New Beginnings

Summary:

Everything has to end, eh Captain?

Work Text:

You didn’t know what you were doing, whether to hold on or let go; it all came down to one choice in the end which Mark should you trust?

Which Mark should you listen to?

Do you trust this Mark, let him go to make the right decision? Or

You look at him, the desperation clearly written on his face ‘ trust me,’ it says, and you almost do it, but then you remember.

“Everything has to end.”

You hold on because you have to trust in this.

You have no idea what the right choice is or what you are really doing; you never have, really. But you’re making this choice for them, for him, and maybe a little bit for you as well; you put your faith and hold on to Mark as tightly as you possibly can, ignoring his pleas.

You have to believe you made the right choice, even if…

Mark yells at you, and it hurts; it hurts seeing the once trusting Mark look at you this way; it hurts, but you’ve made your choice, for everything has to end eventually, and this is it.

There is no other way; this is all it comes down to. This is all it will ever come down to, the end.

You hold on to Mark as everything ends. You hold on to him as he cries, saying he started all of this; it didn’t matter to you, not at this point, who started what, who the person to blame was because it was going to end. At last.

You hold on to each other as the universe collapse onto itself one last time, and you can’t help but wish for a new beginning and an even newer ending.

You wake up one last time, and everyone is there with you; you wonder briefly if you were dreaming but decide it does not matter if you were

Not if you got to see this, not if you got to see them, all happy and so so alive.

Endings aren’t so bad after all.
