house. Keith felt guilty about their early departure, but Lance brushed it off. An early night would be good for them.
While Lance got Kaylee ready for bed, Keith changed into comfy clothes and stepped into the bathroom to wash his face and brush his teeth. The cool water felt nice on his skin and made him feel much better. Relaxing a bit, Keith put some paste on his toothbrush and began cleaning his teeth.
One moment he was brushing over his molars and the next his stomach revolted completely. Keith tossed his toothbrush into the sink before hitting his knees in front of the toilet. He vomited up everything from dinner but his stomach continued to heave for several moments longer. Luckily, he'd had the presence of mind to push his hair away from his face first.
Lance burst into the bathroom looking anxious. He quickly took over holding Keith's hair with one hand while he rubbed gentle circles over Keith's back with the other. He sighed in relief when Keith settled and relaxed a little. He knelt down when Keith reached over to flush. "Are you alright mi amor?" Lance asked anxiously.
"I feel a lot better now," Keith said, leaning against Lance weakly.
Lance bit his lip, watching apprehensively as Keith carefully re-brushed his teeth. Once that was done and Keith seemed unlikely to start vomiting again, they returned to their room to get into their nest. Lance cradled Keith against his chest, stroking his hair soothingly until the omega fell asleep. It took Lance quite a bit longer to find rest.
Lance was startled awake by the sound of his poor omega throwing up again. He shifted to climb out of the nest, noting that cheery morning sunlight was streaming through the window. Making his way into the bathroom, his heart ached at the sight of Keith's miserable expression. The black paladin was pale and sweating, his hand shaking a little as he reached up to flush the toilet.
"You need to see a doctor," Lance told him, running some water over a washcloth and wringing it out a little. He bent to gently wipe over Keith's pink cheeks and damp forehead, hoping to make him more comfortable. "Or at least Coran. Something isn't right."
"It's fine, Lance. I'm feeling better."
Lance frowned. "Can you just... indulge me? This would make me feel a lot better. Besides, we need to know if you caught some weird space virus that could get Kaylee sick," he added, knowing that Keith would cooperate for his precious daughter's sake.
Keith nodded reluctantly, allowing his alpha to help him to his feet. His stomach was now settled, but he was a little afraid to try eating anything.
"Do you want me to stay home with you today?" Lance offered, dreading going into work while his omega was sick.
"I'll be fine," Keith assured him. "Just go to work and I'll let you know what Coran says."
Lance agreed reluctantly, uneasy about leaving his mate. He sent Coran a message just before getting in the shower. Once finished he got dressed and made his way to the kitchen where Keith was watching over Kaylee as she ate her breakfast. Lance kissed them both before hurrying away. He consoled himself with knowing that Coran was going to check on Keith.
Coran arrived shortly after breakfast, bringing Allura and Hunk with him. Shay had stayed home to watch Kaylee and Rax. Hunk had just wanted to be there for moral support since he knew Lance was anxious.
The Alteans listened pensively when Keith described his episodes of vomiting. Coran nodded along attentively while tapping at his datapad with a frown. If he couldn't figure out what was going on, he'd have to insist on a trip to the clinic. He knew how much Keith hated it. The black paladin did everything he could to avoid going to the doctor ever since he'd been hospitalized after his capture by alien sex traffickers. Keith had gone into an early heat that had nearly killed him. The whole ordeal had been traumatizing for everyone, especially Keith.
"Have you noticed anything else?" Allura asked helpfully.
Keith hesitated, glancing at his friends guiltily. "My chest hurts," he admitted quietly.
Hunk's eyes widened in alarm. "Do you think it could be cardiac?' he asked Coran frantically. "I've never heard of heart problems making you puke."
"No, not-" Keith sighed. "I mean... you know, the muscle." He gingerly pressed against his chest demonstratively, being sure to avoid his nipples. "My chest feels weird... Kind of sore and sometimes... tingly, I guess. But I don't remember doing anything to cause it. I feel like I barely lifted a finger during the mission."
Coran gave him a blank look before gesturing for Keith to move closer. He wondered if they needed to call in the Galran medic within the Blades. The Altean reached out to gently palpate around Keith's pectorals. He sighed and murmured "You're so firm and toned here. That's all I can feel."
Keith was instructed to stretch out on the couch so Hunk moved away to give him room. Coran held out his scanner, peering thoughtfully at the little screen as he scanned Keith's chest and abdomen slowly. It was at the lower part of Keith's belly that Coran's brows raised in surprise. Holding the scanner steady with one hand, he used the other to begin gently pressing around Keith's stomach below his navel.
Allura gawked at the screen and then her hands were joining Coran's, careful fingers prodding the area.
"Oh," Allura breathed, her eyes wide. "And your last heat was- Oh my..."
"What's wrong?" Keith asked warily. "What do you think is wrong with me?"
Hunk looked like he was seconds from passing out from the suspense.
Coran hit a switch on the scanner and aimed it at Keith's lower abdomen. He pressed another button but, this time, they could hear a strange rhythmic swishing sound.
Hunk froze, listening intently. Something about the sound was familiar. And then it dawned on him. He stared at Keith in stunned amazement.
"That- What is that?" Keith asked, violet eyes wide. "It sounds like... No," he said softly, his eyes filling with tears. "Coran what is that?" he asked shakily.
"That would be a heart beat," Coran said, rather tearful himself. "And it isn't yours."
Keith sat up, breathing hard. He rose from the couch unsteadily. The others just watched him uncertainly as he paced toward the window and came back, since he seemed unsure of what to do with himself.
In the next moment, Keith pressed one hand to his mouth and squeezed his eyes shut. Hunk thought the omega was going to be sick, but was stunned when Keith sobbed.
Keith lowered himself to kneel on the floor as his shaky legs threatened to cease holding him upright. He drew in a harsh breath only to expel more wracking sobs.
"It'll be alright Keith," Allura said hastily. "There are many options. Termination is perfectly safe if-" She cut herself off when Coran held up a hand to silence her.
Coran knelt down and gathered the omega into his arms. "It's alright my boy," he murmured. "Everything will be alright. This is a good thing."
"I- I was afraid that-" Keith hiccupped and shuddered, his eyes red and his face wet with tears.
"I know," Coran crooned, fingers carding through dark hair as his own tears trickled down. "Just settle down lad."
"I feel like I'm missing something here," Hunk said cautiously. He leaned in just a little closer, taking in the emotions flitting across Keith's face. Grief, worry, fear, hope... "What's going on Keith?" Hunk asked gently.
Keith sighed, lifting his gaze for just a moment to give Coran a little nod. Coran nodded back before turning to Allura and Hunk. "Six months ago, Keith was injured on a mission with the Blades. You all knew about that, but what you didn't know is that the injury resulted in a miscarriage," he explained quietly, petting Keith's hair when the omega whimpered.
"Oh," Allura breathed, sorrow filling her expression.
Hunk looked heartbroken. "Lance never told me."
Coran glanced at Keith, hugging the weeping omega closer. "Lance doesn't know," the Altean said. "Keith didn't know he was pregnant as it was so early. It was discovered after he got hurt. The embryo had already... expired." That drew another heart wrenching sob from Keith. "He didn't want to upset Lance, so he kept that part of the ordeal to himself."
"Oh Keith," Hunk said softly, his heart aching when those tearful violet eyes focused on him. "Lance would want to be there for you for this. We all would. We thought that you've seemed a little down. Have you even given yourself the chance to grieve?" he asked.
Keith sighed, rubbing at his eyes. "It felt unreal," he murmured. "I'd lost it before I even realized there was a baby. And then because of my injury... Our medic wasn't sure another pregnancy was possible." He sniffled, looking down at his hands. "We haven't talked about having a baby, but I wanted to be able to do that for Lance." He suddenly smiled through his tears. "Looks like I am now."
"You are," Coran agreed with a wide smile.
Keith's smile fell, his hand unconsciously cupping his lower abdomen. "Will I be able to keep it though?"
"We'll do whatever we need to do," Coran assured the omega. "Weekly scans if necessary. We'll also contact Kolivan to see if the Blade can spare a Medic."
"For now, I think we should call Lance," Allura said firmly. "He should be told the good news. And you need to rest," she added, eyeing Keith's tear-stained face.
"I'll come rest with you," Hunk offered eagerly. "Maybe it'll make you feel better until Lance gets here."
Keith accepted this plan and led the way to the guest room. Hunk gathered up spare blankets and pillows and swiftly prepared a nest on the bed. Soon Keith was curled up in the nest with his face pressed to Hunk's chest. Hunk rubbed his back soothingly, grateful to be able to comfort his friend.
In Hunk's opinion, that was one of the nicest things about Keith becoming an omega: Keith could be soothed with physical affection from his pack. Hunk loved hugs and cuddling. During the war, there had been many times that he'd thought that Keith needed a hug. Since becoming an omega, he sought out affection. Usually it was Lance that provided it, but he seemed happy to accept it from his other friends. Hunk was always happy to indulge in a platonic cuddle. Clearly, Keith felt the same way.
Lance arrived at the house in a slight panic. He'd been assured that Keith was alright, but he hadn't been told anything else. He burst through the door only to be scolded by Allura for making so much noise while Keith rested and Kaylee napped.
"Where is he? Is he really alright?" Lance asked urgently. He sniffled the air, taking note of the slightly sour tinge of Keith's scent.
"He's fine," Coran said, holding his hands up in a placating gesture. "Keith is pregnant."
Lance gasped, covering his mouth in shock. "He's- Oh wow." He laughed, reaching up to clutch at his hair. "Dios mio, that's amazing! We weren't sure that he could since-"
"Lance, there's more," Allura said softly.
Lance's smile fell as Coran told him of Keith's miscarriage and the omega's fear of being unable to carry a child for his mate. Lance listened with watery blue eyes, aching to go to Keith's side. He hadn't realized how much it had truly bothered Keith. And there had been a baby! The omega had endured the pain of that loss with only Coran knowing the whole truth.
"What are the odds that he'll be able to carry this baby to term?" Lance asked, his voice rough with emotion.
"My scans show him to be quite healthy," Coran said. "I saw no reason for concern. But, I've contacted Kolivan and he's sending one of their medics to evaluate Keith. We'll take every precaution."
Lance nodded, swallowing hard. He made his way down the hall, pausing at their bedroom door. He glanced inside and then followed his nose to the guest room. There he found his poor omega cuddled up against Hunk, purring softly while the larger man rubbed his back and petted his hair.
Lance approached the bed, offering Hunk a shaky little smile. He reached out and caressed Keith's face gently. Keith turned over and sat up, nuzzling against Lance's neck. Hunk shifted off the bed to give them a bit of space.
"I wish you had told me what happened," Lance murmured into Keith's hair. He felt the omega tense in his arms. "I'm not mad. I just wish you hadn't suffered alone. Okay? We share everything, not just the happy stuff."
Keith pulled back a little to meet his alpha's gaze. "I have something we can share now," he offered shakily, guiding Lance's hand to his stomach.
Lance let out a slow breath, his eyes focused on the hand that rested against Keith's still toned and firm abdomen. "We haven't talked about this," he said cautiously. "Are you really okay with it?"
The omega was silent for a moment. "The idea of being pregnant was terrifying to me. I just couldn't wrap my mind around it." He shook his head. "And then I found out that I'd gotten pregnant and lost our baby. It was awful. Suddenly something was taken from me that I hadn't realized that I wanted."
"Mi tesoro, I had no idea," Lance said quietly, rubbing at one eye.
Keith shrugged, rubbing at his stomach absently as his lips trembled slightly. "Anyway, I'm still nervous about actually being pregnant, but... I really want this. So badly."
Lance heaved a sigh of relief, tears spilling over his cheeks. He kissed his mate lovingly, cradling his face. "We're having a baby," he whispered, excitement creeping into his tone.
"I'm really happy for you guys," Hunk said, reminding them that he was still there.
"As am I," Allura added from the doorway. Coran was at her side, smiling broadly at the couple.
Keith let out a shuddering breath, settling himself against Lance. "Can I hear it again?" he asked shakily.
Coran chuckled fondly. "Of course my boy," he nodded. He left to grab the scanner and returned a moment later. Keith stretched out on his back, anxious but excited. Coran scanned his abdomen again, that precious sound filling the guest room. "Congratulations lads."
Keith sobbed, letting Lance pull him closer. He hid his face in his alpha's neck as he let the reality of that heartbeat wash over him. It would be so much more painful if they lost this little one. There was a tiny life growing inside him. It was a new kit to love and raise along with Kaylee.
"I'm so happy," Lance whispered, joyful tears trailing down his cheeks. He entwined his fingers with Keith's and then placed their joined hands against Keith's stomach. "Are you alright?"
Keith nodded slowly. "I'm shocked... And nervous. But, I'm really happy," he murmured. His thumb stroked over his belly pensively. His abdomen was still firm and flat, but soon it would swell with new life. He stilled again at that thought. "I'm gonna get fat," he pouted.
"Being pregnant isn't the same as getting fat," Lance laughed wetly. "But if it makes you feel better, I'll help you get back in shape after the baby is born."
Keith nodded and took a long slow breath, watery eyes staring up at the ceiling. Biting his lip, he squeezed the hand in his. He finally met Lance's gaze as more tears fell. "We're having a baby," he said softly. It was so strange, but he loved saying it.
Lance choked back a sob of his own, leaning in to capture Keith's lips in a searing kiss. For a moment, they forgot about the two Alteans and Hunk looking on. Luckily, Coran was quick to clear his throat when their hands started to wander.
Keith smiled as Lance pulled back with a sheepish grin. "You got me pregnant," he said with a breathless laugh.
Lance giggled, giddy with excitement and joy. "I did," he agreed. He tenderly caressed his mate's stomach. "You're amazing cariño."
Keith sat up slowly, his head spinning with thoughts of a swelling belly, diapers and tiny clothes. He loved being a father to Kaylee, but it was very different to producing a child himself. At that moment, there was a tiny embryo inside him. He was carrying a baby that he'd created with Lance.
So very weird.
And speaking of weird...
"So, why does my chest feel strange?" Keith asked.
"Well, I expect it's the pregnancy causing it," Coran informed. "Omegas nurse their young. Most do anyway. A few find their bodies incapable of it, but it's all fine."
"Nursing? You mean breastfeeding?" Keith asked, sounding mildly horrified.
"It's perfectly natural," Allura reminded him, her gentle tone aiming to soothe.
"But I'm a guy," Keith objected. He lifted his hands to his own muscular chest, looking distressed. "I don't have-"
"You're pregnant," Lance reminded him, kissing him gently. "And you can't compare yourself to anybody else. You're half Galran and an omega. You're amazing and you're growing our baby inside you. Don't let this freak you out."
Keith stilled and glanced at Lance uncertainly. "It doesn't bother you?" the omega asked softly.
"Of course not. I love you," Lance assured him, squeezing Keith's knee slightly. "I've known for a long time that your body was different. I'd be thrilled if you were able to nurse our kit. If it makes you uncomfortable, we'll bottle-feed like we did with Kaylee. I'm happy with whatever makes you comfortable."
Keith nodded pensively. He had always loved feeding Kaylee her bottle, their eyes meeting as she suckled. Nursing would be certain to feel even more intimate. He'd be using his own body to nourish his child. He couldn't quite picture it, but the idea did have appeal. He could cradle his infant to his bare chest, allowing the baby to drink from him as he admired the sweet face of his precious offspring. He didn't want to miss out on a single experience with their kit. "I think- I think I'll try it," he offered nervously. "The, uh- The nursing." He smiled slightly when Lance kissed his temple appreciatively.
"You've got plenty of time before we get to that," Allura said kindly. "And you have all of us here to help you. Would you like everyone to come over?"
"Good idea," Lance nodded. "It might help to have your pack with you right now. Krolia is still on earth. Want me to call her?" he asked, running his fingers over Keith's back soothingly.
Keith nodded and went back to the living room to curl up on the couch with Allura while Lance, Hunk and Coran went off to make some calls. Keith quickly found himself tucked against the Altean princess with his head on her shoulder. She didn't often get the opportunity to spend time with Keith one on one and she found that she really enjoyed it.
"This will be fun," she insisted, stroking his hair. "I'll be around for advice, pampering, venting... Anything you need."
The omega relaxed a little more, purring softly. He wouldn't be alone for this pregnancy. Allura could advise and reassure him. Lance would never leave his side. And his other friends would love and support him through it all.
It would be alright. And that blessed certainty lulled him into a calm slumber.
Lance returned to the living room to find his mate sleeping on Allura's shoulder. He could hear a soft purr from the omega, warming his heart. Allura was looking down at Keith with a fond smile. "He's so sweet like this," she murmured. "It's almost hard to believe he's the hot-head of the team."
"Thanks Allura," Lance said with a chuckle. "I think he's a little freaked out, but I'm glad you were able to help him relax. I'm a little freaked out myself."
"Pregnancy is beautiful and exciting, but also frightening," she admitted, smiling when Keith let out a quiet hum. "His instincts will be stronger than ever. But you two will be fine. You're already wonderful parents."
"We'll manage," Lance said confidently. They were a good team, and they had yet to come across a challenge that they couldn't handle together.
A knock at the door an hour later woke Keith from his nap. He sat up and rubbed at his eyes before looking over to see Krolia come into the house. "Hey mom," he offered, his voice still rough with sleep. He offered a sheepish smile to Allura, embarrassed about falling asleep on her. She just patted his leg with a grin.
Krolia paused as she stepped further into the living room and sniffed the air, her expression stunned. "Keith?" Krolia asked uncertainly. "Are you-"
Keith dropped a hand to rest against his abdomen as he blushed. "We just found out," he murmured. Then he gave her a puzzled look. "Wait a minute... You can smell it, can't you?" he asked, earning a nod of confirmation. "I get why Lance wouldn't recognize the scent. But I was on mission with the Blades for two weeks. Why the hell didn't they say anything?"
"I assume they were being polite," Krolia offered reasonably with a small shrug. "That is something you should discover with your mate." She smiled. "This is wonderful news."
Keith nodded, though he was still a little annoyed. "Well, it does explain why they were so weirdly protective," he grumbled. The other Blades had followed Keith around the ship and on the planet they provided aid to. He was lucky they didn't follow him into the bathroom. When he would go to move a box of provisions, one alpha or another would rush over and lift it for him. He had assumed that it was because he was an omega and had been rather irritated by it. Now, he was wondering if they were making sure he was safe and comfortable while pregnant.
Pregnant... He was still having a hard time processing that concept.
Shiro, Adam, Pidge, Lotor and Shay came in at that moment, greeting the Krolia with smiles. Lotor was cradling baby Alfor while Shay held little Rax against her chest. They all looked to Lance and Keith expectantly. "What's going on?" Shiro asked.
"We have some news," Lance said carefully, glancing at Keith.
Keith blushed, but smiled with a bashful sort of happiness. "I'm pregnant," he admitted.
Adam cheered in excitement only to cut himself off with a squeak when Lance hissed at him. A little cry from down the hall told him that the kit had been woken up by the noise. It had also startled Alfor, who wailed. Adam winced and apologized as Lance darted away to comfort his daughter. Allura took her young son into her own arms and rocked him back into calmness.
"That's amazing," Shiro said with a broad grin, eagerly hugging Keith. He turned to Lance as the Alpha returned to the room with Kaylee on his hip. "Congratulations! Are you excited?"
"Very," Lance nodded. "We're still pretty shocked, but happy."
"I'm shocked too," Shiro chuckled. "You buy so many condoms that you really should own stock. So how did it happen? Condom break? You said that you're really careful," he reminded Lance.
"I am," Lance insisted. He jerked his thumb at Keith. "That one not so much. During his heat, there were three times that I woke up to this guy already riding me." He shook his head. He glanced at Kaylee warily and then covered her ears before going on. "Three times Shiro. And do you think his horny ass thought about grabbing a condom before he hopped on like I'm some kind of cheap carnival ride?"
Pidge face palmed. Coran, Adam and Hunk cackled with laughter while Allura hid a grin behind her hand. Krolia's expression was exasperated but amused. Keith just grinned, completely unapologetic. "I wanted it," the omega said, stretching his legs out in front of him. "And it feels better without a barrier."
"Dios," Lance groaned, shaking his head.
Shiro smirked at Lance. "Now, I'm just surprised that you didn't get him pregnant sooner," he commented.
The alpha flinched slightly and glanced at his mate in concern. Keith bit his lip and looked down at his own stomach. Lance shook his head, refocusing on his reason for inviting them over. He'd break that unfortunate news to the others a little later. Keith didn't need to go through that again, but it seemed wise to make the rest of the pack aware. "Anyway, I wanted Keith to have a little extra support. He's understandably a little stressed and afraid. His pack has always made him feel better."
Shiro nodded in understanding. "You know we'll be here every step of the way," he said, smiling as the others nodded their agreement. He reached over the back of the couch to grasp Keith's hand firmly.
"Anything you need," Pidge said earnestly.
"We'll all help," Hunk blurted out eagerly. "Cooking, babysitting, laundry. And cuddles. As much as you want," he assured Keith.
It had been quite a revelation when the team realized that grumpy, "loner" Keith was an avid cuddler. Before becoming an omega, he'd simply ignored his desire for physical affection. Once he'd changed, he found himself incapable of coping well without it at times. Prior to dating Lance, his need for affection had been soothed by the rest of team Voltron. These days, Lance met all of those needs as his alpha and mate. But Keith certainly wouldn't turn down hugs and snuggling when it was offered.
It was in that moment that team Voltron made another discovery: Pregnant Keith was emotional. Lance liked to tease him about his "resting bitch face" and Keith was known for being stoic and serious. But, after hearing his friends offer love, support and assistance without hesitation, Keith's expression crumbled and he burst into tears.
Lance hastily handed Kaylee to Krolia and sat down next to his mate with a worried frown. He pulled the weeping omega close and stroked through his hair soothingly. "What's wrong mi amor?" he asked.
Keith sniffled. "They're so sweet," he choked out.
Lance smiled adoringly, pushing Keith back just enough to kiss his forehead. "Oh babe, these hormones are gonna be rough on you," he said gently. "Just relax. Your pack loves you almost as much as I do." He made a sympathetic sound as more tears spilled over Keith's cheeks.
Adam frowned as he took in the sight of Keith's glossy eyes, slightly flushed cheeks and reddened lips. "How the hell is he so pretty when he cries?" he complained. He waved off Shiro's look of reproach. "Seriously. Last time I cried, I looked like the world's ugliest clown."
This prompted a quiet huff of laughter from Keith while the others snorted. He looked at his friends gratefully, tears still clinging to his dark lashes.
"You beautiful bastard," Lance teased, pressing little kisses all over Keith's face.
Shiro watched the happy couple with a fond smile. "Why don't we leave you two to celebrate?" he suggested.
"I'll make us all a big dinner tomorrow," Hunk decided. "Let me know if you get any cravings and I'll try to help Lance keep your favorites stocked."
"Thank you," Keith said. Then his face lit up with a smile. He turned to his mate excitedly. "I'm already pregnant. We don't need a condom!" And he certainly looked happy about that.
Lance blushed. "Babe, that's not the only reason we use condoms," he reminded his lover. Adam snorted a laugh into Shiro's shoulder.
Keith narrowed his eyes. "I don't want to use a condom."
"I really don't need to hear this debate," Pidge declared, turning and leaving the house quickly.
"Kaylee can go with Uncle Shiro," Shiro said, taking the furry blue toddler into his arms. "Krolia, why don't you come over for dinner?"
"Thank you Shiro," Krolia accepted. She paused to kiss the top of Keith's head before following Shiro to the front door.
"Glad to have you," Adam assured her, holding open the door for her. "Don't worry, we're getting take out. We don't subject guests to our cooking. Lance, just drop by to get Kaylee later," he added over his shoulder.
Lance waved to his friends as they all filed out of the house. That conversation had certainly taken a turn for the embarrassing. And Keith was looking far too pleased with himself. "You're a menace," Lance grumbled, moving to stand in front of his mischievous lover.
Keith stroked over Lance's crotch, smirking at the growing bulge there. "You don't seem to mind," he countered smugly.
"Naughty omega," Lance murmured, pulling Keith to his feet. Their lips met in a heated kiss, bodies pressing close. Lance maneuvered them until he had Keith pinned to the wall. "Te quiero con todo mi corazón," he murmured against Keith's lips.
The omega smiled, cupping Lance's face lovingly. "Eres el amor de mi vida," he responded. There wasn't much that he could say in Spanish, but he'd practiced a few different ways to express his adoration to his mate. The besotted smile that Lance always gave in response had made all that effort to learn completely worth it.
They tugged at their clothes until they were both bare. Lance lift Keith and he obligingly wrapped his legs around Lance's waist. He gripped onto the alpha's shoulders as warm fingers prodded carefully at his damp entrance.
Lance was always so gentle with him. Keith still had nightmares, on occasion, about being captured and violated over and over. Perhaps that memory would always haunt him. But Lance made sure that he felt safe and comfortable with their intimacy. His long fingers teased and stretched, ensuring that Keith would feel no pain. His alpha wanted him to feel only love and pleasure.
The wall was wonderfully cool against the naked skin of Keith's back. He arched a little as Lance finally entered into him with infinite tenderness. He was securely pinned to the wall and cradled against his lover's body while Lance worked his hips in long even strokes. The sweet alpha was shaking a little with the effort.
"Such a good alpha," Keith breathed against Lance's neck. "Giving me a baby and providing for our family."
Lance paused, pulling his head back a little too look at his mate. "Is that some kind of... omega breeding kink?" he asked. "I'm not teasing you," he added when Keith blushed. "I'm curious."
"I don't know," Keith mumbled, wiggling a bit to encourage his love to start moving again. "I'm just really happy and then I got... excited."
Lance smiled, shifting his stance so he could nudge against Keith's prostate. "Well, I'm certainly not complaining," he replied. His expression turned a bit smug when Keith shuddered in his arms on the next thrust.
Keith moaned as pleasure exploded through his body, making him tremble and cling to his alpha even more. The warm wet sensation of his alpha filling him up made him purr. "I love how that feels," he slurred, drunk with ecstasy.
Lance kissed him lovingly. "Te amo mucho," he whispered reverently. "My perfect mate. My beautiful omega. You'll look amazing when you're all round with our kit," he added, gently stroking Keith's stomach with trembling fingers, carefully avoiding the splatters of Keith's spend.
Keith sighed, allowing himself to go limp in Lance's arms. He reached between them to entwine his fingers with the ones resting on his stomach. "Ready for our next big adventure sharpshooter?" he asked.
"Bring it on Samurai."
